Cool game you made, wish it had more color to it, but still a fun game to play

Cool game you made, wish it had more color to it, but still a fun game to play
Impressive to enter with your own game engine :) The gameplay is nice although a little "slow". Some colours would also do wonders. I really liked the technical detail that you can zoom all the way out with the mousewheel. More games should have this feature :)
I'm very much impressed by the engine : even if there are no textures, what is implemented works really well. The game concept is fun and fits the theme. As for the mechanics, I could grab a jar in the village and bring it to the cave. The villagers ran after me, but as soon as I placed the object in my home, they looked around and came back calmly (they probably accepted that the jar was at a far better place now :D).
And as a side note, I don't know how you managed the keymaps, but the directions worked out of the box without having to switch from azerty to qwerty on my side, which I have to do for 90% of the jam games. So for this point especially, thank you :)
Looks like those villagers like my cave) Untitled.png Gameplay quite raw, but really impressive for game engine. Can you share source of GE? I really want to look how others write stuff like that
Great game! It definitely needs a little more progression and/or content but it is great for what it is. The game engine is very cool too
The nasty nasty humans keep stealing their, ekhmm, my stuff from me! How rude!
I enjoyed it, although I wish I could jump. Some color would be nice as the black-and-white stuff screams more "I'm exsistential French cinema" than "I'm a crazy, kleptomaniac kobolt" ;)
Great work! It was funny to stole something from humans ))
Pretty good start for building everything from scratch. The ai needs some work, it's odd they'd just let a kobold into the settlement. They also just chase you the entire way into your cave, but once you set down the object they wander about aimlessly. The models and animations are pretty good though.
@mruniverse, There is a bug if you drop things too close to a boundary they can't be seen by the AI. They will retrieve any stolen items they see.
Even though the game didn't have a texture I found it very charming, I think the game was made by one person, but I see that she dedicated herself a lot to the work. I liked the game, despite the bugs the game is very fun
Cool idea, and impressive when you had to fight with your own engine the whole way. The AI is a little too good at stopping me, I was only able to get like 2 items to my cave and then they were too crowded at the gate to let me take anything else. If there was more than one way to leave their village that'd probably help a lot, especially if the AI janks out and crowds the other entrance. Nice job all in all though!
I think it has a good foundation but fortunately lacking a bit of "juice". Do you have plans to continue?
It is the first game I see without color, it is very original and I appreciate that ! It is a good game, interesting and the chara is cool ! Good work :D
I like the stealing concept. The audio is also somewhat enchanting. The AI kept taking the stuff back I stole unfortunately. I'm sure you're aware of this and the many other issues. But I do think this was an interesting shot at a compo.
It's amazing that you used a custom engine for the jam ! It was a bit difficult (the humans kept getting back their stuff) but still enjoyable :)
the humans are to clever for myself^^
Congratulations on writing an engine capable of this. I too have used a custom C++ game engine for LD in the past and know all too well fixing problems deep in the engine just to continue working on your entry. Take the knowledge you gained from this experience to improve it. Next time will be better.
I like the concept and what you have here. It was a bit annoying to finally get something by those grabby villagers only to have them walk all the way to my cave to take it back. How dare they?! Overall, you did a good job here. Congrats!
Kudos on the engine dude :) The game plays well, the character looks cool and very the ambience bgm is cool :)
Cool play on the theme. I really like the simple character designs and audio. Enjoyable gameplay and fun concept.
custom engine orz. shame that this ein't a COMPO entry, so good graphics
Nice work on the engine, having animations and shadow mapping in is neat. There's obviously additions to be made (there always is in engine development) but it'd be cool to see how it's progressed by next jam.
I'd be interested to know more about your engine stack, like which renderer you used, and whether it's ECS etc. :)
Really cool engine! Making the people chase after me was really fun, I couldn't figure out to place things in the cave without people taking it back though. It looks like a lot of work was put into this though!
10/10 cause bolds.
The atmosphere of the game is very good, what is the character? a lizard? I loved the gameplay and the super simple style!
Good job :D
Using own 3D engine is really extreme version of LD! I liked the game premise and the tone of the minimal dialogue. I would have liked the music and perhaps effects to more strongly feed the same mode. The main character animation was also really fun. There are some obvious areas of the game that would have been nice to have gotten more focus, but using your own engine, that's very understandable. Good job!
Though there isn't very much to do in the game, you've made a great framework in which it'll be easy to fit more ideas later on. When it comes to the idea of making "yet another C++ engine" though, do you have some specific goal that you wish to accomplish more efficiently than the existing solutions? Or is it just a training exercise to learn the low level rendering details? Because if it's the first case, I'd much rather see it as an open-source project, or as a contribution to some existing one :)
