This is really nice for a first time entry. Nice job :D
As a first entry it is a cool game, some tips, the top platforms are almost unreachable because of the collision of the ceil, maybe put it a little higher, and also I didn't understand with what I was colliding, maybe a little bit of art like a ceil or something could solve that.
Good job mate!
Nice!
Good: * I loved looking out the windows. The aliens and the Tardis surprised me * I liked the change in atmosphere when the power dropped below 15%
To work on: * Colliding with the ceiling and not being able to reach the upper platforms * Batteries would spawn close by, so there was no real reason to move
Despite not so polished graphics, this actually has some style.
This was fun and a great first effort! I enjoyed watching all the random things float through the background. I'm not sure how long it took to add those little touches, but they make the whole experience so much better.
Suggestions: - I would have liked to see the camera a little more forgiving. You are always positioned at the bottom of the screen, so when you are climbing up near the ceiling you can't see anything down below. - I think that the batteries spawn in waves, so if you get a bad drop where the batteries spawn on the other side of the map you can't reach them before they are gone. Maybe if they appeared staggered it would lessen that.
Bugs: None found. Great job!
Nice, solid timed platformer. Occasionally there'd be long stretches where I couldn't find batteries at all. I'm assuming they were probably spawning on the far edges and disappearing before I go there. Definitely fun, and I enjoyed the backgrounds out beyond the windows.
It's a good game, I like the graphics and the idea, keep it in the same spirit
The menus are actually quite polished, perhaps too much, like the pause button was nice, but not really needed. in fact I think this is the first dedicated pause menu I've seen this LD. The player stood shockingly low on the camera. The art could use a little work. Great job giving it a shot though, its not easy to do and even harder to put out there for the world to see.
Idk why, maybe its my system, but the were some very harsh graphics glitches for me. Every once in a while I got a frame of some of the textures scaled irregularly rendered on to the camera. I read thru the comments and no one else is having this issue so I loaded it again, and while the issue still didn't go away I was impressed to see that the high score was saved in the player prefs. I was not expecting that.
That glitch aside. really its just the art and the camera that could be touched up on. I see the complaint about the ceiling, but after you hit your head once you learn. Adjusting the colors can help a lot when it comes to boundaries. The music was good! I liked the ship at the starting screen. Good job completing the game!
Fun game. I managed to last 100 seconds. The game play was decent and I enjoyed the backgrounds, with the TARDIS and Death Star floating past. I also liked how the screen would fade to black and the music would get quieter as the power ran out.
Sometimes there would be periods of time where I couldn't see where the batteries spawned because they spawned off screen. I also found the ceiling annoying when it would stop me from jumping onto the highest platforms.
Good game!
Nice game, I managed 146 seconds. The art is sinple but had a nice charm to it, I especially loved the details floating past in the background.
The idea is nice and pretty well executed. It's a bit annoying running back and forth to try and find a battery. Perhaps an indicator at the edge of the screen to tell you where it was would be useful. You could maybe lay out the level a bit more complicated or put in some traps or something to make it harder. At the moment it seems like after a point, its impossible to get enough power to keep going as they don't spawn enough.
Great first LD game though, keep it up :)
The walking animation is great and the screen getting darker after a time is also a good idea. But in my opinion maybe bit to early. It also feels a bit weird that the camera is too much above the player. And maybe it would be better if the player could jump through the platforms. I managed to stay alive for 138 seconds. Solid game for your first entry!
Awesome game! A very clear example of the theme. Art is simple and clean, though it could have been improved if all art was created consistently. Instead of combining two different styles of art, try to be consistent with one style. All in all, this is a great game for your first time. This is a great step up for your learning curve, understand what went wrong and improve on it. Anyways, congratulations!
I agree with the others, really solid first entry! (I only managed 132 seconds)
Great job and nice game! New Highscore? -> 192 seconds.
Cool game! The Tardis in the background was a cool easter egg :)
The art out the windows is 11/10. Super solid first jam game. Maybe the camera shouldn't move? It's pretty disorienting.
Pretty good for a first timer. The camera felt a bit awkward because the player character was at the bottom and you couldn't see what is below you. I liked all the little easter eggs you could see through the windows.
good game, the camera could be in the center, the character in the bottom make a little hard to move.
The Tardis lol. Nice work for a first jam game. The vertical camera movement was pretty jarring, and hitting the ceiling made jumping a little weird. But overall, great job!
Lasted 139 seconds before suffocating in the dark! Nice work on this. Definitely had me on the edge my my seat.
Positives: Particle Pickup FX! Nice sound, and music. Actually the music reminded me of syndicate from back in the day. Smooth controls!
Negatives: The camera I felt should allow more view of what's below, so when you collect on a high platform, you can see where to go next Perhaps the challenge scaling should be a little more forgiving. It seems like the the spawns just end up less frequent. Maybe instead make them just as frequent, but they are on screen for less time?
One other suggestion: I felt like the little guy was a little too happy for someone about to die in a dark spaceship. Maybe put a nervous face on him instead XD. O.o or make his face change to nervous/unhappy when low on power? I guess either way you'd be scared in that situation.
For a first entry, this is really a good job ! The mood is definitely fun, seeing all the details at the windows really made it fun to play. Like other people said, both the camera and the jumping (especially when hitting the ceiling) had little issues but nothing that made the game impossible to play. Keep up the good work !
I did not really like the concept, but the music and the background was very cool :) Liked the Tardis !
Congrats on your first LD, simple concept but fun enough. As already said would re position the camera and personally thought that although its nice to have a visual feedback that you are running low on energy, fading the screen to black stops you from seeing what you need to play, so maybe don't fade the whole screen or fade more gradually or use a different visual effect. Quite liked the music. Good job.
Pretty simple and concrete idea. I like screen become darker as an indicator of near-end. I wish camera to be a bit lower.
Good luck!
Good game! The theme is respected, graphics and animation are good and I really liked the music change when you're low on battery!
I would suggest you to move the camera a little bit so the player isn't too much on the bottom of the screen, it would help to make decisions faster and keep a better overall control on the situation :D
I like the things floating in space in the background. The game itself is in my opinion a bit boring as there is not much to do and most of the time you wait until new batteries appear. I also really liked the fact that the screen got darker the less energy you had left.
The fade-out effect when power is running low was an interesting effect, but it actually punished you when you're already in a dangerous situation, so its a little too hard on the player.
The basic gameplay is fine (aside from some collisions stuff), so the next logical step would be to spice things up a little with new levels iterating over the same mechanics.
Nice job finishing your first ludum dare game! ;D
Things floating in the background are nice, and the ambient depending on the power left is an interesting addition too. I would have liked to see the batteries at all times, or at least something indicating where will they appear, but if I imagine that the ship is too big and indicators consume power, that's ok :P.
Awww, no linux build? :-) I think unity can create it for you with a simple menu click!
The basic idea is not really revolutionary but I like how it gets darker when you're going to lose. Like many others already wrote the background is phenomenal, this really earned you 5 stars in the humor category. :D
What bothered me the most is the camera. It is hardly possible to see anything below you, so I stayed on the ground most of the time and I didn't have the feeling I knew the positions of only half of the batteries because they often spawned out of sight.
Maybe you can show the player the whole height and only scroll sideways?
In conclusion: I had fun playing your game and I'm already looking forward to your next entry. Congrats!
Playing as a young Peter Griffin was amazing
I liked how the lights dimmed.
The graphics stood out to me as not necessarily all matching - more specifically, I'm not sure that the character sprite really "fits" with the rest of the graphics.
The main problem insofar as gameplay is concerned is that the camera doesn't really let you see a lot, which makes the controls a lot harder to use.
I really like the atmosphere change during endgame. It's very cool.
I really enjoyed the background animations, with the alien, the TARDIS and so on - they were great and made me smile. I also liked how the screen became darker as your oxygen levels depleted. As for gameplay, running back and forth seemed to be the best way to get the batteries, and I found it tricky to get to some of the higher platforms but that's most likely my poor skill level.
