I really liked it but I noticed a few "Bugs": (1. If you go to the left of the start there's no collider to keep you from going off, 2. if you touch a enemy it just restarts instead of triggering the game over screen. 3. You don't have a limit on how much energy you can collect if you get more than the bar it simply overlaps it and keeps going) Weather that was intentional or not that's just my 2 Cents. Overall great game for you're first game and cant wait to play the next one! PS: I believe you could export it under the web setting I'm not sure how big it is but next time export it as a HTML5 game and upload it under Itch.io :)

- the controls are far too floaty. the deceleration is very difficult to control - the background music is too repetitive and drony, doesn't set a an enjoyable mood - the mixed artstyle looks confusing, the art should be consistent - the lack of sound is very unsatisfying - the theme is unclear - the physics are wonky. the character sinks into the landscape all the time. - the 2 blocks at every jump exacerbate the bad physics and make jumping a chore

It's honestly not a fun game but I hope that you'll keep working on games regardless

rapter 2017-08-01 21:51

FUNNY and PRETTY ART , simple mechanic and good idea , good base for AWESOME GAME , good job!! Congratulations 5/5 =) GOOD LUCK ^..^

the-iron 2017-08-01 21:54

Quick and challenging! I only wish that Sparkman could jump higher. Great job.

Thanks for your feedback

pixel-game-wizard 2017-08-01 22:13

I really liked the graphics - you did a really good job on those!

Here are a few thoughts I had about the platformer itself: 1. I found the movement was a bit finicky... I kept sliding around a lot. I don't know how you set up your character/Unity scene, but in my past experience I've found it can help to play around with the Physics materials. It might be worth looking into that more at some point. There might be other solutions too. 2. The introduction of the different mechanics might have been better spread out a bit more. Right away at the beginning, after the first jump across the gap, I was tested with the monsters. So I used the energy weapon (mechanic 1). Then right away I had to figure out how to double jump (mechanic 2) to get an item to recharge my energy (mechanic 3). Even though there aren't a lot of mechanics here, it did feel like I had to figure out a lot all at once. Then the rest of the level felt... perhaps a bit repetitive because there weren't too many new things after that? 3. I found that I could jump past the monsters, so there was very little point in combating them. Maybe that's okay though.

Disclaimer: I don't play platformer games all that often. If something I said here seems strange (because it should be obvious/conventional), please do let me know.

Thanks for sharing!

@pixel-game-wizard thanks for the feedback

lishnor 2017-08-02 15:10

Nice game, controls are responsive and the game is fun to play. But the game is nothing new. Overall game was fun, good entry.

roguenoodle 2017-08-02 15:55

Congratulations on finishing! Overall, it's a pretty good start to a platformer. I felt like I should have been able to jump on top of the enemies though, since they only have spikes on their sides. A small art change would fix that though :)

pedro-romero 2017-08-02 16:24

The graphics and music are nice and feels good to control. The problem with this game is that it don't use a lot the "energy" mechanic, it only serves as ammo. Also, the game over message didn't trigger when an enemy killed you.

lamm 2017-08-02 17:33

thanks for the feedback

sebastian-m 2017-08-03 03:37

Wow, for your first game that's amazing. The pixel art looks great and the animations are really cool, the music and graphcs match nicely. And I was surprise how good and fun the guy move, the jump felt really fun. So great job!!!

The only bad thing I can say about it is that it doesn't fit the theme of the Jam, so that's a bummer.

rodobodolfo 2017-08-03 03:48

Nice game, loved the art an animations. dont like the way collisions works they seem not accurate. also a more gradual introduction to the different mechanics would be great. I personally like Controls but it can be a little frustrating at times, especially when trying to jum over blocks. Graet job overall!

jahndis 2017-08-03 03:48

Not sure how people don't think it fits the theme. You obviously only had so much power when shooting that you were running out of... *shrug* The jumping was indeed floaty/slippery to the point where I would jump right into a pit unintentionally XD. Graphics were a bit inconsistent, but I didn't notice as much since all of the "major" objects were the same style. It just didn't gel with the background as much. And the music sounded fine to me (although with such a short loop, it can get a bit repetitive. but 'tis the nature of a jam game :D) Good work!

reax 2017-08-03 03:51

Cool game! It was fun to play. Well done.

I was expecting having to download the game but then it took me to a web version which is great! To encourage people to play and rate your game I would recommend you to add the web-version link to this page. Because right now it only says "Windows" which may deter some people from trying it.

doc-ill 2017-08-03 03:52

Good job on your first LD submission! The visuals of the game worked very well, however I think the movement of the character could use a little bit of fine tuning. The character felt very slow to start running due to a low acceleration. The character could also use some drag, as it was very difficult to land on single block platforms. Well done!

deanard 2017-08-03 04:02

This has potential to be a pretty solid platformer, but the controls feel a bit loose. I found myself gliding off edges a lot because of the continued velocity on jumping, there also needs to be more reason to shoot, i was able to skip alot of enemies just by jumping around them which i feel takes away from the challenge of your game.

mactinite 2017-08-03 07:11

I really like the player sprite the animations are well done. The music is also really nice. One thing that would have been nice is some form of a checkpoint system. Good job keep working on games :)

artur-hawkwing 2017-08-03 15:55

This game had a very nice platformer feel. I found the controls to be easy to use, and the game overall played very smoothly. Plus, the graphics and audio were amazing.

I will suggest to you to keep the enemies from running off the platform is to have a special block type (that looks the same) to put at the edge of a cliff, so the enemies can turn around when they touch that rather than relying on a physical barrier. I also found that it was possible to win without using any power--having jumps take power would have been a fun addition to make power feel very limited.

Overall this is a great game! Keep up the great work!

lamm 2017-08-03 16:32

Thanks for the feedback , always consider to be better

zenmumbler 2017-08-03 16:48

Nicely done first game. Handling collisions well is always tricky, so don't worry if you didn't get them exactly right first time. Forgot I had a weapon until I read a comment here, see of it as a hard mode :)

miepmiep 2017-08-03 20:53

I really like the graphics! It's fun to play although the controls are a little weird.

sythgara 2017-08-03 20:54

I like the music and atmosphere. Good art direction. As someone mentioned some controls felt a little floaty, but i guess it might just be something to get used to. Not inherently BAD per se.

krunoslav 2017-08-03 22:26

Juego bastante divertido.

ezaudiolabs 2017-08-03 23:02

Great game, you did a good job!

ledez 2017-08-03 23:04

Nice platform game! Levels are cool and controls are good for a platform game. Keep doing a great job.

lamm 2017-08-04 03:21

Thanks for the feedback

karai17 2017-08-04 04:02

Congrats on your first game! It's a nice little platformer with some solid mechanics. My only real feedback is that the controls feel a bit too floaty, I ended up falling off of cliffs more than I felt that I should have. Otherwise, great entry! :)

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-04 12:11

Fun game, but needs more polishing: - movement needs to be changed, right now is very floaty and feels as if character is moving on ice, - slowing down the player is very hard, - sound effects would add really nice feel to the game, - some of the UI elements went partially of the screen, - jumping on enemies heads would definitelly make this game more enjoyable, - player can partially stuck in walls.

Level design seems to be nice (those tile at ends of platforms are to prevent enemies from falling?).

johngun 2017-08-04 12:35

Nice game, liked the platforming a lot and the graphics was very nice as well.

Unfortunately the "running out power" part, with the shooting, needs a bit of tweaking, since it's possible to complete the game, without shooting a single bullet. This can easily be fixed with level design alone, where the player is forced to shoot or you could set a timer on the power, so that the player has to reach the next pickup, within a given time.

Other than that, great work, had fun

flobar 2017-08-05 12:46

That's actually really good for your first game jam. This looks like it has some potential to be something more. Well done. Dig the music as well, really adds to the mood.

sagarpatel25700 2017-08-05 16:00

- Nice short and sweet game - If you could just add some death effect of enemy and player then it would be really nice

mestrerothld 2017-08-05 16:50

Amazing art. It only needs some effect when the enemies or players are killed, or the shoot.

I love tight controls and yours are floaty, but, for some reason, I didn't mind it. Maybe because it added an acceleration vibe to the movement.

The level design was nice. It didn't repeat too much and, since your system is working, you can easily add more levels, different enemies.

Overall, what I liked the most was the art. The animation was very fluid and the main char was charismatic.

Congratulations!

adrian0901 2017-08-05 20:13

not that great theme usage

just your standard fare platform game

but it's an awesome and fun standard fare platform game

chaotikza 2017-08-06 17:56

Great job for your first jam entry! This is miles better than my first entry...

The music and art worked quite well together even if the art was a bit inconsistent. I assume from the fact that you're not asking to be rated in __Graphics__ and __Audio__ that you were using assets off the internet, in which case the inconsistency is understandable - I only really started creating my own assets since LD37 so I know finding consistent assets online can be very difficult.

Only issue I had with the running out of power theme is that I was never in any danger of running out of power... most enemies could be avoided instead of fighting them.

sumgamstudio 2017-08-06 19:49

Good game. Difficult... It's likes mario - you see gumbo, you jump on it. Difficult to don't do that.

tymus 2017-08-06 19:59

For your first game it's pretty nice, the ability to finish the game without killing anyone was a nice thing(not sure it was intended but still, I enjoyed it). Keep making games, you'll only improve this way :D

mike-cullingham 2017-08-07 03:01

Nice job, and even more so that it's your first game. Basic platformer, but with your health tied to the enemies you kill... I like that. Good idea, and well done.

markwolf 2017-08-07 05:31

Nice and cute platformer. Graphics, animation and music are good quality. You should add sfx for jump, landing, running, hurt and so on. As we are all intoxicated by super Mario game mechanics, I think you should ask some spiky things on the head of the enemies so as we understand immediatly we cannot jump on them to kill them.

bombjack 2017-08-07 20:38

I really liked the art. The double jump feels good. It's just missing some sound effect but still a good game.

norrimo 2017-08-08 07:42

Nice game. I tried to win the game with no shooting but than came the last Enemy and I was too nervous so I shot him down. xD Yay, I beat the game with one Enemy dead. Soundfeedback would be cool. Keep going. Was a lot of fun. :)

besslaaneshi 2017-08-08 18:07

Nice looking game, have sounds, it's not fit good i think, but it have sound and that's good. I think you need SFX and polish game more to make it better. Also shooting is nothing here, i just dont need energy and shoot, just jump and jump :)

hhsaez 2017-08-10 13:19

Simple game with great art. I like how the controls feel. I don't like that enemies kill by simple touching you. Maybe you should take some energy out instead or add hit points.

Great work!

schu 2017-08-10 14:55

I'm not a fan of the controls. I often struggled to control exactly where I land and would find myself jumping too far and dying which led to a lot of frustration.

serval-games 2017-08-12 12:58

Short simple game with nice graphics but without SFX and few more levels seems empty

dragojt 2017-08-13 14:17

Lovely music that fits perfectly in this game :)

The pixel art character contrasts good with the enviroment. With more animations and effects would be awesome.

So enjoyable game!

lamm 2017-08-14 01:23

Thanks everyone for the feedback

edwingamedev 2017-08-14 14:55

Lamm, your game is good for your first entry, i liked it. Some things you should work on, i still have issues too with platformers with unity, but, * The collisions should be consistent, your game still have collisions problems, like you can stuck at the start, on the left side collider, by jumping and holding the left arrow key. * The player should have some feedback about what is going on, should, animations, particles, every one of this makes the game feels better.

Good job for your first game jam, i hope you keep working on your game and improving your skills.

matt-fabius 2017-08-17 18:48

Cool game! I like the art and atmosphere. That said, the jumping was very imprecise which could've been fine if the levels weren't designed with a certain level of precision in mind, like those one block chunks. The insta-death on getting close to the enemies felt unfair at times. Might want to consider shrinking their colliders a bit. Overall, fun game, but got tired of it fairly quickly because of the jumping.

jason200101 2017-08-20 14:22

Nice game! The art style looks amazing, the music is both fitting and great in quality, the controls are simple but challenging (a great balance in my opinion), and the overall mechanic seems simple.

Overall, I liked it! Well done!
