Unfortunately it is impossible to run the game on windows x64 since you only added the OpelAL32.dll but not the OpenAL64.dll
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD40 → Dungeon Hoard

It doesnt for on mac, syslog: com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.mru.ld40.LD40.17536[10658])
@teekeks @matthias-schedel Sorry, I didn't test most of the executables that jmonkey ide auto-generates. I just got rid of them. The jar file is multi-platform and please use that instead.
I did use the jar, still same error on win x64
Nice work :) - I like the stabbing sound but the jump sound is a little bit annoying when you jump to often.
**Diary of my hero, last entry** "So many coins in my chest, but those sneaky little goblins still come.. I followed one to the Edge of the World yesterday and seen him disappearing with one of my *precious* coins. I feel strong urge to follow him and find the secret level they told me about as a child..."
First of well done on getting the game completed in the short time. Some things that stood out: 1. I like the art style of the game. 2. Instructions were simple but understandable.
What would make it better: 1. I would add more gravity to the player. 2. Increase movement speed. 3. Sometimes the goblins fell of the platform.
Other than that I love the idea.
Hello, I failed to get your game to run on my system :( When I downloaded the windows x86 version it gave the error: Failed to find main application jar! app/Dungeon hoard.jar
So i tried renaming the LD40.jar to dungeon hoard.jar But then I got the following error: Failed to open registry key! SOFTWARE/Javasoft/Java runtime environment No bundled runtime and cannot find system JRE Failed to launch JVM
I will try to download/redownload JRE and try again
@tgiant Thanks a ton for the feedback! When you say gobs fell off the platform, were they running off the end with your coin or running away from you, or were they glitching through somewhere?
Well it seems like the were walking away from the player to the end of the platform and just kept on walking.
@tgiant Yep, if they have a coin or are running away they'll jump off the platform, it's how they get away with your money :)
I really like the animation of the little goblins walking away with the giant coins.
@playball sorry, the executable files weren't working correctly so I got rid of them. I think when they get built they get packaged differently and the jar gets messed up if you start modifying things. Try downloading Dungeon Hoard-Jar, it should automatically generate the missing dlls for it to run properly
Simple game, but very effective I think. It would benefit a lot from a visual cue for when you have a coin. I was getting confused as to why pickups weren't working but I had to return to the chest before I could pick up another. Aside from that, the concept adds weight to otherwise meaningless pickups which is a big plus in my book :)
Ah, got it to work with just the Jar file :)
some music is missing and the controls need a little polish. After a minute or so it gets boring, the spawn rate of the goblins should increase with time so the player doesn't get bored collection coins. But overall it was good.
@theloneplant Thank you for the feedback, I would have loved to add a coin-carry animation, but being my first time with sprite animations I wasn't sure the best way to do it without re-doing nearly all the animations. I probably could have just added a symbol saying you picked up the coin.
@the-bm Thank you for the feedback. I decided to opt-out of bg music because most people are only going to play this game long enough to vote on it, and I didn't want to listen to the same loop every time I tested it XD As for gob spawns they increase, 1 gob for every 3 coins in your hoard. It might be a little slow but when testing I found that after about 2-3 minutes you're pushed very hard to keep the little buggers from stealing from your hoard.
Graphics were nice, and sound was very retro. However, the gameplay was monotonous and boring.
I like the art and atmosphere, but I'm not sure I understand the game - I'm unable to pick up any coins from killed creatures?
@wskilljoy Thanks for the feedback! This was my first ever game jam and I over-worked myself the first 30 some hours getting the systems in place. After that I was too drained to add much content. I'll probably update this game post-jam with a few more enemies and better progression which will hopefully make it less boring.
@are-sundness You can only carry 1 coin at a time, if you are unable to pickup a coin from a dead gob you probably have one in your pocket already. I didn't get around to adding a visual cue, but you need to drop the coin into your hoard before you can grab another. Sorry for the confusion
Ah, the one-coin-at-a-time thing was confusing, but good job for finishing! It's really difficult to make anything for a game jam, especially a short one like LD
Aaah I see @mruniverse - will try it again :)
I really like the sprites.
nice game, graphics are nice,i don't really understood everything but i like coins :3
I really enjoyed the sprites, maybe add a less "noticeable" sound effect to the jump and definitely add more gravity! But it was well executed, a nice concept, with more enemies, weapons, upgrades, etç etç, could be a great game!
liked graphics very much. maybe you need to speed it up a little every time you brought coin to point?
Good artwork. The sounds could use some more work. Nice Job!
The enemy that stole your gold and the necessity to go put one coin in your chest before taking one other are interesting. However you should show when the character has a gold to put in the chest because I take time to figure why I could not take the other coin. The animation are also good. The game is may be a little easy.
Ace game with some very cool artwork! It's nice to see a fellow Java developer :) I think some sort of tutorial to explain the game might have helped, though, as it's a bit confusing at first.
@edmond00 Thank you for the feedback! I plan on re-working the game in the future to include some symbol showing the player is carrying a coin and hopefully add some variety to the enemies! @tom-panton Thank you! The java game community exists, we are just in the shadow of popular game engines like Unity >.<
This reminded me of old game&watch games, which in my book is definitely a good point. I do think, however, that it could use a sharper increase in pace as you gather more coins.
This could certainly do with a bit of polish, you have a good foundation but I can feel that you didn't have the time to do everything you wanted. I think first and foremost you want to make the base gameplay feel as good as possible, so making the controls more responsive and providing more interesting feedback whenever you jump, attack, collect coins, etc. will help the base game a lot without even having to add content. Best of luck in your future work, I'm sure you can keep at it!
more fun than i thought it was going to be - the concept is great - keep it up
