Loved the shooting too. Point defense ftw. Took me a while to get the controls and then i kept forgetting which end of the ship was forward :p Interesting.
You weren't kidding when you mentioned difficult controls! Getting my head around that some of the controls had to be toggled on and off while some didn't, as well as the thrust being in an odd location made playing this difficult, especially with the initial area being so tight. The fact that I kept needing to move my hands around the keyboard to play the space shooter part of the game made it pretty slow going.
I would suggest your movement controls be set up on WASD and no necessarily need to turn them on (just have using them expend energy) then you'd only have to worry about shields and shot for most of the game (besides upgrading the ship).
Other than that, the sound that was there was appropriate, and the graphics were good, though the glyphs on the ship were difficult to determine what they meant until you upgraded one and read the name from the event log.
Really enjoyed this! The way the controls are explained is really cool, especially the CTRL one! My fave tactic is building up a bit of speed then do the interstellar spin while shooting for the Death Pirouette
That was really interesting. I was terrible at it but it was pretty neat lol
Looks really fun, but I can't play :/ Can a man get a linux64bit version? All it takes is an export
I found the controls very awkward to use
I actually liked the required turning of the ship and difficult controls (we had a similar concept, my game also intentionally used awkward controls). The on-the-fly tutorial was a nice touch. Enjoyed it overall.
@zaygellard Unfortunately, I don't have a Linux machine to test it on right now. My LD37 Unity game wasn't working properly on Linux for some reason. Maybe, I can hack a web version
Steering was harder than killing the boss xD I just tumbled into a cave and then sprayed him and he died while he was off-screen. I didn't feel like my shields or "charge" were in jeopardy of depleting. Some boosters or additional feedback on the steering could help.
All and all, not bad. I'd like to see the general idea fleshed out more, more upgrades, more enemies, etc:)
Really nice take on the theme -- I felt mostly like I was running out of *mental* power! Hard a difficult time, though, and died quite often.
Very creative, and yes, difficult controls. XD I like the way it moves in space.
I found it really difficult to play and couldn't understand why you made it so difficult. I didn't see the use of power, and didn't understand how to use the TAB system. Sorry I gave up so quickly but it was frustratingly complicated.
The title and screenshot attracted me to the game but I failed about 10 times to even exit the hangar without getting destroyed by the asteroids which sort of drained my own power to keep trying. What was the purpose of enabling/disabling steering? I would probably have preferred a AWSD always on method to steer but maybe I'm missing some crucial point about the challenge of the game =)
Pretty difficult to play but there is great ideas ! I had fun on it !
@imphenzia You can disable ship systems (shields, steering and UI) to save charge, as they are constantly draining power, when enabled. You kept getting destroyed, because ship itself can't take any damage. Without shields enabled you die in one hit. WASD controls. Yeah, these would have been way better. Though, I intended it to be a physics-driven ship controls, so you had to compensate the speed of the ship, by applying force to one of the two directions. Plus, if you needed an emergency stop, you could press Space, and stop almost immediately, but take a big hit to your energy reserves About you not getting the challenge. Sort of. It was supposed to be a slower-paced shooter, where you carefully consider, which systems you need right now (i.e. you don't need shields, if you're flying through empty space with nothing to hit, you don't need steering, when you're ramming asteroids, etc), but I feel like it wasn't properly explained. Sorry, you didn't enjoy the game :(
I'm terrible at controlling the ship, but it was certainly interesting and entertaining. I liked the art style of the ship itself as well.
Nice game with cool ship mechanics. It was a little awkward to control, but the movement pretty good when you get used to it.
It is a really nice concept! I really enjoyed the shield and the gun system (all those particle are awesome to see fly). I felt the steering counter intuitive though (I always press the wrong direction, maybe it is just me).
It is a super nice and fun concept. Good job!
a bit too awkward for me but i like the concept
It's challenging alright, but I think it could be less challenging and a bit more fun to play :P The concept is awesome and very innovating! Good job!
adding a clear way to indicate the "forward direction" would have being super helpful :)
I had trouble understanding how to move without dying but I like games with wacky controls :)
Very challenging game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eXpztmcl_M
