Very polished, it took me awhile to realize I was getting slower the more little guys I saved. Then I accidentally shot a little guy, wasn't expecting that!

Incredibly polished! Lots of fun, and the graphics are incredibly cute as well.
Just gonna echo the comments so far. Some nice polish on here and it's easy to just enjoy and play. I'm bad at it but I won't blame the creator for my faults ;p
Cool intro, but maybe a bit slow. the game fits the theme and also runs pretty smooth. Congrats!
Got 88, yahoo! You think that during a literal apocalypse where the world is being ripped to shreds, randos would have better things to do than pace around Mario-style looking for people to hurt :P
Platforming is very tight, one of the better ones I've played so far during LD40. I don't know if it's intentional, but you're able to air-jump infinitely. While this is very cool mechanic (why aren't there more platformers that just let you fly?), you can run into issues where you jump faster than the level loads, haha.
Cool aesthetics as well! Did you compose the music? Really like it.
Nicely polished - I feel that's one of the hardest thing to do in Ludum Dare. The intro is also nice, most games just throw you in willy-nilly.
Nice and polished little game. Pretty fun to play for some minutes. The polish is really obvious in the gameplay as it plays so nice! It's all about the little details. The story and presentation are good too.
For some reason, on my computer the game crashes with a stack overflow error right after the introduction. Let me know if there is some specific data I can provide you with about this problem.
@exnihilo, you my provide me with the operating system you are running on and maybe the java version as well. Thanks.
Really impressive weather effects in this one. Added a lot to the mood, well done.
Well, it's a neat concept and a pretty dramatic setting, but I think the jumping/block collision is a bit too precise. Oftentimes just one mis-spaced jump would mean the end. And the player doesn't so much drown as have a severe water allergy.
I think it's a bit too unforgiving in a lot of ways that made it really hard to actually play well. But it's a decent concept and is very well presented. It just needs work.
Even though it consists mostly of rectangles, the graphics are used really well and look nice. Strongest part of this game is probably dramatic setting and constant danger. For this reason I feel like adjusting water level when player is too fast might be a good addition, as otherwise it becomes too relaxed when you're too high above the water.
Pros&cons: + Solid gameplay. + Really moody game. + Nice graphics - Second color of blocks blend with breakable blocks, so not that easy to notice. - At some ~30 kids captured I noticed that next level platforms don't render before you jump closer. - Gaps in platforms are a bit small (But making them more than 2 tiles wide would be too easy).
Got to 51. Like the bit of leeway the player is given when jumping into the gaps, although as mentioned, the gaps could have been a bit wider. Also the enemies could behave differently other than their speed of movement.
Simple, well made game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4a6KN4k75w
