Very enjoyable game!
The deadpan delivery of the wacky-weird dialogue was great.
I had big feels for "Press E to take a nap on the couch."
Cool game! Love the concept and the sound design. Good work!
First of all, let me say, this game is a monument of human achivment. How the hell were you able to create such a polished game in 48 hours?! Amazing!
I wasn't able to finish the story, twice my UT meter did not work after I found out
Thank you for the great game!
3D game with voice over and this amount of polish is really impressive for a compo game, good job. The next clue after grinding the Q did not work and I couldn't get back despite having a full film. Not sure if I did not photograph the right place/angle and therefore Q was disabled but I was essentially stuck.
Absolutely insane how you managed to make all this in 2 days! So much more that what I've come to expect from compo games. Glad I came across this :)
I'm thrilled. The game is fantastic and has a such a good mood and audio. The only thing is, could it be that the recognition is sometimes a bit off? But I always had a image of the phenomenom. Great work.
@josh-roby It should work now, had a major outage at my internet provider.
@rossmoff @indiequest @listonos @allas @probeprob Thanks very much! I actually just uploaded a bugfixed version, as the Q indeed didn't work @listonos, and the hint showing you should venture into the forest to find the UE also wasn't triggering @indiequest - you could have finished it if you were more persistent :v:
As to how I managed this in two days: I'm a bit surprised myself that I totally finished it :scream: I guess it's knowing your tools and engine well, knowing coding very well, and making all first versions already as polished as they're going to get.
Tomorrow I'll get to reviewing at other games...
Really well put together. It had good mood and everything. I also wasn't able to finish the story because my UE meter didn't work after that reveal, but I'd like to see the end if you fix that, or hear the end if you don't. Really good asset creation for 48 hours. I'm curious how you made some of those textures.
@testuser Did you run around the forest? The UE meter is not very likely to fail, the 5th clue is in a pretty far off corner (maybe a bit too far then, I guess )
@ghuyajil you were right this game is really fun! It is very suspensful and has a nice mood, I’m very impressed with how much you were able to create for this game. Great job!
Whoa this was amazing. I just watched your youtube walkthrough but BOY this is a lot of work! I've done some 20 game jams but this is just amazing :)
@snowinn @robinerd Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it, I'm still recovering haha
I liked it a lot, especially for a compo game! Very well done. Obviously theres issues with some textures and a mushroom clipping into the altar room but its to be expected. Great job!
Love the concept of capturing things on film that you can't see. You made quite a long game for such little time. Great job.
Thanks @blue-pin-studio and @ansoneh, glad you enjoyed it! I could have fixed those issues in my bugfix update, but I think I'm not supposed to by the LD rules ;)
@testuser if you still want to see the rest, you can skip the YouTube playthrough I made to 7:38 (see updated description)
@indiequest the comment I sent to @testuser just now goes for you as well; if you still want to see the rest, start at 7:38 in the YouTube video above.
I had an issue inside the house - it seems I didn't catch anything on the camera and the game told me to go back and try again, but at that point I couldn't hit the button to take a nap, so I was stuck. I ended up watching the rest on the playthrough instead - and noticed you moved a lot faster on that than I did in game! Good work on the voiceover - nice touch for such a short amount of time.
Woooow, this was a long game for 48h, I enjoyed the story quite a lot, you created a whole lore for the game and it felt so alive, it felt so good to reveal the pictures you took, and revealing the "evil" around the house great job
Wow, just wow. For a compo game this is just amazing. I had to finish the game because I was very curious how it will turn out. The story was well written and very suspensful. The soundtrack goes well with the mood of the game. The graphics is nice. I just don't understand one thing... How did you manage to create it all alone from scratch in just 48 hours?!
As a film photographer myself, I've wanted to make a game like this for some time now. So I appreciate the process involving the red light, the film, and the developer. I quite enjoyed the voice acting, and had quite a giggle at a couple of lines. Checked out the company website too, looks like you all have your hands in a variety of markets all involving some very cool 3D stuff! Cheers :tea:
PS: that skybox resource is awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
Hey. I recorded a video about the Ludum Dare jam and included your game in it. If you want to cut your game out of the video, let me know. However, if you like the video, I make similar videos every day. I will be happy if you subscribe. Anyway, I enjoyed playing your game. https://youtu.be/01nA75SrbJs
@garys @cesargary @flying-basement-studios @michael-feldman @vlad-mgc Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
@garys Thanks for letting me know, the requirement in the kitchen room is a bit too harsh, you have to really have both people fully on a photo. But I'll fix the unable to nap bug :smirk:. I didn't mention Shift to sprint anywhere, guess it's so common I forgot  maybe in a bugfix version too...
@flying-basement-studios and anyone else reading this: I've received many comments asking how I managed to pull this off alone in 48 hours; so I've decided to do a stream some time soon, showing how I did it. It will be on https://twitch.tv/virtualplaynl - so if you follow that or https://twitter.com/virtualplaynl or follow me here on the site, you'll get notified.
@michael-feldman I used to love working with actual film, didn't do that for a long time... Happy to share resources!
@vlad-mgc No problem, nice to see you playing it! I've seen your video and it helped me notice some explanation issue at the start (no playtesting time during LD jam haha)
Hey that was such a good submission! a lot of content for 48 hours that's amazing! Voice over was a really nice touch too, you set such a good mood. The photo taking was a really fun mechanic to play around with. Though sometimes I honestly wasn't really sure what 'ultranormal' stuff i was seeing in the photos. I ended up just clicking them and the story just progressed even though I didn't see anything in the photo. Seriously good job!
@chickencastle Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it! Did you memorize what you saw in the 'real' world? And did you use the Z key to zoom in on the photos? If I had more time, I could have made it more clear per clue... Maybe we'll expand this into a full game with my company, then I'm thinking you're going to have more ways to study the photos and more mechanics where you actually have to remember what you saw in the 'real' world and point out the difference with what you see in the photo.
Lots of good content in this game, and a nice mood. I absolutely adored the board with the photos and connections.
Any criticism here is just nitpicking, so here goes: first, the scene in the forest absolutely killed my graphics card. I am aware I don't have the most powerful computer, but it dropped to 5-10 frames, I assume because the trees or shrubs are too intensely high-poly, and you don't do any LOD. The other issue is that I probably missed some clues that make me understand the story: I don't understand why I kill the guy in the end, or who the people in the blockhouse were.
This also means that I don't understand how this game ties into the theme: there's some generic time-travel going on here, and I suppose you are in a "loop" of finding clues and developing them in the darkroom, but that all seems very tangential.
These really are just minor concerns though, this is still a massively impressive entry!
@indigo Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
The clues are intentionally a bit vague - tried to do "show, don't tell" as much as I could, it makes sense that you didn't fully get it, no time to playtest them with people haha.
And yeah, I didn't have time to do a lot of performance testing... I did make two LODs for the trees though, but I think it's probably rendering settings and postprocessing as well, could you try running it once on a lower setting for me? When you're holding the camera up, it's actually rendering everything twice, so at that point it makes sense that performance is not very good...
@ghuyajil I just tried it, and performance is indeed much better on low or medium. Those do, however, cause ugly popping on the mushrooms, so I'll just pretend I never saw that for my rating. :) I actually expect that you can't reasonably offer different levels of graphics quality on a compo game, that's why I played on "High" to begin with. If I hadn't, you _would_ have gotten a worse rating for the mushroom LOD. :)
Very fun game with great writing, the story is super inventive and sucks you into the game!
@indigo Thanks for trying and getting back to me, much appreciated!
@walpolea Thanks very much, glad you liked it - so you got the clues a bit better than Elysia did... ;) Or do you think that was because you'd already seen how it worked?
This game has a spooky atmosphere and nice visuals for the jam. The idea also good and pretty interesting, however, at the beginning it was pretty hard to understand what to do.
@tricky-fat-cat Thanks! And yeah I know by now, the start it could have benefited from some playtesting ;)
So far off to a good start! I love the voice acting and music. Taking pictures is fun. Overall I would add more to the atmosphere for more engaging gameplay!
Hey @syafire thanks again for playing - not sure if you were aware when you started rating that this was a compo game; I did all the models, trees, music, sound, writing and programming by myself and from scratch, and only had 48 hours.. so not sure how much more I could have added to the atmosphere in that time 😅
First of all, I love how much content this game has to offer! The playthrough is really great and I especially love the voice acting. It really adds a lot to this game!
I would love it if you could review our game as well! Also, nice to see some Dutch Game Developers on here haha
@ayxs Thanks, glad you liked it! Will play+rate your game (I usually that for anyone who leaves feedback here) I've put it on my list! Groetjes!
This one is really great. Really loved the mood and the voice over; I can only imagine the insane amount of work you had to squeeze into 2 days. Very inspiring Well done. Cheers.
@hakro Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it! It was quite the effort indeed - I was in a hyper focus :) If you want to see how I did it, come check out my stream on November 1st!
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!
If you’d like to rewatch the playthrough, you can find it here:

Really impressive compo entry! A huge amount of content and the story was full of surprises, well done! My only gripe with the game was that the core gameplay loop did not keep me super engaged, but that's a very minor thing when considering all the work put in overall. Super polished, wow!
@elysiagriffin Thanks for playing, glad you were impressed :)
@namidasai Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I have tons of ideas for more interactions and puzzle elements and types of clues, to make the core loop way more varying, indeed. For these 48 hours, this was it ;)
Not 100% sure what I was supposed to be doing but I did find the weird black box with the two people and the baby. Definitely had an unsettling vibe :-)
May be for a team of 3 people it is not a big deal, but for one man it feels as a very strong entry. The game is not very polished or detailed and I think it was impossible to push the game further. I really like the music it is pleasurable. The voiceover works fine and glues everything together. (I mean that with the voiceover I understood what is happening in the game.) The models and environment are well fit the atmosphere and setting. I’ve only one complain that after some time it became boring to do the same activity over and over, but it’s mostly attribute of the theme of the jam. I also like that the game gives nice exploration experience. Well done!
@amirrajan Oh, didn't you follow the meter? You've missed out on most of the game then - I'd hope you'll give it another look and really go to where the UE meter goes up (or look at the playthrough video), there's a lot more story and content to discover!
@dmitry-mozgin Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! (It's not only a one man entry but also compo, 48 hours and everything made from scratch) Like I said to someone else too, I have tons of ideas for more interactions and puzzle elements and types of clues, to make the core loop way more varying, indeed. For these 48 hours, this was it ;) The theme was actually also more hidden in the loops that the Ultranormal Energy creates in time, both forward and back...
Cool game, there are a few bugs(no good pics = game soft locked or Display change = no Play for you) but overall i really liked to play the game
@apfel Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Don't know if you realized this is compo?
There was only so much testing I could do, alone in 48 hours...
By know I know about the bug with not getting good photos and then not being able to take a nap, might do a little bugfix. But could you explain what you mean with the 'Display change' thing?
This is amazing for 48h! Feels like a game that's been worked on for weeks, truly. I'm impressed that you managed to wrap it up considering the scope. Inspiring! I'm curious about your planning process. The voice over added a lot, and the (great!)music set the mood perfectly.
@notime4games Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! And yeah, I'm still very much surprised that I managed to finish it...
I will definitely talk about my planning process in the postmortem stream on November 1st, hope to see you there then! (link is at the very start of the page)
I somehow got stuck developing the photos after the night the door was open, but I did play enough to tell that this game was very impressive for 48 hours! The music complements the atmosphere well and it's interesting to search and find things. The picture taking mechanic is intuitive and unique. Good job! :)
Nice game!
this is incredible for a game jam! nice job with the voice over. i liked the sound effects of taking pictures, and the background music.
@noah-kuhn @pedrocoden and @sakura-magika Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Maybe you can join me on stream next Sunday  (see description) Noah you probably didn't get a photo with everything that needed to be in there, after that there's a little bug that can prevent you from taking a nap. If you want to see how the story ends, there's a playthrough in the description!
