Original way of gathering energy! Theme 5/5. Difficulty seems just right. Minimalistic but effective pixel art! Overal good game!
PS. I really didn't like your choice of hosting site. Annoying and sometimes inappropriate pop-up advertisements. Didn't let it affect the score of the game though.
@estebe I wasn't aware of the ads because I use Adblock. .-.
I love it! It was a tough game and sometimes it was tricky to see what's going on but I made it through. I wish there was an upward dash because sometimes there's a row of ships outside your reach and it can make you fail the game even if you catch all the ships you can get to. You managed to make a short music snippet blend so well into the game that it does not get repetitive. Overall a very polished experience.
Have you considered hosting on itch.io? It's super convenient to play games via the itch client, which does all the unzipping hullabaloo for you. Normally I like to keep special games in my itch account but unfortunately I can't add yours.
@cerno-b I was going to add it if people liked the game. xD
A fun but tough game with a pixel art style I love! Personally would've liked more options for vertical movement to match the flexibility of the horizontal movement. Music was punchy and fit well.
Love the graphics and the sound, really tight controls. It can get a little tough keeping track of your guy with a lot of enemies on screen. Nice Game!
I greatly enjoyed playing and the style! I mostly started getting annoyed when the oncoming wooden ships just kept appearing waaay too high for me to reach and gather energy from.
I do like how you made it fit the theme though! And took a few moments to figure out how to jump right after gathering energy.
The art is very pretty, and it's an original game, very nice entry! :D

Great entry!
I love your pixel art style, it could be maybe a bit of confusion when there are a lot of enemies around you, but you just have to keep pressing C and go to your target :D
The random generator sometimes it is too stingy, in one run I lost just because I only found 2 enemy ships with crystals and another one was too high to reach it.
Maybe a double jump mechanic would have benefit for the ships there are way too high.
But I had a great time struggling to reach the end!
Great job!
Good game. Fun, tense gameplay, with good art and above-average sound-design. Had issues sometimes where no enemy ships would spawn and I'd run out of power. I feel like it would have been better to raise the enemy count and increase power consumption to avoid long stretches where nothing happens. Other than that, nice work.
The first thing that stands out to me is the pixel art graphics. They are very sharp. The art seems to be very deliberate and I like that. The particle effects like wind blowing to the sprite sheet animations like punch and jump are very clean and professional. This game is so well put together for the 48 game jam I'm blown away, just like my character kept doing half way through playing Precious Cargo. But for real it's an interesting concept and fits the theme perfectly. Cheers.
Really sharp well-polished game! Pretty hectic, and pretty fun. I like the setting and the pixel graphics are pretty awesome. The audio brings it all together. My main criticism would be that the window is a bit small, and given that my character is made of 8 pixels I lose track of him really easily when there are a few enemies on the screen. Maybe that was a design decision. Cool game, glad I found it!
@wheffle Yeah, since I use pygame, I have to choose between low resolutions or small window sizes due to speed limitations. So I chose somewhat in between.
I really enjoyed the game, not too hard and not too easy. Also like the graphics and the audio very much!
Really good game! I have only one complaint: your character confuses the enemies especially when you get a hit. Maybe a little white circle behind the character with like 25% of transparency would help? I don't know, just my 2 cent. XD I love the style, animations and graphics in general. The use of the theme is perfect to me and it's innovative!
The game looks very nice! But its kinda hard.
That was an interesting game! Loving the pixel art, for sure~ The game's pretty fun, especially when you destroy a ship underneath a pirate and watch him fall! The spawning is a little off, though; most times the platforms are too far away to hop on, or there aren't enough pirate ships to fuel your own. Plus, the tiny size of your character makes clashes with pirates really disorienting, and I've found myself dashing off into the abyss more than once! Still, it's a pretty enjoyable game, well done!
Agree with the other comments: really nice pixel art and ambience! It's quite difficult, but also quite funny :D
My main concerns: 1. It lacks clarity sometimes: what comes to my mind is the gunship ==> the projectile just blend into the stars, it's really hard to see. Also, the punch feel a bit disapointing ==> maybe add a screen shake or another sound when it connects ? 2. A double jump mecanics would fit the game very well imo (or maybe an upward kick?) 3. rng is a bitch sometimes, for real ^^
Otherwise, it's a great entry, especially for the compo, well done!
Great game! The art is very good, and the gameplay and music keeps you on the edge to not falling of your ship, when the other guys come in. I like that you choose pixel art for this, is the kind of games in which pixel art contributes greatly to the game. As other said, double jump may be good for the game. Nice work anyway!
That was really pretty great, a bit tough for me, didn't manage to get more than half way. Really like the art style and the music fit well too. I kept getting myself confused with the other characters though as they are all so small, if they looked more different that would have helped. Agree with @juan that a double jump might have been nice, or maybe just increase the ship frequency to give more chance to hop up and reach the higher ones. Excellent work though.
I like the mechanic of having to destroy the other airships to power your own. The art was outstanding and the the audio set the mood. Fighting was a little chaotic reminded me a little of smash bros. This was a great entry!
I played on stream, _(VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/164456874)_ so you were able to watch a lot of thoughts live as I played. However I _**promised**_ I would come back to rate and give feedback. Any questions/comments use [@timbeaudet on twitter](https://www.twitter.com/timbeaudet). And **finally** a link to _my_ game if you wanted to check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/edrive
The graphics looked pretty good and consistent, and audio provided good feedback. The controls X / C were actually really difficult for me to get along with. I'd jump when I desired dashing and vice-versa. Perhaps UP could have been jump, as well as I felt like a double jump could have worked - especially for how often/quickly the baddies could push you off your ship.
The baddies were a little weird. On one hand they were manageable once I figured them out a bit, (_and when I stopped confusing dash/jump_), however there were times where they became overwhelming or even just surprised me and pushed me off the edge in ways that I didn't feel I had a chance to avoid or act against.
The time it took a ship to explode felt like a **really** long time. The audio effect was nice, including bassy and it felt *effective* but I completely missed the feedback that some of the ships had gems and this is what powered my ship - until you mentioned it on stream. A different sound effect, and maybe have the visuals pop out more could have helped show me what was happening without needing instructions. I didn't get to beat the game, but I gave it a handful of attempts. I think the mixing of the controls took away from the fun - for me - or the baddies surprised me more than put up a fight.
Good entry, keep it up!
@timbeaudet I used to have a hard time with arrow keys, x, and c controls, but apparently it's more common for LD games, so I switched to it from a, d, and space. And using up with that control scheme is generally considered a tacky choice(from what I've been told/seen).
I really like the art style. I spent a lot of time waiting around for enemy ships to appear with nothing to do. I think you should add a timer to spanw one so one will appear if one hasn't appeared in a certain amount of time. I found the controls a little difficult, especially in combat where it became a button mash with no chance of recovery if you missed. Having to wait while an enemy ship is destroyed is slow, let the player press Down on the ship's crystal to destroy it and let them run off while it crumbles so they can get a running jump and not break the flow of the game.
Nice pixel art, good music too. I don't like that there are a lot of times where the ship comes too high or it doesnt give any energy. I feel like it's not my fault when energy drops down to dangerous levels because no ship is coming. And when they do come, i get overwhelmed by the little running kids..
I really like the art but the game sometimes feels like a lot of waiting (but perhaps that's fine).
My favourite entry so far! Very fun and challenging!
Lovely graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hFP2TT_L4k
