fighting against something...can't tell

ash-duong 2017-08-01 09:20

The first part was so packed and the maneuverability of the ship was very limited. It was really hard.

This is a solid space shooter. I'm p jealous actually 'cause I made one a few months back and it's nowhere as good (I spent way longer than a weekend on it). Dang. I like your color choice, it's refreshing to fly a space ship in pinks and teals with pigs and fruit flying at me. Everything was really silly, in a good way. I was a little surprised that the game seems well balanced, but I think there needs to be better player feedback when the ship gets hits, like a SFX. Also, I thought your bananas were reppuukens at first.

Hello there ! Haaa the first feedbacks :) thank you all !

@alier-qiu : there is no shame fighting hemoroids, if I guess what you mean, it's a quite common health problem. Or maybe you're just pointing out the absence of meaning the game may have (because maybe it has a true deep meaning, who really knows).

@ash-duong : I'm wondering what do you mean by "so packed" ? too dense/confused or do you mean that first levels are a bit designed but the end is rushed ? Because that is somehow true :p

@xero560 : well you don't have to be jealous at all it's been some years that i try again and again to make some descent shooter (it's + or - really a "sequel"), but I think perfection can only be reached with repetition and this is still really much perfectible ! (and perfection seems unreachable to me btw) The color palette is taken from the NES palette, I think i'm a total dick with colors so thanks a lot this is flattering :] I'll take note for the player hit feedback, as usual I hope i'll have time to work on this !

Last point, I fixed some stuff yesterday : with crunch time I could not test everything, there was some small bugs with :

2nd boss Weapon system Music too loud (the *alarm* sound when powerless is really annoying i'll lower the volume too next time)

I also added some bonuses to make the game a bit easier and beat it by myself :p

Once again thanks a lot ! Cheers !

Wow - great job! I especially like that you have a nice difficulty curve here. In a few of your previous games I felt thrown into the deep end and had no time to learn how things worked, but not here. In this game I felt like you did it just right, with stuff I could handle easily, then it getting tougher and tougher until it was quite difficult. An example is the progression in weapon systems from the boss.

All around strong entry here with distinctive colorful art, a great variety of enemies, music, and sfx. It's a ton to get done in a compo, congrats.

I didn't defeat the green-spewing volcano boss though. I felt like I had a shot but and even when I got game over I played again from the beginning because I thought I had a shot. But I kept losing just because I didn't have enough energy... I was spamming out damage but my energy would not last long enough, and I never managed to grab any of the energy that shoots out the top during the fight. So I felt like it was sort of out of my hands and didn't restart again for another chance.

If would suggest one change it would be a little bit more feedback when I get hit. It was usually pretty clear, but not as strong a feeling as it could have been.

Impressive all around entry, great job.

Interesting shooter game, nice retro visual style.

tiberiusuciu 2017-08-11 06:42

The time required to play in order to finish is surprisingly longer than you'd expect for a 48 hour compo game. Great job on the art, everything is well detailed... maybe too much detailed x)

My tip for you is to try to make enemy bullets much more clear, often they would blend with the background making them invisible.

Otherwise, great job!!!!

Interesting style.... Very confused now :p

Well that's pretty... gross :P Got to the weird volcano before losing. Nice gamefeel with the screenshake, but hitting bosses & getting hit yourself could have used some more audio feedback. I wasn't sure how the power mechanic worked aside from making your weapons weaker towards the end - sometimes life ticked down with power, sometimes not. The drops seem really random too, the first level was super hard at first but my second try had way more powerups. Another weird thing is that you can mash space to shoot faster, not sure if that's a standard thing in shmups but I got fairly sick of doing that even though it was very effective :) The fact that the pigs follow you around was kind of annoying too. Still pretty fun overall, solid shmup with nice level design. Good work!

I am legitimately confused, but I had fun getting confused!

Great entry :)

Interesting idea. I like the ship movement and the funny pink enemies. Solid mechanics as well. Some things in this game were very weird. Also the music was too low.

valphera 2017-08-15 22:25

It's confusingly fun! Was doing stuff, didn't understood what exactly or why but still was fun doing it. So i'm a bit confused on my review too, it's great overall, it leaves me intruiged! The graphics are nice and i like your take of the theme!

huvaakoodia 2017-08-21 13:44

Solid shmup. The glitches really add to the home brew NES feel of it. I'm not sure the first boss needed to look like that. *Messy!*

The first three levels were very easy and then the Nuclear Plant boss just wiped the floor with my ship. I managed to destroy it on the third try, not taking a single hit as power had run out, in spite of the annoying warning sound. Then after 10 odd seconds the ship blew up anyways? Oh well.

Good work! I have a feeling you don't need me to tell you to keep at it.

omiya-games 2017-08-21 23:56

I see a lot of potential in the game, but the small bits of annoyances adds up to a rather unpleasant experience. For starts, I'm not entirely a fan of the game starting suddenly, especially when there's a 3 second countdown and enemies are filling the screen anyways. The sound effects are pretty repetitive, and could use variations. For example, it would have been nice to cycle through 4 different shooting sound effects instead of just 1 all the time. Taking hits doesn't quite have impact, and there's no death animation, so it felt weird to jump directly into the life count screen with seemingly no warning, and no way to tell what you did wrong.
