This is awesome

tropferl 2017-12-05 18:43

The game looks cool, unfortunatly the keyboard controls don't work(atleast for me), pressing the right mouse button doesn't do anything.

plepletier 2017-12-05 18:51

Nice game! I really enjoy the attack effect when you hit enemys. The camera shake was very good!!! Congratulations!

cenullum 2017-12-05 18:53

hitting sound like playing slime :D I dont get what can I do with herbs. Moving attacking blur effect make feel themself. Animation was very well . It freeze when enemy spawning so you make them pool. I noticed player face last time may you should make UI bigger. And terrain should be less saturated colors . I like fighting mech , it is very well for 2d

catspawsgames 2017-12-05 18:53

Sad that keyboard+mouse doesn't work, I feel like it would be easier to play with K+M than with joystick. Controls is the weakest point I think, gameplay itself is engaging and has potential.

arya 2017-12-05 18:59

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not quite sure what you all mean when you say keyboard and mouse don't work. I just downloaded the game on a different computer and it all works fine here. You have to hold the right mouse button and pull the mouse away from the player in order to rotate, I'm not sure if that's the problem? Anyway thanks for the feedback. I will be porting to web tonight as well

xacur 2017-12-06 00:00

It's fun to play. I would have liked that your hit was better, at first I thought I was not doing anything.

wrexialmt 2017-12-06 12:46

Fun to play, but a twin-stick hack-em-up with a keyboard/mouse is so weird but so enjoyable for some weird reason. Love the Axe-Pike-Dagger trinity, but it feels the dagger is a bit under powered thus making the pike to op. But balancing in a jam? HAH if ever we have time to do them perfectly! good job :D

turbulentwinds 2017-12-07 00:37

I like the game so I'm gonna give you a full run down.

Pike is OP. Enemy spawn rate needs to increase with time, I spent more time waiting for people to spawn than actually fighting. You need to look at some standard keyboard/mouse mappings to fix that control scheme. I felt no reason to use any of the drugs. They were not incentivized and there was no stats bar in which to see their effects.

Overall, one of the best entries I have seen today! Good game!

High score: 29 (I ran out of people to kill and no more spawned after 5 minutes of waiting)

rob-white 2017-12-07 09:58

I liked the general game feel and the art/animations were sufficient enough to make the combat feel impactful. I would have liked for the game to be a bit harder or scale a lot quicker because it was very easy to defeat the enemies at the current spawn rates. I did like the visual effects added when the player consumes the drugs. I wasn't much of a fan of having to hold down right click for my character to face in that direction - it just didn't feel that necessary when you could just use the mouse position as the direction I'm facing in.

pixelectric 2017-12-07 18:14

I had a blast playing this. Excellent work overall. Original idea. Tips to improve: * Have the mouse direction control character facing, rather than right click. * The music is great, have it loop instead of play once. * Enemy spawn rate is a bit light.

neecko 2017-12-07 18:16

I've been working on a game like this. Very cool to see this. I didn't like holding down the right mouse to rotate. Seems un-need. I like the animations and effects though. Really great entry.

radmccool 2017-12-07 18:28

the right click to aim was weird but a fun challenge to adapt to. There's a lot of work done here and it shows. The game is fun, has decent sound and varied combat. good job!

fis 2017-12-07 18:54

Solid first game in ludum dare, the game runs very well and smooth. I aggree with @pixelectric, the result of "facing when rightclicked" is permanent rightclick - so you could always face towards the cursor. Would make it more intuitive!

arya 2017-12-07 19:14

@fis @neecko @pixelectric @rob-white @turbulentwinds Thanks everyone for the solid feedback! I made some improvements, including: - got rid of the right click to rotate - changed the drug menu to right click instead of middle click to fix the web build problem of scrolling - made sure the music loops - fixed the enemy spawning (or at least I think I fixed it, I still have to test that) - fixed the problem where the dash goes way too far when playing with a mouse

All of these changes are going to be in a post-jam build I am going to upload tonight, because I'm not sure these would fit within the rules of "bug-fixes." Thanks again for the feedback, I'm glad everyone is enjoying my game!

vlandemart 2017-12-07 19:24

The game is good but certainly have issues.

First about good sides - the game is ambitious in content, seeing all this attributes on items made me wounder how much you can do with it. This is a strong RPG element along with the ability of picking up weapons. Also, music was chosen very well, it is fitting the game nicely.

Cons are: the enemy pathfinding(they usually get stuck in crates and you have to walk around the level and find them), sounds (there are a lot of strange glitches that hurt ears) and controls (permanent right click is bad, as people already mentioned).

Overall, pretty fun little game, and I really do believe that you can fix it and even make it into small action-rpg game in after LD version.

stadoblech 2017-12-08 18:15

i really like animations. Gameplay feels really smooth! I really enjoyed it

bartosz 2017-12-08 18:17

Great game and great fun! :) I loved cam shake when hitting guys - picking up weapon - very nice addition! Although i was little bit dissapointed when music stoped after a while and there were no enemies left :( Also you can go straight and get lost (and you are far from spawners - nothing is happening, and you don't know if you are moving or not.) Mouse could work without holding RMB - i had to hold it all the time! :) No exit button and no main menu is not best option for windows version.

I loved RPG part in it, although MMB for menu is not great idea :) - PPM would be waaay much better! It's a great and fun entry though - i really enjoy it!

BTW - how did it hit theme? I didn't get that...

Also - Mood - i give you some stars for that because it have a certain "rush" feeling" but why didn't you opt-out from 'humour' rating?

Congratulations on your first ludum dare. It's a great game, had much fun killing all the enemies. Didn't notice any negative effects in taking drugs, so I just ate/drink everything I could. Had a slight problem on my first playthrough, only 1 enemy spawned, but after restarting it worked fine.

Overall it was a great experience, keep up the good work :)

soldierbear 2017-12-09 15:50

The movement and combat in this game feels very satisfying for a game-jam game. Especially your first one! Congrats.

lexi 2017-12-09 15:55

Good looking game. Unfortunately playing it on a laptop with a touchpad didn't really work that well, but I suppose that's not what it was built for, so no problem there. I liked the music and the animations as well.

citsua 2017-12-09 18:43

Great game! The weapons all have a great feeling to them. Holding middle mouse button made me scroll the page in the web version though, so that was not very practical. Apart from that, my score showed 0 enemies killed even though I killed a dozen.

nahual 2017-12-09 23:27

Guys, game is super. Creating game about berserkers on shrooms is my old drean :) Game feels good particulary the camera shaking, visuals effects and audio. I should notice that i Like the idea of scaling characters. Wait for a post-ludum game ;)

pndaa 2017-12-10 18:23

Congrats on finishing your first ld. The game is fun. All three weapons had them pro and cons. But yeah Pike is to damn strong. To bad there is no end to the game (or I didn't catch it?). Also boundaries of the level aren't very clear. Good combat mecanic.

arron-fowler 2017-12-10 22:46

I loved the sounds and graphics of this game. It has class. I found the control system a bit frustrating and would have played for longer if this is made more fluid. I am sure with time I would have found a way, but I lost interest before I cracked it. I applaud your ambition though and the level of detail that was put into it.
