The action buttons are a little too spread out. I had to keep looking down to make sure I was hitting the right one. Well made game otherwise.

Well done on the music. This is one of my highest-rated by mood.
Great audio! The controls handle smoothly. This is surprisingly good for a compo.
The bad guy's cape flap animation looks really cool. The balance meter is a nice feature and it feels good controlling it. This is one of the funnest games I've played so far. Well done all around. My only complaint is it takes awhile for a wave of enemies to get to the ground. I felt like I was waiting longer than necessary.
It fits the theme well. I like the "goal reached" sound effect. I'm interested to know how you made it. Good music too!
This is one of the best ones I've played yet. It fits the theme better than most and is innovative and fun!
Great graphics and nice physics on the blocks the dogs dig up.
The lasers are a cool mechanic. Nice charging sound effect. I really like how it's a short game that you replay in different ways. Well done adapting the feeling of vertigo to the game. Trippy. It's also really cool how you show stats of how other players fared. Nice networking! Man I'm typing as I'm playing and I keep liking this game more and more. Love the music.
Fun, funny game. It mirrors the mayhem of RL holiday parking.
This is a well done balance game! It was a nice touch to make the pivot point for gravity physics hinge on where you click. That adds a level of control that some of these games don't have.
Let me preface this by saying I have absolutely no room to talk (as you can see in my game). The GUI could use some improvement. It was confusing trying to set things up and get to the game. I felt like I needed a manual.
Interesting/unique take on the theme!
Nice mood. I like the lighting effects. I should really switch to a mouse for these but if you'd like to cater to trackpad users in the future: it's hard to switch between LMB and RMB rapidly. Good job on the game overall!
This is fun. It reminds me of one of those color sensitivity tests. One suggestion, don't show the new color after it's collected. I kept thinking I was supposed to find that color and click it, but in fact I was supposed to wait for it to disappear and wait for the new color prompt.
This is one of the best submissions I've played yet. High marks all around! Fun, art, sound. Good level layout and well designed style as a whole. My only nitpick is Lonk moves too slowly.
Not bad, but it was hard to know when I was hitting the mice. Maybe make them flash red or animate them somehow to give the player feedback for their actions. I like the lone-spearman tribal theme.
Btw I like your play on the aphorism in the title.
It takes awhile to get the hang of aiming, but I suppose you don't want it to be too easy. I love the graphics and music. I've never heard or thought of a mythical Santa/reindeer hybrid. Very creative!
@silvervalegames Re: Croc: Exactly what I was thinking! I loved that game. This is impressive for only one day of dev. Well done.
Tricky game! I made it to the finals once but usually failed in round 2. I like the unenthused "fight" sound haha. Hopefully constructive criticism: it was kind of hard to understand when and why a "prepare" move was necessary.
Fun game. It took me forever to find the humans though. A HUD arrow pointing to them would be helpful.
Next level audio! This is extremely well polished stylistically. The art, the animation, the HUD. On top of that, it's an interesting idea and fun to play. Fantastic!
If only it were that easy to get a job IRL haha. It took me awhile to figure out I could multi-jump. I was wondering why so many things were spawning over my head. Good take on the theme.
The first time I opened it, the loading screen got stuck at 50%. I couldn't tell if that was part of the game. Now I'm paranoid for the rest of my playthrough.... haha
Really interesting and original concept. You kept surprising me!
Surprisingly polished for a compo! Great narration and I love the music/ddr scenes.
lol @ "you bravely ran away"... I never!
This is one of the most fun games I've played so far and definitely one of my highest rated across the board. Great job on sfx and setting the mood. The variety of potions is impressive for a compo. Well done!
Love this but it could use more !!FUN!! ;)
Funny miscommunication in the intro. Great job on the graphics. Sometimes it's hardest to use such a low res. The controls were a little weird while using wasd (which I usually prefer to arrows), but once I switched to arrows it wasn't a problem hitting z and x.
As others have mentioned, this was surprisingly fun. You took a very dry concept and made a playable game. Good execution.
Very simple game (I like simple). The player was fun to control--handled nicely. Cute little wobbly arm animation.
WOW that's annoying (in a good way :)
This could be very fun with some adjustments. A couple of critiques. Movement is slow and it's frustrating to be sent to the beginning of the level since they move so slowly. Checkpoints would be a nice feature. And why not left click instead of right, or wasd/arrows? I'm not sure how the judges will rule, but the enemy character models are derivative of a unity tutorial. I wish you luck!
This is really cool. Original idea, executed well.
"Swing and a miss!" This is very clever. I love the bartender's opinion meter.
My favorite LD40 game so far. The sfx are perfect. I bet you had fun recording and programming those in. Impressive graphics as well.
This is one of the most immersive entries I've played. Great job on the art and audio. It'd be nice if you could speed up the speech sections by holding enter.
I love it when games use shadows well. You hit the mark. Great job on the music too.
Poignant intro set the mood but the game was kinda of sadly silly. Kinda confusing emotionally but very interesting. Great job on the art and wind sounds.
Very quick game. I think I beat it in 10 seconds? I guess that's the reality with 48-hour one-man jams. I didn't really see how it fit the theme...hm on reading the description, am I supposed to avoid the gold? Anyway, loved the audio.
I loved Geometry Wars so this is right up my alley. This is a really REALLY well done 2.5D game. Great depth effects, though subtle, in the enemies. The only thing I can think of that'd improve it is if your ship rolled as you change direction (a la the Unity3d space shooter tutorial if you're familiar). Fun game, looks great, and the way you worked in the theme threw me off and delighted at the same time.
I thought the game hadn't loaded at first. FYI to future players: audio is required. This reminds me of Dark Echo, except without the luxury of seeing footsteps haha. The sound effects are good. The game was kind of frustrating TBH. I didn't know if I was getting closer or farther from the light.
This is a fun game! The music is some of the best in this compo. I love how the "green collect" sound is like adding to the freestyle jazz. It was a little laggy for me but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Fun! I didn't expect to be able to plow through the arch. This has potential.
I love the screen shake when the boxes slam down. Stomping is very satisfying. Well done.
I'm a sucker for pinball. This is a fun minimal game. Great music!
Really cool lighting effects. It was pretty laggy. That might be on me though.
Sorry @rahul-rajput, no windows here. Congratulations and good luck!
Knockback is a fun mechanic. I discovered you can use it to move faster by shooting the other way. I could spend some time with this game.
Thanks for the tip on disabling arrow scroll! Next time.... Anyway, nice entry. I like the music and art. Pretty fun to play. I didn't really understand what was causing me to take damage though. I just saw the screen flash red. I thought I was clicking the yellow bullets away.
Only so much we can do in 48 hours!
*Art is never finished, only abandoned.*
-Leonardo da Vinci
This is a very original game! Good work on the art and animation. Top notch sound as well. I majored in math so this was right up my alley. I'll be revisiting this one.
I really enjoyed this. I like the art and sounds. Rating "humor" pretty high too.
I love the art style. The controls are a little unwieldy. Right have has to alternate betw mouse and arrows.
I can tell a lot of work went into this. Some of the best art in the jam. IMO the limited visibility effect could be eased into more gradually. Maybe don't have so narrow a gradient and/or don't make it close in quite so much each time.
Steering behaviors! Love it. Check out my game if you get a chance. I leaned on them heavily.
This is a pretty hard game. It matches the theme well. Nice music too.
Cutely disturbing!
I love the music. Such a good song for a game. I also like games that let you pick up random things and interact.
This is one of the more fun ones I've played. Well done!
Pretty fun to play. I love the music. It was !!FUN!! to die :)
I'm not colorblind myself but I thought it was really cool that you were able to build in accessibility features for a compo!
Unfortunately the frame rate was crawling when I played. Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if it's a problem on my end.
This is LD40's best music I've heard yet! Btw thanks for the comment on my game!
I was pleasantly surprised by the turn in level 3(?). I didn't expect to be able to control the book. I like this game. The music fits perfectly.
I like the art style and audio as a whole. The intro was too long though. "GET ON WITH IT!"
It's like classic DK meets super meat boy. Nice sfx and graphics! The controls felt really nice. I like the player's acceleration and the ladder's forgiving hitbox for lack of a better word.
Very cool off-white minimalist atmosphere. The music is good for compo but a little repetitive. It's a hard, unforgiving game. I thought I was doing pretty well but when I finally died I didn't get a checkpoint or anything. That'd make this game a lot more fun. I enjoyed it overall.
One criticism: As I was spamming the arrow keys to move, I couldn't stop myself in time to read the dialog and accidentally dismissed it too early. Very good for a game jam though!
@cameronjsamuels no worries, I'm not a nitpicker when it comes to rating the compo. I just appreciate it when people leave me constructive criticism :)
Fun game and very nice job on the art. The music enhances the mood nicely. The only thing that felt off was that presents are good but other xmas things are bad. Seems arbitrary and not intuitive. I didn't know until I read the instructions. Great work overall!
This is really well made. There's just enough complexity. Each new mechanic I discovered made me appreciate the game more.
Reminds me of joust, one of my favs. Nice work!
The graphics are great. I like the music too. It's a hard game! I need to work on my timing.
Really cool idea. Great visual style. I think it would be more enjoyable if you moved a bit faster though. I get that it's supposed to feel like a big challenging weight, but it was a bit much IMO. Impressive entry over all.
Well done on the graphics. The game is fun to play although the LMB/RMB controls are cumbersome with a trackpad. It would be nice if there were button alternatives for attack.
Congrats on finishing! I know that's a good feeling. Fun concept too--it fit the theme well. I think more visual feedback as to what's happening in the game would improve the experience. The audio is great. It blended beautifully with the programmer art :) Sadly I couldn't get past screen 3 or 4 without seeing game over, and a blurry one at that.
It took me awhile to figure out how to finish quests. Maybe that could be explained better. Once I figured that out it was a fun game! It's like where's waldo. And the build/lure to finish the quest mechanic is pretty cool. Great graphics.
My first impression was "ugh I have to wait for this intro text to scroll by." I'm not a fast reader, but I was still getting impatient waiting for the text to slowly scroll to the end. It'd be nice to have it all on the screen at once, or hold a button to spit it out faster a la Pokemon. Ok enough bitching. Here's a constructive tip: add hotkeys to select the items to build so you don't have to click the item and then click where it's going.
Despite the criticism I did enjoy the game and rated it accordingly. Just wanted to offer some hopefully helpful tips :)
Fresh take on snake! This is well done. I like the look of it but the sound could use some work. I know this is just the way you coded the snake to move but it looks like I'm playing at a low framerate. Sorry I don't have any suggestions.... I did enjoy the game though :)
Clever name. The cats' movement is very jerky. Fun game though!
Great music! It creates a drifty, explorey atmosphere.
The limited view range is a cool concept and makes sense in reality (i.e. not a shoehorned mechanic).
Very nice for your first submission! I enjoyed this. Cool concept of balancing your spells or else if affects your environment. I defeated my nemesis Greg! I encourage you to keep it up! This has potential.
Silly concept. It reminds my of qwop. Constructive criticism: I wasn't really sure how well I was doing (not enough gameplay feedback to tell me what I need to correct). I enjoyed it though!
Fun puzzles! I always love it when a game feels fresh and doesn't just use dressed up versions of a tired mechanics.
Pretty fun and unique concept. The net is hard to control in close quarters but that may be by design. It felt like I was trying to park an oversized trailer. Good luck!
Cmon Lilly, move it! I've got a greedy dog to feed! Besides the slow movement it's enjoyable :) Not bad animation for a jam, and the art is really good. Is that your actual dog that you drew and based the game on?
Nice take on the theme! This is fun to play and I bet it was fun to make. I have a similar "long-suffering partner" story haha.
Very nice graphics/animation.
Great music and well done on fitting the theme! It's a shame there are no checkpoints (that I could reach anyway...). This is a fun game though.
I can't get this to load in firefox or safari. It's stuck on Downloading... Hopefully it's a problem on my end. Best of luck!
I restarted the browser and it worked. Congrats on your first submission! Going procedural must have been a fun challenge.
This is like the trash compactor scene from Star Wars mixed with Q.U.B.E. Fun game! It'd be nice if there were sensitivity controls, and it's kinda hard to know where you're standing and where you need to stand without looking at your feet. That may be on purpose though. Great look overall!
Pretty good adventure game for a jam. It looks very nice. The music doesn't seem to match the setting/mood though.
It looks like you were hoping the "death helps you" theme would win out :) fun game anyway and nice music.
Thanks for playing! To "slay" dragons, make them collide with each other. The player can only move. There is no attack button.
@tom-panton I agree! Adding different enemies was a stretch goal that I didn't reach. In the end I decided the game was hard and complex enough. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@fenerax, any tips on how I could make it less confusing? Some specific suggestions would be helpful. I got this same feedback on my last game so obviously I need to improve :)
@gris, there's no attack button, but the dragons are "slain" if they crash into each other. Use their inertia against them ;)
@misterstripey that's thanks to their competing steering forces if you're familiar with that concept. Lately I've been fascinated with steering behaviors a la Craig Reynolds' "boids" algorithm. The dragons are affected by 3 forces which seek coins, pursue the player, and avoid each other. Thanks for playing and sorry for the unwarranted technical explanation :)
@misterstripey thanks so much! It was rewarding in itself to make the game in 2 days, but I'm so glad people are playing and enjoying it! Participation and feedback has been better than expected.
@rasblo great ideas. In the end I thought it was difficult enough and didn't want to add too much complexity, but your suggestions certainly would have improved my theme-fit and made the game more interesting. I did want to make a player sprite but I ran out of time. Glad you enjoyed it!
@navot I noticed that bug but decided to let it be in favor of other features. I hope it wasn't too much of a problem. Thanks for the feedback!
@kerneltt haha I completely agree. I've never put much effort into GUI. Maybe I should work on that.
@raziyya Thank you! I wanted to make a player sprite and background texture but ran out of time. You're right about the sfx. I had fun making them.
@chyme yeah GUI has never been my strong suit. Quick'n'dirty JS alerts were good enough for me this time. I'd rather code dragon logic than draw buttons :) I really should work on that.
@badly-drawn-rod Thank you! I try to focus most on fresh mechanics and fun gameplay, much to the detriment of art and GUI as you undoubtedly noticed. In fact the dragon sprite was an afterthought. They were almost simple green triangles. Glad I went out of my comfort zone, if only a little.
@reality-blind wish I could but I'm in a windowless house. It looks great from the video. Good luck!
@cjuan94 you just inspired me to develop the game post-LD! I wasn't even thinking about multiplayer when I made it but it would be fun to work together to bash dragons. You could even have 2P local, one using wasd and one using arrows. Thanks for the feedback!
@thygrrr all good suggestions. There is a small "ting" coin sound (you can hear it better if you toggle the music) but I agree it could be improved. I planned to add dragon death visuals and animated coin scatter but ran out of time. Thanks for playing!
@eldogg I did write it but I used Garageband's smart drummer or whatever it's called for the drum track. The controls are a common complaint so far. I'll say it was a purposeful feature, I wanted to give the player so inertia so they can't turn on a dime. But I'm always open to feedback and will make those sensible adjustments going forward. Thanks for the feedback!
@arly maybe I explained that poorly, but it's technically still game over even if you grab the last coin. I tried to balance racing for coins and bashing dragons. Dragons drop their coins when they die ;) Thanks for the feedback though. That was helpful.
@lmb thanks for the great feedback! I'll think about the simple/hard balance. If you have suggestions, I'm all ears. I have some ideas for post-compo work and I'll be sure to ping you when I have an update.
Re: "strong connection with the theme": Valid point. It's an admittedly shallow connection. The more gold you have, the more dragons come, which makes it worse. I realized that but it was too late to change course or shoehorn something else in. I was glad to see so many other creative implementations of the theme though.
Thanks for playing @sean-s-leblanc. I'll note your feedback when I work on it post compo. Btw I LOVE your game. In my top 5 for sure.
I don't have a numpad on my keyboard. Does that mean P2 can't jump?
Well made. I like the character model and its reactions. The mouse controls are a little sensitive but it's a fun game.
This is pretty fun! You fit the theme well. The bouncy Fury character in the intro looked like he had to go pee haha.
Love the music!! And the hand-drawn style.
Very interesting game, you sometimes *want* to take damage. Great job on the player sprite and animation.
The player was a little hard to control. Good job on the graphics.
Guys, quit pushing my building over! This is a fun game. Well done.
Very clean and consistent style. Love the music.
Nice balance of "you want these things because they help you reach stuff" and "you don't want these things because they kill you." Rating this high on theme!
It's not apparent that coins are bad. But I guess that's the point, you have to wait til you finish the game to see your fate.
Dude, you stole my game title! jk :) wish I could play yours but I don't have windows. Here's my similarly-named game if you're interested. Much obliged! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/mo-gold-mo-dragons
You shoulda offered audio ratings. I would've rated it highly. The coin sounds were very pleasing (wow I sound like a miser). Besides, I don't think people vote down for lack of music, just if the sounds that are there aren't any good. That could just be me though.
Also, just curious, why no web version? It doesn't seem like a resource-intensive game ;)
In my (limited) experience Unity does fine in browser if you knock the graphics settings down a few notches and don't use too many particle effects.
IMO you get way more plays if you offer a web version. Something to keep in mind for next time. I myself have only downloaded a tiny fraction of the ones I've rated in LD40. TBH the main reason I downloaded yours is reciprocity. I appreciated your comment on my game :)
Difficulty escalates quickly!
This is surprisingly polished for a compo. Well done! Nice sfx.
Thanks for the feedback on my game. My one gripe with this is I didn't know how to gather honey at first. Not a major thing though. I liked the music and it was fun dodging charging bees (similar to my game :)
Also, why did you opt out of so many rating categories? I was going to rate audio and mood.
