I think this is one of my favourites so far. Really excellent mood with the darkness and the layout changing behind you. Really fits the theme but I'm biased because I also went with a dying cell phone in my game. I even managed to make it through to the end to get to hear the little jingle haha. Very cool game and felt complete which is hard to do in the time we had.
I really like the look and mood of this game. I think you did a great job with the train and the background and everything. Its a bit too hard though, I find I can only make 3 trips at most. The background track is pretty cool too but could use a bit of variation. Might be worth adding a few features and taking a quick balance pass after this is over with.
Had some trouble getting the second battery to stick but an interesting concept anyways. My main problem with the game is that the original Gameboy actually used 4 batteries :P JK!
I definitely wish the character moved a little faster but the combat controlled well enough. The level design was good and I really enjoyed the Gameboy graphic style. Could have really used a retro bg track though.
This is the funniest game I've played for sure. Spicy memes and button mashing, what more could I ask for? Seriously though great job.
Controls were a bit too slidey but the game was funny and the intro was really well done. I appreciated the checkpoints.
I couldn't really find much objective to the game but it was fun to just fly around collecting the boosts. It could have used a little bit of explanation on what to do. It was a nice environment though. Could be a decent start to something.
Very good use of the theme, its a clever idea I haven't seen done before. Music had a really rad drum beat too, it was a good track that fit the mood of the game. I had fun playing this for sure. The mini map is a really important feature for this game, really happy you implemented it.
It took me a couple minutes to figure out how to use the white guys properly but I managed to get the hang of it. Great atmosphere and VO.
Looked like Sim City but I didn't really have enough patience to figure out exactly how it worked. Cool idea though
I couldn't quite figure out how it was supposed to work but the artwork was really well done. Was good for a laugh at the very least.
Well I made it to the end. It seemed like the last couple floors were unfinished but really excellent on all fronts. The only thing that was frustrating was that I kept dropping the batteries, especially while going up the stairs. Best mood so far that I've played.
I spent 10k on fuel that was worse than the fuel before it but other than that I don't really have anything bad to say about this game. I actually had a ton of fun playing it!
I was never great at these kinds of puzzles but its nice that it seems like there is multiple ways to complete it. Sometimes when the puzzle would shuffle itself it would start out already solved but other than that it seemed to work nicely. Reminded me of final fantasy puzzles or something.
The polish on this game is real, damn. Art looked nice, screenshake was well done and UI was really retro looking. Hard as hell but these games always are. Great entry!
There was a lot of instructions to take in off the bat but it wasn't too bad to actually figure out. Great environment and the bg song was very catchy. Those poor animals...
Really well done take on the doctor Mario/Tetris genre. The bg track was really nice and the graphics fit the style well. Would have maybe liked a larger resolution but that's not too big of a deal. I couldn't figure out how to close the game without the task manager though lol
The gameplay gives me flashbacks to mashing buttons while playing Mario Party but it was very funny. Great presentation.
That was really interesting. I was terrible at it but it was pretty neat lol
Not the most original concept but it was a fun game nonetheless. Seems like a lot of work went into it, there is a lot of content!
Turns out I'm terrible at hitting two keys at once... Well done game for what it is though!
It took me a little while to figure out how to move around and stuff but it was really neat once I managed to sort it out. Really interesting idea, I think a lot of us game developers can appreciate using console commands to play a game lol
An interesting take on a classic puzzle. Not much to the game but its nicely put together. Cool ship designs.
Once I realized what BLU was supposed to mean I started to have a lot of fun lol. As far as typing games go this was a lot more fun than usual. Managing multiple houses at once got really frantic by the end. Exploding keys was a nice touch too. It seemed like it wasn't always registering my keys but I played on the web version so I wont hold that against the game. Great job!
Definitely one of the most visually appealing games I've tried, the visual polish is a step above most games. Solid shooter game that seems fully realized. Tough but I thought the balance was actually pretty fair. Wish there was a bg track but overall really fun.
Hey, this was a really well executed idea that fit well with the theme. The gameplay was maybe a bit too simple and repetitive but the movement of the characters and enemies was fun to watch. It wasn't overly hard either.
This was actually a really fun puzzle game for me. Challenging but completely doable and it was even presented really nicely. Really missing background music though.
Fun game for awhile, the mechanics all seemed to feel nice. The particle effects coming from the destroyed enemies looked cool. I was really missing music, a nice piano track like Gwyn's theme would have fit the mood and filled out the DS reference pretty nicely. It also would have been nice to see a bit of variety in the enemies but its Ludum Dare so what can you do. Overall great entry.
I was hoping somebody would take this type of interpretation of the theme lol
While it wasn't very challenging, it was a great experience nonetheless. Possibly the best audio of any game I have played so far. Had a nice look and a fantastic mood. Great work!
Wasn't really sure what was going on and it was a little bit frustrating needing to exit the game everytime I miss clicked a building. I also could never figure out how to deal with things like the plane and asteroids. Could have been a neat idea but it seems a little too unfinished.
Got the hang of the game pretty quick. There isn't a ton of variety but the enemies AI is really balanced, I think you hit the difficulty really nicely. The ability to use the num pad to aim was handy.
Its a shame you didn't have time to add an extra tower or something like that because it was a pretty fun take on the TD genre. I think it fit the theme surprisingly well because I was always feeling starved for power. Probably worth expanding on in the future.
The game was a bit simplistic but it was still effective. The bg track was great and created a nice mood. The visuals could have been improved but at least the level is randomly generated. Could have maybe been a bit harder but nice game anyways.
Made the mistake of using the teleport near the bottom of the screen but I'm happy to see I'm not the only one lol. Great mechanic with uncovering the map, would have maybe liked to see another mechanic implemented to spice things up. Well done regardless. Also would have been nice to have a restart button unless I missed it.
Pretty simple game but it seemed balanced pretty well. I finished with a highscore of 9 though I'm not sure if that's a good score or not haha. Managed to get into a pretty good rhythm by the end of it.
Really cool lighting effect here. Didn't even realize I had a flashlight for the first few rounds so I kept choosing night vision. I played the web version, it would have maybe been nice to have a visible curser. Fun game though.
I never seemed to get the hang of who not to bribe but it was a funny concept anyways. Good characters and hilarious audio!
Hey everyone, I really appreciate the kind words and criticisms. Lots of good ideas in there, I might try to implement some of them on my own when the contest is all over. I've decided to opt out of the humour category since there really isn't anything that was meant to be funny in the game.
For anybody having trouble with the controls just note that you can hit the direction you want to turn well in advance, you aren't meant to be timing the turns at the intersections. Thanks again!
Thanks man, I really appreciate all of the criticisms here and I figured such a thought out comment deserved a response.
First of all I agree with most of what you are saying here. Some of it are things I overlooked and some are things I just couldn't implement in time. I had intended to change a bunch of the map icons for example but just couldn't fit it in. The W stands for warehouse btw, it was basically just my placeholder art lol. One of my biggest regrets is not binding everything to keys, you are definitely right on that end.
I had also intended to give the game a backstory about a terrible delivery driver who couldn't even remember to charge his phone but wasn't able to get to it. Something to definitely think more about next time! Thanks again for all of the great feedback!
Hi everyone, I've updated the description to include an extra note about the controls of the car that should hopefully help anybody who was having trouble.
It took me awhile to realize I couldn't skip over 2 but it became a little easier to manage when I realized that. Hard on the brain but kind of fun.
Hey this one was pretty fun. I found that the timing of the shots of the enemies was a bit unfair sometimes though, usually when I jumped the first one I would land on the second one. Reminds me a lot of the old web games I used to play as a teen. Nice!
Great writing! It would have been nice to see some fancier visuals but I cant hold it against you. I always seemed to end up with a lot of money but not much of anything else. I had fun with it and it was something different so great job.
The game was pretty punishing in terms of difficulty. Idea is pretty funny though.
Would have liked to see more enemies instead of faster enemies on hard mode but decent game regardless.
Damn this game is great. Very funny but also a really clever idea. I found it to be a bit too punishing and I never found that going for the missiles or the flamethrower was worth it over the main gun. Really cool though!
Pretty simple mechanic but it was enjoyable to play for a while. It was hard to remember what each of the power ups did. Maybe having an icon or something instead of just a color change would have helped? Nice job regardless.
Neat environment but I didn't really come for a math quiz lol
I saw this on twitter before ratings were available so I've come back to rate it now. I still cant get over how funny those animations on the character are.
This was actually a really fun mechanic. No way to recover once things go chaotic but its fun trying to manage so many things at once.
This game has the best menu of any of the games that I've seen. Very good visual design and the game was pretty fun despite me being bad at it. One of the more polished games I've seen for sure.
Hey its cool to see another delivery game with a different approach. I have to agree with everyone else that its a bit too hard but I think we are all pretty much guilty of that. If the car could turn a little bit sharper and you were more lenient on time I think I could have a decent amount of fun with this one. A promising start for sure, I really like where you were going.
Not a big fan of infinite runners but the lighting effects working with the speed was pretty cool.
Frame rate was bad but the game was actually fun!
You did a really good job with the visuals and the atmosphere and everything. The game is very funny but it wasn't the most fun to play. If it was fun that would sort of take away from the message of it though so I'm a bit torn on that. Well executed nonetheless.
You managed to do a lot with the mood of the game, I agree that the lighting and bg music were great. It was a bit tough, I was struggling on the second level on easy mode. Maybe that's my bad though XD
Would have liked to see some sort of obstacles or something to spice up the gameplay.
Not a big fan of endless runners but the chairs were something new. I agree that it might have been better as an auto runner though.
Auto attacking mechanic was pretty cool, and the bosses with the dialog at the bottom was a nice touch. Wasn't really sure what all of the items were doing though.
Damn I really wish that even the bullets moved faster. I'm ok with how slow the ship turns honestly but the gun is too slow to be worth using. Its a shame though cause I think you have a really cool idea here. I did have some fun just spinning around and occasionally using the shield though. Its still a cool game.
This is the best interpretation of the theme that I've seen. Well done!
Your game had a great atmosphere, I don't think you needed to opt out of mood.
Its not the most original game if I'm being honest but that doesn't really matter. Very high level of polish visually and with the music. A lot of variety in the difficulties was great. It was also actually fun to play which is the most important thing.
This is a great take on the theme. Has a nice polish to it as well!
This was really well put together overall great job. The music transitions made all the difference, it made me look forward to going further.
Really impressive weather effects in this one. Added a lot to the mood, well done.
Simple, but satisfying and well polished. The combo counter was a nice touch. I also enjoyed the tunes.
I wish the timing on the jumping wasn't quite so punishing but other than that this was a fun and really clever game. I managed to finish it and I thought some of the puzzles were really well done. Great job on this.
That was novels worth of text. Hilarious but maybe slightly too long.
It was a neat idea but the level was a bit short. It could have used a couple more levels. Nice job.
It took me quite awhile to figure out what to do but I actually managed to get one of the gifts delivered as I ran out of time. Interesting game though a little confusing. I'm surprised that its also the first Christmas game I've come across.
10/10 for letting me sail off the edge of the map. ARR ME GOLD!
This was one of my favorite jam games so far without a doubt. The artwork particularly towards the end was awesome. Really impressive designs in the trees and rocks when they changed.
I wish there was a bit more to do but it had a nice polish to it and a catchy song.
Im glad you spent the time on level design, a lot of jam games miss that aspect completely and its really important in a game like this. Had fun playing it, great job.
Unfortunately I'm getting just a black screen with music.
Hi everyone, thanks for all of the kind words! We are pleased that the game reminds people of descent, that was a favorite of ours growing up. For those who find the movement speed too slow, did you happen to find the speed boost upgrade? It is actually available as the first pickup in the game if you find it. I think my biggest regret so far is that I should have had the upgraded speed as the default, and the speed upgrade would make you go very fast.
That's unfortunate that the cursor is not locked for everyone. It was intended to be but that's how it goes with these jams I guess! It also sounds like the lighting system isn't working for everyone, I didn't get a chance to test it on lower quality settings. For those interested in where the exit is, it is through the green door in the room that you start in. You will need to find the second weapon upgrade to open it. Thanks again to everyone who played our game!
I LIKE WHAT YOU GOT
Good choice in song, it fit the mood really well. Interesting take on the asteroids style game.
Very well put together city. It was fun to watch some of the car accidents. I also got rammed and my cab flipped on its back on one of my tries!
I want to rate audio for the use of the wilhelm scream but I guess I'll have to put those points into mood. Nice looking game, character design made me chuckle.
This was really different. I wish you had more levels because it was actually pretty fun. Good choice to alternate between the two styles.
For some reason this game reminded me of the ps4 game Abzu. The visuals together with the music gave your game a really surreal vibe. I enjoyed it a lot even if it wasn't fun per say.
I seriously have no idea what the hell was going on in this game but it was fascinating all the same. One of the most interesting games for mood that I have played so far. Very unsettling.
There was a lot of really great visual polish to this. Original idea as well.
There were definitely a few unfinished areas but overall it was pretty interesting. I wish there were more colour changes because that was a neat aspect. It was very jarring when it transitioned but I think that added to the effect.
Make Flint Michigan great again
This felt good and had a solid selection of levels which was nice. I wish there was a bit of variety in the colors between levels but that's a nit pick. Really enjoyed this one. Great job.
There was a lot of variety to the music. Did you make all of the tracks youself?
I really wish there was a border or fence or something to distinguish the boundary because I kept going for patches that were out of reach. Well done and good fit for the theme.
I didn't even realize what was happening in the first level and I still thought it was cool. I was even more impressed when I understood on level 2. Great game with a lot of polish, nice job.
Really great use of the theme. It was probably a bit too hard but that's true for almost everyone's game. Nice job.
The jumping didn't feel amazing but the post processes were hilarious. Great implementation of the theme!
This was actually hilarious. Me and my brother were literally laughing out loud for the entire boss fight. Well done.
Like most people I think the balancing was a bit harsh but interesting game regardless.
I wish that the music would change back to the softer part when there was no enemies but overall this game was awesome. The jewels looking like stars made for such a cool atmosphere. This was one of the funner games Ive played!
I cant say that I'm very good at the game but the level of polish is top notch. Well done, I think this will be in the top for graphics for sure!
Took me a little bit to fully understand the mechanics but I dig it. I play a few card games but I haven't seen that stacking mechanic before. Fun game.
This took me a little while to figure out what to do but it was neat once I got it. Art style fits the game pretty well. The music was decent but the sound effects were a tad repetitive, although thats true for most of these games. Overall well done.
Dude this is an awesome take on Pac-Man. I noticed Dannys trike right away. The polish is really great, especially the vignette zooming in when the ghosts get close. Could have used a bg track but nice work here!
