This was a really impressive game. Design and mechanics are just too good. Getting close to a blackhole lights go low was a smart hint.

This was a really impressive game. Design and mechanics are just too good. Getting close to a blackhole lights go low was a smart hint.
Good visual style and nice light effect. I don't get what the energy is needed but is pretty to fun.
@franfox My use of the theme is a bit questionable. You actually have to restore the lost energy by destroying each black hole. Once you've destroyed each one, energy is restored to the level, the lights come on, and you can move to the next floor by going back to the spawn
I like the idea of having to restore the energy in a level to make it visible. I found it a bit too easy to run into the enemies though, which made me have to restart frequently.
Cool style, but a little too hard to see where you're going for me. I know that's the point, but I think the light radius could have been a little bigger. Nice overall aesthetic though :)
Fun mechanic, but definitely pretty difficult for me! The enemies are a bit hard to get a good angle on.
Nice entry! Angling to get a shot on the enemies was a little tricky, but I loved the idea of destroying the black holes to restore energy.
This looks really good! A really nice visual style. I like using my shots as a light source too. Restarting the whole game on death was a bit harsh though, considering how quickly you can die. Restart the level instead!
Cool entry, the visual effects are on point, but I can't finish the second level (too hard for me:3)
This is such a polarising entry!!!!
I really want to like it but I really can't say that I do - the design choices really conspire to make the really cool mechanics sort of just flop around. - The game is SUPER JUICY. The shots and effects and the glowy lights stuff are really really fun, looks great. - Movement is great. Responsive, great speed.
BUT:
- Finding the "black holes" and completing the level felt like a matter of rote memory, die, and come back and remember where you died. In the dark. Repeat three times. The whole "light dims when you get closer" thing was not obvious to me, if I didn't read that comment I wouldn't have known. And at no point in the game did I feel like I was armed with the knowledge that the thing I was going after was what was killing me over and over. It FEELS like I just got shot out of nowhere and died without knowing why. It didn't feel like I was running into a static thing that killed me because it was the same colour as everything else. L feel like the goals should be a different colour. I know you've made it like this intentionally, but it just simply wasn't fun. - Getting a good angle to get a shot at the squids also felt really painful to do, it wasn't "challenging" because of a skill, it felt challenging because of controls that felt wrong. The game felt like a twinstick shooter, so I felt I should have been able to strafe and shoot (walk up and shoot right, for example), but the lack of that degree of control freedom made me feel crippled, even though I understand that this is not a twinstick shooter.
I really really wanted to like this!
Liked how the black holes were hidden in the darkness! I think the jellyfish enemies that shot at you were a bit too hard to avoid, but I liked some of the level design choices (like only being able to shoot at a black hole hidden behind an opening). The sound was a bit blown out for me, but otherwise was okay. Keep up the good work!
Super good game and minimalist in addition. Beautiful work
Interesting game and great lighting tech! I'm impressed with how the lighting is done in this game. The choice of monochrome was good, as colors wouldn't have added worth here. I grew frustrated though when I couldn't find my way further in level 1. So that's as far as I got. Still, you've made an original game. Good job!
There's a nice mood to this game, the low rez graphics worked well to create the right atmosphere. It was quite unnerving moving around in the dark. The black holes were a little too hard I think, as I often didn't notice them and just randomly died. I still enjoyed playing though and went back to it a few times
Thisn game is so hard ! I didnt understood what should I do first(it's my mistake I did'nt read the text XD). Liked the pixel art and the effects. Good entry.
I like this game, it's so juicy, shooting and movement feel so great. But getting anything actually done, is a pain in the butt. Just as @tuism said, shooting those squids isn't fun, and running full speed into invisible blackholes isn't fun. Maybe the movement speed is just a bit too fast. And maybe if the light would have a much greater range when away from a black hole, it would be more apparent that a black hole is near.
Also having no checkpoints is a bit too punishing in my opinion.
I couldn't play it very much. When I die it appears this :( https://gyazo.com/57a9c0ad4dba163d487a55a156a55dc2
I had a great time playing this game!
If I understood, it is more about a world running out of power (because of black holes) than a player, and this is something I really like!
Graphics are really enjoyable and audio too, I liked that enemies only appears on level 2.
Great entry!
It was fun. I like the light and gun effects. Good job.
