The graphics and audio were both great here! Very impressive! Made for a great take on a classic game.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD40 → Smack`Em!

Looks great, sounds great, plays great!
I got 19 :) ! Cool and cute 3D art ! With a simple and fun gameplay ! Even though I would say the theme is more THE MORE THERE ARE THE BEST and not the WORSE it is :) !
This is a fun remake of a classic arcade game.
I enjoyed it and the feel was just right.
Thanks.
I really like the style of the game, keep it up ! don't forget to check out my game too :)
Th graphics are great. I love that television like effect, the models are cute and the sound is great too. Both the music when you lose and the noise the creatures make when hit. Smacking cute little creatures is always satisfying.
Great Game, but I have a problem after the 4th or 5th Critter appeared I can't click them anymore.
WACK-A-MOLE! how did I not think of this!? spot on! damn pretty too!
@matthias-schedel thats quite strange. Which browser are you using?
Firefox 57
@matthias-schedel Hm.. I tried the same version on windows and it runs without problems. Not sure why. Does it behave the same way in chrome?
the sounds are great, love the little screams, good job!
Simple and great !
Simple and funny game! Sounds are hilarious! :D
Pretty fun and follows the theme. Good job!
Fun and simple, fits the theme really well. The graphics work well with the theme of the game, and I quite like the scan-line shader you have :)
Very good sound and graphics. It seemed like some of my clicks weren't whacking moles, but maybe that's because the hammer object was still on screen somewhere else? Anyway, it's a well polished game.
Simple concept and really good execution! Great job :)
Cool graphics and audio! not very innovative gameplay however.
The art looks great and it's functional, being as you ran out of time it doesn't seem to quite fit the theme however. But it's a game you knocked out in 48 hours, not gonna be to overly picky ;p
Everyone above is right: simple, beautiful and pleasant to the ear. That is a great game!
Looks and sounds great! Not much to the gameplay, but what is there is very satisfying!
Great graphics and sound. I wasn't really sure what the lose conditions were. Miss too many? What does "reload" mean and how do I do it?
@tvance reload reloads the level. Just click it. There is a timer, the more you hit, the more you can hit, but the more they come!
I like the scanline effect!
Running out of time could be clearer... maybe implement a warning sound for the last three seconds or so?
114 ahhh yeeuh, once I realized misses take away time then it was on! very fun
I never though I'd get a chance to say a whack a mole game looks aesthetically pleasing yet here we are.
Hey it's a simple concept and very well executed for the platform of choice. Ran perfectly fine in my browser. Definitely provides a good challenge. Well done!
Looks great and well executed!
Can't believe you made this in 48 hours GG!
Classical whackamole. Simple yet fun, I liked it and it looked visually nice as well.
Absolutelly beautiful game! The gameplay is fast, action-packed and rewarding. Got 178 on my second try!
haw haw haww)) wahahaah 10/10
I will post periodic updates with high scores. Stay tuned and thanks everyone for the feedback
Simple but well executed. Really loved the visuals and audio. Would love to see it developed further.
That's quite amazing for 48 hours, well done
A pretty game, with some great humor. The game is overall okay, but I would have liked a bit more of a twist of the classic game idea.
Nice Modelling and shaders.
Funny little game. I appreciate that work on the animations!
Very polished audio and graphics. Nice work.
The polish is amazing on this one.
Is it bad if the thing that made me laugh the most was not the awesome and goofy graphics (perfect for the mood of the game btw) but instead the fact that you played "cant touch this" at the beginning and the end of the round? Lol! nice touch :)
Audio and graphics are really nice. Unfortunately, the game did not run very well for me, but that is probably more of a reflection on my computer than anything else. Either way, I enjoyed playing.
@belowparallel-ian you could try to "Enable Hardware Acceleration In Chrome" (google). If you are running on CPU it probably is very laggy
It's just great! Makes me think about the arcade game. Great work for 48 hours!
Game is fun and simply. I don't know what the deal was but I couldn't get audio out of it for like 10 minutes. It seems to load slowly for me.
Love the visuals and audio. Gameplay was simple but solid and worked well as a web game GJ \o/
Very nostalgic! <3 I use to play games like this irl.
Nice work!!! Love the audio so much :)
Someone else made a mole game so I had to take a look! ^_^ (not for this Jam but for xkcd Game Jam 2 weeks ago. You can check it out here: https://valkling.itch.io/a-mole-of-moles)
Anyways, this is fun totally adorable. It is basically a wack-a-mole game that rewards accuracy rather than speed. I failed the first time in 3 seconds because I did not understand this. :-P It's a completely different wack-a-mole strategy! What !?! >_< Otherwise, the only note I'd make is better score display, maybe bigger and at the bottom. I did not even know it was there for like 3 games.
My Compo game is over here, if you want to have a look. It ALSO involves inflicting bludgeoning damage to animals, so our games have that in common. (they are evil cyborgs though, so it’s ok :-P) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/squirrel-puncher-4000
its whack-a-mole
The whacking felt really responsive and snappy, so that's very good. Also loved the graphics and audio design :D
Very cool graphics! The game wasn't working for me in chrome and I had to use firefox. My OS is windows. Enjoyed the game. Congrats!
Hehe, nice and funny take on an old classic! :D
High score of 72! Just your average wack-a-mole game, nothing to criticize as it was all done well. Good work with the models and animations.
Nice, could be a bit more clear when its game over. Thought my mouse stopped working. Really nice looking game
Nice, could be a bit more clear when its game over. Thought my mouse stopped working. Really nice looking game
Fun game with beautiful graphics. There is a reason this game is one of the base classics and the fact that it fits the theme perfectly, makes it even better! Sadly, I cant play it with my volume up right now, so I wont rate the audio yet. Since you made it with "your trusty guitar", as you mentioned, I will definetly come back to that!!
As some already mentioned, the losing screen is too subtle. Maybe its indicated by sound that I cant hear by now. But still. I would keep the fact that all critters are up, but I would also add some "game over" and a final score or something.
Cool! :)
Simple idea, Solid execution. Looks good, feels good, sounds good.
Really nice graphics! The game-over feedback could've been better. Overall, solid nice entry. Keep up the good work!
You had me on the adorable rendition of hammer time :joy: A simple concept but quality execution
LOOOOOOL! Loved this game when I was young! That's adorable!
That sure is a mouse clicking work-out. The look of the game is great and I like the old CRT scanline look of it. I do wish there was a bit more clear feedback when the game is over. I kept clicking until I realized nothing was happening. The audio fits the goofiness of the little moles too. Nice job
Simple idea with near perfect execution. Your production skills are clearly very high, push the gameplay a step further to make this exceptional. Loved the google eyes and sound effects.
Must. Click. Faster.
Looks very good.
the old crt look gives it a nice feel and the music&sfx are also on point
Were able to make only 30 hits, then it´s mission imposible :D someone who has more? :D Anyway, good and funny game made me recall good old days.. :D
I love this game, I was little confused about how I won or lost, but this is amazing! :) Loved the arcade styling!
Highscore was 11... I am not quick enough for this :D Fun though!!!
Nice game ! Good work !
Nice 3d graphics and polish!
Great Graphics, great sound - Feels really polished! I could totally see this implemented as a minigame in a published full price title! Also I managed 34 moles.
Really good style, it looked very polished!
Haha this is great! Simple gameplay with cute 3d graphics and adorable sound effects. Love it! :)
I'm addicted to this game!!! It's very good! Congratulations! The sounds are very good. Simple yet coherent and very well applied. The scanline filter made it even better, because reminded me of the 90's, playing on my old PS1. Good times... *sheds a tear*
Fun implementation of hammer time + nice graphics! Thumbs up for using WebGL!
Looks absolutely fantastic!
The game play itself gets old fast, but in a weird way it made me want to go to the arcade and wack some moles!
Great job!
Such a cute game! Loved the graphics.
Looks great, sounds great, plays great!
Hey dude! It's so cute! Is a little bit simple but works fine! I love the graphics!
Nice job! Congratulations and good luck!
graphics and sound are wonderful. I love the classic game. The only tip might add would be a bit of a delay at the beginning before the moles start popping up. so that you aren't missing them while the screen is fading in.
Cool little game. Very cute moles. I would recommend putting some darker shapes behind the score and time, so that they are easier to see. I didn't even notice them at my first try. Keep up the good work!
"Can't touch this" - made my day :D Awesome!!! My hand hurts :)
That is very classic!I like the graphics, and characters are just so cute
Great SFX! Ultimately this is a fun carnival game, but it wasn't unique at all so there was no "hook" (no judgement, my own entry was pretty lame and not unique). Still though, it's super cute and my kid was fully enthralled so well done!
awesome work in the 3d graphics! !
Wow, how could you make those graphics?
Haha i'm really impressed, also liked the sound effects, it is really a professional work!
Congratulations on that entry (:
Great entry. Love the graphics and the sound
Great game. I really love the gameplay and graphics!
If you are interested, please check out my LD40 game [Escape Infection!](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/escape-infection)
Ahah i had to spend some time playing x) Hope the game will be available for a long time eheh. Really cool ! ( 89 ! yep I'm proud of that )
nice job on a fun game!
Classic but nice execution. It's a good training for mouse aiming :p
Theme connection is great and this is a very creative take on it, I also really enjoyed the graphic style. I felt the controls were unresponsive though. Sometimes I thought I clicked on the mole but I must have missed the hit box. Anyways I think a more forgiving hitbox that maybe even extends farther than the actual hole would fix this feeling. Overall its a fun little game that is very unique. Good work!
I think I'd really appreciate a downloadable version; a lot of these web builds are playable but lag a fair amount and for a game like this I want to make sure the controls are responsive, because it's very cute and fun!
One of the cool things about doing a classic idea like whack-a-mole is that you get to emphasize the things you love to work on during a project. In this case, it's clear that you've put a lot of effort into making it an attractive-looking game with clever sounds effects and a great sounding guitar track! What i'd love to have seen improved w/ this iteration is the size and color of the text for the score. It took me a little bit to figure out if the game even did keep rack of score since it is hard to see the tiny text in the top left corner.
Also, I was playing this on a laptop and am kind of surprised i was able to get 30+ points on a touch pad :p.
Great job at recognizing whack-a-mole as perfect for this theme and bringing it to life. Great job!
Like some people the game only runs on firefox, but anyway the game is great I would even download internet explore to play it, it is kinda weird but in a good way, really good concept, the art looks really good and it has its own style, the music is good ! Great job !
Can I use this game as an arguement for GUI vs CLI holywar, because if I could use keyboard to smack em, I would score far more points? =)
I love this graphics style and sound effects. Great reincarnation of classic Whac-a-Mole game!
Really fast loading time, well done. Good choice of technology.
Animatinos were good and the characters looked funny. Not sure about the post processing horizontal line shader, but I guess it added to the arcade feel.
Fun game. Could do with a sound effect when you miss so you nknow you did a bad thing, I was a bit confused at the beginning as to why the game was ending.
Really fun classic, the visual and audio are top-notch to be honest. Really love the kind "vhs" feeling to it. The only thing I would say is I felt there was something "wrong" with the input, I couldn't, say exactly what but really great entry overall.
Nice remake ! Quite addictive !
Quite funny and very nice work for content-wise. It could use some gimmick to differentiate from a standard Whack-a-mole game though.
Classic whack a mole, great fun. Looks good and runs smoothly in a browser. My best score is.. wait, I'll give it another try... nope, still 50. My only criticism is that it is somewhat difficult to understand where exactly the hammer will hit. And when the hammer is there it is hard to see what is behind it.
Cool game! I really liked the visuals. It would have liked if the score and timer was a little more clear. In the beginning I din't notice the timer and was wondering why the game stopped. Other than that, it's a fun simple game so well done!
I do like the graphics and the game is quite well polished
Not a very original idea but the game plays, looks and sounds great.
whack-a-mole is a classic. not very original, but I had a fun time playing! and it looks really polished as well for a gamejam-game :) and I really love the CRT-filter (I use one myself) :)
I've already reviewed your game, but I came here to tell you that the shop button was fixed in Tiny Empires, so it is now playable. If you want to give it another go Id appreciate that.
Simple and classic, But not original at all...
Wow, it looks very cool! Beautiful background, soft sounds, great animated and voiced dudes :D This game definitely cheers up!
PS. Did you really play on the guitar for the sound in your game? What a hardcore, I'm impressed!
63 . Graphics are awesome ! But there is no music ? As hectic as it should be ? As rousing as it should be ? As cute as it makes the game really addictive ? Too bad :/ The sounds are great nonetheless. Gameplay is quite simple, you know that I think, but it works well with the theme.
Cool overall game. Keep coding !
Nice sounds and nice graphic, really laughted smashin them!
The graphic with post processing effect are gorgeous, but in case is there works with theme? it's only a simply playing hamster game :/
The graphics have a lot of personality, but my reactions times aren't what they used to be (he says, peering over his glasses and wishing that they were bifocal). I find myself wanting to imitate the mole noises, but I am worried the other occupants of my household will mistake me for one and whack me in the head.
Though the game isn't exactly original, it was pretty fun to play. The gameplay mechanics felt pretty polished and the difficulty was not too hard or too easy. I also loved the cute 3D graphics and funny sound effects. If you are planning to expand this game, I would recommend adding music, a main menu, a tutorial, and leaderboards. Overall, playing the game was pretty calming and relaxing.
Classic arcade. I miss some innovation of the game concept. The visuals and sounds are simply amazing! Tried WebGL version on a touch-screen laptop and it works nicely. Reading the comments, I actually miss a leaderboard too.
Loved the scanlines and retro feel of the screen. The gameplay loop is very solid and it felt like a polished game. Honestly, I could see this being up on a website as a released minigame and never have guessed that it was made in a game jam deadline.
Really cool game, the art and sonds are outstanding. Really loved the filter effect. My favorite
This looked great, but I couldn't tell if I was winning or losing. I assume the only way to restart was to refresh my browser?
Hi everyone, thanks a lot for the feedback. Here is a summary of the scores: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/smackem/$70982
@seannoonan there should be a reload button in the bottom left
Hah, this is a great spin on the classic. Cute art!!
I played it on mute first and then realized I need to put on my headphones and the audio just killed me xD The creatures (moles?) were cute, but I would have wished for the animations to have more variance, i.e. that one creature does not always the same thing. You made several animaitons anyway, you could just randomly switch between them. My highscore was just 21 xD
Very cute graphics, game is cool and well polished, great entry !
This is really fun, but the difficulty should probably keep increasing slightly over time (or a different mode where there's no cap on it). After like 10 attempts I could just keep going indefinitely without my time ever running out. Got a score of 5050 and had 200 seconds left on the timer near the end :P
Really nice animations!
Pretty solid wack-a-mole game. I like the original guitar music. I'm really not sure how it fits the theme. I guess the more moles there are the worse it is trying to hit them. The television scanline effect was nice. The hammer model was well done and the animations on the moles looked really good.
Colorful art, Nice audio effects. A bit too fast to my taste. Reminded me of real world arcade games, thanks.
The moles are really fast.
Fun game. I like it :D
It reminded me my childhood, classic one also fun! Although I am not very good at games. Very enjoyable smooth animation, well done!
