LD39 — Running out of Power

Precious Cargo by CMLSC 2017-08-03T12:30:23Z

The first thing that stands out to me is the pixel art graphics. They are very sharp. The art seems to be very deliberate and I like that. The particle effects like wind blowing to the sprite sheet animations like punch and jump are very clean and professional. This game is so well put together for the 48 game jam I'm blown away, just like my character kept doing half way through playing Precious Cargo. But for real it's an interesting concept and fits the theme perfectly. Cheers.

A Forlorn Wizard by Max Amaden 2017-08-01T15:37:59Z

Very well-rounded game. Good exposition (I really loved the pixel meets medieval font. If that was hand drawn, props to you sir). Besides the impressive sprite sheets and the cloth animations, I really enjoyed the actual dash attack. It's explosive particles and graphics really caught me off guard and reminded me so much of Hyper Light Drifter. The UI is very clear and easy to understand. Something not to be taken for granted in these 48 hour games. I found the gameplay fun while upholding a high degree of difficulty (what else would you expect from the darker plane of existence??). Anyway great incorporation of theme and best of luck to you.

Junk Drawer by Hammers 2017-07-31T20:18:37Z

It's a nice color scheme and good models. Especially all the remote buttons. I see that the focus was on the physics, but I couldn't get my mind off the humor of the whole thing. The fact that it was a game about replacing batteries, and that I played it for a solid 10 minutes means you're doing something right.

Escape from Power by Petzi 2017-07-31T18:46:53Z

Good game for two people. Also works for one. I was not expecting those red rings, it was fun trying to predict their positions.

Flip The Switch by madalaski 2017-08-01T19:21:57Z

Very novel game. I always love these machine / circuitry games. It gives the user the power to make functional creations that shine or in this case up the power output. The wiring and placement of items has a good UI to it. The system is interesting yet not too complicated, as I think any game should have some learning curve. Nice story at the beginning. Keep it up.

My Dream by Local Minimum 2017-08-04T16:45:03Z

Quite an interesting narrative piece. I like how you told the story in chunks, like the words were actually coming out of a person, not a machine. The battery icon is clear and makes sense. The story is interesting and really pulls you in, which is of course essential in a game like this. Nice job.

Robbery Bob by Yvanor 2017-07-31T21:08:38Z

So #RobBob was fantastic. Gonna guess that you're francais from the superpowers engine site, so bien fait. J'ecrivez plus si mon francais etait plus bon, et si j'ai sait certainment que tu est francais. Anyway...

I'm impressed with the scope of this project. There are a few big points I wanted to comment on, and those are scope, graphics, and story.

The scope is huge to incorporate multiple modes of gameplay, dialogue, cut-scenes, maps, etc. It makes the game feel very alive and fluid. You're not stuck staring at the same thing forever.

The graphics are simple and clean. The pixel art is funny and I also liked the little walking animations.

The story I think was my favorite part. From the funny dialogue to the tragedy that befell our beloved burglar, to the bittersweet conclusion. BTW the tree / developer not having enough time was sort of a meta incorporation of the theme.

There were other factors I didn't touch here but really overall well done. Very inspiring, and motivating as to what you can do in such little time. Again, well done.

Racing With Power by bestnickname 2017-08-02T20:09:04Z

I like the theme and back-story. The car is a fun little character and I really appreciate the jets that come out of the car. The color fade is really quite pretty. Nice game

Crownless by Galan 2017-08-04T18:57:46Z

I like the simple, flat art style. You kept with it and it works. The attention to detail is what helps sell it IMO. So much fun playing it, I nearly got in the proverbial 'zone' while refining my timing, etc. Great job.

Solar Defence by w1n5t0n 2017-08-02T20:04:43Z

Wow interesting direction with the theme. It's cool how the player's solar panel automatically directs itself towards the sun. Overall nice concept, and well executed. Max score 22 btw.

My Kingdom for a Rabbit! by incobalt 2017-08-02T14:56:38Z

I really like your interpretation of the theme. It's very unique (as far as I've seen). I took your advice and took notes, and at first picked a bad rabbit but was determined to do better the second time around and modified by note taking system. The names of the rabbits were great. All very believable yet humorous names. Music is fitting, and dialogue is awesome. Really makes me feel like royalty in a palace deciding on an heir. The whole thing feels very sound and sturdy, like it isn't going to crash on me, which is not always the case with these 48 hour games. Keep up the good work!

Wreckage by cogcomp 2017-07-31T19:11:22Z

Couldn't play it :( something along the lines of: openAL32.dll not found. Reinstalled and got same error.

Runner Out Of Power by Mathiouza 2017-08-02T14:11:20Z

Good game! Very engaging with the graphics and the audio. Having the music kind of die out when you lose a level, really makes me want to get back into it and keep hearing the song. I also loved the sound effect of a successful turn. Very cool effect with the pixelation and varying the values on the wires. I enjoyed the level select screen, it was so perfect for the game you were making. The wires with their color coding, and various turns that were indicative of the level you were about to play was a nice touch. Good job.

Running the Marathon by gamepopper 2017-08-01T21:54:03Z

The premise of this game makes me lol. Play a game about running a marathon that takes a nearly realistic amount of time. I thought about beating it just to say I could. Then I realized some other poor soul will probably give it a go eventually. Which... I might add would not be surprisng, the mechanics are sound, the graphics are clear. Excellent use of grayscale. Nice parallax. All in all well done :)

Expectations by thebmxeur 2017-08-01T20:41:46Z

First some feedback for this simple little text based adventure. Easy to play, interesting UI, strong mood. I like how clock and calendar mechanics work, they are very clean from a UI perspective.

I basically interpreted this game as sort of an internal dialogue within the mind of someone named J. M. S. I liked the feedback bar on the top, that kind of fluctuation with the ~ symbols.

Very cool how you decided to take a path less traveled. It helps pave the way for others. I enjoyed and found it inspiring. Thanks.

Island trouble by PiotrJ 2017-07-31T20:32:39Z

The color palette is nice, and even though most of the graphics are comprised of basic shapes, what I really like is the look of a productive island. Something about having everything wired up and powered is very satisfying. Makes me feel like I built something, like a well oiled machine that is working on its own. Anyway cheers and best of luck!

The King's Saviour by drtizzle 2017-07-31T20:01:12Z

Very enticing story. Made me hella motivated to save that King. Horse sprites are awesome as are the sound effects. I like how the 3d gives a feel of depth to the environment makes me think Zelda... Oh and music was very fitting for the theme.

Star Power by Simon Millard 2017-08-01T19:49:53Z

I keep getting surprised by these varied game genres. A turn based card game? The time to make all the cards? Very cool. Nice sound effects, clean UI. Nice physics. Solid core mechanic of the power/turn. Fits the theme well!

Defend Home: Mars by sgt3v 2017-08-01T19:58:20Z

Really felt like I was on Mars. Awesome job with the 3D. I like the system used on the power generators of lights. It looks like some real space tech. The ants kind of freaked me out, but I guess they were supposed to ;) all in all, good game!

Ousted by btwj 2017-08-01T19:35:35Z

I found the game to be very developed. Something between a text adventure (with graphics) and a political sim. I enjoyed the bits of story every week that made it feel real like these ministers are actually human. I love the little graphics of each minister especially MoI. Overall very nice interpretation of theme, and innovative game!

Hold Back the Night by dnp 2017-07-31T18:53:20Z

Game concept and theme are actually really cool. The idea of collecting fuel to sustain the light (before you run out of power) while at the same time gathering materials for upgrades works well. One suggestion is my game seemed to glitch out on my second run through so the player perma-runs in a direction. This carried through to the next play through. On a more positive note, the web player ran perfectly fine in Chrome for me, very accessible.

Demonic Powers by gilborn 2017-07-31T16:41:19Z

Awesome game, felt a little dirty for playing it. Had to play it 'till completion. I especially liked the skull graphics in the user interface ;)

Micro Mayhem by Doccrazy 2017-08-02T15:08:34Z

Damn this was a fun one. I like the way it fits the theme, and the music really revs me up to race more. Had to play until I finished first. I think that's a good sign in a game. Impressive 3d work for such a short time. Good easy to read UI. Very fun controls! Overall nice work

Blackout by 100th_Coin 2017-08-02T17:50:28Z

An endless dungeon crawler... That's a new one for me, I really like it though. And I'm very impressed with the variety and randomness of it all. The graphics are clean, and really effective in achieving that 2.5D look. Considering this was made in 2 days as a compo entry, I'm amazed. The UI is simple and everything works as expected. There is even items and inventory. It just feels very fleshed out. And like the idea of moving backwards in levels as you power down is new to me. It's kind of got a running out of time feel to it, and I think that suits the theme perfectly. Well done.

Olafshot by SirOlaf 2017-07-31T19:17:17Z

Nice minimalist shooter. Simple controls and classy color palette.

GLOW by abductedPlatypus 2017-08-18T20:50:55Z

Hey man, nice game. I liked the part where you run into the light orbs and it dings different notes. LIke putting composition into the hands of the user. Love the light effects. Especially the intro, and the little screws. Favorite part is the movement. It's just fun and it fits the character perfect. Like you could build up a whole world around that little spider dude as he floats and drifts from place to point. Good job.

LD39 - Runner Clone by LogFlames 2017-07-31T19:30:15Z

Got a score of 240 nbd. Liked the camera work on the intro and the sort of game-ception thing going on was quite innovative. Also the trails on the runner's arms were very cool /aesthetically pleasing. For the first LD including audio, I'd say pretty good. It felt like it had a good pacing that corresponded with the player's movement. Also something about the mini game was very fun to me and at the same time very difficult! Cheers.

Running out of Coffee by Triastase 2017-08-01T16:04:46Z

A few things I really like about it are the UI setup on right, and the concept. The vertical arrangement of the meters and color selection work well together. The concept of having to work work work, drink drink drink, is funny as hell to me. I found the game very, VERY challenging and wasn't able to beat it but haven't given up yet. Also props on going the 3d route. Nice models, and nice little meta egg of having the screen display game-dev stuff ;)

Mower Storms by dracominer 2017-08-01T15:16:05Z

Was not expecting turn-based strategy games in this jam, but I very much like this one. The hover over statistic display is a nice touch, makes it easy to understand what each piece is/does and how much health is remaining. Overall well put together with the cutscenes / music. I also took most of the attack animations for granted, those really add to the effect as well. Nice work!

Grimstation by mophs 2017-08-02T18:52:39Z

Nice work with the rendering. I like how certain objects like the panel by the ladder at the beginning are reflective on parts and matte on others, like it used to be shiney but has worn out over time. Would love to play more!

The Last Light by Loktor 2017-08-02T18:34:24Z

I love how different this game is. It fits the theme perfectly. I love the lighting and color palette. It brings out the main theme of light which connects to power quite readily. On another note, the arrows are fun to fire, and the mechanics of red / blue are like a fun/modern twist on space invaders. Very unique. Keep up the good work.

No Sorcerer's Sky by TheFlyingKeyboard 2017-08-01T17:59:31Z

This game did some things well, and others very well. In the latter, we have a great color palette both for the space station as well as the UI for the elements. I like how each serves their own purpose and it's kind of a race against the clock. One other thing it did very well was entice the user to keep playing. The losses left me feeling like there was more to explore, like I had to see what would happen if I got both shields activated or upgraded the solar panel. Sure enough, eventually I was able to upgrade the whole shebang, and like a previous poster said, exceed the 100% energy output. Some things it does well are audio, the music was really nice as with the SFX. The graphics for the objects like coal, diamonds, and crystals are great. And lastly it's well put together in the sense that you can play it over and over again until you figure out what's going on ;) Best of luck.

ROOP: The Ship in Danger by tomasara413 2017-08-04T18:47:27Z

Wow props on the full 3D work. At first I thought the lighting was buggy, then I realized it correlated to the amount of power I had. Then I realized the lighting mechanics were awesome and really fit the theme well. I like all of the interact-ables as well as the little Messages that pop up. They are very visible so it is pretty clear what to do (if you can find the right items that is). Great job.

MotherBoard by nikrt 2017-08-01T20:05:34Z

Very nice! Had a good laugh with some of those huge robots coming out with little snapchat icons on their chest. Hit them with the keys made me laugh too. Jokes aside, the graphics for this were awesome. It's got a cool backlit feel that helps emphasize the fact that you are in a phone fighting to save power. Awesome theme interpretation. A+

Battery Booster by Garett Cooper 2017-07-31T17:37:40Z

First off, I get that this didn't meet your end vision, however I think it is a very cool game as it stands. It is very challenging to race and collect the batteries. One thing I really liked is the mini map, makes the thing look polished and on par with other racing games. The music was actually good! Sad to admit though I never actually completed all 3 laps, I just abused the heck out of my boost. Anyway good luck!

A Robot's Final Stand by Demandooda 2017-07-31T19:42:52Z

Very innovative, having the 5 systems. The dang shield system wiped my power dry... Adds a layer of complexity to the traditional top-down shooter along the lines of resource conservation / management.

Deep Raider by kr4ft3r 2017-08-11T01:57:57Z

I can't rave enough about this. Shit had me geeking. I like how you gave these dimitri and dude characters such a rich personality. They really motivated me to keep on playing. Literally loled at almost everything coming in from dude, especially when he spilt the water lol. Gotta say I love the 3d graphics too. This game would be great in a VR environment. Nice job.

The Magical Substance: Coffee by FunkyHippo 2017-08-02T20:16:50Z

Let's just say my rating of your game is higher than the % I got playing The Magical Substance. It was really pleasing aesthetically. The pixel art is nice, as are the sprite sheets. The theme incorporation is both funny and logical. I love how the game feels very meta in its reflection of the LD jam. Cheers.

Pathfinder by Invixel 2017-07-31T16:32:28Z

Can't play! You need to package the Data folder with the .exe if using Unity

Blow Out by Cristi Mihai 2017-08-01T15:46:22Z

If I understood right this is your first time making animated sprites, then very impressive. If not, still very impressive. I know you opted out of the music category, but I wish you hadn't, the music was very nice. I think my favorite part was the red bull stats in the upper left. I watched them run out, as my speed declined. I felt like that was very representative of LD as a whole. As far as the house, it's nicely laid out, with good clean repeating textures. Also that red-head who went back and forth at the TV made me laugh. Cheers.

P3tr by zulubo 2017-08-02T18:27:11Z

Not sure where to start. The PBR, the camera work, or of course the lighting... The textures were super! The rust of the cog, the tile flooring, and Pet3rs suit thingee. So well done. Look I don't know what you did with the camera aside from giving us a side view of the action, but something about the tilting and the movement of it made it verrrry interesting to play and explore in. I love the power to illuminate bulbs. I know it's unnecessary at certain points but I do it anyway because it looks and sounds awesome. Also audio is good. Keep the spatula around for good luck. I didn't touch on everything here but those were the big things that stood out to me. Please keep up the good work.

Out of battery by Cam Cam 2017-08-01T20:47:27Z

Interesting concept. I love the way the yellow fairy things or whatever swarm around you. Reminds me of pic - man. The color palette is nice and the graphics are clean. Nice job.

D34TH by Falk Bruskeland 2017-08-01T20:19:47Z

Cool little sidescrolling shooter. Kind of like mario meets robocop. The shooting combat seemed impossible at first but eventually I found a little trick. I think that's a good sign in games, that they start out difficult, but then as you (the player) learns the ins outs, you get a greater appreciation for it. Anyway job well done!

Run and Slash by Aycan 2017-07-31T20:42:55Z

The sound effects made me laugh, everything from the eating to the attack sounds. I had fun balancing the cooldown. And I think the UI was my favorite part. Seeing the icons on the bottom with their respective cooldown reminded me a lot of some pretty famous RPGs. The art style was nice with a good color palette, and the camera work was really cool with the zoom in on the attack animations. The combat and mechanics were interesting as well. Very well done.

PowerGem Arena by Wizard.Exe 2017-08-03T18:21:53Z

Nice game! Solid UI and graphics. Also the html5 link is super easy to access and the controls are straightforward so +1 for accessibility.

MotherShip by rigdonware 2017-08-02T15:50:07Z

Very nice music, helps set the space theme (as if the starry sky wasn't enough...). For creating this in 2 days using a basic graphics library in C++, I'm very impressed. The hard difficulty was not kidding. I enjoyed it on Easy mode though. It's a fun resource balancing endeavor to manage your own power whilst powering up the generator. Also the twinkling animation at the end was a nice touch. Good job

Getting Darker by evanmhm 2017-08-06T17:20:09Z

Awesome job building up story at beginning and end. Clear UI and clean graphics make it a very fun play through. I enjoyed the shooting mechanic. The red diamond / scope beam plus the heat-up timer and audio, made it feel very interactive. Nice work!

Coldridge by Unodus 2017-08-02T18:42:23Z

Nice job with the graphics and audio. The work you did in one day is incredible. The glowing night vision light that follows the player is nice, and one graphical thing that really stuck out to me is the faint smear effect on the windows. The walk mechanic was definitely something else I haven't really seen before with the building of momentum, reminds me of a racing game. Props for the 2.5D effect.

Wayside : A world awaits you by TheCodeFactory 2017-07-31T17:05:07Z

I see you have taken some advice and draw the path the box takes before releasing the mouse. The fact that there are multiple tracks makes the audio great. It prevents fatigue. One thing about level difficulty is I found lvl 12 much harder than 25, but they were all pretty fun. Except for 12... haha jk. Nice color palette, soft and simple, doesn't strain the eyes. Subtle plants were a nice touch. And humorous quotes were so random it made me smile. Also the fact that it was so easy to play in browser and is mobile friendly is a definite +1

one last edit: Utilizing the power bar as a restart button is also great ui management especially for mobile.

Prison Escape by stephen321 2017-07-31T17:20:14Z

I gotta say it was fun, especially around level 3 when the pace picks up! Made it to wave 5 before giving out! Makes me wonder how many waves there are...

Batterime by Hadrien 2017-08-02T19:02:03Z

I love this actiony style of platformer. It's fast paced and the levels are short, yet hard. This may well fall under the tough-as-nails category. Level design is nice and incorporates the theme beautifully. Aesthetics are clean as well. Good job!

Lifeforce Deathrun by GanbareGamesKyle 2017-08-01T20:53:30Z

Not trying to brag, but got a pretty high score. I like how the longer you get into it, the harder the patterns become with the batteries. Interesting level design. I don't know if coincidence or intended, but it seemed like there were distinguishable chunks of the level. That made it somewhat easier for the player (myself) to digest. Like oh ok now we are heading into this section... Anyway nice colors. They remind me a lot of my game. Good sound loop and really nice sprites for the characters. Well done.

Solar Power Rush by TheMonax 2017-08-01T19:01:48Z

Reminds me of asteroids mixed with 1984. Nice to see an objective at the end as well, and nice overlay like it's a game within a game. Well done.

Torch Boy by FloBar 2017-08-01T16:18:29Z

Hey thanks for the feedback on my game! I really, really liked yours. It reminded me of a game I made a few weeks ago about a character with a glow around them in a dark cave. Check it out https://maftkd.itch.io/fools-gold . Enough self-promotion tho...

I really liked the charging action. The screen shake, the time slowing down, the glowing auro. It made me feel like I was some sort of hero shaking the earth beneath me. The graphics were good too. Reminded me a lot of the old super mario... Also nice font. The italic just goes with the power theme.

The AIs are fast and intense making the game really challenging (but fun!) and it fit the theme well. Great job!

Falling Down by helpcomputer 2017-07-31T19:05:13Z

Happy to report a reign of 181 days. Very cool political sim game. Enjoyed the panning and UI on the state level. It took me a bit to realize that each state had different priorities, I thought I was just to change them at random at first. One little glitch with the debate tactics. During the 2nd election, it keeps your old tactics checked, so if you check 2 new ones, you have 4 tactics selected. Other than that, very intriguing, and definitely gets some points for humor.

Powerless: Trump Teaches Typing by RootPew 2017-08-01T15:55:44Z

This game made me lol harder than any I'd played so far. I like how you interpreted the theme, it made for a more unique game. Also the challenge of typing I think is very fitting for the LD audience. Having a web platform made it really easy to play. Clear, yet funny graphics. Overall well done!

Bots Forest by Dino_jr 2017-08-02T20:01:40Z

Props to the 3d world you created. It's massive. I love the feeling of being able to explore virtual spaces like this. The shooting mechanic as well as max kill statistics work as expected. Nice job with the walk cycles and other animations. Well done.

VamBot by ModalModule 2017-08-03T18:25:53Z

Thanks for packaging in an easy-to-run exe. I enjoyed the audio, both the music and the slash. That tied in with the animation, made for a very fun mechanic. Keep up the good work!

Ravine Rescue by quin 2017-08-01T20:28:55Z

Those girls seemed very young to be flying a space ship ;) Anyway nice job. Fun to play with the physics, and nice explosion animation.

Cities by litill 2017-08-02T18:09:48Z

Been looking for a unique game like this. This is different and special and fits nicely in with the theme. Good job.

Comms by Biocrust 2017-08-12T02:03:51Z

Part of me is angry with you for the jolt of adrenaline I receive, but I know it was my decision to get into it in the first place. So I'm really happy this is made in Unity. It shows that beautiful graphics and lighting can be achieved in such a short time using this awesome software. BTW, would love to know how you produced those long lights like fluorescent tube lights. So far I've only been able to produce single point lights...

Anyway, the part that really started to get to me was the footsteps that weren't mine. The spooky ambient sounds helped as well as the whole blinking radar thing. These plus the crisp graphics really helped put me in the perfect place to get a good scare. Great job!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Potentially Psychoactive Pufferfish by HawkSandwich 2017-12-04T18:45:02Z

Very interesting concepts. Will have to learn more about these pufferfish. There are definitely some nicely put together models here. The pufferfish are actually quite cute along with the hyper balls. The main character is creepy as hell, like he's some kind of fish person that is simultaneously getting poisoned, and is tripping his face off. Nice work with the physics and herd behavior of the hyper balls. Good job.

Laws Of Attraction by SelfTitled 2017-12-05T15:40:38Z

Took me 45 minutes to beat the game. I think it's impressive that you can make a game in < 48 hours, that takes the user almost an hour to beat. Some of those levels were grueling especially towards the end. I actually didn't realize until halfway through that you no longer attract the orange particles when you are drained of energy. It clicked when I thought "I'm one of them now" pretending I was a spy among the orange particles was fun. Great job!

Walk in the Park by kraftkar 2017-12-04T23:29:41Z

This is more than a dog-walking sim. It's a skateboarding-dog-walking sim. And I love the cover art. Very clean and attractive palette, with some nice LP models. That leash has quite a bit of lee-way. The levels are challenging, and the theme is fitting. There are some humorous notes in there as well especially with the different quirks the dogs carry. Nice job.

Temples of Purgatory by Gulyasarni66 2017-12-04T18:27:28Z

I was tempted to do a let's play tutorial because there are some hidden secrets to beating this. That's all I'll say about that.

Now about the game itself. The mechanics are basically trivial compared to the graphical features. You used a "new-school" engine to replicate an "old-school" raytracer effect. I'm not sure if you built this "meta-engine" for this game only or if you've used it in the past but I love it.

Enough fanboi over the engine tech. The graphics are a beaut. The color palette is perfect for the setting, and really helps distinguish different areas. The pixel art is spooky, as it should be. It's very easy to get lost in this world, and I think in that sense, it's a very successful game.

Lastly is the audio. The subtle entrance of music at certain cues is perfectly timed and well fitting for the mysterious air. One of the coolest features of the audio, aside from the various location soundtracks, is the effects observed near the diamond tower in the center. For the player who has not yet come across the green key, this place wraps itself in many layers of mystery.

Honestly I put in about 40 minutes to this game. Some of the time was frustrating, but hey, would definitely recommend to someone looking for a challenging adventure game with a retro vibe. Great job!

Triage Towers by juxipolo 2017-12-07T00:06:48Z

Wow. This is a very well done well organized simulation game. The tutorials are nice, the UI makes sense and is easy to use. It's very intricate. There are details all over the place from graphical details in the rooms to technical details about the patients. Really impressed, especially given the 48 hour time limit. Awesome game!

Color Bound by Charles Cox 2017-12-05T21:59:49Z

Nice job. There's a lot going on, but the graphics are crisp. Web player works great. Nice job!

The Harsh Life of Terry the Homeless Dude by lautregars 2017-12-07T01:21:36Z

Nice name for the game. I made a game called homeless hero earlier this year. You can check it out here http://www.homelesshero.byethost18.com/?i=1

You go on about the pixel art and the audio, but really I think the pixel art is very good. It's got this lo-fi style about it, with a trashy street slant. I gotta be honest and say I didn't get too deep into the gameplay, but from what I did experience, there's a lot of life to it. Good job.

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-07T00:29:11Z

This is really well put together. The perspective on the conveyer belts to the green refresh bar on the upgrade machine show you paid good attention to detail. It's a fun little pattern matching industrial sim. game. I enjoyed it, and definitely felt the challenge of having too many ores

Infection by Daniel Conway 2017-12-06T23:44:47Z

I think this is a neat top down zombie shooter. It's conveniently packed for browser and the controls are pretty simple (at least for a gamer). I like how far you were able to go with the art considering the time constraints. The camera work is a very nice as well. Good job.

Get Wasted! by Newton 2017-12-05T21:21:04Z

Very funny. The progression of getting drunk is really great how it starts really subtle, but by the end there is no hiding it. I think when I noticed the meter get blurry is when I geeked. Thanks for making this. Not sure you how you did this graphically, but the post-process / drunk effect is very nice. Great job.

Soup's On! by marekkpie 2017-12-05T14:48:24Z

I enjoyed this game thoroughly. I like the unique approach and interesting theme. Thinking about those spices got my mouth watering lol. But it was a very innovative concept. Timing the three flavors to the customers liking. Quite realistic how they fade over time.

Overall the game was structured and organized nicely. Clean UIs, intuitive flow, and thorough tutorial. Nice game!

Scissor Lift by Jakub Panek 2017-12-04T16:00:25Z

Nice job. The game is well organized, and a very interesting concept. The sound of the lift going up and down was very cool how it varied based on the height. The cover graphic is simple and elegant. Gameplay was about thirty odd minutes for me, which is very solid. Keep it Up!

Guardian Angel by Raven 2017-12-11T21:26:05Z

Nice little game indeed. Very good motivational story. I attempted a story at the intro of my LD39 "The Wiz" but did it through vague imagery and people had no idea what was going on and lacked motivation. With yours the motivation is clear, and hey programmer art is par for the course here in LD. I'd say great job. Keep up the good work.

Webshop Live CMS by leffe108 2017-12-04T16:40:46Z

What he said ^. Concept of luring in customers with cat pics is very funny. The GUI design is great. When I hit the refresh button hoping to restart, I was delighted to see it worked the way I expected. Drag and drop is smooth, etc. Nice job.

Friends.OS by Rob White 2017-12-04T23:45:53Z

I love it. Could definitely see this ranking in the top 10s. The graphics are quirky, and hilarious. You know there's going to be laughs with a game like Friends.OS. I also love the subtle theme that our main character is actually in some sort of satanic pact. The selfie cam is like a mirror into another dimension revealing the devils numbers on the wall. I actually thought that was very cool technically speaking.

Well done.

The more you have, the worse it is by hypp 2017-12-05T22:23:56Z

This is very funny. Alcohol is a perfect fit for the theme. Good job with implementing a 3D game in a browser friendly format. I love it when I can play a game in browser. Cheers!

Usagi Story by hatchet 2017-12-05T00:10:32Z

This game is easy to play in browser, and easy to understand. Both convient and accessible. I like the sprite sheets for our bunny protagonist. The ending made me laugh I don't know why but when the crow says caw, it make me geek. I think it's how they come out of the darkness in a veil of mystery. Anyway a very good game with simple and solid mechanics. The built in instructions are all it takes. The rest is intuitive. I know I'm rambling here, but I think you really have a little gem here. Good job!

Do You Mind If My Buddy Joins the Band? by Brandon Anderson 2017-12-04T17:36:31Z

Even if this is your first LD, it is clear that you have some experience doing game dev. The pixel art is awesome. I love how the different guitarists have different skins, different guitars, "jams," and "nailed it riffs" as you mention. The variety is very interesting, and like I said the art style is very clean. The animations are awesome. There's no doubt those lil' guitarists are jamming.

The music is just as interesting as the pixel art. Knowing that you composed the guitar parts adds to the effect even more. I wanted to try to go all the way from A to Z, but from your above comment it appears you can only have eight members join. Very interesting idea, highly inspired and very creative. Cheers!

Solaris by Villfuk02 2017-12-04T16:29:05Z

Great graphics. I love the luminous quality to the stars. This game has both exploitative qualities in searching for stars, as well as action features when dodging the red stars. I gotta say, my highest score doesn't quite compare to yours, but I had a lot of fun playing. Definitely put me in a relaxed mood (at least until one of those red stars came along). Nicely done.

Solaris by Villfuk02 2017-12-04T17:21:13Z

@Villfuk02 Yes, it was a very interesting process at first to learn about the function of the green stars. Very nice mechanic. While I'm at it, I'd like to add that the particle systems are great, aesthetically, and in the case of the green star they serve a great purpose of being a subtle indicator of their location.

Smack`Em! by mess110 2017-12-04T17:19:09Z

Hey it's a simple concept and very well executed for the platform of choice. Ran perfectly fine in my browser. Definitely provides a good challenge. Well done!

Vault Loot by ghostlygurustudios 2017-12-11T21:17:47Z

For a non-programmer, this is a very nice, well-built game. Heck, even if you were a programmer, this is a very nice little game. Conceptually it suits the theme beautifully. You can imagine a thief stuffing one too many gold bars in his jacket and getting busted. Collision detection seemed pretty solid. But I'd say for sure the most interesting / beautiful facet is the art. The simple pixel style with clean sprite sheets are a really nice feature to see here. Good job.

Senbir by CliffracerX 2018-08-13T20:19:41Z

I am embaressed to say that as a computer engineer I was unable to illuminate the first pixel. It's a very robust system here. You've essentially created a computer within a computer. I usually try not to be too hard on games made in a 48 hour period, but I really wanted this one to work. That said I had trouble with the following:

-Some arguments were accepted as decimal, while others are read as binary. I never bothered with hex. Perhaps the counting system (base2,10,or 16) could be made more clear. (i.e SET 0 3 255 will actually compile to 01110xxxxxxxxxx25500000000000 or something to that effect.) I would also like to note that this contrasts with the documentation which reads that a set command should compile to 01111 in the first 5 bits. -For the second tutorial I was trying SETDATA 0 3 1048576 (which is decimal for 01000000.... which should mean color White, at (0,0) and the 0 fill the rest) It compiles to something unexpected and does not function.

At this point I stopped tinkering, and would like to take a step to just appreciate all that is good here. -The fact that there is documentation is cool and very realistic. -The flow of the game is good with instructions and hints along the way. -The potential for creativity is here. Players can use the game to develop games of their own in theory. This I like a lot and find quite inspirational.

Keep up the good work. Curiosity is key, and I can only imagine all the knowledge you'll accumulate from working on a project like this.

Senbir by CliffracerX 2018-08-14T13:58:10Z

@cliffracerx Thanks for the clarification. I totally get it now. Thanks for explaining.

Test Subject 42 by nihilaleph 2018-08-15T00:24:32Z

Very interesting. Vibes along the lines of Portal and Statik. The premise is kind of funny. The mechanics are simple but work well. Quite impressive.

Stax of the Dead by loveapplegames 2018-08-25T01:43:37Z

Very nicely done. Love how clean the art style is and how easy it is to pick up. Plus there's the convenience factor of it being html5. Could totally see this being a nice game on like addictinggames that you'd try to play in secret while the teachers aren't looking lol.

Knight's Crush by Zaphire 2018-09-02T14:29:02Z

Cool game. I like how it the jumping mechanics developed from the memory game. Props for getting a 3rd person controller in there. Those have always given me trouble.

S.P.A.C.E. Module Collectors by AdroitConceptions 2018-08-13T19:11:08Z

Hey props on procedural generation! It reminds me of that old atari game Adventure but 3d. Finding keys and defeating enemies. Nice walk/run cycle and awesome job with the projectile/particle system. Very well put together with a solid win and lose condition. Nice job.

SuperTHICC by huskitch 2018-08-15T00:07:04Z

I thought superhot had an amazing art style, and I think you pulled it off rather well. I like the shaders on the enemies. The projectiles being soda cans is pretty freakin cool. To implement the time speeding and slowing is a cool feature under the hood. Well done.

Stack Master by Filipe da costa lopes 2018-09-02T14:38:07Z

The tune shaded character is cool. This is pretty robust for a weekend game jam. The concept itself is interesting. Makes you think what would tetris be like if there were little dudes on the bottom setting up the pieces just right. Game progression is nice, how you aren't overwhelmed with TNT at the start but this picks up as you get further into it. Nice game!

Hilbert's Hotel by player2point0 2018-09-02T15:03:10Z

This one is a winner in my book. Kept my eyes glued to the screen. I love how you can go your own pace to set up, and you choose when to let one of those shoeless bastards in and the timer starts. It is what makes this such an interesting spin on the wood block puzzle.

PS. I read most of lines like hardcoding is the best lol. It is really nice to have a web build too. Super easy to get into. Thanks for making this!

AEKI Wares by grizeldi 2018-08-13T19:29:40Z

This one is pretty cool. Unfortunately I have no friends on hand to play with but I get strong overcooked vibes. There's always this sense of time passing with the moving conveyor belts. It took me a second to get the flow of packing and shipping, but at the end its a very nice well put together game. Much fun.

Pre Alpha Build by PlusMinus 2018-08-15T13:59:38Z

Nice User Interface. It's quite easy on the eyes. Art and sound play well together. Keep up the good work!

Miss Eyesore by Filip Bergkvist 2018-08-15T16:56:03Z

My first reaction was to Alt+f4, then I remembered i was running html5 version and had to reload history. Effective mood and atmosphere. That's cool that you all recorded your own audio for this. Unfortunately I will not be playing anymore until the adrenoline is flushed out of my system. Thank you very much. But for real great job with this game :)

NanoMaze by drnoir 2018-08-15T22:10:29Z

Very nice. Developing AI in such a short time is no joke. Combine that with the physics and rendering that go into completing a 3d game. It all works very well together. it's tight. As long as you don't jump @rustycrow

@rexpeppers Yo dog I heard you like mazes. Check out Firewood Manor.

Galaxy Adventure, An Adventure In Spaaaaaace! by Cody Foster 2018-08-25T01:48:02Z

I like the approach to the theme. Running out of space taken literally. I wanted to do something like this but I digress... The text tells quite an interesting tale, and the game is pretty consistent graphically. I like the space ship model in blender. Will have to give a try on mobile at some point b/c it looks perfect for shipping to mobile.

OVERLOADED by rainysolar 2018-08-13T03:04:03Z

This is actually a pretty special one. I wish you could filter for games like these, with web builds and simple click to play buttons.

The art here is consistent and clear. It gets right to the point. The sounds are wonderful. No popping or earsplitting decibel levels.

My favorite thing is how its funny cuz its real. At my uni it was the same deal. Packed buses suck. You always kinda needed someone to push the people away from the main doors. Awesome game.

Pocket Pets by RustyMonky 2018-08-15T15:21:31Z

I think there is a lot of potential in a game like this. Just look at Tomagachi.

The angle that you took to that tried and true concept to incorperate the theme is both funny and an interesting game mechanic.

My favorite thing tho is the little pet characters. They really feel like they have life to them. Their expressions are quite amusing. Nice game!

Space Adyssey by Engyne 2018-08-13T19:20:43Z

This is a funny one. I like how it pokes fun at modern mobile development. Interesting take on the theme as running out of space by an adpocolypse. Points for creativity (and art and dev obviously :)

Insanity by NightmaresDev 2018-08-13T20:45:47Z

I like the look and feel, it reminds me of that Unity sample project with the zombie bunnies. The realtime lighting is nothing short of impressive. The theme is something deep and an interesting interpretation of the given inspiration. Moving around is quite fun from the top down perspective. It looks rather complete and of high quality. Cheers.

Wizard Collapse by Nozgart 2018-08-15T00:16:14Z

Did you all model, texture, and animate? I like how the attack looks like zenyatta from overwatch, but I digress. I really like the puddle mechanic and how it adds a layer of complexity to an already fun game. I don't know how you all get near 300, but I can see this requiring a good bit of strategy. Nice job.

Electric Sleep by uncannyvalley 2018-08-14T23:55:24Z

I'm leaving this review right now while I'm having feelings about this. I wrote a game, my first game on itch called Hack Attack where you have to hack into ip addresses and crack passwords.

This uses a similar medium of storytelling, but actually tells a story, and conveys feeling. The philosophy hits you from the start, with some of the dialogue by the dying android. Then the levels just pile up as you access the memories.

Got a loss my first playthrough but still got a lot of value out of it. Going back in for round 2. Wish me luck.

The Junk's Games by Paulo Augusto 2018-08-14T23:43:29Z

Nice game. Feels like a proper troll video game. The kind you would trick your friends into playing at school. Me and my friends would play Spank the monkey. Basically a 2-3 second video game experience, just for the lols.

Nowadays with iphone casual games: they expect more of your time, but what you have here is nice. Great for a jam. Easy to download, easy to understand. Nice job.

CowHerd - machine trained cows by oddstack 2018-08-13T19:17:35Z

wat do? by nikki93 2018-08-13T05:42:29Z

Thanks for fixing the link! So glad I got to play this tetris looking platformer. The character is very cute for being a pixel. Sounds are nice and fit the overall style. Very nicely done.

Mars Web by RyanJavanshir 2018-08-15T15:57:25Z

What I like about this is the level of immersion. After a few minutes of reading online PDFs and visiting very legit seeming webpages, I can almost imagine that this is a real company in real need of assistance.

It's very cool.

Technologically speaking it's very impressive as well. All of the layers all working together in browser is huge for convenience points.

Interesting story too. Well done.

LD44 — Your life is currency

Ultimate Financial Championship by Jezzamon 2019-05-17T22:38:05Z

Lol at people breaking the game. The fundamentals remind me of a game I made while on Train Jam 2019. Was not expecting a live server when I got here. Pleasantly surprised! This is a very cool and technically impressive entry. Edit: Battle mechanic is a great touch.

The Current Sea by khaotom 2019-05-13T23:00:21Z

Well for starters I really enjoyed this compo title playing on an xbox controller. I was lured in by the cover art which had a very mysterious image and a nice color way.

Agree with @jjjjason about _The Beginners Guide_ It's like Wreden introduced this concept, and @khaotom further developed it. I like how perfectly imperfect the islands align. I enjoy the simplicity.

One thing I found challenging was when to predict my forward or my backward to run out. Maybe that's part of the puzzle...? Hmmm...

Very nice entry, and again an absolute pleasure to play!

Nuclear Arms 7: Railway to Heaven by Logicon211 2019-04-30T23:59:40Z

This pretty epic in terms of production quality for a jam. The art, especially the cover art is awesome. Sound effects are stellar. And they make me lol. The controls feel good and make sense. I even notice a subtle recoil animation on the gunfire. Very nice!

THE SAVER by Gao Ming 2019-05-01T00:06:22Z

hooooly **** man. That was my reaction the moment I hit space for the first time (well the second time counting the main menu). The punch audio, the character animations - felt really really good. Really responsive, and expressive. The next aha moment was that you could bounce projectiles into others and have them blow up each other.

Very fun play. Thanks so much for posting!

Rising Dawn - First Blood: It's Brunchtime by AfroAnt 2019-05-03T23:16:24Z

Like what others have said the learning curve is harsh, but once you get it, you really feel that stealth ninja effect. Very impressive to hit that genre during a jam. Quite inspiring. Appreciate your alls work.

Your life is CONcurrency by pixlark 2019-04-29T22:13:12Z

Hey saw this one reviewed by ElysiaGriffin. Immediately made me think Mastermind. Which I can see after playing does have some similarities. Mad props for creating a puzzle game for a jam. That's still something I've not been able to pull off. Nice UI, nice file size. And nice marketing ;) cheers!

SERVUS BONUS by gurkenlabs 2019-05-08T21:41:43Z

Impressive level of polish, nice presentation, and delivery. It's a good concept and fits the theme nicely too. Well done.

Ballhogs by tddawson 2019-05-02T20:27:53Z

Wow, this is very nice. Graphics are interesting and different, yet the form is just a simple cube. The mechanics take a bit to get to used to. Once you start robbing the enemy of threes with epic jumps, it starts to feel a lot better and get more fun. Nice pacing too, with the back and forth action of a typical basketball game. Great work, and bonus points for web build!

Heart To The Sky by Baby Dino Herd 2019-05-02T20:37:38Z

Nicely done! I like how the puzzle actually stumped me for a bit. I also like how towards the end you see more of the sun, it looks quite nice, but once you get to the very top, a new puzzle element occurs around the light and using the corners to rotate your view and find the stairs in the silhouette. Music has a lot of interesting elements. Thanks for the awesome game!

Zoltan's Idea by Fanu 2019-05-03T22:50:21Z

Pretty fun and funny. My favorite is the cat pose whilst you are examining their skill traits. There is some nice UI work here. Easy to follow instructions.

Clunky Bird by ditzel 2019-04-28T22:43:49Z

The clunks are a lol. Screen shake is a nice effect too. I like the trade off of lives for power ups. Very nice use of the theme.

Robyn Hüd by Michael Feldman 2019-04-29T23:51:47Z

One thing I learned during this project is that Unity's physics are excellent at producing these wind-blown dollar bill effects.

Robyn Hüd by Michael Feldman 2019-05-03T23:33:25Z

Developer comment: Robyn's inverted normals on the left index finger are a low poly representation of a scar Robyn received when she was still younger and learning the ways of the rain maker. One day she was training with sharpened metal bills, a form of weight training, and in one fell swoop, Robyn sliced the nerves on her index finger. Only after years of practice and recovery, was Robyn able to dispense cash at near light speeds.

Robyn Hüd by Michael Feldman 2019-05-03T23:39:24Z

Also If anyone can reproduce the glitch where sidewalks disappear (only happens late game) prove it with a picture, and I may have an interesting play-testing opportunity for you :moneybag:

Robyn Hüd by Michael Feldman 2019-05-23T16:37:12Z

Thanks @derpylz @hypp @tddawson @baby-dino-herd @hutchings90 @chacharl @ioleoso @dioinecail @elysiagriffin @c0d3d for providing critical feedback on the game. I have taken everyone's notes into consideration and have just pushed a post jam patch.

*Post Jam Patch Version 1 (PJPv1)* This is a pretty major patch which should improve quality of life for the player with major changes to the item/obstacle spawning algorithm, as well as some graphics improvements, and added controller support. A detailed feature list is below:

-Players can now hold left mouse button to fire even without the full-auto power up at a rate approximately equal to 3 bills / second

-Full auto now fires 10 bills / second

-Changed spawn algorithm to be consistent across devices with varying framerates.

-Spawn algorithm ensures 2 cars will not spawn in passing formation (right next to eachother)

-Added slight variety to car shape introducing some elongated forms (trucks) as well as condensed (bikes)

-Improved visibility of powerups and powerup text

-Added louder/brighter vfx to signify power-up usage and cooldown timer

-Added gamepad support!

-Minor tweaks to skybox and lighting

The Coin's Unexpected Adventure by CharlieMrl 2019-05-03T22:19:32Z

At first I was a little curious. Very little direction was given. I like that. It gave me a sense of freedom and desire to explore. The mechanics were not too tough and not too easy. A great example is the vending machine catch. The only two I couldn't get were I am ball and Time is Money. The audio was nice. The coin effects were pretty complete with sound effects and visual effects. Very nice. Only thing I could ask for is another level with maybe a different theme

God All Smitey by SundanceKid 2019-05-02T21:06:09Z

Nice pixel art and mouse mechanics made moving around a joy to use

Piggy Butchery by Reality Blind 2019-05-08T21:50:52Z

A very innovative mechanic to expend lives for platformer elements. Makes you very careful about placement and what not. Really hit the theme on the head. Not what I was expecting. Very nice.

Bloodletter by shp 2019-05-01T00:40:26Z

This has a very fun arcade feel to it. The rendering tech is solid. Runs great on my machine, a pretty standard run of the mill cpu, gpu, running windows. I actually enjoyed the audio a great bit. Especially the reward sound. I like the duration, and difficulty ratings. I played normal my first time and found that to be a very nice playthrough. The FPS gun mechanic is very nice. The shotgun feels pretty good. Pretty strong too. Huge chunky shells that can blow up two reapers in one blow. I like how at the end you get that shotgun jump, and I also like how it progresses into a bit of a JQ at the end. Great game, great graphics, great audio. Thanks for sharing!

It's Our Last Stand by derpylz 2019-04-29T21:48:40Z

after 40 seconds. The first thing that caught my attention was the vehicle with which this game was delivered. A custom website, dedicated for the game. A+ The content is all very detailed from the story, to the music (v nice job) and the graphics. I still don't quite understand how you animated the mother goo, but alas it is a nice animation. The coolest part is the concept, which I don't think I've explored fully so I will have to come back and try again later. But at the moment I can still say the mechanics are interesting, and I'd like to know if anyone has survived for over a minute...

Creating Life! by Fersyvanderzee 2019-04-28T23:03:02Z

I think this is a nice little game. It's got good flow and even a tutorial. Not a lot of LDs will do that. I also like the idea of a game about meditation. Definitely lends itself to a game that may require one to think a bit.

Prospector Stanley by kypello 2019-04-29T22:35:30Z

Love the subtle changes in outfit over time. Great sprites, great animations, great audio. Good progression rates.

Anemia by Luma 2019-05-01T00:23:24Z

This game has a lot of story elements to it. They are clearly conveyed, something, I've had trouble with in the past tbh. The biggest element of completion in a game, in my opinion, is to have a menu, something playable, at least one end screen, and then the ability to restart. I like when i see that in a project. It helps with the longevity of a project as well if it has this closed loop factor. Anyway great work on the audio, the art, and functionality. 10/10 would invest to get this story acted out and mo-capped into a hi-def version.

Truth of life by EddenSoft 2019-05-01T00:14:17Z

A nice simple game, with a deep, relate-able concept. The way you packaged the source code in with the executable was a LD stroke of genius. Am totally going to copy in the future :zap:

The Poor Rebellion by Adam Clayden 2019-05-01T00:50:08Z

I like the approach. Actually reminds me a lot of my game. Yours has good flow, highly repeatable (makes for a good casual game), nice menu with a high score tracker. A lot of quality audio. I mean this man did his VOs, vocal audio track, and beat box. I'm impressed. Well done!

Collecting Really Nice Cats! by cheesepencil 2019-05-03T21:58:01Z

Sound effects are effective imprompty and humorous. The mechanics are simple and also hilarious. The cat throw is a simple mechanic at the surface, but I do wonder how one could develop it further... The web build is great, and the controls were easy to pick up. Gotta appreciate a great delivery.

Demon Apprentice by c0d3d 2019-05-13T22:35:13Z

So every game jam I wind up playing a top-down shooter of sort, but I don't believe I have ever in any game jam ever seen a top down scythe swinger (could be sword to upgrade too or staff, idk). But the way this mechanic was implemented was almost flawless given the circumstances. My only note is that I run dual monitors, and your game was running on the left. My mouse kept running over to the monitor on the right. So I would advise players to turn off any external monitors. Or perhaps there is someway to programatically prevent this behavior... Anyway well done. Solid mechanics, good gameplay.

I love having a web build. Takes me back to the good old days of playing flash games on miniclip or addictinggames.com (yes I know they still exist). But anyway points for accessibility, points for level design. Points for your LD page. Great instructions. Love how you even produced graphics for the instructions. It's the little things. I like your interpretation of the theme. I've seen a lot of people go in this direction, which for some reason didn't even occur to me at the start. Thanks for the play. Cheers!

The R mechanic makes this game unique and very interesting. Had fun playing this once I got the controls. Will have to come back and try to beat it sometime

A+ for controller support. Nice concept with the super hard boss that you see at the beginning but build up to over time.

The production value is great, the complexity curve is great. I like how it starts to develop some puzzle mechanics. In fact I will have to come back to this one and try to complete it cuz the effin red hammers kept killing my oneups... gg. And well done. Thanks for sharing!

Nice graphics. modeling rigging and animating in 3D is not easy game jam feat. Well done. I also had a bit of fun with the AI on the drones. Also digging the glow on the sword.

This is pretty great lol. Having auto-repeat on the movement would be a nice touch. Otherwise it reminds me of my entry where you gotta hit the button right on the beat. I never did get to slay the eggplant, I got too carried away exploring level 2 which was friggin massive. I was also checking around every corner for hidden traps / stuff. Still quite fun. Thanks!

This is flipping fantastic. I was not sure what I was walking in on when trying this game. The puzzle mechanics are really interesting. I swear I have been struggling for a looong time to find a way to incorperate meditation into a video game, as it is a practice I quite enjoy. The idea you all came up with of using meditation to summon the astral body is excellent! Only critique is blocks would often dissapear after picking up. This bug is really easy to look past in a game jam. Also I did find a little easter egg room which made me smile. Excellent job. Thank you so much for your time and for sharing this marvel.

Mall-icious Intent by superjai 2019-10-09T01:30:16Z

Love the character. Animation and controls are quite fun. Only the slashing could potentially be sped up. The tethers have potential for having some elastic effect js. Oh and occasionally the roll I would have some trouble with. Really solid though. Thanks so much for sharing this work :)

Words With Foes: Quest for the Lexinomicon by MattWoelk 2019-10-10T01:19:33Z

This is great! Could be released and sold today imo. Yes some of the rooms are a little repetitive so what. They are fantastic! The subtle wobble of the lantern. The way the tiles shimmer as you advance from room to room. The subtle animations of each tile. I think this is really cool and professionally executed. Thanks for sharing. Now if I could have that hour of my time back that'd be great ;)

Ribbon by 100th_Coin 2020-10-06T23:04:52Z

_None Shall Pass_ lol :joy: so funny. Only feedback is W/S don't really move up/down as the prompt says, instead they steer the ribbon. That took me a moment to grasp. Once I got it though, it was great fun flying around on the ribbon. **highly innovative** and works great with the theme. Highly recommend!

Crypt Loop by Los 2020-10-06T00:29:26Z

Very cool that these are generated procedurally! I wonder how that is done and also if the games are guaranteed to be beat-able. I would assume so, but haven't wrapped my mind around how. It is very rewarding to beat a level, though. I would recommend ramping up to a larger number of rings. Maybe starting with one or two then building up gradually.

Loop Industries by Simone 2020-10-06T16:16:31Z

I quite liked the interface. The way the story was conveyed progressively was nice. As someone who hasn't played any old school FPS alien/portal games, this was a great introductory experience. Really great work on the UX, the menus, the room labels, the readability of the screen were all great design choices.

While the systems feel fairly solid, I would try to add a little more feedback to things like taking damage, the portal opening, and the crystals destroying at the end. If someone shoots a glass window in an action movie, you want to see the glass shatter into a million pieces, not just disappear.

Heya folks - regarding the level editor... If you do want to share levels you make I think that would be awesome. Just paste the contents of the exported file here in the comments and I'll be sure to check em out. Below is an example! To load the sample, copy / paste it under Alice_Data/CustomLevels/someName.txt and it will get loaded when you click "Custom Game" from the main menu. Or load it by name in the Level Editor.

@ale Thanks for the feedback! The level editor was the first thing I made, and by far the most time consuming. Occasionally breaking the level design process to fix some issues with the editor. It facilitated the ability to make a bunch of levels. Making the editor saved time in the long run I believe. If you're more interested in the development process, check out the twitch link above!

@diego-escalante Diego thank you so much! I think you are being very kind, although I still believe there is some depth to be discovered even with the simple mechanics already in place.

**Attention Mac Users** I understand the latest macOS systems make it really hard to install untrusted apps. If that is the case you may have better luck using the signed version packed into a .dmg here: https://michaelfeldman.info/Alice.dmg . Do note that this version was signed and packaged after the jam, but the game contents / source are still the same as the mac link above, just hopefully a little more accessible

Alice by Michael Feldman 2020-10-06T20:44:35Z

Thanks @blobo - the editor was the first thing I did and the tool I used to create the levels. Handing it off to the user was a no brainer.

The difficulty tuning was very tough due to the fact that I knew the answers to all the levels and I was the only one testing. It does help to know that it could be beneficial to re-order the puzzles in this initial set.

Looking forward to giving Ribbon a go!

Alice by Michael Feldman 2020-10-07T22:03:32Z

@itskdog appreciate the feedback, but the level editor actually was developed first, and from that the game was born. I imagine it would be much harder to do it the other way around. And I recommend this workflow for those interested in creating level editors or the like.

@fumybulb @endurion which operating system are you running on?

Alice by Michael Feldman 2020-10-11T21:31:10Z

@fumybulb Can you look at your users/_fumybulb_/AppData/LocalLow/Michael Feldman/Alice/Player.txt - see if anything looks fishy?

Also ( @endurion this may apply to you too) depending on how you extracted the package, you may or may not have discluded empty directories. If there is not already a folder called _Alice_Data/StreamingAssets/CustomLevels/_, please add one, even if the folder is empty. I think that would cause a runtime exception that may or may not result in the game not loading properly.

Alice by Michael Feldman 2020-10-13T02:16:24Z

@sh80 Interesting ideas about having easier levels after harder ones. To be honest, I tried to organize the levels by theme first, and difficulty second. However I do tend to agree that the balance / progression could use a work.

I also agree with @pincushion and @dr-v that there could even be an overall increase in level difficulty

**huge shoutouts to @pincushion** Your level is so tough I literally thought it was impossible and was about to write you to make sure. I did finally see the solution, so rest assured I am somewhat competent at my own game. Anyway it was very cool and introduced a couple of ideas that I had not even thought of... Quite inspiring to say the least...

Alice by Michael Feldman 2020-10-13T02:26:48Z

@fumybulb @wabble @endurion Is your Windows Language set to something other than English? If so, can you try setting it to English and see if that changes anything? As @fumybulb it may have to do with the file delimeters. The Unity client is expecting % and $, but I wonder if the ascii codes get converted in different languages or something... I guess this is what happens when you don't serialize to binary.

@endurion can you shoot me a discord message at Michael Feldman#6536 or an email at michael.feldman09@gmail.com? I'd really like to try and figure this out for you and other players, but I will need to try out some debug builds with additional logging. Thanks...

Hell Ring by Jajakeim 2020-10-07T22:41:01Z

Like doom mixed with nascar. I'm curious about the engine tech used... This is really tough! Oh and the metal music is awesome! Also... Great character design in the enemies, and it made for really solid cover art! Pulled me in for sure.

Some suggestions. Balance - enemy # increases slower. Variety - different levels with color schemes / layout, also might be fun to try out some different weapons.

Grinding Gears by Pincushion 2020-10-14T03:33:16Z

Like some others have said, great level design. I like how even though there were a few levels, they were very solid. One thing I wished for at times was the ability to rotate a gear in the opposite direction with the Q key, as that would save me some time, which I desperately needed in order to solve that third puzzle! One suggestion on the camera stuff that has not been suggested yet, would be to try point and click navigation. I really enjoy the complexity that comes out of two mechanics really - gear sliding and gear turning. I wonder how many levels can be made on just those two concepts alone...

Loop of Death by Ryano 2020-10-11T19:06:06Z

Awesome little arcade game here! While I had tons of fun and actually had to force myself to stop playing, I have a couple of suggestions. Having to bring the mouse back to click restart usually left my mouse obstructing my view. Might be a nice touch to have the cursor be invisible during main game play. And also the moving barriers obstructed the view a bit. Would be sharp to get a fading or dithering / dissolve shader on those so you can see through them if they are close to the camera. Anyway cheers! Will have to come back to this one, and try get a third lap in :motorcycle:

Grand Magus by daitli 2020-10-06T02:57:12Z

The graphics are what pulled me in to give this a play. Great character design I must say  Each time I played it, I experimented a little more and more with the rewind mechanic, and found all kinds of cool uses for it. There's something so so gratifying about pulling an enemy back in time right into an AoE zone. Also big programming kudos for writing a Mesh Generator script. That's tedious stuff! All in all, very cool how the pieces came together on this one. Cheers!

Loopin' Dungeon by Itskdog 2020-10-07T22:22:21Z

Having never played the original zelda, this was really quite a unique experience. From what I've seen, the graphics are almost spot on and the gameplay quite close. The sfx clearly reminiscent of the style as well. One thing to note is I did have to read the comments to understand the gameplay loop and how there is only one room that grants access to the next. It definitely adds interest and explanation to the theme, but perhaps it could be clarified with some audio cues. At first I thought I was getting unlucky rng or there was only room type. Again once I got it though, I realized there is quite a bit of depth to this with the variety of monsters, levers, and scenery. Cheers! :)

Hall Of Mirrors by cookie042 2020-10-06T00:39:24Z

The discovery process of figuring out the rules of this world was very interesting. It doesn't hurt that the graphics are clean either. Only thing is it was just so dang hard. Like the red block was so heavy... I just wonder if there could be a way to transition more gradually to the point where this game started.

League of Ultranormal Detectives by Ghuyajil 2020-10-06T23:54:01Z

As a film photographer myself, I've wanted to make a game like this for some time now. So I appreciate the process involving the red light, the film, and the developer. I quite enjoyed the voice acting, and had quite a giggle at a couple of lines. Checked out the company website too, looks like you all have your hands in a variety of markets all involving some very cool 3D stuff! Cheers :tea:

Super Drill Boy by rakart 2021-04-27T03:19:23Z

Really great input and character design. Bring on some more levels !

Depth Seilor by deepinthewoods 2021-04-27T03:34:14Z

This is awesome ! Simple input scheme, interesting mechanics, decent challenge. Only request is that you double check the github link. Looks like an empty repo, and I'm curious to the source, because it looks like you rolled your own engine for this one. Very impressive !

grGRIDid by John Gabriel 2021-04-27T01:37:39Z

1. I do think iso perspective is cool here, but input mapping is off by 45 degrees. Arrow keys give me N,S,E,W, but the view shows me NE, NW, SE, and SW, so often I hit the wrong key first. 2. The concept is mind bending, and I love the idea and the ambiance and the music. 3. Regarding the rotation ambiguity. It seems clear that a tile-set can be rotated to a finite set of possible rotations given a specific player position and direction, however these 3 pieces of key info are left to guess-work. If this was a time-limited thing, fine. But I would recommend adding indicators for these 3 items, either visually or with audio, as well as considering some sort of reasoning or motivation behind these constraints.

LLYULANG by Scienitive 2021-04-26T17:03:36Z

The challenge and learning curve is what I was desperately missing in my own game. This fills a void in my heart, thanks :)

Pix'in' by DancesWE 2021-04-27T04:40:05Z

It's super cool, and kudos for making your own engine. That's a lot of C code. I actually tried recompiling the source, but I realized the input scheme I desire would be a bit of an overhaul. Ideally I'd like the up arrow to move my pixel up, left to the left, and so on. None of this, counter clockwise nonsense. But hey otherwise this thing was pretty cool, and fulfilled the part of me that was hoping for an into the black hole experience. Cheers !

Deep Sea Discoveries by Lithia Studios 2021-04-27T02:54:06Z

We Are Typhoon by euske 2021-10-05T14:00:23Z

Showed this to my dad, who though the simulation aspect was quite cool. I think the real fun here is indeed to find the key to maximize casualties, although the game does beckon one to explore three different routes, min cas., max cas., storm reduction. The open-endedness reminds me of this [Raph talk](https://www.raphkoster.com/games/presentations/influences/) about his simulation about bird flight, and how the game was appreciated as a sandbox type of thing

Girl in a red car by Listonos 2021-10-09T16:26:25Z

It's good but the very last line could use some work. I think I got it, but either slight modification to the paintings or that last line would have made a big difference for me. There was no mention of **anyone** standing in the road until that last line.

Great use of theme, great use of technology. I think some sound effects would have been a nice touch, maybe with an accompanying volume command

BRIMSTONE by HolyBlackCat 2021-10-11T20:35:27Z

Very solid. These levels were very dense, in that some introduced multiple ideas simultaneously. I think if the levels were spaced out a bit more conceptually and simplified further, it may be easier for folks to progress.

Hexworld by icxon 2021-10-11T21:15:31Z

Maybe if the direction of the land-ship would have an effect on those falling soldiers, would be cool. Would like to see further developed the farm, windmill tile, etc.

Hexworld by icxon 2021-10-13T19:03:47Z

One more thing, instead of making the player always a 'sire' maybe at the start have them select between a m'lord or m'lady or something like that, then use that name in the play again prompt.

A Crumbly Planet by kumber 2021-10-05T14:22:39Z

This is one of the better ones. At first I thought the hidden platforms were a bug, and somehow never quite got over that feeling. This sort of feels like one of those mega hard games like super meat boy (never played, but I think I get the idea, that you are expected to fail a lot). I felt quite accomplished when I finally made it to the rocket :)

A little 'Press Z to start' at the beginning would be nice.

Interstellar Highway Robbery by Corny 2021-10-08T13:31:52Z

The only only audio cue I needed was where I was being shot from, and maybe a heads-up as to where an enemy might be in the room. Shooting was fun nonetheless.

Like someone else said, it's not so much an exploration game, as it is an adrenaline run. Once I decided to ignore SD and just go for max number of ships in a run, that's when the game got a little more interesting, and the theme became a little more present.

My strategy became find the command module, killing everything in my path, and then go back and loot until say 30s left. I would have really liked for the blue crates to provide me with an extra 30s of oxygen.

Even though the theme is unstable and all... would have been nice to have a rest area, a moment of stability, like as soon as you board a new ship, you are in a safe room, and once you open the door the oxygen starts depleting.

The Salatroitsk Incident by DrunkardWolf 2021-10-08T13:58:56Z

Very gripping. Definitely made me feel some things at least once or twice. Controls were intuitive and gameplay was pretty straight-forward.

The theme is touched on with the radioactivity / chemically unsable, and maybe the user's unstable state, but I didn't feel it so much in the gameplay. If you really wanted to play to the chemical instability, maybe have some of the rocks turn into little rock monsters when you get up close. And maybe have the gun jam. Maybe have the player walking on a frozen lake, where the ice starts to crack.

As far as navigation goes, yes there were landmarks, but the entire terrain felt a little silly. The road markers at the beginning were great, but then the terrain turned into this giant bare bowl? A map would have been nice, maybe a car alarm so you can use audio to find your way back, or even the ability to climb the hills and get a better vantage point.

1THRUSTR.EXE by verysoftwares 2021-10-09T15:35:39Z

Feels like a spiritual successor of Atari's Lunar Lander. I found the best way to play was to keep the ship pointed mostly upwards, otherwise the combined gravity just makes the ship unstable, and with the nuc, forget about it.

Difficulty level is very high. I'm cool with missiles one-hitting the nuc, but picking up the nuc the physics are frustrating. I would try using a flexible rope sim instead of a fixed-length linear tether, maybe something like in this [Sebastian Lague video](https://youtu.be/PGk0rnyTa1U?t=292)

The nuc like bounces off the walls like a ping pong ball sometimes and other times not. You can kind of get away with that kind of thing since the theme is unstable, but in general I found the nuc's physics to be too unpredictable, but also I think a flexible tether like mentioned above might help with this.

One little choice I thought was cool and unique is a playable credits screen. It would be cool if there was some level geometry so you could fly around or dodge missiles or something in that credit scene.

Unstable Magicks by Untitled Studios 2021-10-04T12:54:22Z

This game's a keeper! Felt like a modern arcade shooter with lots of timing, strategy, and skill elements. It kind of just throws you in there. It's quite different from anything I've played with the spell rotations, the timings, and the soul collection - highly innovative.

Very well balanced, though the challenge curve is a bit steep, and the runs are short. Great for the game jam audience, but maybe a little intense for the casual arcade audience.

Celestial Heights by shp 2021-10-05T15:17:29Z

This is a great little browser game. It has a 'Getting Over It' feel as I miss my grapple from space and descend towards earth desperately trying to land a saving hook. I'm going to come back to this to beat it on hard. I made it to the 520m mark on hard, but got too confident and overshot my lunch :( Also, hilarious premise...

Once you *get it* it becomes a fun sort of meditation, unlike the chaos of original tetris.

For anyone confused at the basic strategy, one thing to note is your actions affect the opposite side of the orbit. If the orbit were a clock, what you do at 3 o'clock affects the orbit near 9 o'clock, and what you do at 12 affects the orbit near 6. This may be an over-simplification but it helped me. In other words: if you accelerate while on the top of the orbit (12 o'clock), the bottom (6 o'clock) of the orbit will enlarge. Or if you decelerate while on the right side of the orbit, the left side will shrink.

For those still lost, the basic strategy is: Accelerate making your orbit radius really large, and you are moving so slowly that... You can quickly decelerate until your orbit changes from ellipse to a line seeking the center of the blocks.

I think the unstable orbits are a great take on the theme!

@strega @bootak you can reverse the orbit by accelerating to a huge orbit, then decelerating a bunch. Once you do reverse orbit, your controls reverse. Pressing S accelerates and W decelerates.

I got to the third level, but felt like the gameplay didn't change much between the levels. I think the countdown is a bit unnecessary. Please don't start the countdown until I've finished reading the intro text!

This was clearly an ambitious project. I too thought about the stability of houses. I like that your game addresses a very real issue of housing, and helps raise awareness.

From a big picture, this game hits on the theme, but from a gameplay level, stability doesn't really play that big of an effect. And the blocks wearing out over time is... well it speaks more to the quality of the materials than the stability of the house. The stability measurements for each level are just a number representing the number of blocks, and have nothing to do with gaps, ceiling support, foundation, etc. I would have liked there to be an element of physics in a game like this.

A mic-input sensitivity slider would be nice. The limiting factor in my high score was running out of breath and getting light headed.

Harry by Owl_Skip 2021-10-06T13:12:36Z

This game made me feel things. The content itself doesn't carry as much to me as the overall atmosphere. Harry seems like a pretty stable dude. Maybe if he was fluctuating between states, I would be more interested in the story itself and get some more 'unstable' vibes

Going Home by lb01 2021-10-04T13:19:26Z

At first I tried playing in browser and thought it was broken because my mouse wouldn't move the camera. I guess this is just an assumption I have come to learn with first person perspective games.

I did not make it home, I wound up going off the map and viewing what I assume would have been the 'home' area through the back-faces of some geometry, however I couldn't get through because of invisible colliders.

As others have said the footprints are a great mechanic, aesthetically and functionally.

I think the theme is a little lost under the guise of a draining health pool. I did something similar one year when the theme was running out of power - just had a slowly draining health pool. To me the theme of this game felt more like being lost, and finding one's way, which is still a nice theme, just didn't give me 'unstable' vibes.

Still the game makes me wonder what you'd get when you mixed an atmospheric adventure game like Journey with something like a rogue-like with stats, enemies, weapons, and health... Very innovative on that front.

To those that are asking for key-binds, I highly suggest playing on a smartphone or tablet, as I think that was the intended platform. Your scores will double ;)

I didn't quite feel like the stability theme is present in the gameplay as much as it is in the game's premise.

The game is unique, fun, and even educational as it brings up ideas about space, time, matter, and gravity and ties it to our beloved Einsten.

Alien Disco by Ludokultur 2021-10-06T13:14:48Z

Very different, very out of the box. It feels a little like an overcooked style game where you have to hit all the stations in decent time... One suggestion I would have would be to randomize the key to dance, or somehow make dancing itself more involved than pressing a single button.

The Long Journey Home by OccultOne 2022-04-16T04:02:06Z

Wow! This game was made with love and you can feel it. It feels so good to control the avatar, a slender santa-like character delivering mail across the floating islands. As a designer there were some interesting choices that I really appreciated, like this idea of holding a key down to advance in a menu, thus ensuring intention. The thing that I am most impressed with, beside the mood, is just how captivated I was for the first like 5 minutes. Learning about this little world and it's rules, enjoying the atmosphere and the art. Like this thing kept me entertained for a good 10 minutes. This project really feels like an open canvas for producing something a bit bigger with more features and content. Thanks for sharing!

It's a somewhat sad experience as the quickly fleeting joy of a personal / handheld entertainment system decays into unusability. I enjoy the environment, it brings back childhood memories of playing game boy in bed with a flashlight - though fortunately I got on with the gbc and haven't experienced these lcd defects! This is the first game I've gotten a chance to review of the jam, and I have to say, it's going to be really friggin tough to follow.
