pretty confusing at first, but it's still a nice game you made!

pretty confusing at first, but it's still a nice game you made!
Quite unique concept, but took me a while to understand whats going on. Love the visuals too, Good job!
Overall, it was a really well put together game. Though the pixel art font was really hard on my eyes. Nonetheless, once I understood what to do, it was actually pretty fun. The music was awesome!
Unique and refreshing! The audio was soothing.
This is really polished for a game made in such a short time span.
Really good job. Congratulations! And good luck :)
I liked this game. I think I was quite eager to find the bad guy... even if I failed.
Wew the last part they all join dark side~ Nc one, did't expect the them goes with captain losing his power as a captain~
oh noes, I'm sleeping with the fishes!
I really liked the overall mood of the game! I guess the music helps a lot. Very nice game. And I guess I'm not a good captain, nor I am a good detective. At least I like fishes... x)
Thank's for the reviews! Could anyone beat the game (without aleatory guessing)? Don't forget to write down the information you aquire from the sailors!
*There is an extra point question... where is this ship from?
Really awesome game, well done. I love these kinds of process-of-elimination games, although I did feel like I didn't always have enough to go on. Playing a few more times may solve that. This reminds me quite a lot of card games like The Resistance and Avalon. Nice work!
Great graphics and great music! A bit hard to deal with all the lies and misleading information. Great concept.
Very good! I really like the overall mood of distrust and deception in this game.
This is really cool! Great concept and executed very well with fitting art, music and writing.
Apparently I'm a bad judge of character though, taking a saltwater nap now.
Really like the overall concept and the artwork is fantastic. I didn't find the mutineer. I felt like everybody was lying to me! A very simple and effective exercise in making a player feel paranoid and distrustful.
I got it first try! Never trusted that guy to begin with! Awesome game, loved every second of it!
Really good concept, art and sound ! I liked the feeling of playing this game :D
Really like the concept. It's a good take on the theme and the art and music are very good. Congrats
Nice game! I like that there's an option for another language, unfortunately there's still a few texts missing in the Català version (most notaly the hints and the questions asked each day). The storytelling is very solid, it did seem as if the sailors where having each their own life (Poor Lil-Timmy, he's not the brightest and I presume he's also blind...). The art and audio were also very well done.
I love it when singers sing in their own language in Eurovisión, so make sure to finish translating it to Català, there needs to be more games in every language!
When I started in windowed mode, there were some buttons offscreen to the top right that I couldn't reach and that weren't there when I entered fullscreen.
I soon found out they were the language select, and that the spanish(I'm not good at languages so just guessing, sorry) option was a fair bit incomplete, with a lot of placeholder text and UI issues. Only the sailors' speech wasn't English. Once I restarted the game and booted into full screen I was able to continue in English.
On the first day, every sailor except Vaugr told me that the mutineer was Vaugr. All 4 of them. I wanted to end the game there and execute Vaugr, but after a couple minutes of random clicking around the room I wasn't able to find such an option. The game did continue to scold me for not making up my mind soon enough though, so maybe I was missing something.
So for the next 4 days I dutifully clicked through all the text, giving a light reading to each to make sure I didn't miss some major plottwist where everyone BUT Vaugr was conspiring against me. They weren't; Vaugr was the mutineer. So until the last day, I spent all my gold on making Vaugr's life miserable. I would send a bully out to beat him up before he came in, just to make sure he had all the reason in the world to hate me. I even bribed some of his shipmates to encourage distrust. And then I killed him.
I really wish I could have the option to kill him earlier. The bulk of the time I spent playing this game was a bit pointless, with no real deduction to do or particularly amusing text to read (The writing isn't bad, but it tries to communicate information more than it does entertain, so when I didn't need any information it was a bit moot). Or maybe you could've spent the first 4 days trying to figure out who can be trusted and what sort of social structure exists on the ship (maybe manipulating that structure?), with the "who's the mutineer" question only appearing on the last day, to keep the player in suspence.
As it stands, the game's reasonably pretty, with some interesting mechanics and a very solid aesthetic. I wish I could've enjoyed my time with it more, because the effort and polish you put in really shows.
P.S. - the song you play as the backdrop to the intro and main game has been bugging me for years. Literally years, because for the life of me I can't find which of Bach's pieces it is. So please, save me from that misery and tell me what that music is.
Fantastic entry! I really liked the art style; I thought it worked very well for setting a pirate-esque atmosphere (I promise I'm not biased :D) and the music was very soothing and didn't get in my way when I was thinking about my decisions which is all I can ask of it in a game like this. The gameplay was quite simple, but surprisingly engaging as it had me put quite a bit of thought into my interactions with the sailors. At the end of the day I executed the wrong man, but still it was a very fun ride while it lasted. Overall, a rather fun and impressive entry!
10/10 for a jam! Just the menu font is a bit weird, it can be confused with the background, but everything else is so enjoyable. NICE JOB!
Really fun game, I got it wrong at the end but I loved the art style and the concept of the game. I'd love to see some updates on this game because I would totally pay for something like this
It was a lot of fun. I hadn't expect that i would be so absorbed by the game. Audio and graphics are cool too. An excellent entry, especially for a 3-day jam!
@amras0000 thank you for your loooong explanation. It is really an honor to have your attention and dedication. Thanks for all the comments, we (the team) are reading it and discussing it.
There are some things to comment. The Català version (our natal language) is not ready and shouldn't be enabled. It appears in a windowed mode(we are building the game again to fix this bug. *Shame* on us because we didn't test the windowed mode). Sorry for the inconvinence.
It is hard to balance a game like this, so there is the possibility of knowing who the mutineer is the first round. We recommend you to start a new game. The names and aspect (face, head and body) of the sailors change every time you play. You won't know who the mutinner is the second time. Accept our apologies.
The music is a version of Johann Sebastian Bach's *The Little Fuge*. I'm a huge fan of his work so we decided to use it for the game.
WOW so beautiful!!
WOW I gotta say it, the art is just amazing! Congratulations on doing such a great game in just 3 days! I really enjoyed playing it, and could figure out who was plotting against me :)
Bon joc nois!

Excellent! I absolutely loved this. Loved the art style and it was all so polished. Loved little details too like the guy with 2 eye patches haha. I got the culprit in the end due to my keen observations! Really great work, thoroughly enjoyed it!
It's excellent !!! I love it ! and good choice of treatment for the theme and the graph !
I love multiple choice games and this game is awesome! I had a lot of fun playing it. It's just perfect. Keep it up!
Great concept and artwork ! It's nice to play some well polished games too. Good luck with your entry.
Wow that's really impressive, a lot of work done there ! You can pride of this realisation guys. The design are really really good.
Really impressive game, the design is on point, the graphics and sound are great too. I really enjoy the detective esque mystery gameplay, kept me interested for a good long while even if i am terrible at it. I don't think there's anything i can fault you on really, apart from the difficulty but i think im just a bad player haha Great job!
Thank you **ALL** for your comments and support. It is overwhelming for us to have all this amazing comments and opinions. Even if we knew that ~~almost~~ everyone in Ludum Dare is constructive and peaceful, this is amazing.
We are analyzing all this aspects you are referring to, such as difficulty (which is more random than we want to). Maybe asking directly who the mutineer is, wasn't a good decision even if it is at the start of the game (when the player doesn't know who is lying). As @nerdyherbivore said in the comment below, choosing the question to make would be great, even if it would be so hard to balance.
We didn't expect that amount of people playing until the end. It is quite hard to retain a player more than 5-10 minutes, so **thank you** again!
Loved this game! I narrowed it down to 50/50 and just had to pick. It said I chose poorly, but I wish it displayed the correct mutineer (really one of my only complaints). The game play is interesting and I adore your twist on the theme. I will be playing this multiple times. I agree with some of the other comments that a "kill" option would be great if you already figured it out, but still being sure is good before murdering. :) I also would have likes to choose my question each day to change up the order. On the first day, I asked one of the more important questions. However, since I did not yet know my crew, I sometimes did not get answers (either they did not answer when asked politely or were offended by bribes). The first day I would have liked the option to ask something less crucial, like about who their friends were, while learning the best interrogation technique. Great art style and music!
Great game, I got the mutineer on my first try! I found the text a bit hard to read (on 1440p monitor dunno if that made a difference). I didn't actually see the "question you were asking" until the end, not sure if that was just me but I don't think it stood out enough. A lot of the hints suggested that I was going to get overthrown before the 5 days which made me feel I was doing "badly" and was gonna lose before I got to make the choice (Which AFAIK doesn't happen).
All in all, really good well rounded game, my team scrapped a similar idea on a spaceship about a mutiny but didn't feel we could make it work, glad to see a idea like that executed so well.
It looks like you were inspired by Papers Please. This game has great potential to become as popular as papers please if you add some more mechanics and more situations. For example it can start by small things like finding who stole the food from the cellar and ending in mutiny according to how have you treated the crew. Or choosing where to go next and having choices like attacking a ship and it failing making your crew think badly about you. It is also one of the most polished and fun game I have played so far.
The artistic part is spectacular. Really, I could spend hours just listening to Bach and watching the pixel art, congratulations! The gameplay, on the other hand, was a little shallow. I noted down the information, who would accept bribes, etc and got to the right answer in the first try. Still, I wasn't sure about how the game chooses the mutinee and the trust relations between the pirates even after considering that it should be a really simple algorithm. Besides that, I loved the theme and the mood of the game. Congratulations!
Haha succeeded at my first try. Wonderful entry, loved it. The graphics, the music, the dialogues, even the gameplay mechanics fit perfectly together. Loved the experience
A really cool point and click adventure, I was thoroughly entertained and I'm going to go back now for another go! One of my favourites I've seen so far. Super polished :D
Very polished game and the changing appearances and names help switch things up when you try again. I beat it on my second try and it was satisfying to find the real culprit after failing once.
Really nice, innovative game! I don't know of anything like it. Reading through the comments I gather that difficulty seems to be varying quite a bit. I haven't had any problem, the game had a good level of difficulty, with many people saying different things. For the last day I managed to figure out who needed some money to talk, and who needed some violence. That resulted in everyone saying the same one being the most loyal, except for the mutineer. Great, I killed the right guy!
Really nice entry, with good art and a nice music. An immersive and fun experience! Thanks for creating.
Edit: Only thing I don't like: the game was packed in a .rar instead of a .zip, so I had to go ahead and download a program just for unpacking. It was worth it, but still kind of a nuisance.
Interesting game, I liked piecing together the mystery and the clever twist on the theme. Given that the same personalities are used between games, I can see why you wouldn't reveal the true identity at the end. The art was pretty good overall, and I think the writing and use of Bach's music gave the game a great atmosphere. Keep up the good work!
(Couldn't help but notice the Westerosi map on the table...)
This was a great game! I liked the aesthetics (pixels in Unity—we've all been there) and I liked the procedurally-generated characters. I never caught the mutineer though!
very nice! i liked the graphics and the music, and it was an interesting concept with unique characters. my one complaint would maybe be that sometimes the pixel font was difficult to read. very impressive in such a short time though, good job! :^)
Wow, just wow, awesome game, with creative idea and interesting gameplay. Graphics are just epic, music is awesome and creates really nice mood in the game. It seems to be very polished and well made. Great Job!
A great and unique entry! I replayed a couple of times to figure out the mutineer. Even though appearance and names are randomised, personality archetypes seem to follow a set pattern. If you know what to look out for, you'll know immediately which is the mutineer.
It took me some time until I actually know what to do(yeah I am slow =p), but when I figure it out could enjoy a fun game, extremely creative, definetely very unique, the art is beautiful, and there is one solid story, different than what we are used to see on ludum dare, great game
The depth of this game is astonishing for the time frame of its creation. I failed the game, and I have no idea how the character relationship system works, but it feels really natural and realistic. The visuals and audio are top-notch and feels professional. Great work!
Very polished game that executes and innovative idea wonderfully. The art is beautiful (although the font a little hard to read, but still nice) the music is pleasant to listen to while people conspire my murder and the sound effects are very good. The mechanic of limited coins per day was cool and it was fun trying to work out what choices might better affect my crew. As a whole, a very polished entry that was very good fun!
A really cool and well-executed concept.
[spoiler] It was really funny when I punched little timmy to ask him if he was lying and he said "Why would I lie to you when you treat us so well" haha
I enjoyed finding a traitor though it seemed a bit difficult because of a number of facts. The art style is cool, and there's this tension on days 4-5 which I'd like to reinforce even more. Thanks for the game!
Wow ! Nice Job, the dialog system are the best of the game.
Wow, you guys did fantastically with this one! The concept is fantastic, and although you've spotted some flaws in your design (such as the first question), I think you've done extremely well considering the 72-hour time limit. Personally, I'd just love to be able to see who the mutineer was - I was torn between two crewmembers, and it would have been nice to see if the one I hadn't chosen was the correct one.
Altogether, you should be very happy with the final result - you did a wonderful job with the art and music, and the writing is top-notch. Well done!
I had a lot of fun with this. I played it three times... and figured it out all three times! Thankfully, reading through the comments, it looks like a bunch of people struggled with it, so there's probably a good amount of challenge there. (I've been a puzzle-solver all my life.)
The graphics were good, and the art of the pirates was very humorous to me. I felt really bad about using force, so I was careful to only use it when I felt it was necessary. Seemed to work out for me.
Good job on such a nicely-polished game. This has been one of my favorites so far.
I did not beat it but i enjoyed it a lot. The old school graphics are spot on. I might try again soon.
We streamed your game with Danae plays on Twitch. :) Here's a link:
[Danae streams Ludum Dare 39: Day 1, part 1: Rats will kiss the gunner's daughter](https://youtu.be/4KfQtLDzK-g?t=50m24s)
Interesting concept. Sadly on stream we completely failed to take notes properly so we didn't get the mutineer :D But I can see the appeal of a logical puzzle of this sort, where the player has to figure out who is lying and how to ask the pirates appropriately. The graphics were also very nice and funny (although serious pet peeve: mixing pixels of different sizes, makes it look a lot worse than it could have been!), and the music appropriate. Very well done!
An interesting game, that is really well made and polished. However I found the font difficult to read, which is annoying as the game mostly relies on the text.
Very interesting game. Really liked the mood and art style. The gameplay concept is very nice too. Congratulations to the team
Very interesting game. Really liked the mood and art style. The gameplay concept is very nice too. Congratulations to the team
Interesting little concept. Is the idea they tell you who the mutineer is on the first day because they're still loyal? Cause that seems to be the pattern. Excellent art.
I like the game for its look&feel. Took a few Trys to get the hang of it.
Please play, rate and comment our game aswell: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/disaster-on-nebula-one
Well done guys!
Great graphics, amazing music, rewarding gameplay. I sacrificed half of my nootebook to find the rat, I got him at the end and It felt really good!
Thank you for the experience!
Unfortunately I cannot play your Windows 64 bit game on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?
It only took me maybe 30 seconds to read the instructions on the ldjam page, and again inside the game. I wasn't confused at all and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out who the mutineer might be. I was able to completely rule out 3 people and it came down to an educated guess, of which I was correct! The sounds and visuals are great and the music is nice, although maybe a bit loud. This was one of the most fun and polished games I've played so far!
Cool and fun game! I always liked pirate theme and this game hasn't disappointed me. I didn't succeed in it, but i liked the concept. It has a future!
Didn't get the mutineer the first time as I tried to figure it out the hard way, evaluation all the answers. Then I hatched a theory: how 'bout simply trusting their answers to the direct question on day 1?
So I played three more times, each time bribing the bribable looking person and manhandling the snitch looking fellow on day 1. Then I skipped the rest of the days by spamming the neutral question button, not reading any of the answers.
Every single time the person who got the most votes on the first day turned out to be the mutineer... You might just have a bit of an issue here.
I second @amras0000's suggestion of asking the direct question last. Why wouldn't you do that as the captain? That is when you've figured out who is the stern sailor type, who is the snitch and who likes money. Apparently you don't even need to know any of that, but you get the point.
The graphics, audio and mood are great, *so it is not all bad!* In fact it is mostly not bad; I'm being facetious.
Oh my! Is this a competition game? Because it seems like an Steam Greenlight one! Good job guys. I really dunno what to say, I like every detail in this game, keeping in mind that all of that was made in 72 hours. Love it! :sailboat:
By the way, guessed a mutineer from the first try! And this made me smile.
Usually these types of games are either too convoluted to deduce anything, or too obvious to be any fun. I think you managed to hit a sweet spot. Nice work!
For 4 days I was like oh god, I have no idea how I'm supposed to figure this out, I must be missing something. It finally clicked on the last day and I caught the contradiction and I think I deduced it correctly and it felt fantastic. Love the presentation, I really like alternative UI games, and needless to say the graphics are superb. Overall a great change of pace from the rest of the crop of games!
I can't rate since I didn't take part in the jam, but this is my favorite so far!
Cool game! Must. Complete. It!!))
I liked the innovation, I was unable to find the mutineer, but that's ok. the font being hard to read was kinda a bummer. Would have loved voice overs. or at least some pirate sfx. argh or something. I was really surprised that there wasn't more pirate humor, or maybe it just wasn't that funny to me. more dramatic and moody. The graphics were good and it was fun. Great job with the characters. It was fun!
Cool - looks like you got a lot of well deserved attention. Great concept and I like the puzzle aspect. The varied responses to each days question and tying them all together must have been a challenge. I didn't have any problems other than that for some reason the first clicks on just about anything paused a bit before reacting, after which it was never a problem. Thanks for submitting!
I love puzzle games so i gobbled this one right up, the idea of interrogation was super fun. Side note: The icon is amazing, seriously nice looking, as are the graphics in the game.
Nice take on the theme, my team and me also debated around a social understanding of the word "power". I'd like the character art to be a little bit more polished, but we all know there's not time. The background art, and specially the captain's desk and Red Skull were great!
What a beauty! Loved it. I don't usually like these decision-based kind of games but really enjoyed this one. Took notes on my notebook and got the mutineer on the first try! Music is probably it's biggest strength, but everything else just fits perfectly aswell.
Cool entry, and I got the mutineer on my second try!
The atmosphere was great! The story, graphics, and audio went together perfectly!
Excellent, moody entry which requires your brains and your intuition!
Likes: - great interrogation logic puzzle - funny characters that I still can't fully grasp - great graphics - overall wonderfully designed game screens - nice music piece - totally ace game title :)
Challenges: - it's a bit spammy to read at times. Could this work with just 4 days?
Overall: - a prime entry that stands out on many fronts - definitely an unique puzzle experience.
Unfortunately I cannot play your Windows 64 bit game on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?
@gonutz Now there is available a 32 bit version.
**Update Note:** - Now it is possible to see the results of the game: who was the mutineer (in case you lose) and who were all the members of your crew (if you succeed).
- The player can choose to execute a sailor anytime in the game, so you don’t have to wait 5 days if you know who the mutineer is.
- We’ve changed the font. The new one is quite a bit more readable.
- This new build works at both 32 and 64 bit computers.
- We have removed the unfinished language option.
- We have correctly set the game icon.
This is an extra update post-jam, so remember it doesn’t have to affect on your ratings!
Found the font to be hard on the eyes, and it would have been nice for the "note taking" aspect of the game to be actually integrated into the game itself, but you can only do so much during in such a short time. Overall I really admired what you guys were able to do. Great entry!
With the update, this game is an absolute joy to play. The logic aspect of it (if you don't try to game the system too much) is a lot of fun - and they weren't kidding when they say you need a notebook. The polish put into the game, especially from the art side of it, was incredible. I really can't exaggerate how nice the artwork is, and how clear the function of everything on the screen is.
The major note I have for improvement is the music. It's supposed to be a tense, paranoid game (and it succeeds with that in most aspects), but the music doesn't reflect any growing paranoia. Bringing in some more instrumentation near the end would be a really nice touch.
Also, a minor thing: when the text is being written, when it reaches the edge of the box, it hops down to the next line. It was a little distracting.
An amazing effort all around!
Thery COOL! Love narrative in game.
That [spoiler]! I always knew he was up to no good! This was a good entry: polished, good music, nice little pirate speeches, and a consistent graphical style. Very good.
Amazing art. Nice music. Congrats.
Very nice game ! I love the idea, it is well executed. Graphics and audio are very nice. I failed but I will definitely try again soon, congrats !
Very nice game! The graphics were nice, the music was great, the story was well thought and the fact that it is always random, with random characters and names, and a different mutineer each time gives this game a ton of replay value!
I don't have any negative feedback! This game looks solid! Well done!
Very neat! I didn't write anything down when I played, and I was sweating when I came to the last few days...but my hunches were right!
This actually has a lot of depth to it, though I feel like during the 4th (?) day pretty much nobody was ever useful...
I'm confused as to whether to rate you for Audio or not. Did you use 3rd party audio assets? I recognize the piano arrangement.
You came with a concept well designed with established rules and it works! The player know what to do and everything is understandable.
Graphics are quite good, I like the generation of characters that makes them look sometimes suspicious even if they've done nothing haha
I think I found a typo (on the updated version) there was "desicion" instead of "decision", if I remember well it was at the beginning.
The game is quite hard but balanced so it give s enough control to the players to make their own choices.
Good job!
You've got some pretty sweet pixel art there.
Clever use of the theme and liked how much dialogue and character you were able to get into each pirate. Made replaying that much nicer. Was able to find the mutineer first go so was quite proud of myself for figuring out some of what was being said to me and the choices I was making with the coins. The art was great and worked well in making the game friendly to play.
Gorgeous pixel art. Text quest is a little confusing for me. I always have problems in the game with unclear rules. But I enjoyed the atmosphere and dialogue. Will play this game again, when I have time.
Per desgracia no tinc Windows per jugar-lo. De totes formes visualment fa molt bona pinta. Good Job! 👍
Very nice game, very innovative, I have not seen a game like this around here!
At the end I had two equally likely suspects and chose the wrong one so I ran out of power this time :-)
Nice that I can see the results at the end, I needed the certainty ;-)
The graphics are awesome, really interesting characters.
The music fits the theme and atmosphere of the game well.
I like the game play idea, gathering clues and making the one important decision in the end, this is really cool.
Overall a very well done game, great job!
