Wow, special congrats for music and graphisms.
What the hell is ottermode? Fun game, very great graphics and music. I wish it gave you a short tutorial to understand each minigame with no chance of HP loss so you didn't have to restart the game each time you tried a new minigame and didn't understand how to do it for the first 2 seconds. Also you should be able to skip the opening cutscene. Otherwise very enjoyable. Almost makes me want to go to the real gym and get some sick gains. Almost.
This was pretty awesome for an LD game. The art was fantastic. I was really surprised to see so much detail in the gym itself. I half expected it to be a white room. The button mashing was kind of meh to me. I mainly did the crunches and presses because I could manage them lol. Good game! Definitely nice and refreshing. Creative use of the theme.
Hey got a business proposition for you: [FIGHT MILK](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEMlvjJ9uxo) This is the best game I've played so far. Well done, keep it up.
That was a lot of fun! It reminded me of Punch Club only much harder...and more permanent. My index fingers won't be needing to go to the gym for a month after this one :)
My only issue would be the re-spawning. If you make it to day 4 or 5 and die, you will be taken back to the start into a cutscene (which is cool!) but you can't skip it. Adding a skip option or a quick recovery would be a neat investment.
Overall, I did spend quite a bit of time with this one, it was a lot of fun! Thanks for putting it together!! :)
It was quite cool! I wish you could have a description of the minigames before they start. And having to restart from the begining every time is a bit tiring.
Overall it looked very polished. I liked the zooming effect when you are progressing in a minigame.
Awesome game! Nice retro arcade look and sound, the gameplay reminded me of an old Olympics game I used to play with my brothers on the master system 2.
It was a bit too hard, but fun to play. The whole game feels so polished, it's a great accomplishment for a jam game.
Thank you so much everyone! We were able to get a good jump start on this game (The idea came to me 15 minutes after the theme was announced) so I'm very glad to see it paid off.
There's some content features left out of the submission that I might add later into the WebGL version, such as status effects, populating the gym with interactable people and of course the ending cinematic songs (there is only solemn silence for your efforts for now).
There's some balancing issues I need to solve with the minigames, and certainly a tutorial in some way could be added (although I kinda like how you have to learn the ropes by yourself), but the first thing it definitely needs the skip button, that's for sure. I'll work on those a bit so that I can hopefully start seeing some highscores in the leaderboards!
Really polished game but a tutorial as you said with a personal trainer would make it easier becuase reading it takes some time to read what to do at the start and you get damaged by then. The only other thing missing was squats as you don't want to have chicken legs .
Congratulations on making an intense blast of cool nostalgia. I was grinning and bobbing my head from the moment the game started till the end. Loved it. Also, thanks for including a WebGL build.
Awesome game. I thought the whole concept was hilarious, you took "power" in a way different direction than most entries. This game is quite impressive for the very limited time you had. Very nice entry overall.
very nice art, entertaining premise
original game idea.
itch link you have give did not work for me.
This is probably the funniest game I have ever played on a LD event! I loved the game! It's perfect in every single way in my opinion. You are getting a full score from me!
Thank you for making this game I enjoyed it a lot!
Funny take on the theme, the game over screens are really amusing. I like the well executed pixel art aesthetic. The minigames where fun, but the interaction controls left a bit to be desired. For instance setting the weight was very difficult.
Web version doesn't appear to work for me, unfortunately (in fact, it freezes my entire browser...)
Is that so? That's... interesting. I'm at a loss for why that would happen though, since it's Unity's WebGL build.
Maybe your browser had too low memory to load it? I'm expecting that I put in safe amounts of memory reservation since it runs on all the computers I've tested it with. I can see whether I could lower the amount somewhat, though I can't hold any promises to being able to do so (Unity itself takes a hefty chunk if I understand right).
This might mean I'll have to create a Standalone version of the updated one in the future though.
PS: I fixed the itch.io profile, it should work now!
Wow, amazing sprite work! Loved the humor and overall style.
The only problem that I have is that you are using X and Z for controls. I have a European keyboard, so Z and Y are switched, making the minigames much more difficult - and they felt quite hard to begin with. Still had a bunch of fun though!
Ha, we use QWERTY in Finland and I was honestly upon the impression that it's how keyboards are mostly laid out. Well, the more you know. I'm gonna have to address that problem soon. Thanks a lot for the feedback and heads up!
Another perfect score! Freaking amazing. The sit-ups got a little borked at the end where I could only hurt myself, but other than that this was super fun all the way through! Excellent work!
Awesome game! Graphics and music on point, the idea is fun too. Maybe a little bit too hard? Or maybe that's me :D A really solid entry!
What an incredible game! Haha I really liked the interpretation of the theme. The game has incredible arts, incredible audio, very fluid mechanics. Can I give less than 5 stars? Absolutely not. :P Well done!
The art, music and sound effects are epic. I totally enjoyed this game. I just would like to point out that the crunches becomes impossible after a while (the meter doesn't even rise thus never reaches the blue area) and the weight thing you do on your back become too easy (doesn't need any action since the timer finishes before the pointer can get out of the blue area). Anyway, the game is really good, one of the most enjoyable games I have seen in the jam.
This game is awesome. I actually attempted to make a lifting themed game for my first game ever, so I really appreciate this. I think the minigames are too hard from the start. I could barely manage to do a couple pullups. Bench press seemed to be about the right level of difficulty starting off. The audio and graphics are high quality. Great work with this one.
It's so hard ! Will train on webgl version ..
Amazing. Radical. Success! Fun game! I am now officially a mistress of benchpress. Or so I thought, until I reached the end and was told I did horribly. :'c
I'm not sure if I just missed it, but if I didn't, it would've been nice to know the end goal before starting and not just at the end, because I wasn't really quite sure what I was doing, goal-wise, the whole time.
The humour is great and the music and voice clips really make the game. Amusing little jabs at the beach jock! The minigames are good; I was never good at button mashing, but this is the kind that I can pull off. My failure was probably due to not really getting how all the stats worked out. I also never seemed to have enough money to buy those pills, heh.
Overall it's very polished. Nice graphics and audio, lots of effects and game feel to it. And an intro and outro to boot! Great job!
P.S. Bug-ish? At least in the web version, movement works with WASD or arrows, but browsing the vending machine seems to only work with arrows, which was confusing, since I was playing with WASD.
Thanks for all the feedback! I kinda had the feeling that the game was giving a hard time at it's base difficulty, so I went and toned it down a bit (also made it scale back up towards higher values).
Just to point this out, the game kinda expects you to **increase your weights as you get stronger**, to get even stronger quicker (succesfully lift bigger weights = more strength experience). This in turn makes the minigames harder again, or the same if you stay within your strength numbers.
The game certainly doesn't really explain this, so I apologize for any uninformed bad endings :P.
@ava-skoog Nice catch! That is indeed a bug, I need to fix that ASAP. And yeah, maybe I need to give some indication on what the expected strength value to succeed actually is in-game.
it`s REALY cool! Nice! Love how camera move when I make exisize! Cool!
I got a lot of fun from the game. This is cool.
I really love the retro arcade art style in this game: especially the sound.
It's a very good game, i really love the mood and graphics. Your pixel arts are very impressive. Thanks for your fun game.
A bit simple, but very polished game. I felt it was a bit hard. But the graphics, sfx and music made up for that. Great entry!
