Ten Little Letters by blinry 2017-08-11T21:37:45Z

Great original concept for a game. I agree that it would be good if the successful hits were persistent though... unless that would make it too easy to read the letter. I like the music too - but it seemed to stop after only a few seconds of play for me...?

Really well composed game, nice graphics and sound. I think it would benefit from a few (minor) tweaks though:

Using the mouse button to shoot made me instinctively aim with the mouse too, so I think this would be better as a key (or alternatively allow mouse aiming :) )

The only other thing for me was the difficulty curve, I found it really hard to get beyond a few rooms. Maybe this would be better with an improved shooting mechanic, but something like increasing enemy damage as you move further away from the start position would have allowed me to get into it a bit more than I did.

I also hit a random bug where i launched vertically upwards on impact with an enemy, but this only happened once and it was pretty funny to see. I thought I'd hit an insane flying powerup or something!

Nicely done!

Great first game - the graphics look smart, and the menu's a pretty cool addition too.

However, I found it was very each to completely lose the sun (maybe include it's direction on the map), and my laser did not appear to do anything... to anything! From a balancing point of view I found the ship quite hard to control, and I quickly got swamped by enemies that shunted me all over the place!

Minor gripe on the instructions; could be moved to the menu screen since I was still reading what to do when the first enemy bashed me across the screen! Also I had to work out that I could shoot myself, could't see any reference to that anywhere.

In any case, the fact that you got a complete playable game out there is an impressive achievement that you should be proud of - nice work!

Love the art style, and the game is well balanced - you've got the basics of a platformer down pat. Although of course the level did not have much variety, but then the lack of control in the air provided enough of a challenge for me to see it through in the end. I would say that it would only be worth adding control in the air if you upped the level complexity to a point where you would need it. It would be waaaay too easy otherwise :)

I did notice that the hitboxes seemed a little big for the enemies, but this is a minor gripe and I soon got used to staying well clear!

If you wanted to make it more challenging without going through the rigmarole of level design and testing, you could make the screen automatically scroll forwards, or even turn it into a one button "runner", which would force the player to focus on really perfecting their jump timing.
