LD36 — Ancient Technology

Pigtraptions by HawkSandwich 2016-08-30T00:22:00

basically ditto to what NinjaNic says. I basically placed stuff around and the pig did not move or anything. I only got two parts for 3 spaces. Maybe I need more parts? idk

looks pretty good though.

LD38 — A Small World

The Earth is Flat by rin 2017-04-30T20:16:22Z

Cannot seem to play this game with the online link. :/ Also, not to be that guy but if you worked on a team this should be a Jam entry, not a Compo. Compo is for solo programing only.

No Coins Allowed by whooshy 2017-12-06T22:45:15Z

Great use of the theme. Honestly, I did not like this theme as "The more you have the worse it is" kind of describes pretty much every game ever when you think about it, but you actually used it for new and interesting game play successfully.

Greed is a $in by Linky439 2017-12-10T23:51:48Z

That was fun. The game is looks and sound great. I'm surprised you made all that art and music from scratch in the allotted time and still managed to make a polished game. The game is too easy for a while at the start and only becomes hard after several minutes. You spend the first several hanging out in the corner not moving much.

Not sure if this is a glitch, but at the end when I was ready to give up I just ran around and grabbed all the gold. Then, when greed mode activated, there was no gold so my guy just rammed into monsters automatically till he died.

Anyways, my Compo game is over here, if you want to have a look at it: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000

Radioactive Cavemen by deathray 2017-12-13T04:37:33Z

It has an addictive quality to it. However, I did not play it for too long because of the panning glitch. The screen would pan every time I tried to use any tool, not just pan, and it made progress annoying. I'm guessing that you forgot to cancel defaults maybe? With that fixed, and maybe a drag or "area" size tool would make this game much more enjoyable to play. Also, a little sound would make it pop. A quick atmospheric track would do and a few sfxr made effects would do.

Get Rid of It! by multiplexor 2017-12-05T04:37:29Z

I had some trouble with the WebGL so I downloaded it first. However, I tried it again and it turns out your WebGL is just not displaying a load screen or anything so it just looks like a black screen to me for 30 seconds before it plays so I thought it was broken. Tried to trouble shoot it for you but IDK. I turned off all my blockers and use Chrome, which I assume you do too, so I don't know why it's doing that. Anyways, the onto the game.

The graphics are very smooth. I'm great music for a Compo game. Most Compo games are missing that, as it is tricky to make your own tracks in on top of everything else. I got a lot of joy from cutting up the papers. It took me a try or two before I realized the trick was to click like a manic, then the game is easy. I did not care for the standard cut size. It made my strokes short when I tried for long and it made my cuts too easy by just by clicking. I would almost do away with the cut mechanic and just have the documents slice up if you click on them. That is pretty much what I was doing anyways. Good to try new things though.

Sorry, the game won't run. It pulls up errors on the title screen.

Don't click the button. by esenti 2017-12-05T05:40:49Z

K? It's a game for people who want to enter a 48 hour game making competition, but have something else to do for the other 47 and a half hours. :-P

GREED by Ethan Allwood 2017-12-05T05:58:09Z

High points for graphics and audio. If you made that all for the Compo, good job, I'm impressed. Otherwise, this seem like part of a much bigger game that is not done yet. It's a great base for something more, but honestly kind of dull in it's current form.

BOOM!: the more you have, the worse it gets by jacobturn 2017-12-10T23:11:58Z

Alright, took a bit to understand but I powered through it. Seems like there is a lot of content to this game, but the game itself is still very rough. I would say this game has the same issue I had with my earlier game jam entries, where I would try to make a full complete game in the short time frame and end up with an incomplete faulty game. While this game gets points for amount of content, it is still missing a lot of core stuff. The lack of sound is disappointing (use the free sfxr to make them fast), but also no UI and many graphical/game glitches. I think those should have been addressed before more content. I would suggest that next game jam to focus on just getting one level and the core game down, then only add more content if there is time. Unfortunately, while game jams can be a great place to display experimental games and get feedback, most game jam players don't spend more than few minutes per game. Got to hook them by then or you are not going to get them. Short and smooth, that is the new rule I follow for game jams (trying to anyways :-P ).

Be Yourself by Noa Calice 2017-12-05T05:32:50Z

Wow, very cool game. The graphics are great, the game is fun, the audio works well. Hard to give constructive feedback on this. :-P Really nailed it. I guess it is a bit hard as is and I can't predict the incoming globs far enough ahead to do much about it. I would say either add arrows pointing to incoming directions or make the sprites smaller? Just a thought. Could also have the ball head follow the mouse. I feel that the arrow keys movement is too slow and has difficultly landing accurately compared to mouse movements. I'd probably do a lot better and have more fun if the head just followed the mouse instead. But that is only really if I'm forced to be critical. Awesome game, top ratings all around!

Clean Food, Clean Mind by junjunlowpoly 2017-12-20T02:38:03Z

It's a pretty fun game and an interesting concept. Feels like it could be combined with a macro game pretty well. So my notes: -I like the background graphics much better than the tile graphics itself. Colorizing all the game tiles might be better to distinguish them. -I did not like the mouse mechanic and would prefer to just having tiles automatically combine (at least as a control option). It's just not the most comfortable control scheme with the mouse since it is not doing anything 95% of the time. -The difficulty curb is a bit reversed due to the mechanics. You get a lot of junkfood at the beginning (like 4-5 double-burger drops in a row) that tends to curb down as you make combos. So the game actually gets easier as you go along. -Some casual music would really make it pop.

Anyways, that is my notes. If you would like to return the feedback, check out my entry too. :-)

Feature Creep Inc by knarf 2017-12-20T18:26:14Z

Yeah, make a game jam game about making games for a game jam! That is how you get them sweet sweet ratings. ;-) Pretty fun after you get the hang of it. I mean, this game could be a LOT of fun when it is finished. So yeah, the game is obviously incomplete and glitchy but what it has it does well. The graphics and music are good and exploring is fun. Concept reminds me of Upgrade Complete. I'd definitely like to revisit this if finished. The only other thing I'd note is that the tutorial is a bit confusing. I kept clicking on the guy outside the house and could not get him to move. I reset a few times thinking it was broken before I found out that it was the guy INSIDE the house that I was supposed to click. Maybe move that outside guy a bit off initial screen to remove confusion. :-P

Squirrel Puncher 4000! by valkling-friend-of-all-things 2017-12-07T00:35:21Z

@tvance Yeah, thanks for playing. It's that you both block the yellow bullets by clicking on them AND also dodge the red flashes by using the arrow keys (or WASD) to move to the non-blinking side. So a red screen flash would mean you got hit with a red attack. I understand if you missed that though. One piece of feedback I'm getting is that some players are confused by the mechanics of my game. (My games tend to be confusing, I'm trying to work on that -_- ) I would adjust the game to make it easier to understand, but it is against compo rules to do so at this point. The most I can do is just clean up the instructions till post-comp.

Pretty, smooth, and bug free. The UI was great and everything you did was glitch free. The audio is good, but the levels could be more even. Finding the last brains is pretty frustrating, since their is no indication where they are and no landmarks to go by. :-/

Get Wasted! by Newton 2017-12-10T22:05:07Z

Fun little game, smooth for what it is. I'm not sure if the concept can last past a compo game but it kills a good few minutes. Music and graphics are simple but good and easy to understand. You can abuse the system in the current build by just staying in one bar and drinking intermittently and not have to move. Maybe just have a fixed drinking limit per bar to force players to move around.

Anyways, my Compo entry is over here, if you want to have a look. You can go pick a fight with a squirrel after getting drunk. :-P : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000

Hell Venture Tycoon by healthire 2017-12-06T23:16:06Z

Love the graphics and the game play is interesting for this type game. 2 notes: first, I was thrown off by the sacrifice alter because I did not realize that the alter does not appear until you click the tutorial box. I thought it was broken till I figured that out. Second, the lack of audio was a real shame. I'll admit that my first 2 jam games had minimal/no audio but then I found out it's actually quite quick and easy. Grab the free sfxr, that is listed in the Ludum Dare rules section, and make sound effects in like a minute. Music can be harder but, for a game like this, a 2 to 3 note atmospheric track would work. Slow down a sample loop, record some noise, or even a flawed melody line will sound creepy. Lots of easy ways to make a creepy atmospheric track. At my beginner music level, it is very hard NOT to make a creepy atmospheric track. Anything that sounds off will sound creepy.

Too Many Chooks by Schu 2017-12-05T03:32:51Z

Cute way to kill some time. Had some fun frying eggs. The difficulty curb was inconsistent, depending on if the first few are placed close to the middle or far apart and if the chickens decide to lay in salvos. The audio was appropriate, but I had to turn it down after a while. I like that you used your own chickens for the sounds. I used my dog's squeaky toy for SFX in another game jam (xkcd Game Jam).

My Compo game is over here, if you want to have a look. It's not as "Animal Friendly" as yours but they are evil cyborg squirrels so it's ok :-P https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000

Sticky Plague by Thesoreon 2017-12-06T23:59:07Z

Alright, I can get into this. I think the only things you are missing that would make this solid are some sound effects and damage animations. A little knock back on the smiles would be nice. The sword swings feel more like a damage aura that just hits slimes around me without more animation and SFX. Music is great for a Compo game.

Retro Rocket Run! by gwolf86 2017-12-10T23:31:01Z

It looks great and the sound is nice. Had fun with it. No surprises here for feedback, the lag is brutal. Otherwise, take care of that and this game is solid.

Smack`Em! by mess110 2017-12-05T05:07:22Z

Someone else made a mole game so I had to take a look! ^_^ (not for this Jam but for xkcd Game Jam 2 weeks ago. You can check it out here: https://valkling.itch.io/a-mole-of-moles)

Anyways, this is fun totally adorable. It is basically a wack-a-mole game that rewards accuracy rather than speed. I failed the first time in 3 seconds because I did not understand this. :-P It's a completely different wack-a-mole strategy! What !?! >_< Otherwise, the only note I'd make is better score display, maybe bigger and at the bottom. I did not even know it was there for like 3 games.

My Compo game is over here, if you want to have a look. It ALSO involves inflicting bludgeoning damage to animals, so our games have that in common. (they are evil cyborgs though, so it’s ok :-P) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000

Mo' Gold, Mo' Dragons by tvance 2017-12-06T23:36:33Z

Yeah, fun game! I'm also use javascript/canvas for game making. Small thing, you should cancel the defaults on the arrow keys, if you plan to use them in game, otherwise the screen scrolls around when you move. Maybe that is just a problem for me, as I don't typically use WADS (because I type Dvorak). Either way, good code, a lot cleaner than mine. :-P
