LD39 — Running out of Power

Betty Botz by recursor 2017-08-10T18:36:08Z

Quite original game!

I like the implementation of the theme into the use of the robots. Very wel thought out!

Though it's said a gamepad is recommended, the implementation makes it less desirable than the keyboard and mouse. The camera can't be controlled on the gamepad. Could've used the right stick and triggers for that. Also, although the driving is analog (though course), the steering is not. Still, I'm amazed a Unity webgame can use a controller. I didn't know that. So kudos for going beyond the call of duty and implementing it!

I had fun playing it!

Neutron Escape by HitchH1k3r 2017-07-31T19:22:56Z

I'll start with the best aspect in my opinion: The tutorial is excellent! It's just the way it's supposed to be. Let the player use them to progress.

The game is almost too difficult, but considering the short span, it might be okay. You really have to exploid every advantage you have to make the hurdles with little room for error.

Also, nice exploiting of the theme! Now that I think of it, you used it 2 times even!

Good job given the time!

Precious Cargo by CMLSC 2017-07-31T16:55:10Z

Original way of gathering energy! Theme 5/5. Difficulty seems just right. Minimalistic but effective pixel art! Overal good game!

PS. I really didn't like your choice of hosting site. Annoying and sometimes inappropriate pop-up advertisements. Didn't let it affect the score of the game though.

Fukushima Robot by SoKette 2017-08-11T19:00:46Z

Finished the game and it was fun enough to do so! The art was good. Though I didn't like the sound effects. Especially the loud explosionjump. Speaking of which. The special moves didn't seem essential to the gameplay. So why have them? Only for kicks? I did use them for kicks however. :) Other than that, original take on the theme and I particularly liked the various power sources that could be used. Good entry!

Tiny Explorer by rijnswand 2017-08-13T19:20:01Z

I'm a spacenut so seeing the game, made it an insta-click for me. I love the graphics, being low poly goodness, though not the rover model. It looks almost stock, the 2 missing wheels being a telltale sign. I loved the music as well! Very atmostpheric. The sounds were good too. Servo and driving sounds were high quality and realistic sounding. However, the experience was realistic as well. The journey is very slow, with little diversions or challenges. Also, having the steering hold the last position was good, but throttle would've benefitted from this as well, as holding W for half an hour or more gets painful. Realism != always fun. That's why we have games. So gamefy the game a bit more, speed it up a bit, and I'm sure it'll be a more fun game! But solid attempt nonetheless!

Escape from Power by Petzi 2017-07-31T17:09:14Z

For some reason this game runs very slow for me. I'm not sure why that is, because I've submitted a GameMaker-game too. I've also compiled it from source, but no difference. So unfortunately I can't rate your game as I couldn't play it. You've made a good effort though!

Power Plant Simulator. by BroRawr 2017-08-03T20:34:03Z

Frantic game in a good way!

The animation is splendid, music is pumping and fitting, gamplay is wel balanced.

It is pretty hard, but hey, that's what the game said beforehand!

I only missed a good feedback upon sipping coffee like I got at the controls. It came a bit late compared.

Good collaboration!

Fart Squirrel by Pandakipu 2017-08-09T16:22:36Z

Funny little platformer! I haven't played a lot of playformers this LD, to my surprise, so this was a breath of fresh air :), so to speak. The graphics, sounds and music are good. Though the controls steal the show. As they should. The controls feel simple and tight, so dying feels like a mistake on your own part, exept the cheap death traps. Eventhough I'm not a fan of flat fart-humor, you used its theme throughout consistently. I liked playing the game to the end!

Computer Crisis by PixelFormedStudios 2017-08-03T07:26:13Z

Wahaha! This game has a boatload of humor! I liked the most that you had to play Pong and the computer said: "Back to work!" I thought that was part of the minigames af first! Funny. The text at the end was good too. It always pays to wait for stuff like that in games.

Good pixelart, though fullscreen doesn't work for it. I like low-res, but the pixels were like a square CM on my monitor! Fortunately you had lot's of display options. Very important for pixel art and overal nice to have for everyone playing.

Super Reflux Powergrid Defense! by commanderstitch 2017-08-03T17:50:54Z

Your game is certainly not bad! It only needs some pollish.

No music, though not many participants have that (I don't). In my oppinion, the biggest thing that it needs is some in-game explaination. Having weird things like a refrigerator as player and bears as fuel is fine, funny even, but explaining the stuff on this page instead of the game itself is asking for confusion then. Oh and the bears get taken even as you walk past the powered machines. I would've liked some control over this.

Your sounds are good enough, but the graphics are even better! Next time spend some more time on the other aspects, such as the UI as you said, and it'll be an excellent game!

That makes two ratings and replies, so make sure to pay it forward and do the same for others okay? That way, you in turn also get more ratings, which will help you get better at designing games.

Tiny Sub Mission by Meta-link 2017-08-10T18:03:44Z

Interesting mechanic!

Original concept and execution was almost perfect. The charging didn't seem like it had added worth, as there was no penalty for charging to max all the time. There was for undercharging, so always charging full got to be a no-brainer.

I did like the manuevering inside the sphere! It allowed for fine-tuning of the launch position to get: a bit more distance, or positioning for a bend around an obstacle. Very ingenious!

The graphics were low-poly superb! The sub could've used a bit more love, but the environments were very pretty! And lots of levels. Wow! A shame there was no sound of any kind, as you said. It could've completed the game.

I enjoyed playing this. Good job!

Lil' Digger by CF207 2017-08-03T18:31:00Z

Infinitycore is right. I'm probably one of the rare LD participants that has as NES emulator already installed, but I'm not sure if I would've downloaded one had I not. Big review for you then.

Okay, the game. Nintendohard! In a good way. Getting the timing for jumps right is crucial in this game. Therefore sounds would've been nice to have, as Infinitycore has said as well. This is sort of the communication of the game with you, which brings me to the next point. Some parts were unclear. I died after the first door aparently, I'm still not sure, because I didn't get the second key first in the second screen. There were more such things, but you get it.

I do love the level-layouts! Some parts were very well designed, like the long ladder were you had to drop off from into the high platform at the bottom. Good stuff! Graphics were also good, some things make you think about another game though, so some more identity would help the game even better.

I encountered some bugs, but that's to be expected given the short time. Doubly so making a game for the NES and for that, I commend you!

The Liberation of Liberatia by Somnium 2017-08-21T19:27:57Z

Excellent game you've thought up!

It's very original, never played anything like it. And you've took the theme in the direction almost no one has done this LD. Graphics might be simple, but very effective. I find the music tense, ever so slightly ominous and thus fitting to the game. At some point the confirmation sounds made sense to me, and even helped to determine the outcome of my actions without verifying elsewhere. Clever! It's a bit difficult for me, even when the chances are calculated. Though I tried to use the advantages that arrise, those weren't guarantees for succes. That might be a good thing, else the game would become boring.

Oh, your poetry-skills are better than mine. But it's nice to meet a kindred soul. You write a mean game and haiku!

Nuclear Night by aaranos 2017-08-09T15:52:57Z

I like the concept of the game! I also loved that you had a choice between fixing the problem or running away from it. Most games only give you the one choice, or pretend to give 2 choices. The positioning of the character and boxes was problematic though. You had to maneuver boxes and the player in pixel-perfect fashion as everything barely fit through the halls. This gave unnecessary frustration. Overal, a good team effort!

Starship by wesley werner 2017-08-08T17:29:52Z

Original little game! I liked the concept of the game. Only some more varied missions, not only flavor text, would be nice and break up the monotony. I didn't like the charging sound effect. It was loud and annoying. The graphics I did like. Simple yet enough detailed to have a certain charm. It also helped that it recalled a certain SF-show... So it was an insta-play for me!

Low Battery by MaggardJosh 2017-08-07T19:00:58Z

Good and inventive puzzle game! Really, I'm always amazed how one can come up with such mechanics. I'm not good in thinking up stuff like that. The game feels complete too! Graphics are consistent, fitting audio and music. On top of that you've made 20 levels! And a superb tutorial that teaches the mechanics of the game, even when you don't have accompanying text. I enjoyed playing this game to the end.

Archetype - Running Out of Power by cakemonitor 2017-08-06T21:10:09Z

Original game! I didn't mind the graphics, as the gameplay was pretty good. Beside, the robots looked cool with their sunglasses. :sunglasses: Nice little song on the background and effective sounds. I'm glad I played this game!

Dryad by Zarkonnen 2017-08-08T18:46:02Z

Original game-concept and take of the theme!

I liked the losing of powers, and having a choice of losing which. Though making a choice wasn't that hard as the controls kinda forced me to hold on to mind-blast and give the rest up. Go stealthy. The shooting could've been cool to do, but the unresponsive controls kinda ruined the movement needed to use it effectively. I thought the sounds were okay, graphics good even.

Inventive and complete game!

Blood Mechs: The Iron Eucharist by nuclearfriend 2017-08-12T17:16:26Z

Excellent game with a high amount of polish!

When I saw a screenshot of this game, I just had to play it! I love me some mech simulation. Fortunateley, this game scratched that itch.

The graphics are top-notch, along with the cool and fitting soundtrack. The sounds were fitting also, and the voice acting a nice touch, not ofter heard in an LD-game. Also, you've managed to make some decent controls out of the standard keyboard and mouse. Forcing people to use a joystick would've set the bar to play too high. I liked the original backstory and integration into the game as well.

I did see some slight immersion-breaking things here and there. The enemies are just drawn into view. Teleporting in front of you. A spawn-cove in a building, or some other way of spawning out of view, would've been less jarring. And the ending was, compared to the superb intro, very dissapointing. You win? That's it?

Yeah, that's it, for minuses. That's all you get subtracted. ;) I'm very impressed by the game, and it's very obvious in your case what a good team can do given the same amount of time as a single person! Kudos to you people!

LOW BATT by simonhutchinson 2017-08-12T14:53:22Z

Not sure what I'm to make of this. It was a nice audio-visual experience however. Still, was I playing a game or using a music program? These sort of things always makes me question, what makes a game? So at the very least, you've made me philosophical!

Running Voltgun by sinclairstrange 2017-08-16T19:57:44Z

Very cool game!

As an avid Sega gamer in the 90s, I grew up with games like this. And this one hits almost all of the sweet spots. Yes, graphics are 16-bit wonderful. Lively and colourful. And the music sounds like it came right out of a Megadrive/Genesis! Love it!

Thankfully it played like a 90 era game for the most part too. Though there were some things that made the game a bit harder/unfair. Namely, most hazards were hard to identify at first. The electro-barriers are very hard to see when turned off. I feel the conveyors suffer from the same thing. Very hard to tell at first what it was and seeing which way it ran. There are some hazards at the bottom of a drop that are out of view at first. Making for a blind drop. Lastly, very thoughtful to include multiple control schemes, but 3 out of 4 have the buttons in the same order: Jumping with the pinkie?! Primary controls go at the index fingers. I used a joy2key program instead to play at maximum ability.

I liked the levels for the most part, especially the section where first you had to go up using the springs, then go down avoiding the springs. Ingenious design!

Concluding, awesome game you've made! For me, this is a standard to aspire to.

Dashfister by pkenney 2017-07-31T18:56:55Z

This game really grabbed my attention when I played it, and I stuck with it till the end!

The balance between attacking and holding up a defence is very good. Collecting your dropped batteries is an original mechanic, and also breaks up the otherwise monotony of only beating enemies.

Speaking of which, the enemies are well thought out. Diverse, tough but fair. Those eagles are a real threat when parashuting. Thankfully you can abort the descent prematurely. The boss was indeed a boss! I had to figure out the way to gain more height (won't spoil too much :).

In alsmost all aspects a very good game! (be sure to rate others to get noticed more okay?)

VIS by Hackingroelz 2017-08-04T17:35:31Z

You've got nerve tackling a genre like this, but you pulled it off anyway. It's a complete game.

Relaxing music, I liked that. And I didn't mind that the graphics were simple, they were effective, which is more important in my book.

Maybe it's because I'm not so good at these sort of games, but I found it a bit tough. Still don't know how to generate more money. Oh, the explaination for "general" was cut of at the end by the way.

Conclusion, good and complete game especially considering the time.

The King's Saviour by drtizzle 2017-08-08T17:04:07Z

Nice game! A sort of cross between a runner and platform/action game.

I liked the overal atmosphere of the game and every aspect helped with that. The 2d graphics matched the style of the 3d. The music was calm and fitting, so was the story and even the font. All are wel chosen/made together! I agree with most that the controls are not the most responsive. For some reason, I could not use both the right and left mouse buttons at the same time. Never had that before.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed playing this game. Kudos!

Defend Home: Mars by sgt3v 2017-08-01T19:27:40Z

The core gameplay and mechanics were pretty good and engaging! I really had to keep an eye on the other generator whilst fighting of the ants at the nearest. I also had to decide to go for ammo far away from the generators, or take a chance on having enough. Good balance!

I thought the audio was the weak point. The sound effects weren't fitting and the music is monotonous (but at least you've got music, I don't! ;).

The graphics are top notch though! The best thing I liked was the transition from the starting screen to the planet! I like little touches like that.

Lots of work was done I can tell, and you're still working hard for the compo, being top rater!

Don't be (the) patient by Sogomn 2017-08-06T20:23:24Z

The audio is VERY lo.. just kiding! ;)

I've never played the game you based this one on, so it's new to me. Haven't seen this type of game before, so it was pretty fun. At the very least, you've made a good remake!

In the beginning I had difficulty with the game, but after 2 game overs, something clicked... and I got a highscore of 51. During this I've found that the game doesn't punish you for clicking a wrong sequence. Perhaps you could use that to detract from the time you would've accumulated. Because after 51, I didn't see anything anymore and had to wait 5 min for the game to end.

I find the graphics to be nice and clean, and the sounds are effective. But I'm especially impressed by how the game is always able to generate a solvable solution.

For a last minute change of heart you've made a cool little game!

idk by ulydev 2017-08-10T18:20:37Z

I "wasn't good" in the beginning until I finally got how the "switching" mechanic worked. After a few tries I got 69-hundred something, when I retired. I liked the flashy graphics, though it took some adjusting to the switching of color styles. A thumping beat accompanies the gameplay. Good! A bit more clear explaination and it would make a superb app game!

How I Met Your Great Great Grandmother by PeachTreeOath 2017-08-08T19:12:48Z

Very original game. I've never played anything like it! A complete game too with everything that it needs. Graphics, sounds, music and mechanic. Good team effort, though procreating at age 108 is a little weird...

Sky Sea by Zeriver 2017-08-07T07:58:52Z

Nice relaxing game, as you said. The music complements the mood immensely. Original game too! I haven't seen something like that, so that's always good. I like the low-poly graphics, though some had a weird rainbow-like sheen on it. The propellor and ford for instance. A bit short, but that's to be expected. I wanted to play some more, so that's a good metric huh?!

Plane'R by R3L0ad1 2017-07-31T13:56:04Z

I've played your game and it's not too bad!

I especially like that when you die you get to shop. So you've made dying kind of rewarding or, not frustrating. You stuck the theme in there as well!

Only thing I missed was an objective and an explaination for the mechanics. The first time playing had me guessing what was what for.

Overal, good job!

The Tertielemental Wizard by ectucker1 2017-08-07T18:36:21Z

The theme was well implemented in this game! It was hard to use the limited mana supply optimally, but not impossible. You had to figure out the most effective way to dispatch the different enemies. I liked playing it to the end, though a proper end would've been nice.

Good team effort!

Power Earth Saver by wwwhizz 2017-08-04T17:20:22Z

This game is really my cup of tee! Very original take on the genre, being a mix of different games and including something unique, the power management.

Graphics are typical pico-8 style, which has a nice pallet of colors. Music and sounds fit the action well.

My only suggestion would be giving the rockets splash damage for clearing out groups. Right now, it's not very different compared to the cannon.

Other than that, I enjoyed the game!

On The Brink by tbeakl 2017-08-03T19:09:01Z

It needs some cohesion to bring the minigames together. I didn't get the empire story thing. Also, some games, as you said, are not so original.

You've got designing skills, I can tell from your game. You just need some more original ideas and identity for your game. As I said, I think you can easily make them come to life!

Pay it forward alright?

enge spin by tommie96 2017-08-11T18:43:42Z

The minimalistic looks and explaination intigued me. At first I didn't know how to pass the first monster. Then I took a look at your screenshots and found a hint. After that it was smooth sailing. A nice and somewhat relaxing experience. Though I expected the game to continue to another level or end one I reached the far end to the right. The end?

Anyway. Interesting game, with minimalistic but beatiful graphics, controls, sounds & music!

GLOW by abductedPlatypus 2017-08-14T20:40:11Z

Normally I'm having trouble getting into "artsy" games, but this one grabbed me from the beginning!

Everything fits together so coherently, it's just, I don't know, good you know. Art (not even gonna call it graphics anymore), music, sounds, gameplay. Everything just, gells together so well. The total atmosphere is so good I kept playing, despite the hard parts. Thankfully, you've employed checkpoints, as I'm sure I would've ragequit after a couple of deaths if you didn't.

The only, and I mean, only gripe I have are the icons. I just don't think those fit the rest of the game, other then collecting them.

All in all, truly excellent game! Stellar job!

GLOW by abductedPlatypus 2017-08-14T20:40:11Z

Sorry, trigger finger. Can someone delete this? I can't.

Power Tank by sirikan 2017-08-03T19:21:06Z

Hard game! The enemy tanks seem to have more armour. Perhaps it would be a bit less hard if you could slave the camera to the turret. Most tank games work that way for a reason.

Still, good attempt!

Powerwatch by Gurbx 2017-08-07T07:34:07Z

This game is hard! Luckily it's fun too, so I'll give it a go later. It looks amazing! Hard to believe it was made in 48 hours. The sounds are effective and the gameplay is good enough for a quick go.

You worked hard, good job!

PoweRL by Steve Johnson 2017-08-04T16:55:51Z

Awww, I wanted to try this game after reading the words: rogue-like!

I agree that vector art can be tough to do well. I myself went for vector too and I thought there were a lot of inconsistencies in the graphics.

SteamBot by drmargarido 2017-08-12T15:28:02Z

The game has some good things going for it! I like the art. It's pretty good. Good sound effect for the gun! The music was tense, as it should, but a bit repetitive though. However, I felt the gameplay a bit lacking. Nice mechanics in place, but those could've used some balancing. Holding space keeps shooting, but enemies only need a single shot, therefore rapid-fire is a waste of energy, which is crucial in your game. There are 2 enemy types, but they act and are countered the same way, so for al intents and purposes, they feel like the same enemy. Also, the game could've benefitted from a slow increase in difficulty the further you got, as the game quickly became easy as one got more skilled. Concluding, solid and complete entry. Go team!

Gradient Descent by Zelos 2017-08-03T07:09:25Z

At first, playing this, I thought: What is this? Is this even a game? It seemed pointless. But that was perhaps because of how most games give instant gratification. No, with this game you get it at the end, and then some!

It's a really beatiful game and not only visually, though it's that too mind you. It makes you think about choice and sacrifice. At the very least it makes you think about what constitutes a game? It must be interactive, which it certainly is. I think it's almost like art even. In the same veign as Journey and other such games.

Music is also top! You played that yourself?

On more thing: Aren't the big stars killing the little starts to help themselves live? What does that say about the big stars? You got me thinking man...

LD39 Compo: Trindle Armored Defense by vkmicro 2017-08-09T16:10:59Z

Nice little arcade tank game you've got there. I love tanks and a game with them in it always gets a play from me! Like I said, it feels arcadey and that's a good thing. There were different tanks that broke up the otherwise monotony. I wasn't fan of the controls though. I tried using numlock, the tank couldn't move at the same time, but worse, I couldn't get control back to the tank. Perhaps using the mouse for control of the turret, using a cursor and slaving the turret to that, would work better. Then you could move and shoot at the same time like a real tank. Still, it was fun for a quick play, so good job on your first LD entry!

Power or die by Aterlamia 2017-08-01T20:30:05Z

This is a difficult genre to pull of well, so good effort!

The story was well written, and the explaination clear and funny.

But the gameplay didn't reflect that. I could only build one thing in the beginning and not the things I needed most. That made it frustrating.

Original music! I haven't heard something like it, it's unique and not in a bad way.

A little rough around the edges, but you've made a good foundation here, so it would be a shame to let it die. Refine it and I'm sure you'll have a superb game!

Tracked Bot by AlbertoFdzM 2017-07-31T18:40:36Z

I've tried the game anyway.

You've got some good mechanics in there! The control you need to hold over the wheels is difficult but fun to do!

I think the battery drains way to fast though. Perhaps, when doing nothing, it could drain a tad slower. And generating energy is a lot of work

Still, you tried making a game. Good effort!

S.O.S. by adam-gould 2017-07-31T17:27:53Z

Played your game and it's pretty tough! In a good way, because I finished it on the second attempt.

Good use of the theme. The phone is handy, essential even, but soo hungry... :)

You even had music, not many compo games have that. No sounds, so perhaps that was the tradeoff huh? I must say the music is more important in this game. It gives a sense of emergency, which is fitting.

Good job! Oh yeah, 1 day? Even more of a good job!

Mars 9 by PUARSLIBURF 2017-08-11T19:24:00Z

Cool game, but utimately it proved to hard for me. I grew frustrated and quit. While I like a challenge, it felt unbalanced. The shooting costs way too much, and enemies took upwards of 4 shots to dispatch. I did like the art, it meshes well with each other. And the music had a nice tune! Sounds were good enough. Overall, you've made a complete and good game. Congrats!

Luvius by Anudin 2017-08-04T06:31:27Z

Very atmospheric game! Mood is very good.

It makes for a tense game, but only after I understood how to play the game. The explaination/tutorial in the beginning is not very helpful, for understanding the timing of the game. The first 5 times had me guessing what happened and what "she" said. It does get a bit repetitive and I quit after level 3.

The graphics are nice and clean. And your first incorporation of audio worked out well. The theme is there, but fortunately it's not so in your face, as you can easily do without the flashlight.

Good entry and keep it up!

MotherBoard by nikrt 2017-08-01T20:58:18Z

I thought the graphics were almost perfect. It was mostly clean, but with a little things that didn't quite fit the rest. The camera was almost perfect in my oppinion. Original angle and way of moving, albeit a tad too slow.

Loved the music though! It sounds very bombastic and epic-like!

Wasn't keen on the sounds, they didn't seem appropriate for the dramatic looking and sounding game.

The enemies seemed a little cheety. They found me from across the map and converged like an angry mob. This made the game a bit unfair.

The Ctrl-Alt-Del weapon was original! I loved it! It was hard to use, but it came with a great reward. Could use a bit more splash damage for crowd control.

One last minor gripe. I couldn't properly shut down the game. So I had to use Ctrl-Alt-Del for real haha!

A wel deserved pass!

Charge! by dragonxvi 2017-08-04T18:24:07Z

I love this game!

I haven't had that during this Ludum Dare yet. This rogue-like is very engaging and, more importantly, has an identity of its own.

Graphics are very good. My only gripe with them is that the "dirty door tiles" are not very clear. You easily walk past them, mistaking it for ooze, or debris. But perhaps that was your intention huh.

Sounds are good and music would've been a nice extra, but I consider the game engaging without it.

Is there a way to attack diagonally? The enemies can, but I'm not sure the player can. Perhaps one could hold z or x and pres two arrows to do this.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a game to finish.

Artifact Dive by AdroitConceptions 2017-08-03T10:37:32Z

You've got a nice game there.

Graphics looked like place holder, but your music was very good! And you made good use of the theme.

Perhaps a bit of polish to make it complete. I'm sure It would make a fun game to play for more people and not be dismissed instantly.

I'm impressed you got procedural generated levels working! That's always tricky. A bit of variation in the layouts would be good.

Nice work!

X-Moon 2: Dark Moon by leafo 2017-08-11T19:31:01Z

Interesting game and great lighting tech! I'm impressed with how the lighting is done in this game. The choice of monochrome was good, as colors wouldn't have added worth here. I grew frustrated though when I couldn't find my way further in level 1. So that's as far as I got. Still, you've made an original game. Good job!

Run Meatbag Run by mcfearless999 2017-08-15T19:40:51Z

Hmm, I tried my best, but I didn't understand why I slowed down even when the shelves are knocked down.

So, good job publishing your first game, but you're not there yet. If that shelf thing or anything else is a serious bug that makes the game umplayable, you're alowed by the rules to make a bug-fix for it. I would suggest to do so, as it's not to late to play games and let others play yours.

Cool graphics! You really put a lot of work in those. While the music sounded nice, the loop was way too short for my tastes. It got repetitive soon. It could've also used some more sounds. I liked the essence of the gameplay. It only needs some tweaking. One already said that the ships take too long to destroy. I also believe the player ship turns too slow and flies too fast for it's own good. It's hard to hold control over it, while at the same time having the enemies push you around. Still, nice first entry for Ludum Dare!

Night shift by scambier 2017-08-10T18:56:27Z

What happened? One minute I was in the middle of playing. The next, I had to start over. I think it was game over, so it could've been more clear. Also I didn't know why, as it seemed I had everything under control. I liked the art style. Very clear and consistent. I didn't like the sounds, but I guess that's the TIC-80. They did sound the part, so given the engine, you did the best you could. I also like the flavor text. It gave me a chuckle. You said half the features are missing, but I think it feels almost complete. So good job anyway!

The Magical Substance: Coffee by FunkyHippo 2017-08-04T17:09:28Z

This game sounded funny, so I gave it a go. It's indeed frantic fun! I got 46% on my third try.

It was a little unclear for me in the beginning what was expected because of the chunky graphics, but I got it after a while. Sounds are good enough, could've used a hectic little song.

Original entry!

Delivery Drain by Thorneto 2017-08-01T20:13:32Z

You've got difficulty selection, jay! That's an extra and is always a nice extra to have. My memory is not the best, so I have to open the map alot. Medium is pretty tough for me haha!

The music, sounds and graphics are not too bad.

The gameplay is a tad monotonous though, so that could use some spicing up.

You stuck the theme in there. I liked that the map couldn't be opened whilst driving. Very responsible!

D34TH by Falk Bruskeland 2017-08-01T19:47:05Z

Solid mechanics in there! It's pretty tough but fair.

The sounds are effective and so is the pixel art. Nice and clean.

The only gripe I had with it, is not knowing what to do sometimes. The next level menu took me a few tries to understand. And I'm still not sure how to go to the next level after the first fire-pillar hurdles. I didn't get the level-menu. So sadly, I couldn't finish the game.

I wanted to play more so that's the most important right? Good game and good first try!

Power Running? You'd Better Go Catch It! by dgollahon 2017-07-31T17:16:46Z

You took a nice run with the theme, well done!

I also like the attacking and being attacked mechanic. These two go hand in hand better than you'd think.

Loud sounds though. I had that with my game as well haha! Oh and more levels would've been nice. For real, I wanted to play more.

Depths of Oceania by cnoble 2017-08-03T19:44:36Z

I really wanted to try out this game after seeing the teaser picture between the other games! I'm glad that I did.

The 3d graphics are very good! I especially liked the unique design of the sub. The particle effects were nice as well. Although I didn't think the 2d overlay complemented the 3d. It wasn't as clear or fitting.

I also liked the unique music a lot. It sounds very underwater-like!

My only other gripe with the game is that some things weren't immediately clear. Like why I couldn't descent any further. Or getting more energy.

Other that that, impressive entry!

Marvin's Message by ryluu 2017-08-08T17:13:12Z

For some reason, the game won't load in both Firefox and Internet Explorer for me. That's too bad, as I really wanted to try this game after having read about the shutdown-mechanic.

These things are best served in small doses. Minigames or such things. It's best to switch it up with other types of stuff to click and do.

Quest for Normalcy by CaptainDreamcast 2017-08-06T20:39:36Z

I like rythm-games and yours has the timing down well! Though there's no penalty for hitting wrong buttons or a losing-condition.

I didn't mind the graphics but the music got a little annoying. The flavor text was kinda funny in some parts.

Give it a bit of polish and some repercussions. You'll have a fine game!

Skelly Zone by mattmirrorfish 2017-07-31T19:09:28Z

Yeah the link fails for me too. I found it with a manual search on Itch.io though. This is the link https://mattmirrorfish.itch.io/skelly-zone Next time, try clicking your links to make sure they work okay?

Game looks very good, music is nice too!

I'm not into tower defence myself, but it does what you expect from the genre.

My computer was sadly not up to the task. Even at very low settings, it failed to run smoothly (old quad core (I know)). I noticed very little change in fps between the settings.

High amount of polish for game made in such a short time! Good job!

Pura The Robot by Ramkey 2017-08-06T19:37:44Z

I'm here to pay back the kindness you showed me.

Your game is very original for a puzzle game! I especially liked the dropping of body parts. Never seen that before. I thought that the boxes weren't needed anymore at that point, wrong! You made those boxes necessary once again.

Some very ingenious stuff in there! You only need to explain some things some more. For instance, it wasn't immediately clear that the sensors were delayed. That proved to be the key in the second intro level. I finished the game regardless.

Of course, the humor helped too! Some funny dialogue here and there. The accidental grammar mistakes actually made the dialogue even funnier.

Good and, more importantly, complete entry!

Torch Boy by FloBar 2017-08-01T19:57:49Z

This game is promising!

The graphics are deceptively simple looking but very well done. Effective sounds too. They fit the action.

I don't know how to get the key by the way. The game tells me to get the key, but when I get to the cage I can't grab it. Tried every button. So that was a bummer for me.

Gameplay is very brutal. Hard, but manageble once you practice. The charging gives you a little breather. I liked that, nice touch!

Ack & Dac by BoliBerrys 2017-08-03T18:47:30Z

I get what type of game you were trying to make, a sort of cooperation game. But you've made it waaay to hard. I couldn't even get Ack through the door in time after Dack flipped the switch. And that was after the first death of Ack. You can make it this hard, but only after people are accustomed to the game a little. Also, explaination of the controls is needed. At the very least here, on this page.

The graphics were good enough, but the theme of the game (not LD39 theme) is wel thought out! Names, colors, logo.

It's a shame because I really wanted to play more of this game! That's good huh?!

Character Building by Badly Drawn Rod 2017-08-06T20:59:16Z

Yeah, you had some true-to-life situations in the game, haha! But I couldn't relate to most choices and outcomes. That kills the mood a little for me. Pulls me out of the narrative. Of course, it's satire, and seen in that light, the text and endings are actually funny! I like cats but not that much... Original take on the theme!

High Rise by AMastryukov 2017-08-04T16:49:59Z

I have nothing noteworthy to add other than what the others said. Needs some extra options to give the illusion of progress and satisfaction like other clicker games.

Graphics are good and the music is fitting for the action. I quit after 100 floors if that's a helpful metric.

Good job making the game!

Ludum Dare 39 Game(No name) by Haydens_Studio 2017-08-15T19:29:59Z

You have a cool mechanic there! I also think the sounds and models are pretty good. I especially like the main menu being integrated in the beginning of the game, though clicking "upgrades" does nothing. If only you focussed a bit more on animation. The crash through the wall and taking a dive could've used a bit attention. Still, the skydiving itself was pretty well done. Good first try. You've made a game!

So, you need a few more ratings to get 20, at which point you'll get a score. And a score helps to improve yourself for the next time. But...those ratings don't come by themselves. You have to play other games, rate & comment them. Remember: People are more inclined to rate your game if you rate others. There are still 6 days left and 2351 games to play, so there's bound to be some you would like to try!
