This is a great game! Good art, fitting sound and great idea :D

quemagalletas 2017-07-31 09:42

Wow this is quite a good idea, I like the strategy here, not only caring about health, also looking at your money and knowledge!

Quite cool! You should consider to polish this and upload it to kongregate or something like that ^^

simonhutchinson 2017-07-31 18:27

Very cool and clever game here. I really like the multiple streams balancing aspect.

It seems to be a bit old-fashioned in its conception of marriage. Perhaps it would be a little more contemporary to switch between the male and female between generations.

I mean... after all, I'm having kids when I'm 72 sometimes...

aevek 2017-08-01 04:14

Very cool game! I love the usage of the four boards at the same time, its implemented very well!

guillaumem 2017-08-01 06:06

I didn't expect this type of game when I launched it, but the idea is really good and gameplay elements too. I enjoyed playing this game.

maskinmask 2017-08-01 06:44

hahaha.Ted is that you?

wheffle 2017-08-01 08:02

I'm really impressed with this. For the life of me I am terrible at making puzzle games and will always fight to avoid manual level creation at all cost. The number of complex levels you guys put together with a meaningful puzzle mechanic is really impressive for a game jam. The mechanics are awesome too, a combination of simple concepts that work really well together to add complexity. Very nice!

esokishi 2017-08-01 08:03

Really really cool game, I loved it. TBH, the summary and screens made me think i wouldn't like that game (and that it was out of theme), I'm so glad I tried - you proved me wrong! You should really polish this, it's very good! Also like @simonhutchinson said: "It seems to be a bit old-fashioned in its conception of marriage. Perhaps it would be a little more contemporary to switch between the male and female between generations." I agree completely, it would be nice to switch, to have some other people, etc etc!

pixel-game-wizard 2017-08-01 11:16

This is a very interesting mechanic! I don't think there's too much I can add that others haven't already said. :-P Good job in coming up with it!

I also love some of the smaller references to How I Met Your Mother (e.g. I think "Swirly" was a reference "Swarley"? :-P ).

pan 2017-08-01 11:38

Really cool idea. And I like the concept that you have to play on 4 different fields at a time. It's very interesting and well implemented.

Levels are different and nicely designed.

Overall really good game.

Well done!

Very nice savesystem that you can restart the level and don't have to restart from the beginning.

Good multiple dimensional puzzle. Its a nice change for a puzzle game. Good Job with the game

ada 2017-08-02 00:34

Great idea, something new for me! I really like these strategy games. Graphics is quite old style, but even so I enjoyed.

filippy 2017-08-02 01:11

This was one the best submissions I have seen so far, the presentation of the new character after each generation is just genious, also the fact that you have many different portraits to itterate different people was a super nice touch.

The puzzle itself was what made it for me, very clever nd challenging but easy to grasp (at least after you die once and get the "tips")

shaolin-dave 2017-08-02 05:14

Haven't seen a puzzle with this kind of mechanic before, great innovation. A few times the guy getting books didn't move even though there was nothing in his way, not sure if that's a glitch or I just wasn't playing right.

ouichesdoctor 2017-08-02 08:01

Nice game ! I really like the way you use the theme and the gameplay is really addictive ^^. Really fun to play. Good work !

rocketship 2017-08-02 10:00

It's got a bunch of great elements that a puzzle game should have. The multiple "currencies" makes it a really enjoying strategically, looking at the board and how you should approach collecting different stuff. Liked also the fact that the energy didn't go down constantly, because it gave you more time to think about your moves and not just rush through.

Also, big plus for allowing the player to continue from the same map as where they died at, too many games think it's a great difficulty element to make the player start from the beginning, I find it just annoying.

agecaf 2017-08-02 13:55

Awesome game, with tough puzzles. The idea is quite interesting and meshes great with the theme, and the design of the levels really showcases what the core puzzle design can do. The challenge was there; many of the levels made me retry and rethink about my strategy. Maybe a couple of easier levels to get the player up to speed would've been nice.

I also quite liked the detail in how your player character gets older and older, it's quite a nice touch : )

perdugames 2017-08-03 19:29

Very good game, very well worked sounds, beautiful designs, good gameplay, great work.

rigdonware 2017-08-04 06:37

Super fun puzzle game! Pretty challenging. Great job!

hunttis 2017-08-04 06:56

That was really cool! I liked the idea of having to plan your path in multiple boards before you could solve the levels. It reminded me of some older game where you had two characters that moved around at the same time, but with steroids. Almost immediately understandable, easy controls, nice sounds and music, this is really good.

My only minor tiny issue was that the music started from the beginning every time a level started, so it made it a tad repetitive (the music was fine in itself, by the way).

jezzamon 2017-08-04 07:26

Nice idea. One piece of feedback I'd give is that the way the tutorial appeared over parts of the screen made me want to close it somehow so I ended up skipping it and then having to reload to see it again.

diptoman 2017-08-04 09:06

That was really fun, spent a lot of time playing. Pretty cool strategy game, although the multiple systems tend to get unnecessarily complex at times, especially around the 7-8th level. The graphics sort of felt like an incompatible mix, with the game board resolution being really high, the portraits being pixel art inside high-res oval frames. The soundtrack, I really liked. Fits in with the overall pace of the game.

tmpxyz 2017-08-04 12:49

Very interesting design. good game.

2017-08-04 16:01

Nice concept! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qvdJmOzeNg

shabap 2017-08-04 16:27

Good idea but maybe start with 2 maps and gradually increase the size as it is really hard in the beginning.

gimbalock 2017-08-04 17:46

Very unique level design. Really like the idea, and the graphics and music fits the story well. Nice transitions between levels. Cool game!

guckstift 2017-08-04 22:07

Somehow a mix of puzzle and adventure (of love ^^) I love your game its somehow addictive and funny: the only world where an old man (113) with enough knowledge (not much money) can have a young girl (30) <3 <3 <3 Nice work!

celia14 2017-08-05 02:11

This is an awesome puzzle game! Managing the four boards and handling different resources turned out really fun. There's a lot of humor in the concept and I love that the portrait gets older as you go.

plepletier 2017-08-05 03:26

great puzzle game!!! Its really hard controll more them one screen ehehhee Good job!

dariusa 2017-08-05 07:44

Nice concept ! The music is also quite addictive, the portraits that depict you becoming old are a fun touch

michaeltwg 2017-08-05 07:52

Very nice idea, I like the graphics of you family tree, I think that you should have kept the pixel art on the rest of the game (maybe it was a time problem?).

pavelsovushkin 2017-08-05 08:07

WOW!! It`s REALY cool concept! Very cool!

fledgeling93 2017-08-05 12:01

That's a great idea and an interesting implementation. The concept of multiscreen puzzles is not a particularly innovative idea, but I've never seen it interpreted this way. Great job, guys!

smbe19 2017-08-05 12:11

Great idea and well executed. Looks and sound very well. The later levels are quite challenging. Awesome game!

I never saw such a large team before, 9 people are quite a lot for a Ludum Dare team. Isn't it hard to coordinate so many coders with such a small amount of time? And SLOC is of course the only relevant factor

pkenney 2017-08-05 16:02

Wow! One of the things I love here is how different this is from Peach's entry from last time, makin' it work with a large team and delivering some variety, it's impressive.

The game is nice in all the aspects, but maybe what I like most is how it sits right at the edge of being a bit too much for me to plan my moves out too far in advance. So the "planning horizon" if you will is in a real sweet spot. I'd have moments of thinking ahead but also moments of saying "oh geez I better make it happen with some pills now or I'll die!"

But everything was on point, art sound music and design. Great job, everyone!

tbureck 2017-08-05 22:07

Amazing game, each aspect of it play together nicely with the other ones. Only negative thing I found was that I often had to look twice which of those figures was me after focusing on an other aspect of my life, but that's nit-picking really.

It's also fascinating to organize such a huge team in such short time. Good job!

rikoclon 2017-08-05 22:43

Wow a 9 person team! that's cool you could coordinate that many people to come up with such a specific and complex game. I really liked the concept. find some cash pay for education and meet your woman before dying. I died a lot, which is good. I prefer a challenge. I like the innovation of the 4 dimensional world. Not too much negative here. I felt bad that the new kid had really really old parents every time but i suppose that's my fault. The audio was good. I would have perhaps upped the graphics a bit. white squares only go so far. surely one of 9 could have made a better square than plain white? GREAT WORK coming up with something extremely unique and very playable. Good job keeping the fun factor up!

danielenricobotta 2017-08-06 11:57

Very nice idea!

vulpem 2017-08-06 20:32

Personally, what surprised me the most was the difficulty level. It never felt "over difficult", frustrating or stressful, which could be common in a game like this. And, somehow, i still died. And it didn't feel unfair, i earned it and i kept playing, because it felt "doable". Congrats to the level designers.

Also, the idea is really cool! It feels kinda weird that every level ends up with a 100 years old dude marring a young woman, but... oh well. I'm sure it's for love.

Like the small touched that weren't necessary, but are simply beautiful. They make feel the game that more well rounded and polished, like the dude's portrait ageing while you play.

Overall, great work!

kodiqi 2017-08-07 00:39

This is a pretty polished game, as you would expect from a team-made entry. I really like the idea of splitting the puzzle up into 4 sections, it really captures the idea of having to balance the different areas of one's life. There is maybe a bit of a disconnect between the pixel art portraits (which are great) and the playable area; they are both good but clash a little in style, a minor nitpick. The music and transition jingles are lovely and charming.

The levels are paced well and nicely designed, I could see you adding some story to this and expanding it into a full game. I enjoyed playing this, one of my favourite games so far really. I scored this well in everything aside from theme, as it was just swapped in place of time as a resource (which I assume you would swap back if releasing this outside of LD).

christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-07 05:54

Ok, wow. The game design was excellent!!! Very good pacing, very cute premise, the music was great. The gatekeeping kept me on my toes and it got complicated (and clever) really fast <3 I loved it!

I'd have liked for the woman to age as well ^-^ Right now it feels like she does nothing with her life until he gets all his goals. But I get that it's a metaphor :D

nuthen 2017-08-08 07:14

I like the game mechanics a lot! Although I wasn't a fan of the art. The mix between pixels and digital art was odd. The hardest level for me was Savings - it took me 30 minutes to beat.. but I really enjoyed playing this game! Great spin on the "controlling multiple characters at once" idea.

pedro-miranda 2017-08-08 10:54

What a nice game! And I love the approach you guys gave to the "running out of power" theme. Nice graphics and great sound. Good job guys!

tomahawk2001913 2017-08-08 16:48

This is one of the most unique games I've seen in this competition! I hope to see you expand on the idea in the future!

estebe 2017-08-08 19:12

Very original game. I've never played anything like it! A complete game too with everything that it needs. Graphics, sounds, music and mechanic. Good team effort, though procreating at age 108 is a little weird...

prodigalson 2017-08-08 19:37

Neat idea and the aesthetics changing as time passes by is a very nice touch. Well done!

cnoble 2017-08-09 12:00

That was an awesome game! Neat aesthetics, good/fitting music, nice puzzles, and a great little concept! Excellent job for a jam!!! Keep up the great work!! :)

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-09 17:49

Really oe=riginal and fun idea, with neat graphics and music. Controlls could be a little better, but are not bad. One of the best games I've played so far. Awesome Job!

mastersmith98 2017-08-09 22:39

This is a great entry! You could have easily made a very punitive puzzle game in which there was one solution, but you managed to make the level open enough to allow the player to solve it their own way. A fun little mechanic that I would love to see expanded upon in a full release. Great work!

alwaysinbeta 2017-08-09 23:59

Brilliantly crafted all round. Favourite entry so far. Had a lot of fun playing it. Thanks!

eggshelldog 2017-08-10 10:51

I love the concept of your game! I think it bring out some positive message! Time is money! However, there are lots of other things that more worthy than money for you to spend time! For example, GIRLS! ummmmmm, I mean knowledge! Yes, knowledge is more important than money!:smirk:

Anyway, really enjoy your game, great job!

mato26 2017-08-10 18:14

Awesome idea :)

mspawa 2017-08-11 00:57

I really like the way you interpret the main theme, it is very original and I love the concept of the game. It is hard to keep an eye on every screen but I was able to do it and had a lot of generations of childrens xD Really good work!!

elmismopancho 2017-08-11 13:29

Really excellent game, I love puzzle games and I'm a fan of HIMYM so this was right in my alley. The gameplay makes sense, and is really polished. The music and the graphics are all very nice. Two recommendations: - Knowing how many levels are left to finish the game would be nice. When you are reviewing a lot of games, time is really important. - At first I was a bit confused on how to unlock the walls. The fact that the money is green and there are green walls made me think that you need money to unlock green walls. Perhaps using other colors would help with this.

badly-drawn-rod 2017-08-13 19:33

I like how the puzzler had you solving multiple mazes at once. I haven't seen something like this before; very original.

jason200101 2017-08-15 18:01

The game seems nice! It is original in multiple aspects, and the puzzles were nice too! The music was great, the graphics could use a little bit more work, but other than that I have no negative feedback to give! Well done!

joe-cowman 2017-08-17 00:46

Best game I've played yet! A mechanic I've never seen before, also unique style. I loved it!

gonutz 2017-08-19 08:20

Wow, really cool puzzle game so far, I am going to beat it after writing this, I'm in the Savings level and it is a hard nut to crack for me right now, but I am going to finish this game, even if it takes me another 3000 years :-)

I love the music and art stlye, it really fits together, the graphics are cute and so is the music. Although the graphics are very minimalistic, this is all you need for this puzzle game. The simple graphics do not obstruct the game play, the UI and instructions are very clear, the game tells you exactly what you need to do, this is very good, I did not have to look at your game page at all, everything is just clear.

I like your puzzle design, it starts out simple with plenty of head room to waste a couple of turns and still win the level, but then it gets tougher and you really have to think carefully about your next step and keep in mind all four paths that you will take. Really nice difficulty curve.

I will be back after finishing the game and complete this comment :-)

bloodjohn 2017-08-19 19:02

the music fits the theme of the game. original campaign setting. an interesting puzzle game. I would make the conditions softer that in the beginning not so often to lose. I like it.

gonutz 2017-08-20 09:20

Alright, so the Savings level is still a really hard nut to crack. I am going to rate your game now because it still keeps me going and try to solve that puzzle, this is a really nice puzzle design. It does not get frustrating, it is just fun to play!

pitpony 2017-08-20 10:13

Really unique concept and its works very well. I love the different boards representing different aspects of life. I think my only comment would be that the power bar, as far as I can tell, just maps to the age so could probably be combined with the age counter so that its clearer. Really great job though! well done.

cubeeo 2017-12-07 01:24

Nice game.
