Lost In Spb by BloodJohn 2017-07-31T16:25:58Z
Really fun, but a little too unforgiving - deaths are way too constant.
Artwork is stand-out excellent though!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → Users → RootPew

Really fun, but a little too unforgiving - deaths are way too constant.
Artwork is stand-out excellent though!
Really fun title! Loved that the planets actually had a gravity well attached to them - and could ensnare enemies :)
Great job, congrats on the entry!
Pretty cool mechanic, nice entry!
Really liked the shift from "infinite runner" to platformer. Artwork is very nice, and the music is great too. Not to mention, bonus points for having a WebGL platform available for those of us who are a little paranoid of running executables :D
two thumbs up from me, great entry!
No link appearing here either I'm afraid.. and this one looks fun :(
Will check back later on to see if a link appears! :D
Moves a little too slow, but mechanically it's an enjoyable game - the shift from turn-based movement to constant movement on enemy projectiles was a nice way to keep the gameplay fresh.
Great entry, congrats :)
One of my favourite entries so far.
The powers themselves are a little underpowered, though. Hitbox on Q is small, and the heat/laser vision is painful to try and aim with.
However, all things considered, this is one of the most fun games I've played this LD. Particularly loved all the work that went into the animations.
Great job!
This looks really good - and it definitely looks like it'd survive well if transitioned to a digital/multiplayer game. Great job :)
So, definitely big points for innovation, and mood.
Sim games are some of the most difficult to cram into the LD timeframe, so it's understandable that there are some issues - namely in difficulty balance.. but it could just be that I'm terrible :P
I'd really recommend refining this more post-jam. It's a great idea that's deserving of a longer dev period. I'd certainly support it receiving continued updates :)
Great work!
Wow, you shouldn't feeling let down by that. It's a really great entry.
Really charming artwork/graphics, mechanically solid, and great audio to boot. As many have said already, real cave story vibes going on.
Congrats on the entry - be proud!
This is really great! Took me a while to get the hang of the swing mechanic, but it's a really nice twist on the standard 'billiards' gameplay style.
Graphically it's pretty gorgeous, love the models, and the use of Unity's lighting engine in there. Controls are solid, and the audio is that nice mix of relaxing-yet-frantic :)
Great entry, congrats!
The only complaint I have is that this is the perfect type of game for exporting to WebGL.. so it would've been nice to have a browser version :)
Aside from that though, excellent job!
Online pvp during the compo timeframe.. yep, that's crazy impressive. But unfortunately, I couldn't find anyone to play with :(
Really fun take on the platformer/run-and-gun style. Graphics are clean, controls are solid. Shame there's no bgm or the likes - but that's only a small gripe over a pretty solid LD entry. Great job!
Graphically, this is way above the bar. Looks fantastic, and the mechanics are nice and clean.
It's a shame it's not exportable for web, as this would definitely make a nice little time-killer on kongregate.
Great entry :)
One of the strongest Jam entries on here. I'd almost recommend switching to learning an engine with better WebGL export abilities, because I think if you take this and add in a few weeks of development, you could well have an excellent title for portals such as Kongregate/Newgrounds.
Graphically excellent, audio is waaaay above the standard, and it's overall just plain fun to play.
Great entry :)
It's a great idea, but you hit the end of the progression so quickly - One my second shot, I landed awkwardly on the ground, and bounced miles into the sky. I was pretty much able to unlock everything besides the final fuel upgrade after that.
It's certainly innovative and fun, I just wish there was a bit more of it :)
Great job on the entry though - looking forward to seeing your next LD!
Good job! Only critique I'd have is your troop moves a little too slow, and it'd be nice to have some feedback for successful shots.
Other than that though, very well done to you. The models and textures are pretty decent, animations are a nice touch too.
This is a great entry!
Graphic assets are great, and the audio is a nice mix of fun/relaxing. The opening dialogue is also pretty humorous. My only gripe is that there doesn't seem to be an actual "fail" state - all the machines died on me, but the game continued on it's merry way :)
Other than that though, congrats - this is a well-made LD :)
Argh, this is another title which NEEDS a WebGL version!
It's a really well made puzzle game - with some charming visuals too. This is the type of game that portals such as kongregate/newgrounds were invented for; excellent timewasters during your office hours ;)
It's still a 5-star entry for me even without the WebGL output. Puzzle games are anything but easy to make in a short timeframe; and given the level of polish in here, I legitimately thought I was playing a Jam game until I re-checked the page before rating.
Great job - solid, solid entry :)
I think this is my highest rated entry so far on this LD.
Really impressive stuff - a nice mix of Factorio, with the inclusion of your own code parser mechanic :)
Pixel art is very well done too - up to the standard you'd expect from a full indie release.
Very well done - great entry!
Big points for mood/graphics, and use of theme.
I'll echo in with the above though, it's quite difficult to figure out what you're doing first time round :P
All things aside though, great entry!
Score: 470 :D
Good job, fun entry!
Oh, and web version runs without issue here!
Congrats, you're the first ever game I've rated on LD :D
It was fun, congrats! Clever "trail" effect with the displacement on the cubes behind your character. Minigame was fun too!
Only recommendation I'd give is to perhaps put a transparency shader on objects that have gone behind the player, as it can be a bit difficult to see what's going on :)
Well done, fun title!
Great use of simple shapes alongside Unity's lighting engine to create a very polished look and feel for your entry.
It's a little difficult to get to grips with (yep, I died during the tutorial.. twice), but it's a great entry nonetheless.
This is a really charming entry. Love the minimalism achieved with just using good lighting engine effects.
Congrats!
Wow, that's 5 stars for me.
There's a huge amount of complexity in this little building sim - more than what's usual for stuff you'd see on LD. My only major nitpick is in how slow the gameplay is - both in movement, and building. If it were sped up by about 2-3x, then I think you'd have an excellent game on your hands.
Congrats on the entry!
I am legitimately confused, but I had fun getting confused!
Great entry :)
Great entry! Gets a little too difficult after level 2, mind you :)
Good job!
Wow. You just made me feel pretty terrible about my own skills in art/music :D
Great entry, congrats!
Works fine here :)
So, it's a little too challenging - I thought the game was bugged when I spent a few seconds running from/shooting at a runner, and it just wasn't dropping dead. Some more firepower would've been nice to have!
Aside from that, pretty solid top-down shooter. Good use of the energy theme too - having your energy split between your weapon and your vehicle is a great touch.
Congrats, great entry!
Wow, that was a really excellent game. Loved the pixel art, and the mechanics are fluid & user-friendly. Fun cooldown abilities too!
Great entry!
Really fun selection of minigames :)
Seems to be a bit of a stretch to tie it to the theme - but it's still a great entry nonetheless.
Music in particular was charming, but it may be better to make the DDR-Style minigame follow the beat :)
Great entry, good job!
Pretty good entry! I do agree with the above though - .rar builds make me sad.. and I'm on OSX :( tarball or zip would be perfect!
Very pretty graphically, and solid mechanically. Good job!
Charming pixel art, but mechanically there are some issues. The jump was floaty, and controlling your momentum mid-air seems to be more of an argument with Unity's AddForce method than anything else ;)
Wish there was some way of seeing progression, or a score system - but aside from those nitpicks, this is a good entry. Looking forward to seeing more from you guys.
Very unique concept - but definitely aiming for an amount of complexity that would likely benefit from a longer development period than the Jam allows for :)
Definitely a very novel idea, and an excellent use of the theme. Great entry :)
That was really fun, good job!
The weapon variations are really fun to play around with. My only concern is that my grenades don't blow up boxes ;P
Hello Factorio :D
Congrats on getting a game with a good level of complexity completed within a short timeframe. Plays as well as expected, with some nice clear graphical assets in use.
Great entry, congrats!
Wow, that's some overtime done by the artists involved. Excellent visuals!
Great entry overall.
I'm a bit biased as I love Reigns, but I really had fun with this one. Good job :)
This is a great entry - again, another title which I thought was a Jam entry after downloading, but then saw it was compo when I returned to rate.
In terms of graphics and mood, this entry is particularly above the bar. Puzzles were a bit basic, but 48 hours is hardly sufficient time to make everything perfect.
Really solid LD. Excellent entry!
Page now working on itch.io :)
It's a little too easy to start off with - clicking mechanics are hard to get challenging, as hand-eye co-ordination is something a lot of gamers have plenty of ;) Aside from that, it's a good use of the theme, and a clever mechanic in wanting to allow the batteries to hit you, rather than clicking them.
Some charming programmer art, but I'd recommend against the squiggle background :)
Good entry, congrats!
Congrats on your first completed game :)
Music is good, and while it's not my personal cup of tea when it comes to humour, it's certainly got an audience that will enjoy it.
Great work, and see you next LD :)
Slick entry - very mechanically sound once you get a second or two with the controls. That, and a decent space-shooter always earns extra points in my book :)
Nice work!
Well, an instant 5 points for innovation. Didn't expect to see any voice recognition entries on here :)
I really like the graphical style. Reminds me of those "edutainment" games we had at school when I was a kid.
The Audio is also excellent, but lacking in having some nice bgm to go along with it.
Overall this is a great entry. Fantastic job guys :)
Visually, I think this is the most striking game I've played so far during this LD. In terms of Audio, it's also fantastic - very mellow beat, with cymbal crashes lining up with lightning strikes. The mood is just great.
Mechanically, there are some minor issues - jumping/flying often resets immediately unless you're either in the air, or at a stand-still. The camera is a little too delayed too, often causing me to lose track of where my player is. Also, possibly just a personal thing - but it looks like the parallax scrolling is going backwards ;)
All things considered though, this is a really solid entry. Well done!
The music is really, really grating. Remember, when in doubt: just write some low-pitch arpeggios. Maybe look into that for LD40 :)
Congrats on your entry, looking forward to seeing you for ld40!
Graphically excellent - loved the voxel style. Storyline was pretty funny too!
Gameplay is solid and fun, but I'll admit my first thought was "maybe get someone to arrest the guy holding a kid ransom for a bottle of Whiskey" ;P
Great job, and great entry :)
Good entry :)
Powerups are fun to play with, and movement is fluid. Could do with a little more variety, though. Other than that, solid LD :)
Very unique concept, and a really stellar art style to boot. Pretty difficult though - deaths are pretty frequent!
Great entry :)
Smashing through those cubes is hella fun, but some big lag spikes. Try switching off rigidbodies on objects which aren't within the player's view - especially on those big structures. It'll help a lot with that :)
Some of the prettiest graphics I've seen so far this ld :)
However, I'm a bit confused as to how to reach the birds on top of the power line :| I've found the closest I can do is kick myself off the side walls, and try to launch myself towards them.
Hey Rafael!
I did actually have plans for some extra stuff to make it more fun - cooldowns and the likes to clear the screen, or fire your chief of staff to gain some political power ;)
Unfortunately making the "art", audio, etc etc took up too much time on the last day, so I decided to leave it as it was before I created more bugs :D
I might update the version on kongregate with some of these additions once the compo ends, though!
Thanks for the comments all!
Just a quick response on some of the suggestions/feedback;
1) Special characters not being recognised on some setups - unfortunately, the only setup I had to work on was my Win10/QWERTY setup. OSX users, and users with QWERTZ keyboards have had troubles with the apostrophe. This is a pretty quick fix, but unfortunately, the deadline for the compo has passed.. so I'm guessing that updates past this point are not permissible. I may back up the original version as it is on kongregate now, and update the current kong version however :)
2) The Game is sort of designed to force you to fail before Day 100, although some people have hit above 140. It's meant to be a short/sweet experience.. unfortunately the exact opposite of the current presidency :P
3) Definitely room for way more features and progression in there - but as is the way with the ludum dare timeframes, many cuts had to be made :) However, I may look into further developing on it in the future!
Thanks again for all your comments and feedback! I'll be sure to check out any entries you've posted!
Hey all,
Thanks a million for all the comments & feedback!
As I found it was within the rules to do so, I pushed through an bugfix update which now skips any special characters (dashes, apostrophes etc).
A lot of the suggestions put forward were actually planned to go into the game - but unfortunately, 2 days (of which one was spent with a hangover) is not a great amount of time to get a game fully made, without making a few sacrifices along the way. You'll notice the bottom bar is completely empty - this was actually intended for for some "cooldown" functions, which would have made the game a bit easier. Functions such as firing your chief of staff (slow down words at a cost of political power), or a pepe blast; turning every word into a high power pepe for about 10 seconds to give you some breathing room.
Getting these built in wouldn't be too big an update - I'll likely write it up, post the updated version elsewhere (as to not interfere with compo voting), and then copy it across as the voting period ends.
Thanks again for all the feedback folks - it's made this LD well worth entering! :D
That's a fine infinite runner/driver there :) Particularly good work with the dynamic camera system when it comes to tunnels and the likes.
Great entry, congrats!
Oh, Donkey Kong barrels! :D
Fun game, but it might go well with a quick description regarding what to do - I spent a few rounds just clicking the barrels as soon as they appeared, thinking I had to collect them all.
Good job, and nice entry! :D
I'm getting errors every time I try to extract the contents of the zip - anyone else seeing this?
