LD39 — Running out of Power

Azrellian Asteroid Field by KunoNoOni 2017-08-03T06:36:33Z

Very nice entry. Several choices seem really well suited to the overall aesthetic. The art style, font, sounds, music, and voice clips were all great. I would say that the difficulty didn't seem to ramp fast enough for my tastes; too many power pickups made it pretty easy to chain several warps in a row without worrying too much about recovering power afterwards. Great job on this entry!

Energy Enigma by JCMonkey 2017-08-03T02:51:14Z

Got stuck a few levels in (see screenshot), had resistance at 49/49 but the level didn't complete (double checked the circuit, maybe I missed something though?). Fun concept, some sounds wouldn't hurt, nor a drag/drop interface (as in, once I've placed a piece on the grid, I'd like to move it to a new spot when I'm tweaking the solution to hit the exact resistance number).

Nice job overall!flow.png

On/Off by ThePelranthean 2017-08-03T03:20:59Z

Liked it, more challenging puzzles/levels would be nice. The camera clipping into the walls got a little annoying. Some audio would be nice, maybe a faint humming for when your robot is moving, and some audio cue that the level has been activated/deactivated.

Battery Block: Bypass by PietPtr 2017-08-02T14:44:02Z

Fun idea, setting up python was a hassle, could use a bit more depth. Overall decent.

LOW BATT by simonhutchinson 2017-08-03T03:13:55Z

This was really neat, and pretty unlike anything else I've played/rated this round. I would love maybe a more ambient chill track with some cooler (blues and greens, eg) colors. Great job!

Audio Hook (formerly Hook, Beat, & Keeper) by mrjoshuamclean 2017-08-03T03:33:11Z

Liked it, music mechanics are the best. It was a bit easy, maybe some different approach patterns for the pylons. Good job! (btw, wasn't working for me, maybe double check it).

The forgotten mission by stoffe 2017-08-01T06:48:24Z

Fun, thought the pirates were a little annoying to get past. No sound killed the immersion a bit. Nice entry!

Breathless Parks - Running, out of Power by gonutz 2017-08-03T03:52:32Z

Liked the art and the sounds, they really sold it. No replayability, but then this is a LD entry. Maybe making the race a bit longer with a different set of keys to rapidly tap to catch your breath or something? Anyway, nice job!

Intrepid by Arkthalohs 2017-08-01T06:23:49Z

I liked it, pacing was a bit slow. Hit a bug on my first play through when I ran out of power, presumably the game over screen, but was just an explosion effect and looped sound forever while showing me crisis cards.

Space Robot on a Space Ship by Apple Dash 2017-08-01T06:58:50Z

I actually liked the required turning of the ship and difficult controls (we had a similar concept, my game also intentionally used awkward controls). The on-the-fly tutorial was a nice touch. Enjoyed it overall.

Away Team by Joe Miller 2017-08-02T15:16:11Z

Great entry! Took me a couple tries to understand what I was doing (didn't fully read your tutorial, probably should have). Music provided that "driving focus" mood. One time I died when I had plenty of supplies but ran out of power while advancing an hour, probably should just auto-convert in that case. It would help minimize the clicking without really detracting from the overall game. Nice job!

All Systems Online by stormforce02 2017-08-03T06:57:03Z

Love the concept! As others have said, the start was a bit slow. A strafe ability wouldn't hurt. You could also add something to interfere with the strategy of just burning down enemy turrets right away. Even with hulls, it's kind of easy to essentially disable enemy ships within a few seconds. Overall, awesome job!

Micro Mayhem by Doccrazy 2017-08-02T14:59:44Z

Fun, took me a bit to get the controls. Great LD entry!

Power Earth Saver by wwwhizz 2017-08-01T07:28:58Z

Very cool, enjoyed it. The random motion of the enemies added a nice amount of tension given how slow the shots were, since you could usually kill them but sometimes at the last moment, they hop out of the way.

Don't Let the Light Go Out by BeamKirby 2017-08-03T03:06:28Z

This is a pretty decent entry. Sounds were decent, the graphics worked for the style. The speed of the guy plus the choice of control keys made controlling the player a bit awkward. Nice work!

Alien Swarm by oxrock 2017-08-03T03:43:09Z

Overall decent entry, aiming was a bit tricky since I kept wanting to stand at the top of the ramps and aim down and it didn't seem like the gun would point that way. Nice job.

The Power Factory by Swifttech 2017-08-03T07:35:09Z

Took me a bit to figure out what I was doing. Gameplay got a little monotonous. Maybe different kinds of events to disrupt your layout would help. Also, I think adding different parts to build with that have different functions would improve it quite a bit.

Nice work.

P3tr by zulubo 2017-08-02T14:50:10Z

Very nice, powering mechanic was fun, maybe make the enemies die a little quicker or give some areas a damage multiplier (like if you power up a defense station on the wall and then stand next to it you do more damage, idk). Overall great entry.

Light out by Harrelix 2017-08-01T06:43:35Z

The enemy sounds were nice and added to the mood. The enemies themselves didn't actually attack me it seemed, only ran up to me then away. Brief moment of panic when my flashlight ran out :)

Westwood Hills Hospital by Lawrence 2017-08-02T14:57:14Z

Cute little entry, too short though. The mood was great, I think mostly due to the audio. Nice job!

Run and Slash by Aycan 2017-08-03T07:20:19Z

Awesome entry, agree with everyone here about the vocal sound effects being great. Simple soundtrack was also a great choice. Enjoyed the graphics, felt like they suited the game well. I'd love to see more depth in the abilities, and maybe more pickups (other than just power refueling). Depending on how crazy you want to get, maybe even a different class or two.

Nice job!

MotherShip by rigdonware 2017-08-02T14:40:22Z

Overall fun game. I liked the music. Needed more enemy types. Nice job!

Spaceship Ferry Captain's Handbook, Chapter 12: What to Do in the Event You... by sketchycode 2017-08-01T05:16:02Z

Yeah, it's just the one level. I ran out of time, but had planned on introducing more obstacles, and possibly even enemy ships. Game balancing and ramping difficulty got chopped due to time, a mistake I plan to correct for the next compo. Thanks for the feedback!

The Last by Vija02 2017-08-01T06:32:25Z

Decent concept, movement felt off (how and when he'd turn, for example). Couldn't finish it, but was intrigued by the diary entries.

Planet Wars: Energy Crisis by zaygellard 2017-08-01T06:07:08Z

Fun game, agree with other comments about controls feeling a little off. Hookshot aiming probably would have been better with the mouse. Enjoyed it overall.

Dorgus Needs Power! by WillData 2017-08-03T07:06:51Z

Nice entry, pretty fun. Loved the controls, although the player could be slightly less floaty. The knockback effect of shooting was nice; I liked jumping above like 4-5 enemies and just shooting down to kill them and hold myself and the air, then just falling on all the batteries at once.

VamBot by ModalModule 2017-08-03T02:59:08Z

Nice job, liked your music. Gameplay could have used a bit more depth, maybe a different type of attacking robot. Also, I assumed your supposed to go right since you can't attack to the left, but the camera didn't seem to pan with me. Just something to think about. Anyways, grats on finishing your first LD!

The Will to Live (a game about willpower) by twainwright 2017-08-01T05:50:39Z

Same as rigdonware, I liked the premise, and was all set to see how far I could make it. Nice concept, but getting stuck on day 1 is a showstopper bug.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Ulti-MEME Sacrifice by LandoSystems 2018-12-05T04:47:26Z

Nice bullet hell entry, sacrifice theme ended up being a little weak since it didn't really feel like it mattered. Jokes were funny.

L.A.B. by disperse 2018-12-05T04:35:15Z

This is a really neat card game. It needs some balancing (although I feel you did a great job for the limited time frame). Nice job!

The Tearable Three by grandtheftmarmot 2018-12-05T03:59:49Z

I liked the idea, the controls felt a bit off, as did some of the physics. I was digging the music.

Nature is Harsh by hav24 2018-12-06T18:24:44Z

The controls were nice. I'd like a better way to pick things up since I kept accidentally throwing things. Puzzles were great, I could definitely see expanding this out quite a bit. Nice job!

Trolley Troubles by randomphantom 2018-12-06T18:34:32Z

This was great. It felt a little slow at times, but then the next moment you're frantically scrambling to figure out how to adjust to being on a "bad" path. The impacts with the various people/chickens/etc felt great, which sounds horrible to say. Loved the dark humor mixed with the timeless moral dilemma. Great job!

Gnome Man's Sky by Tim Ruswick 2018-12-06T19:52:01Z

Played this game far longer than I intended to, quite a bit of depth for a LD entry. I liked the art/animations, and the overall balance seemed pretty good. I kept feeling like the end-game was a bit grindy, but I think that may have just been my strategy. Great job on this!

Elemental Storm by BenBurgh 2018-12-07T06:02:11Z

More hand-drawn art! That was one of the better parts of the game, so replace the 3D models. I like the concept of de-powering a boss fight by taking down the different elements. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing more of this!

Try by JohnLee Cooper 2018-12-05T04:52:12Z

Interesting idea, but the levels weren't solvable most of the time.

The Cult of the Hungry Scrungus by dmtroy 2018-12-05T05:31:41Z

I liked the concept, and the fact that you doubly used the theme (basic concept of feeding acolytes to a monster, and the early acolytes dying to make the way safer for the rest). The controls felt off somehow, like tipping the floor took too long to change the direction of the balls. The music was decent, I would like to have heard some sound effects (or if there were some, I couldn't hear them). Nice job!

Missing Parts by radow 2018-12-05T05:03:08Z

Really cool, audio and puzzles were on point, found the click positioning to be a little finicky at times. Great game.

Trials of K'zhak by DrEvilBrain 2018-12-05T05:36:30Z

Great idea, the combat felt off like the swings didn't feel like they were connecting (even when they did). So maybe some sound effects wouldn't have hurt. I liked the overall vibe of the graphics and the music.

IMPerative by Pyrosshade 2018-12-06T19:48:16Z

Felt a bit unfinished, but I could definitely tell what you were going for. I liked how bouncy the tacos were when you hit them.

The Sacrificial Adventurer by Lexyvil 2018-12-07T06:05:32Z

Some of the controls felt rough, otherwise a decent entry. Theme was on point. Boulder were brutal sometimes.

Sanity Wars by JoshAnthony1990 2018-12-05T04:18:02Z

Fun platformer, I found it a bit difficult to control the character but that was probably just me.
