LD39 — Running out of Power

HackOS by stevenjmiller 2017-08-03T20:42:38Z

Reminded me of the puzzle games I played throughout my childhood in miniclip, armorgames and many more. You really managed to find a good mechanic and also excelled at level design and story.

First of all: well done! I liked the head throwing mechanic however only being able to throw in a straight line made it hard. Maybe make it so that you throw where the cursor points. You could also add a mechanic where you can steal the body of the npcs with the head. Having to get back your head after getting damaged was a nice touch.

Soporific: A Bedtime Story by paracatgames 2017-08-03T01:18:53Z

Amazing art. The game hasn't done anything when I press the go to sleep button. Other than that if voiced and better stories are added could be made an app for toddlers being a new form of choose your adventure.

Wizard's wrath by nodex 2017-08-02T19:42:34Z

I wish you had used something other than children and adults to gain or lose mana: it is really confusing at first and I had to read after playing to read what was going on. Maybe fairies as kids and ghosts as adults? The lightning strike looked like spraying water at first so I tried to cast it to kids to stop them from burning  . The sprites were well done but I think you forgot to add collision to the wells but it was just unimportant detail.

Pain That Binds Us by Jungle 2017-08-03T00:51:47Z

Great storytelling which is something most of the other Ludum Dare games lack. One of the best games to convey powerlessness. The music and audio complemented the game.

Gain Quest: The Art of Muscle by Devastus 2017-08-02T19:34:46Z

Really polished game but a tutorial as you said with a personal trainer would make it easier becuase reading it takes some time to read what to do at the start and you get damaged by then. The only other thing missing was squats as you don't want to have chicken legs .

Space Dog by Thygrrr 2017-08-02T03:28:45Z

Will we see the good boy in a FTL style adventure? It looks like an AAA studio entered the jam when you are only 4 people. There is just one little problem: I threw the radioactive rods out of the ship at the start thinking they were a hazard and then failed to use the reactor.

Spacy adventure by egordorichev 2017-08-02T19:48:56Z

One of the few games that feel complete and finished but as others said the background movement is really distracting and makes you confuse bullets with the background.

How I Met Your Great Great Grandmother by PeachTreeOath 2017-08-04T16:27:45Z

Good idea but maybe start with 2 maps and gradually increase the size as it is really hard in the beginning.

Eomro by Bookworm31 2017-08-02T03:00:14Z

When I played the game it lagged terribly. I think the number of trees was the cause of it. The cameras draw distance was too small so hills and buildings appeared into view from nowhere. Talking was working for me. The aesthetic reminded me of elder scrolls 2. Are the maps randomly generated because everytime I started the game there was a different map? It is really impressive that you have managed to create a game from scratch because it had: random map generation, character controller, mouselook, AI, dialog, spell particles and many more that I probably missed.

Pajama Man and The Spooky Cave by xero560 2017-08-02T03:10:53Z

Was really scared when I fell into a hole and there were two ghost right above my head. The combination of 3d and 2d looked pretty good, making the walls of the cave nearly pop of the screen. I didn't understand why the file size was that big.

Escape! by Damoy 2017-08-01T20:08:44Z

I unzipped the game and when I try to start it gives the Java error Unsupported major.minor Version 52.00 and a bunch of function names.

Lantern by Kaban 2017-08-03T01:10:01Z

You know how to make a scary atmosphere! Probably will win the mood category.

Exponential Maintenance Engineer by nintendoeats 2017-08-02T02:41:03Z

Nice game! Reminded me of katamari damacy. I was wondering how have you made the physics behave like that?

Rats will kiss the gunner's daughter by Mr.Houdini 2017-08-02T18:28:45Z

It looks like you were inspired by Papers Please. This game has great potential to become as popular as papers please if you add some more mechanics and more situations. For example it can start by small things like finding who stole the food from the cellar and ending in mutiny according to how have you treated the crew. Or choosing where to go next and having choices like attacking a ship and it failing making your crew think badly about you. It is also one of the most polished and fun game I have played so far.

Writer's Block by TobiasBruch 2017-08-03T20:20:40Z

You should increase the shadow quality as it is really pixelated. Also the red stuff is hard to see maybe you can make it more visible. Nonetheless its an interesting game.

Flastronaut by Bill Zeng 2017-08-02T02:46:52Z

The turning of the text to green in tutorial is something I never saw before and was pretty clever. The character seems adorable and the art style was really cartoonish and well made.

You Are Mech by Captain Laserstorm 2017-08-01T20:13:15Z

You must upload a zipped folder of both the .exe and the generated _Data folder for others to play the game in windows. The _Data folder should be in the same place as the generated .exe by Unity.

Cheetah Power by shabap 2017-08-01T18:58:11Z

Thanks @shinmera it was my first time building a game for PC so I didn't know that. I think I fixed it now.

Cheetah Power by shabap 2017-08-02T02:14:34Z

Thanks a lot guys. I'm really sorry for those who tried to eat and died because they coudn't. As many of you said there is a bug that makes eating impossible. I fixed it many times but there seems to be a problem with instantiated objects and triggers in Unity. @xero560 thanks for your review I haven't rigged the cheetah just modified an existing tiger model textured it crudely and animated it. I haven't animated the gazelle I was lucky to find a model with preexisting animations by luck. The number of gazelle decreases each day but I made the first days plentiful because they are hard to see and trees can be mistaken for them which would be less fun. @thygrrr thanks for your in depth review. I'm sorry I knew nothing about Unity audio and didn't have time to learn about it in the jam. @artur-hawkwing I'm really happy that you said it was the best you played. The game is not really 3d as the cheetah can't go up slopes or move up and down other than jumping because the default unity character controller is more suited for humanoid characters and writing a character controller would be a lot of work. @anudin initially when you jumped I placed an trigger in the paws of the cheetah and it would only catched the prey when it touched it. However it was extremely hard with the speed cheetah was moving and the random movements of the gazelle. So I made the hitbox pretty big to ensure that everyone was able to catch a gazelle in a short playthrough. I tried to make the gazelle move zigzaggingly as seen in the documentaries but it turned out to be fleeing towards the cheetah.
