You should output humor and mood as there is not really any of those in your game. The audio loop is quite nice. The graphics are good. The gameplay is repetitive quickly however.

I love the feel and graphics for this. Overall it's a good concept, though there are a few flaws. At least on my machine, there is no game-over message or clear way to restart besides closing the game and reopening it. I like the audio, but as it's only one bar looping it feels repetitive after awhile.

I loved the style of your graphics, it looked really clean!

irishbruse 2017-08-05 18:15

@mikronaut hi thanks for the comment i fixed the the problems you were having and for the audio im not the best when it comes to sound design but im glad you liked it.

A pretty simple concept, but done well. I almost got boxed in by those enemy ships a couple times. Seems like the right difficulty for the single level, but could definitely have benefited from more levels, or even a random spawn of a new goal once the previous goal was reached.

Nice graphics and presentation, I like the physics and controls. I think the enemy ships take too long to destroy, it makes it very difficult to kite and effectively manage the pack. Even trying to camp next to the sun I seem to run out of energy. Could probably do with some AOE weapon like a bomb or force field to push back the enemy when you get surrounded, maybe that costs a chunk of energy to activate to add some strategy to it's use. Overall though it's a solid entry and very good for a first attempt, good job! :)

Very good job on graphics and UI. I find the game very hard as once the enemies push me away I can't really tell where the Sun is, so I end up either looking for it or smacking right into it. GJ considering you did it for 48h compo. In your next LD I suggest you focus more on gameplay before perfecting UI and graphics.

Cool graphics! You really put a lot of work in those. While the music sounded nice, the loop was way too short for my tastes. It got repetitive soon. It could've also used some more sounds. I liked the essence of the gameplay. It only needs some tweaking. One already said that the ships take too long to destroy. I also believe the player ship turns too slow and flies too fast for it's own good. It's hard to hold control over it, while at the same time having the enemies push you around. Still, nice first entry for Ludum Dare!

Great first game - the graphics look smart, and the menu's a pretty cool addition too.

However, I found it was very each to completely lose the sun (maybe include it's direction on the map), and my laser did not appear to do anything... to anything! From a balancing point of view I found the ship quite hard to control, and I quickly got swamped by enemies that shunted me all over the place!

Minor gripe on the instructions; could be moved to the menu screen since I was still reading what to do when the first enemy bashed me across the screen! Also I had to work out that I could shoot myself, could't see any reference to that anywhere.

In any case, the fact that you got a complete playable game out there is an impressive achievement that you should be proud of - nice work!

@irishbruse Nice game!

I liked:

The Art: I am a space junkie which made me like looking at the stars, planets, and spaceships even more. I actually really liked the grid as well. It was mostly low poly, but it still looked really good. Well done!

The Sound: I liked the sound effects in your game that felt really crisp and futuristic. Also, background music is a plus for me.

I didn't like:

The Gameplay: I liked that there was a learning curve, but I did have problems with the main gameplay. It took way too long to kill any spaceships, to the point where I felt the only way to survive was to constantly thrust away. Because a lot of enemies come and that you have to be close to the sun to get power, the limited mobility hurt the gameplay. I would have liked WSAD control, so it's easier to control. It was still fun as is, but it could use improvement.

Overall, I thought you did a great job. Good luck!

PS: It appears you spawn multiple music objects, resulting in a weird sound overlay. To fix this, look up the DontDestryOnLoad function for Unity. You can download my source code and look at the Music_Manager to see how I did it.

Really great for a first submission. Looks very good. Here are some of my suggestions to improve. The controls might be too floaty, hard to move at all when there are so many enemies (or maybe too many enemies). I think the enemies have too much HP which slows down the game pace. Nice music but I think there was one bug that made the music was played twice after a respawn.

mat4dor 2017-08-13 14:33

Nice. I din't need to use any of the suns to get to the destination, but it was fun! Great job!

irishbruse 2017-08-13 14:36

@mat4dor wow you must have been luck not to find any enemy along the way. ;)

nusan 2017-08-13 17:12

Nice game, I like how you included the tutorial text in the game, even if ennemies where upon me before I could finish reading it ^^. I really missed a feedback when the laser was touching an enemy (explosion or something) to give it more impact. I also had trouble when too many enemies were pouching me around. But it was fun to play so keep up the good work.

peremily 2017-08-13 18:10

I liked the concept but as others have said the laser seems very weak and i personally found them pushing you very annoying, but with some re balancing it could be really fun! good job!

cpv 2017-08-13 20:32

Good concept, but might need some changes. The laser actually works, but it takes too much time and energy to destroy others. And other ships are very annoying, trying to push me all the time, and they are so many! I have to use energy to make maneuvers, and I have no idea in what direction shoud I go properly. But a good submission for first LD :)

tmpxyz 2017-08-14 01:33

The basic concept is good. The spaceship model is good, but the sun should have more work.

Also it could use some improvements on the details:

* Make everything slower, players are just blindly pushed around by enemies currently; * Make weapons matter, should kill the enemy with 0.5s laser, also make the collision reduce player HP; * Make player fly through slow swarm / Make player evade quick collision

mspawa 2017-08-14 23:55

Nice game. At the beginning you should let the player read the instructions, maybe when the player push a button the game should start or something like that, because it starts really fast and you are surrounded by tons of ships and they push you away of the instructions xD Good work :)

sgt3v 2017-08-16 07:58

Congrats on your first LD game! It is a nice game with trippy music you made :D
