LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Cool Hat Mr. Hat by bitslap 2017-12-06T04:10:03Z

Good work; made me play for a good bit which tells me that the worst thing about it is that I want more! The feedback is well done and makes for some strong base gameplay. The most important part of a game like this is to make sure it feels good to play and you nailed that!

Micro Trooper by Split82 2017-12-08T18:29:16Z

As pretty much everyone has mentioned, this is a really solid entry, but I think that it could have used a bit more tie in with the theme. Went for a pretty standard approach and that makes it really flexible for whatever future you might have planned for it. I'm a big fang of Super Crate Box and Downwell, but it's BECAUSE of that that I wish you went a bit further in creating your own identity here. Your game-feel is top notch, so keep it up!

Apokalipsa by srakowski 2017-12-07T00:51:09Z

Spent a lot of time in this game... I quite enjoyed the concept but I'll have to agree with earlier comments that it was a bit intimidating and unclear at first. By the time I realized what I was doing I had a lot of regrets haha. This has some good atmosphere and makes for a nice short version of a Risk/Civilization type game kept with a small scope. Good work!

Dangle Copter by pkenney 2017-12-05T01:26:37Z

The game is quite funny as it introduces itself and the controls/gameplay definitely give me the feeling of comical distress that the protagonist has. It's already a pretty short experience, but it likely could have been shorter while ramping the difficulty up more quickly. This game is pretty hard, so knowing I could get by just bringing 1 or 2 at a time made me less willing to try as hard in the last few levels. (That has some pretty gruesome implications for such a quirky game)

Overall this is nice. The graphics work (the backgrounds should match resolution and crispness of the game objects though) and the theme is done in an interesting way. Good work!

The lost strawberry by egordorichev 2017-12-06T03:49:00Z

I think the game makes for some great screenshots, but mainly wants me to see what else you're capable of. Mechanics that actively work against the player as a core of the theme is a standard take on the theme which isn't inherently bad, but needs some fine tuning here for certain. Your production values are quite solid, so again, while I think this game is serviceable albeit lacking in strong gameplay execution, what it DOES do is make me ask "wow, I wonder what this person would make given more time!"

Critter Sitter by dvdfu 2017-12-07T00:03:29Z

So sad that this hasn't been getting attention! This is a great and cute game that manages to be innovate with the theme without overdoing it. The visuals are very nice and the sound effects provide great feedback. I don't like babysitting but these monsters made it fun! Good work!

Knights and Kings by Chaosinism 2017-12-07T00:22:40Z

I do like the realtime chess component a lot but there are some aspects regarding defined ways enemy pieces can move and fly-by knockouts that detract from the experience a bit. I think you can definitely take this further even without the chess skin and turn into something neat!

Cardhoard by HacksawUnit 2017-12-06T03:43:39Z

I wouldn't be surprised to see this game take 1st in one category or another. Given how many of these I want to play, running across the ones that make me say "just one more!" is really impressive.

INFINITORY by electr1ca 2017-12-07T01:51:37Z

There's a strong foundation here and this is one of the only times I've heard audio that was genuinely catchy, though the sounds could likely have been better balanced. Some more feeling in feedback when attacking enemies would be appreciated, but as it is the game looks good and the platforming feels good, so all that's left is for attacking to feel a bit better. Good work, this is definitely one of the stronger entries!

Cowquest by papacheech 2017-12-05T01:29:10Z

Everyone has been noting the same thing I'd say is the game's strongest suit; the humor. It's very simple but amusing and provides some character to what would otherwise be a fairly straightforward escort/object defense game. There are some odd behaviors in the physics but the game serves its purpose overall. Also, for being new to pixel art you've done a pretty good job!!

Pac Attack by tjxx 2017-12-06T03:33:21Z

It was a good effort to recreate pacman but I'd like to see your personal spin on it. Additionally, I think that in this case you might have been better off without sound, as the only sound in place is pretty harsh.

Furtive Fortune by Jake White 2017-12-06T23:51:32Z

This was a great concept that I actually would love to see in a larger scale game. Maybe not as a base concept (though that was very clever for this jam as many people took far too obvious a take on the money theme) but man, I'd love to see a thief type game where your avarice WILL make things harder for yourself. Games where the difficulty is really a choice of your own hubris stand out to me, and this is one of them!

Needless to say I was way too greedy and it made getting through later stages pretty much impossible :P

Sunken by Tay 2017-12-08T18:08:46Z

I would have like for the theme to have tied in a bit more. Money weighing you down is definitely done in a lot of these games and it doesn't stand out as a big feature in this game as much as the rest of the dungeon crawling which is simple but solid. I think the audio could have been balanced a bit better as well, as the sounds were far too loud compared to the music.

The core of the game is solid but the character could have stood out a bit more as well, otherwise the visuals are well made. I'd like to see this evolved into some kind of pocket dungeon crawler game, it would be a great fit for mobile/handhelds!

A simple man by edmond00 2017-12-07T01:41:55Z

While I love the mood and atmosphere of the game (always happy to see another game focus on atmosphere and narrative through mechanics) I have to question the necessity of the procedurally generated world. I don't think your game would have lost much from just being a straight path from left to right in a simple handcrafted level, as there is not much need for each experience or run through to be unique. Rather, I think in this case just having basic point A - Point B level design would have worked fine. The procedural generation is mostly fine, but I wonder if that time would not have been better spent elsewhere because I really do love the atmosphere of this game. Great work, and I definitely want to see more from you!

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-07T00:34:38Z

This could certainly do with a bit of polish, you have a good foundation but I can feel that you didn't have the time to do everything you wanted. I think first and foremost you want to make the base gameplay feel as good as possible, so making the controls more responsive and providing more interesting feedback whenever you jump, attack, collect coins, etc. will help the base game a lot without even having to add content. Best of luck in your future work, I'm sure you can keep at it!

Waiter, Please! by Chin Jieh 2017-12-06T23:48:19Z

Excellent execution of this concept; it's no secret that being a waiter is difficult but damn you sure as hell made me FEEL it. Having been a food runner myself I'd almost say this is harder! I never got used to the controls really but it didn't stop me from having fun, so good work!

Magus O-Minus by Nucleose 2017-12-10T01:58:43Z

Sorry folks, for some reason there's an error at the end of the catwalks that doesn't allow you to see the game end screen despite... well reaching the end. I'll try to get it fixed by the end of the weekend! Thank you for all your feedback and support so far! :) This is my first Compo so I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish

Magus O-Minus by Nucleose 2017-12-11T02:31:39Z

@jorgegamedev Thank you so much! This means a lot to me, especially because I'd never had confidence that I could really make much of an impactful game. I'll definitely be utilizing what you've mentioned as criticisms to improve my future endeavors!

Smack`Em! by mess110 2017-12-07T00:18:29Z

I think I'd really appreciate a downloadable version; a lot of these web builds are playable but lag a fair amount and for a game like this I want to make sure the controls are responsive, because it's very cute and fun!

Vault Loot by ghostlygurustudios 2017-12-07T02:02:20Z

I love how good the loot sprites look; really makes me want to collect everything I see! The main thing is having played a good number of these already, "resource makes you heavier" is a pretty standard take on the theme, so in exchange I was hoping to see a bit more polish on the moment to moment gameplay. There are too many exact boxy collisions going on in the level which is frustrating whether or not I have much loot on me, and given that I already have to worry about loot slowing me down I kind of wish the level itself didn't stop me on every half corner of a box I run into. This is pretty close to being a great product so I'm sure a week or two of work will make this feel complete. Good work!

BURROWED TIME by endesga 2017-12-06T03:42:45Z

This is easily one of the highest quality games I've played, but I'm sure on some level you know that. What really gets me is how effective the heatmap feature is at its job; I wish I had thought of something like that for my own game! Definitely giving you a follow.

Immune Invasion by Chong Lee 2017-12-05T02:26:22Z

Sound design and art direction create a strong atmosphere, I do wish more changed as time went on though. After surviving for a while I couldn't feel much motivation to keep going. Sound design and art direction create a strong atmosphere, I do wish more changed as time went on though. Though, I do wonder what the point of having "controls" besides mouse location and the antibodies switch is when all the actions the player can take with clicks are actions that they should essentially be executing at all times. I think the overall package is great however, and the work you put in shows!

Darklike by clachipso 2017-12-08T18:37:30Z

Strong graphics and sound work here, and once I understood what was going on with the gameplay I was pretty content with it but seeing that there was no notable end to the game and your flashes/vision never reset meant I didn't feel much motivation to keep going or trying again once I made it as far as I could. I'd love to see whatever projects you're working on because your style is really nice!
