LD39 — Running out of Power

Achluophobia by Ajayajayaj 2017-08-02T04:23:45Z

Neat little concept. First time I played I started just running to the right. But the terrain must auto-generate or something because I just kept going lol. Stuck around the generator and charger the second time and had a little more fun ;)

Power Plant Manager by Josh6680 2017-08-05T00:22:01Z

Ah dang I wanted the world to implode when I got too many of the highest power tower. Pretty nice little upgrade game. Took me a bit to figure out how to supply the nuclear power plants with enough water. Nice work!!

Outside by gelisam 2017-08-05T19:36:05Z

Lol I had to check the comments to make sure it was solvable. Excellent puzzle!

Galvanica by icxon 2017-08-04T23:53:07Z

Freaking brilliant! The moment I took off my pants to make it the final distance home was the moment I gave you a perfect review. This is probably the best game I've played so far. The attention to detail in what appears to be a simple concept is just outstanding.

Fade by glimaleite 2017-08-05T01:01:00Z

Great story telling and atmosphere. Sometimes simple mechanics told in a specific way are just that much more powerful. Nice work.

Flip The Switch by madalaski 2017-07-31T16:40:51Z

Once I figured out what was going on, it was pretty fun. Although it wasn't too tough to come up with a strategy that very quickly "won" the game. (I did a target shape with switch surrounded by batteries surrounded by pylons surrounded by turrets). Figuring out that pylons could power other pylons was pretty cool. And I *think* one of my pylons was actually re-powering the button? At one point I didn't have to click anymore lol

Perhaps a cost-based placement system would help make the player not so overpowered? Other than that the story was interesting. Nice work!

Supernode by Dustyroom 2017-08-14T15:12:37Z

Loved this. A really well put together real-time puzzler. Excellent work!

Computer Crisis by PixelFormedStudios 2017-07-31T16:04:49Z

This was hilarious! Awesome work! The comedic timing of that pong game was perfect lol.

Recapitate by superpokeunicorn 2017-08-05T04:57:42Z

Cool concept. I think if some of the platforming was tweaked to be a little faster you might have a decent thing on your hands. Music got a little repetitive but tis the nature of game jams. Nice work!

Take my charge by josehzz 2017-08-05T05:04:56Z

This game has a really polished nice aesthetic. A simple concept but executed really well with some existential thought to boot :) Good job!

Asteroids by MianaGames 2017-08-01T16:31:42Z

I really liked that the movement relied on momentum rather than being instant stop/go. Makes it feel more like space :)

Yet Another Exhausted Day by Gao Ming 2017-08-05T03:21:49Z

Lol this is great. Some of those levels are suuuuuuper tight to get through. Nice work!

Solar Snoop's Star Trek by tweedle 2017-08-05T05:08:23Z

A simple concept, but the polish and execution is top tier. Nice job!

Gain Quest: The Art of Muscle by Devastus 2017-08-05T00:04:40Z

Another perfect score! Freaking amazing. The sit-ups got a little borked at the end where I could only hurt myself, but other than that this was super fun all the way through! Excellent work!

Running Voltgun by sinclairstrange 2017-08-03T03:40:40Z

This is absolutely incredible how much quality content you managed to pack in such a short amount of time!! It feels like a genre child of sonic and metal slug (a great combo by the way). I'll need to find some time to play all the way through this one!

PutOuter by ginger9 2017-08-03T06:11:29Z

Pretty interesting. I never ended up using the "return power" ability, so perhaps some puzzles could have been designed around that? Other than that, a decent entry.

Ghost in the Machine by bmacintosh 2017-08-02T06:28:02Z

Man this is a really polished entry. I wish I had someone to play it with as controlling both robots hurt my brain :P Great job!!

Tiny Warlock by bwalter 2017-08-05T04:24:09Z

If I could find myself in all of the carnage, I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more. I pretty much had no idea where I was what I was doing most of the time :D Nice aesthetic though!

Keep 'Em Alive! by mrerdalural 2017-08-04T15:33:31Z

I very quickly realized I didn't care about 5 of the people. Keeping one alive was much more manageable ;) Great entry! The shooting sometimes felt like it wasn't working, and it wasn't obvious to me I had two shots until playing around a little. Also, the zombies seemed content continuing to eat a dead body, and I couldn't shoot them in a room, so... I just let them be my new pet zombies! :D

Infinitree by Quaternius 2017-07-31T18:14:31Z

Awesome work! The mechanic is simple but smart and you executed on it really well. Although my tree looked like it came out of the depths of hell lol.

Rocket Rescue by automatonvx 2017-08-05T05:12:32Z

Lol that guy has a little trouble getting off the ground ;) A solid entry. I always like jetpack style games.

Ministry of Synthesis by impbox 2017-08-05T02:48:40Z

The concept is super cool. The execution was done pretty well. After adjusting to the controls, I was able to hook things up pretty quickly and try out different things. I think I was pretty close to the end, but the three low pass filter level stumped me. Partially this was due to the fact that once I reached a certain "closeness" to the final wave, it just felt like a lot of guesswork and trying out all the combinations (and I understand how these things work!). I think there is a little bit of a disconnect between seeing a wave's visualization (or even hearing it) and being able to identify the oscillators/gates/filters used not to mention the order to use them. There *might* be a way to slowly build up the skill set to do this, but I think it would take a lot more carefully thought out intermediate levels. Anyways, mad props with this. I've never seen anything like it and thoroughly enjoyed my time.

Intrepid by Arkthalohs 2017-08-02T06:17:44Z

Oh man this was great! I don't think I understood the energy usage though because my first playthrough definitely left me with no energy lol. That explosion at the end though!! Love digital board games like this!

Running on the Power of Love by nervous-composers 2017-08-03T06:26:56Z

Ha that was cute. I feel like the gaming world needs more short simple experiences like this. Good job!

Don't be (the) patient by Sogomn 2017-07-31T15:44:20Z

Nice work with this! I really enjoy puzzle games like this. The connection to the theme was a little bit of a stretch but meh, the game is fun :)

Sky Sea by Zeriver 2017-08-03T03:00:01Z

Pretty interesting events. Gorgeous graphics! Love the low poly style.

Plug Busters by MattDahEpic 2017-08-01T03:45:19Z

Graphics and animations are gorgeous!! Although after getting through the first wave of dissatisfied tenants, it appeared like I could go on forever. Possibly add something that causes tenants to use power faster? Great entry! CIGDA represent!!

Flying Aces - Going the distance! by jotson 2017-08-03T02:46:31Z

I love how this game looks and plays. The faces on everything were adorable. Very polished execution on a simple idea. Great work!

StarAway by frogcheese 2017-08-05T05:40:39Z

This game is hilarious! A simple concept executed very well. Love the style. Great job!

Blocks of Power by mortus 2017-08-05T05:23:55Z

This reminds me of the board game Galaxy Trucker (which I really like). I've always liked the idea of piecing together "garbage" ships from scraps found around. This really scratches that itch. Amazing what you've accomplished in such a short amount of time. Excellent work!

Rolling out of power! by Willbl3pic 2017-08-05T19:23:47Z

Pretty simple concept, done well. I will say it might have been nice to have less abrasive sound effects if you're picking up blocks as fast as you are. Once it gets past a certain speed, it seems like largely luck as to avoiding anything after that.

Losing Power by D-Studios 2017-08-03T04:02:10Z

You a down-right devil with some of those spike jumps!! Simple concept done pretty well. A few tips: - The jumping would trigger even if I was holding jump button from the previous jump. I recommend only jumping when the player actually presses the button rather than when the buttons is down. - Those spike jumps were brutal lol if you're going for sadistic platforming that's fine, but not a lot of players appreciate pixel perfect jumps, just something to be aware of :P - I highly recommend picking a couple of youtube videos on how to write simple game music. They can give you some tips on how to get something a little more interesting to listen to (or something that just exists in the background that's less grating/noticeable).

Keep up the coding!

Wires and Robots by MiltonNH25 2017-08-03T07:17:08Z

There are some really good puzzles here. However, it took a sharp turn into "carefully avoid the spikes" which I wasn't as much a fan of. But to each his own. This is really well done, and you put together a lot of good levels.

Swamped by Gumboot 2017-08-02T07:26:24Z

Holy smokes this art is gorgeous. I think I would have not allowed the player to recover power after attacking as it makes the fighting a bit too easy in my opinion. I never felt like I was in danger of running out of power. That being said this is a solid entry!

Erebot by aevek 2017-08-02T06:35:07Z

Art is beautiful. I'm not sure I was a fan of the isometric paths with non-isometric movement, but adjusted to it well enough. Pretty simple concept but executed very very well. Nice work!

Pinch&scape by Guillaume Gomez 2017-07-31T22:38:10Z

Lol this probably the most work I've put in to try playing someone's game XD.

The game was interesting enough, although a bit simple at heart. Graphics were simple yet effective. Full points for innovation!!

Exodus: Fleet Commander by Saithir 2017-07-31T16:15:52Z

Not bad. I was a little confused as to whether I was getting fuel from scouting or not, and I got dumped to the start screen after jumping. The idea is interesting though if you had been able to flesh out some more of the ideas you had. Given that you had one less day, good work!

ROOP (Running Out Of Power) by Spetsdod 2017-08-02T07:09:49Z

Pretty basic concept, but fairly well done. I'm lousy at these type of games so I didn't get too far :P Great job!

Power Crystals by chispaLBC 2017-08-05T00:27:05Z

My poor wrist! Nice little entry. I might have picked a different sound effect for clicking, as hearing dinging over and over got a little annoying :P

Driving home by basweijenberg 2017-08-05T04:19:12Z

I remember doing this with my own imaginary characters... Good times. Groovy tunes! Not much gameplay, but this is a nice entry!

Losing Troops by Adtberp 2017-08-02T05:05:27Z

Pretty neat! I quickly realized I didn't have the mental capacity to manage different groups and just kept everyone lumped together lol. That last wave that killed me off was pretty brutal.

Climate Clicker by Burgee 2017-08-05T03:14:22Z

Not too shabby! Sims are always super hard given a time limit like this. I had fun just smiting things :D

Planetarium by Irishbruse 2017-08-05T19:28:57Z

A pretty simple concept, but done well. I almost got boxed in by those enemy ships a couple times. Seems like the right difficulty for the single level, but could definitely have benefited from more levels, or even a random spawn of a new goal once the previous goal was reached.

Unleaded: The Story of a Van by Lino 2017-08-02T06:51:44Z

Got bored after a few kilometers and started doing sick jumps!!! Seriously though nice work on a solid polished entry. The execution is top tier.

Power by KRP 2017-08-02T05:19:59Z

I really enjoyed this once I finally figured out how to play! Felt like a mad hacker trying to get my guys moving around where they needed to be. Nice work with this!

Professional Protesters by MartinTristan 2017-08-02T04:46:54Z

My wrist hates you. But in all seriousness, this was a neat little clicker. The graphics and dialog were charming, although the music sounded like it needed to be dialed back a bit in whatever audio software you used (gain was probably a bit high causing clipping buzzing). Good job!

Sparkman Adventures by Lamm 2017-08-03T03:48:55Z

Not sure how people don't think it fits the theme. You obviously only had so much power when shooting that you were running out of... *shrug* The jumping was indeed floaty/slippery to the point where I would jump right into a pit unintentionally XD. Graphics were a bit inconsistent, but I didn't notice as much since all of the "major" objects were the same style. It just didn't gel with the background as much. And the music sounded fine to me (although with such a short loop, it can get a bit repetitive. but 'tis the nature of a jam game :D) Good work!

Lights Out by Emery 2017-08-04T22:34:23Z

The Tardis lol. Nice work for a first jam game. The vertical camera movement was pretty jarring, and hitting the ceiling made jumping a little weird. But overall, great job!

Manual Mech by Mikeliosus 2017-08-02T05:39:33Z

This is really well done. The controls are super weird, but I think that was the intent: to make it feel as if you're at the control board for a mech. Took me forever to figure out how to jump forward lol. Nice work!

ODISSEUS by MarkWolf 2017-08-02T19:00:17Z

Nice cutscenes lol. The individual mini games were pretty good. I ended up being able to skip one of the planets on the path because I had just enough power :D Nice work!

Power House by OmnipotentIndie 2017-08-01T17:22:17Z

I love frantic arena shmup games like this. Awesome work! I felt like the balance between managing energy and battling was just about perfect.

Silicon Boulevard - A RoboNoire by ttocs167 2017-08-03T03:31:21Z

Pretty cool game. Love noire games. Execution was a little rough, but for a story this involved, that's probably justified :) Nice work!

Cannon Ships by chuckeles 2017-08-04T17:01:50Z

This was really fun. Having the window size affect difficulty was pretty interesting. I thought the graphics worked as a style. You definitely have to be moving around alot to dodge anything. Nice work!

Power Rancher by SeanW 2017-08-01T03:30:07Z

Nice game. As others have mentioned, I don't think there's any way to get past day 4 though... If the cost/demand curve was adjusted a bit more, I think this could be pretty good.

Rats will kiss the gunner's daughter by Mr.Houdini 2017-08-05T04:36:48Z

Usually these types of games are either too convoluted to deduce anything, or too obvious to be any fun. I think you managed to hit a sweet spot. Nice work!

Titan LD39 Compo by NamInUz 2017-07-31T23:16:53Z

The concept here is really cool. It's like shadow of colossus but you're controlling the giant robot! I'd say the difficulty curve is a touch steep, as I was never playing for more than a minute or so before getting overwhelmed with enemies. I like the graphics too.

Scrapjunk Couriers by reBTF 2017-08-03T06:23:06Z

Made it in 4 minutes 22.5 seconds! Took me a bit to figure out the grabby robot things were my repair and not the enemy hurting me. Pretty fun little game. Great concept that could be fleshed out more with additional systems like you intended.

Gemheart Hunter by Taffaz 2017-07-31T18:37:29Z

I really enjoyed this. I wish the gemheart drop rate was a little more frequent, but regardless you did really well with this. While I felt really powerful by getting all of the upgrades, it still felt difficult enough.

Also, it worked just fine on linux :)

Engolasters January 2021 by Deconstructeam 2017-08-05T01:18:55Z

The writing here was superb. The art and music were fantastic! Driving the truck was a little janky but psh I almost discovered ALIENS! Seriously though I was immersed through and through. Excellent work!

Energy Tanks by Saiony 2017-08-01T03:52:21Z

Impressive work! I thought I was doing well blasting the red guys and then got wasted by the giant blue guy lol. Gameplay is pretty simple but fun! A solid entry.

Mr. Blue by VitasaMode 2017-08-05T05:37:46Z

Cute idea! I love the animations so much. Simple game play but really well done!

Pura The Robot by Ramkey 2017-08-04T16:46:09Z

Some pretty good puzzles in this game. Narrator was funny. Pushing the blocks was a bit janky and made some puzzles more difficult than they should have been. Overall, nice work!

Mr Shoopashoop Is Not Very Smart by isolea 2017-08-02T05:30:32Z

I played the linux version and things were very choppy... Not sure if that's what other people are experiencing... The lights turned off really fast and jumping was almost impossible. As far as what I assume the game was intended to be played as: Pretty nice take on the theme. Although I'm not entirely sure I would have been able to make some of those jumps even if things were running smoothly.

Hoover Simulator by Rancoud 2017-08-05T19:38:24Z

A simple "clean" game ;) I will say, unreal spits out some massive executable sizes (almost 1GB?!) Especially for a game like this. Not that that's your fault, just a thing to consider when using an engine. That being said, nice work! Could have used some more levels.

SOMETHING IS WRONG. SOMETHING IS WRONG. SOMETHING IS WRONG. by Heather Flowers 2017-08-05T04:51:55Z

I really like the idea of having to find a solid colored object when the entire background is the same color. That part was very cool. However, I felt the tie to the theme was a little weak. Music was good for this game. The little ascii critters were neat too.

Pickup all the power! by acoto87 2017-08-02T04:35:44Z

Man some of those puzzles got tricky! Nice littler puzzler. As mentioned the tie to the theme is a little weak but meh it's a game jam. The audio sounds like it was made with one of those grid song generators haha. Pretty smart for something like ludum dare if that's what was used.

There's No Place Like Home by Remzo 2017-08-05T03:02:42Z

This was pretty nerve wracking! Beautiful art style too. Nice work with this.

Ocean Commotion by Porkeh 2017-08-02T04:52:15Z

Nice work! Can be difficult to get a good procedural engine going in the short amount of time, and this felt pretty good. Controls took a bit getting used to, but I actually liked the floatiness. Made it to the top once (although I could barely see at that point :D)

burnout. : a runner game about depression and the others by Tuxic 2017-08-05T04:45:13Z

Thought the mechanics delivered the message well. The only thing I might have done differently is have less upbeat music/sfx. Just to emphasize depression a little more. Well done!
