LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Haven by William Bundy 2017-12-04T14:07:40Z

Definitely needs fast reading skills, some messages are so useless it's funny. Not knowing if a message is helpful or just a waste of time really makes you want to click through them as fast as possible. Neat idea!

Fatcat's Trip by rayriver 2017-12-04T14:24:24Z

Fat cats make everything better. Very well made game. I like the effect you leave behind when you lose weight ;)

EARTH BLOSSOM by Zarkonnen 2017-12-04T11:31:34Z

I can finally fulfill my dream of becoming a giant space blob and devour civilizations!

Lux Portable by teekeks 2017-12-04T10:55:30Z

Nice puzzle game, the puzzles were complex and having multiple balls made it a real challenge!

Escape the Deep by tgiant 2017-12-04T09:43:51Z

Very polished, it took me awhile to realize I was getting slower the more little guys I saved. Then I accidentally shot a little guy, wasn't expecting that!

ZhenCo Ghost Management by amras0000 2017-12-04T13:08:03Z

Very impressive, the scripting is super easy to pick up on and I can see how this could easily grow to a be very very difficult puzzle game. Nicely done ;)

LAGimals by rincewind-cz 2017-12-04T11:08:29Z

Game runs super smooth on computer, so not much lag. The levels didn't seem to be affected in any way by what I was clicking. Sometimes I would click on the correct creature and still have to click on them all before it would move on. The artwork is nice and I can see where playing on a touchscreen would have a different experience.

A simple man by edmond00 2017-12-04T13:33:09Z

Very interesting, narrative piece. The art is very pretty and the simplicity lends itself to the scaling effect. After going left for so long the game tells you to go right, which was a really long way to go.

DEEPER by vizitas 2017-12-04T20:41:24Z

Very nice setting, the pitch black water really sets the mood. The maze is extremely disorienting and I was quickly lost. The bubbles always go up trick helps a little. I was getting dizzy with the camera movements though, maybe smooth out the rotation a little so it's less jarring. The diver also seems very fuzzy compared to the surroundings and treasure chests.

Level Onslaught by OrciFried 2017-12-04T20:29:38Z

Great art, very tough. The attack animation makes it seem like your range is way shorter than it actually is.

Junk by jjjjason 2017-12-04T09:34:17Z

I just finished a game started by someone I see here in the comments, which is pleasing me to no end. Very neat idea to refresh an existing game!

Retro Rocket Run! by gwolf86 2017-12-04T12:43:58Z

gtx1060, i7 @ 2.97ghz, chrome. Definitely lost frames the minute I started running through the coin field. The "pickups" should have some sort of notification when they activate, as I went off the screen a number of times when I picked up an invert and an invisibility in quick succession.

Workaround! by playball 2017-12-04T11:20:08Z

Ohh wow, if this is cubicle life I don't want it! So many interruptions!

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T09:56:51Z

@teekeks @matthias-schedel Sorry, I didn't test most of the executables that jmonkey ide auto-generates. I just got rid of them. The jar file is multi-platform and please use that instead.

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T10:17:40Z

@tgiant Thanks a ton for the feedback! When you say gobs fell off the platform, were they running off the end with your coin or running away from you, or were they glitching through somewhere?

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T10:22:08Z

@tgiant Yep, if they have a coin or are running away they'll jump off the platform, it's how they get away with your money :)

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T10:24:53Z

@playball sorry, the executable files weren't working correctly so I got rid of them. I think when they get built they get packaged differently and the jar gets messed up if you start modifying things. Try downloading Dungeon Hoard-Jar, it should automatically generate the missing dlls for it to run properly

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T10:38:12Z

@theloneplant Thank you for the feedback, I would have loved to add a coin-carry animation, but being my first time with sprite animations I wasn't sure the best way to do it without re-doing nearly all the animations. I probably could have just added a symbol saying you picked up the coin.

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T10:39:43Z

@the-bm Thank you for the feedback. I decided to opt-out of bg music because most people are only going to play this game long enough to vote on it, and I didn't want to listen to the same loop every time I tested it XD As for gob spawns they increase, 1 gob for every 3 coins in your hoard. It might be a little slow but when testing I found that after about 2-3 minutes you're pushed very hard to keep the little buggers from stealing from your hoard.

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T13:11:44Z

@wskilljoy Thanks for the feedback! This was my first ever game jam and I over-worked myself the first 30 some hours getting the systems in place. After that I was too drained to add much content. I'll probably update this game post-jam with a few more enemies and better progression which will hopefully make it less boring.

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-04T13:14:03Z

@are-sundness You can only carry 1 coin at a time, if you are unable to pickup a coin from a dead gob you probably have one in your pocket already. I didn't get around to adding a visual cue, but you need to drop the coin into your hoard before you can grab another. Sorry for the confusion

Dungeon Hoard by MRUniverse 2017-12-06T00:21:00Z

@edmond00 Thank you for the feedback! I plan on re-working the game in the future to include some symbol showing the player is carrying a coin and hopefully add some variety to the enemies! @tom-panton Thank you! The java game community exists, we are just in the shadow of popular game engines like Unity >.<

Slimefestation by Keppu 2017-12-04T14:51:42Z

The red slimes spraying everywhere was alarming, I hadn't noticed them sneak off to a corner to multiply! Neat game, but very hard. Once there are enough red slimes you can't really stop them from getting to the center. Also not sure about giving the slimes away, I assume you hand a blue slime to the man on the left? I couldn't get it to work though.

Catamari by Kieran Newland 2017-12-04T14:46:30Z

Eating with your face is hard! I missed the face part in the instructions and spent the first minute or so trying to eat a sausage with my bum......

Fast Frontier by Ohmi 2017-12-04T10:05:10Z

fun little game. It's hard to tell how powerful your ammo is, the shots seemed to do random damage, sometimes killing tanks in 1 hit others times multiple, not really tied to how many I had in store. I did shoot an incoming shot out of the air though, which made me laugh!

Bazooka Arms by DrFallos 2017-12-04T14:58:04Z

Very interesting concept, took me a minute to figure out you can change colors by moving but once I did I was able to beat back all the walls.

Too Many Rules! by Who 2017-12-04T09:18:38Z

I liked this game, like others had said it sort of gives me a "keep talking and nobody explodes" vibe. Only problem is I had some contradictory rules generate (move lever when blue at 100%, push button when blue at 100%) and if I did one it would auto fail the other. Not bad overall and the control board was fun to manipulate :)

Mister President by Zinkler 2017-12-04T12:38:02Z

I'm not sure some of the options are working correctly. Several times I was asked to donate money, refused and still the money was taken. The artwork really is good though, and I can see the direction you were taking this game. I'd be interested to see what you could turn this into given more time.

AntiBucket by wsKilljoy 2017-12-04T12:53:44Z

Nice twist on the collect falling objects games. The screen shake effect when you hit a raindrop is very jarring though

Sky-Corsair by Sozey 2017-12-04T12:23:44Z

Those rocks are mean! definitely needs the re-play button, text-scroll speed could also be higher as the captain takes forever to say anything. Then again he could be one of those people who talks slow as can be but demand to be heard all the way through XD

Fat&Mad by The_BM 2017-12-04T11:41:28Z

Such a fat, happy square. Good use of the theme. I think you get fat a little too fast though, almost un-flyable within minutes.

Fiscal Dungeon by Tom Panton 2017-12-06T00:25:25Z

This game made me laugh out loud! I wasn't expecting the explosion of coins upon my death, which came immediately after my utterance "I don't think I can die." It was hard to tell the difference between enemies you could pick up and enemies you had to destroy.

Don't get drunk by tulipekoni 2017-12-04T11:52:32Z

I recieved an error, "There should be 'Don't Get Drunk_Data' folder next to the executable"

Don't get drunk by tulipekoni 2017-12-04T12:17:22Z

Yes if your links aren't working please fix them or we cannot try your game!

Don't get drunk by tulipekoni 2017-12-04T12:30:58Z

The folder is missing. I'm not super familiar with unity but you might have to manually drag the data folder into the archive if it isn't doing so automatically

SHROOOMS by theloneplant 2017-12-04T11:38:01Z

I had an experience not unlike this once... Good game and the psychedelic effect has my head spinning!

One Million Dollars by Luxorix Games 2017-12-04T10:34:23Z

Am I the only one upset the bar is no longer an option when you have money? Great game, the metaphor is too real x.x

Greedy Buggy by Are Sundnes 2017-12-04T12:27:33Z

Cute, the buggy is easy to control and it feels very precise. Made balancing coins much less aggravating than I imagined it would be!

LD42 — Running out of space

CRAMMM: Totally Accurate Studying Simulator by tuism 2018-08-13T00:13:31Z

Great game! I like Trumpology. It needs a 1 key press to exit though (there might be one but I couldn't find it, had to alt-f4 to close). It could also use some way to hint at what words are right and wrong during gameplay. I know it highlights all wrong words at the end but with so many words popping up and flooding your brain it gets hard! Still had fun ;)

Ninja Escape by MRUniverse 2018-08-12T23:59:33Z

@Bensbuff thanks for playing, I agree I should have spent more time preventing the sticky movement

Ninja Escape by MRUniverse 2018-08-13T00:38:34Z

@stephen-coley Thanks for playing! I tested and you can indeed get the buttons when they're at the top corners, it is tough though. 110 is pretty good, I didn't get that high often while testing ;)

Stack City by HEXIEZ123 2018-08-13T00:07:14Z

You might be missing a file in the release, "The code execution cannot proceed because UnityPlayer.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

Protect the Core by Samuel Kriman 2018-08-13T00:04:27Z

Wow this looks really nice. The haze makes the whole thing seem like cells in a body. Hard to critique as I didn't run into anything that felt terribly wrong.

Doom Tower by Bensbuff 2018-08-12T23:58:32Z

Definately needs a score counter to tell how well you are doing, other than that it seemed solid.

Shipping Error by runner_alien 2018-08-13T00:22:06Z

Well designed, appears simple but becomes more and more difficult. Also took me entirely to long to realize the debris was alerting you before it dropped.

ROoS by Stephen Coley 2018-08-13T00:42:23Z

"You can jump if you have space" It said it so plainly but I failed to realize the weight it would carry. Nicely done, I liked it ;)

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Slime Laboratory by Jimbly 2018-12-03T22:52:38Z

I really enjoyed this! Slimes are great. Murdering slimes for their lifeblood is better. Feeding the lifeblood of murdered slimes to un-murdered slimes, priceless!

The Cold Equations by incobalt 2018-12-06T21:35:35Z

Playing recent space sims made me a terrible person, I jettisoned her before really delving to deep in the story. It needs some fast conclusion for doing so as once jettisoned I just sorta sat around. The story seems interesting though and I might check out the source!

Ludum Dare Simulator by Hempuli 2018-12-05T22:19:25Z

The LD style rating system at the end was icing on a pretty good cake.

Pirates may Cry by themarioga 2018-12-05T00:33:34Z

My only question is, why wasn't my rum gone? Resources depleted so slowly I was actively trying to cause shortages and couldn't lose. Game wound up crashing when I turned around from a whirlpool. The choices were fun and the Piratey theme was entertaining.

The Life of a Corporate Drone by Slashee the Cow 2018-12-05T00:20:42Z

Lost sleep, food and family... but at least I'm at work makin money!

Aetherspirit by gwinnell 2018-12-05T22:23:21Z

Very impressive for the compo! It's very polished and plays flawlessly.

Worthless Robots Fight by 01FE7E 2018-12-03T21:33:51Z

Controls were to far off screen to read, so I might be missing how to place robots. Ended up having to add them one at a time from left to right which was time consuming and not intuitive. I did enjoy the different types of robots and thought their different abilities were neat.

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-03T21:14:56Z

Thanks @wie , I'd love to polish this up and add more levels and some slime Textures. Glad you enjoyed it!

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-03T22:06:15Z

@sigton It's entirely possible to get eaten by other slimes, sadly I didn't add a way to notify you of such

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-04T21:24:51Z

@jimbly Thanks for the constructive feedback! Basically everything you mentioned are things I'd love to revisit. Sorry about the .zip name, I'll keep it in mind for next time. As for the glitch, can you remember what level you were stuck? You should still have control authority in midair and I honestly never got hung on the environment so I'd like to track that down if possible.

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-04T23:35:35Z

@jimbly Thank you, I'll put it on the todo list post jam

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-05T00:15:12Z

@sodaro Did you check the help page? backspace will reset the current level. If it's not working when you get eaten by a larger slime I'll definitely have to look into it. I'm glad you liked it :) @slashee-the-cow You can only eat slimes smaller than yourself. I need to add better feedback to let the player know when they died. FPS from Java's JME can be crazy high for simple games like this, and people say Java is slow!

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-05T00:26:11Z

@budark Thank you :)

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-05T21:25:36Z

@codekim I'm glad you liked it. Objective markers are definitely on my list of todo's. The physics based movement was purely because it was just faster to implement using dyn4j dynamics than roll my own movement, although I am working on a 2d sprite based system for JME that will allow easy binary or physics controls in the future

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-05T21:25:45Z

@c1fr1 Thank you. Making puzzles is hard but something I was trying to consider as I made levels. When I get around to updating this I will hopefully have figured out launch4j and will have easy executables for all major platforms.

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-05T21:26:03Z

@hempuli I need to add an in game tooltip telling players you can reset via backspace. That is entirely my fault as it seems several people have missed the instructions page. The random jumping I thought was cute but I understand it makes level5 a pain. I'll probably add a "slime jump timer" parameter where slimes can be given jump times or left on random.

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-05T21:26:15Z

@gwinnell JME is awesome! It needs more love. Thank you for your interest and I hope to get around to cleaning this project up!

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-06T21:28:38Z

@incobalt The friction should be the same all the time, I don't try to modify it at least. I also need to convey to players when they get eaten, and give a better learning curve that you can only eat smaller slimes. Thank you for the feedback and I hope to address these issues in the future!

Flaming Resistance by C1FR1 2018-12-05T21:39:09Z

The black fading in really raises the stakes. Game plays well, my only complaint is how slow the player is (maybe a sprint?) but it makes sense and balances fine. Nice job!

Purple Space by BudgieM2 2018-12-03T21:46:01Z

The game seemed interesting but it picked up my HOTAS and wouldn't rebind. Definitely add multiple forms of input even if joysticks are detected so it's playable via keyboard or mouse.

Sacrifices must be made by TasakaSama 2018-12-03T22:25:10Z

Interesting puzzler, pretty difficult to make some of the jumps. Re spawning was a good use of the theme but starts to grate on your patience after playing for a long time. The color choice is pleasing and I think deserves a mention.

End of mankind by jijaweb 2018-12-03T21:28:27Z

Your link is no longer broken! Game is very hard though, you should be able to block incoming projectiles while holding a sheep (it seems big enough to protect you)

Apollo by Sigton 2018-12-03T22:11:36Z

I really liked this! Galaga style flying game with actual physics. Obstacles should do way more damage, as it was I felt like a tank. The aggressive controls fit the theme nicely. Well done ;)

Rablat by Sodaro 2018-12-05T00:25:31Z

Interesting story, wasn't expecting the ending

A dangerous situation not to wear shoes in by wie_ 2018-12-03T21:25:36Z

All shop simulators get a +1 in my book. It was hard to tell how to interact with things at first, mostly just learning where to click.

Time Out by CodeKim 2018-12-05T21:34:24Z

I really liked the idea of time as ammo, made me think twice about shooting some robots. A few of the rooms were really hard to navigate to because the jumping had to be really precise. Very neat game!

OVERCHARGE by Jonas Tyroller 2018-12-05T00:01:22Z

Very lovely game, the overcharge suicide is unique and a really cool mechanic!

The Greater Evil by AndyGates01 2018-12-03T22:27:55Z

Easily the best death animation I've seen this competition!

LD45 — Start with nothing

Kobold Simulator by someone 2019-10-12T14:04:59Z

Pretty good start for building everything from scratch. The ai needs some work, it's odd they'd just let a kobold into the settlement. They also just chase you the entire way into your cave, but once you set down the object they wander about aimlessly. The models and animations are pretty good though.

One And All by burnedkirby 2019-10-12T00:42:27Z

The fish were cute, but the particles coming from the player were disorienting. The experience was interesting though and it stands out.

Sticky Fingers by ruthiepee 2019-10-14T00:14:59Z

Game ran fine and was fun the first round, after getting a score and starting another round the hand quit stealing things. The power bar reflected my mouse input, but the hand didn't launch when I released lmb. Other than the glitch it was a fine game.

RUST vs THE HIVE by Sol Roo 2019-10-12T01:18:34Z

Neat tank game, I like the variety of pickups. Primary weapons seemed very unbalanced, after trying a few I stopped using anything except the gatling gun.

Damned Souls - Raising Blood by homeworld 2019-10-09T20:36:06Z

Killing to fill rooms with blood to raise the level was a cool idea!

0 by blaster391 2019-10-09T23:00:03Z

I like the idea of gathering power balls to activate abilities. The very first one is completely confusing and making the ui always visible or having some text to explain it would be great. I also wasn't a fan of the player hitbox, was it a circle? I kept slipping off edges that seemed like I should have been solidly perched upon if it was a square. Other than that the concept was cool and I would like to see more unlockables in a game like this.

Spam Space To Exist by Wheffle 2019-10-12T00:47:56Z

Neat idea, I couldn't find more than 1 turret at a time which made killing anything a laborious process. I think it could have been more fun if you controlled the turret firing.

Tactical Bodybuilding by SuperTibbles 2019-10-12T01:12:45Z

Very interesting game. I found it very difficult to determine which body parts I could interact with and which I couldn't, and had an even harder time getting parts to stick to my body. It would benefit alot from fading "dead" parts and highlighting parts when they'll stick to your character. Other than that it was entertaining.

Garbage Shop by MRUniverse 2019-10-09T21:02:48Z

@wakobu Thanks, I agree it's abit empty, 48 hours is tough! @simon-parzer I didn't have time to get any progression, the original concept had you improving your alley but I ran outa time. I actually only added the game over condition about an hour before it was due!

Garbage Shop by MRUniverse 2019-10-10T00:31:01Z

@blaster391 Thanks for the feedback, the Itch page had a short description for the controls but I completely forgot to package a readme! @team-on I definitely wanted more variety in the character models, but time restraints meant simple meeples. @pincushion Thanks, I had originally planned to have more types of interactions (npc's selling to you, and npc's asking for a description and not the exact item) I even had a tag system for all of the items so npc's could build a description and multiple items would have satisfied them, but I didn't have time to flesh this out so it's largely not implemented.

Garbage Shop by MRUniverse 2019-10-12T00:37:55Z

@burnedkirby Thanks for spotting that bug! It is a bleak game, but so is the current situation here in a lot of US cities. I hope I was able to bring an interesting perspective without being to pessimistic.

Garbage Shop by MRUniverse 2019-10-12T12:22:45Z

@ketura Not rotating the inventory items was a design choice to force your pathetically small inventory to feel even smaller, though I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense. I also purposefully don't spawn enough people, it isn't fair (this game isn't meant to be) though I understand it can be frustrating. I am not sure what you are asking about the collision? If you are simply asking how I implemented the player hitbox, the relevant source is https://github.com/qs-dragon/GarbageShop/blob/master/src/main/java/com/unit/MobState.java , https://github.com/qs-dragon/GarbageShop/blob/master/src/main/java/com/scene/Scene.java and https://github.com/qs-dragon/GarbageShop/blob/master/src/main/java/com/scene/Collisions.java

Garbage Shop by MRUniverse 2019-10-12T12:24:43Z

@niborious I'd love to get a web build but most web browsers no longer support Java Applets. There are other ways to inbed Java but I am not familiar, definitely something I hope to figure out though! @jakemchugh1 Yes it is, thank you @solah I agree, some low-key music and sound effects of people going by / city noises would have been amazing. Sadly I did not have time. I was implementing mechanics pretty much till the very end.

Tardigrades on the Moon by bassguitarbill 2019-10-12T14:15:57Z

Tardigrades + moon = a play from me. Overall interesting game, took me a minute to fully grasp what to do but it was pretty easy after that. Had a glitch where it brought up the "Grow moss farms" dialogue twice, but that was the only glitch I noticed.

Cave by Team-on 2019-10-09T23:12:36Z

The art was pretty nice. I wasn't really sure what the objective was. Left click moving the character and camera was a little disorienting since it would move the frame of reference for any items you were attempting to interact with. The inventory and item interaction seemed functional, I'm not a fan of rapid clicking but the mentioned "rpg battle system" might be neat to see implemented to work with the other game mechanics.

Vegan Farmer by leorean 2019-10-09T21:11:23Z

Wow, this game is kinda gross, but in a good way!

Cavern Train Heist by microgravitydan 2019-10-09T23:40:42Z

Camera was very difficult to use and barrels were difficult to interact with. It was funny when I rushed the bad guy and he ran away from me.

Li'l Blue by duhbrain 2019-10-12T01:03:05Z

Pretty solid game, I completely missed the "Store" button for the first two levels! Maybe auto-entering store at the end of a wave since you basically always want to go to the store. It was still plenty fun though.

Cyber Tails by ChivaTateo 2019-10-13T15:19:17Z

Game is interesting, but could you please leave a link to the original version submitted for ld? Rules state you shouldn't add new features after submission, most people will have 2 links 1 for their updates and 1 with only necessary bug fixes

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Spelling Zombie Shooter by codemaster 2019-10-10T00:25:31Z

The concept is very intriguing, but the controls are not. The shotgun was more like a small bomb, and not being able to orient your avatar made any aiming mechanic invalid. It felt more like telling someone where to drive a car than moving a person. A spelling zombie shooter does sound like a fun concept though!
