A cool little adventure. The mood is truly spooky. One thing that i didn't like very much is the motion blur. Anyways, good job!

xedithdev 2017-07-31 16:40

That was a fun game! It was a lot of fun and it had a GREAT atmosphere. Amazing job!

whatfruit 2017-07-31 16:43

I like some of the atmospheric touches like using the phone as a flashlight, the elevator looking beat up, and the blocked pathways. I think the first key could have been smaller/ harder to find. Over all great submission!

lawrence 2017-07-31 17:22

Thanks guys! Appreciate your comments.

duck-games 2017-07-31 19:22

Amazing Game! The atmosphere kept me on edge the whole time.

lawrence 2017-07-31 19:28

Thank you. Glad you liked it! :)

igorsgames 2017-07-31 19:40

Liked the sounds and atmosphere, except the phone, he is always holding it like a Pokemon catcher. After the battery is dead, it's bright enough, so just put it in the pocket and calm down :-)

wevel 2017-07-31 22:02

Love the art style to this game - the 2d sprite look works really well, its a shame that the story is so short but then it is ludum date. The sound fx where cool as well, really built up the atmosphere.

morphine 2017-07-31 22:51

Hey great job! really enjoyed this but man please take that motion blur away, it made me a little bit nauseous.

erebus 2017-07-31 23:52

I liked the game but please create a way to invert the mouse look ;o;

seanw 2017-08-01 04:09

Great game! Had me feeling a bit nervous at times lol. I wish it was a bit longer though! I noticed the geometry clipping through the walls at some points and the ceilings felt a little low.

lawrence 2017-08-01 08:38

Thanks for playing, everyone! Good observations

glimaleite 2017-08-01 18:04

I was really getting into the game, and then it finished! hahah, pretty short and there were a few things that annoyed me, one of them being the auto-scaling of text while they are being revealed.

I felt like I was inside that hospital, so you totally nailed on the mood. I didn't get to feel afraid, but I'm not sure if that was the intention.

Great job! Congrats!

ijona 2017-08-01 20:39

This combination of 3D environment and pixel-art looks nice and somewhat cozy, though the place we see in this game is dangerous. But why not? A good demo!

anudin 2017-08-01 20:51

The game seemed fairly unpolished as for example I could walk partly into walls, the key to "search" is gigantic and the overall feel. I liked the use of the audio and the building of tension - starting with a slightly cozy feeling with the rain sound and getting more creepy. There's lots of room to improve but after all that's what LD is all about (at least for me)! Anyways congratulation on finishing and good luck on your next entry :)

lawrence 2017-08-02 13:33

Thanks for playing!

rigdonware 2017-08-02 14:56

It was a great start and there's really something going there I would say! It was a little too short but the idea was great. It had me on edge as well. Not very much game play but I was just waiting for someone to pop out of the shadows. Haha. Great game!

sketchycode 2017-08-02 14:57

Cute little entry, too short though. The mood was great, I think mostly due to the audio. Nice job!

lawrence 2017-08-02 15:03

Sorry for it being so short, the time constraint hurt me this time.

I'll plan better next time!

praneet56 2017-08-02 16:33

Great game!! It was too short but it has potential to become a hit indie horror if the game is made on a larger scale. I really loved the art and audio! :)

lawrence 2017-08-02 16:57

Thanks, @praneet56! Comments like these keep me thinking about continuing developing this game.

bso 2017-08-02 17:16

Hello there... I hope your participation at LD was satisfactory...

Wow... awesome work... the game is too short but... I must admit that I was thinking about "now appear the moster behind, how can I defend me?" XD Jajajaja... congrats again!. I give you a good rating (even with that door's picture :v) jajajaja... and the movement fx that is... horrible... I don't like that... :D

Here is my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/runoutofenergy-the-game rating me please! :D

There my game link for Windows… enjoy https://www.dropbox.com/s/dpapwuoscuiu9eq/RunOutOfPower.zip?dl=0 for Compo

If you wish play my game without the Pink texture bug or with the fixed physics play the "3 days development Jam version" here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wqhljcqrqgjhq6v/RunOutOfPowerJamVersion.zip?dl=0

sarrixx 2017-08-02 17:27

This was a cool little walking sim experience. I was sort of hoping for a jump-scare at the end there :P The best thing about this game for me is the graphic style though, seriously good job with the art and the audio as well!

lawrence 2017-08-02 17:31

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

theonethatneverwas 2017-08-02 18:18

Very cool game! I love this kind of game and it really entertained me. The mood and the art style are really nice too and contributed a lot for the experience. Congratulations to the team!

lawrence 2017-08-02 19:03

EDIT: Ups, wrong window.

gonutz 2017-08-02 20:52

Unfortunately I cannot run this Windows 64 bit exe on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?

kungkras 2017-08-02 21:06

It's really cool how you managed to build an atmosphere with minimalistic methods.

lawrence 2017-08-02 21:09

@gonutz, will do!

EDIT: Added 32bit build in itch.io, named: "Westwood Hills Hospital_For_32bit_Windows.zip"(15 MB)

@kungkras, thank you!

I uploaded my gameplay of this game on youtube, you can find it here

Thanks for being part of the stream :)

thatsnillet 2017-08-05 12:24

The graphics and audio are well-made and feels professional. It isn't too innovative, but I still enjoyed the adventure. I think it could have been a bit longer, but otherwise you did a great job!

sarrixx 2017-08-06 04:25

I am doing a series of lets play videos of my favourite LD 39 games, and WestWood Hills Hospital was one of the games that made it into my last video. If you want to check it out heres a link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBa4diKzxqc&feature=youtu.be

gonutz 2017-08-06 17:18

Thank you for the 32 bit version, it works. Actually you could just replace the Windows version with it in the future as both 32 and 64 bit Windows versions will run the 32 bit executable.

These are my thoughts while playing the game in parallel.

I can put my phone through the wall, should probably be always in front :-)

Nice office that Dr. Bennet has there, very cosy :-)

The collision detection makes me shake when walking into Dr Bennet's desk.

How did the shelf get stuck in the ceiling?!

Hey, that was it, I did it. The nice police officer, whose voice sounds a lot like the developer's I assume, asked me how he could help me! And then? What actually happened after that I wonder. I guess your 48 hours were over :-)

This was a really nice game, respect for creating a 3D game for the compo, that is something that I would like to try in the future as well.

The graphics are nice and pixellated, I like this style. You manage to give the game a scary atmosphere, I was always expecting a jump scare around the next corner, very nice!

The "puzzles" were very basic, as were the details in the world, but that did not hurt the mood at all. I liked the setting in the rain and darkness.

Overall a very nice game, thank you very much and keep up the good work!

gonutz 2017-08-06 17:20

Just saw the gameplay video and realized that you write both "Bennett" and "Bennet" :-)

rootpew 2017-08-13 12:49

This is a great entry - again, another title which I thought was a Jam entry after downloading, but then saw it was compo when I returned to rate.

In terms of graphics and mood, this entry is particularly above the bar. Puzzles were a bit basic, but 48 hours is hardly sufficient time to make everything perfect.

Really solid LD. Excellent entry!
