LD39 — Running out of Power

Achluophobia by Ajayajayaj 2017-08-02T04:22:12Z

Looks like a cute concept with shining the light on things to reveal their true nature, but I was extremely disappointed there was nothing to explore. I immediately started moving, and ended up in what appeared to be infinitely procedurally generated terrain with no enemies.

It would be cool to see your concept applied to levels, like a dark creepy house, etc.

Azrellian Asteroid Field by KunoNoOni 2017-08-02T01:37:55Z

POWER! 4331! At first the voice seemed a little annoying. But I was wrong. It grew on me quickly. I'd say biggest issue there is the high-pitched vocals got distorted so it's difficult to tell what is being said sometimes, especially with the blue wormholes. It took me a long time to figure out what the wrenches were actually doing for me, but once I understood, I was very glad for them.

Good job on this one, @kunonooni, and BIG POWER! to you!

E.M.P. by TheMadStrauss 2017-08-01T22:01:56Z

Welp. This was an absolute blast. Incredibly good-looking, great sound, fun game-play and mechanics. The threat of the energy bar made me have to think carefully about what I was doing and how logical an action was. You guys gotta do more stuff like this.

ThunderFox by Pietro Ferrantelli 2017-08-01T22:48:01Z

Bookmarked for later.

Goyom by stefvanschie 2017-08-01T07:19:13Z

I had fun playing this game! I made it through all of the available levels. I'll admit I struggled a little at first to understand exactly how each candy worked, but once I got it, I was having a good time planning my moves to determine my route. Clunky menu system, but I got where I needed to go.

Bot Bot Wars by woodenrabbit 2017-08-02T03:24:50Z

You had me hooked at "grow robots from seeds". Really cute robots and sweet music. The mechanic of manually dragging the energy cells up to the robots got physically tiring though; I felt like I couldn't keep up. It felt like there were far more spaces on both the left and right sides than I could possibly use. Cool game submission!

Unpowerer by Garywiss 2017-08-03T20:25:57Z

Atmospheric sort of dungeon, sorta reminds me of Metroid 2 in particular. Colors of the main character were a little ugly though. I was very amused how you gradually got weaker as you went... you were losing your powers, running out of them, haha. Boss seemed pretty unfair though how he would constantly stay under you if you jumped, so it was impossible to get out of the way to avoid damage.

Mars Mystery by wolar 2017-08-01T22:17:39Z

Surprisingly intuitive movement. The darkness added a great mood to the whole setting. Turning off the light didn't seem very practical in most cases due to all the rocks. I got through the whole thing. Very interesting "discoveries" in the goal zones. :)

Lightbulb by Ltven0mI 2017-08-01T06:28:49Z

Well... it's very pretty. But it just doesn't seem very involved or interesting.

Soporific: A Bedtime Story by paracatgames 2017-08-03T19:44:41Z

This was SO ADORABLE! Oh goodness, screen transitions were so lovely because they were as slow as they are, so the painted backgrounds seemed to blend really well together for the fade. (And really nice backgrounds, too!) I enjoyed seeing the little details pop up as the stories went on.

Sound direction was SPOT ON. Give that kid a medal for best voice acting lines. :)

Solar Snoop's Star Trek by tweedle 2017-08-02T03:38:30Z

Woo, 880 points! I loved the humorously long intro story! Fantastic graphics and overall art style. I was amused by the little blue dude that kept popping up, but I wish he said more things. The music was nice and soothing, but I'd love to see a little more variety. Blowing up PLANETS is hilarious. Thanks for submitting this!

Last Sunset by piscythe 2017-08-02T00:57:53Z

Fun and action-packed! I liked the different weapons matching enemy types. The bosses were phenomenal, though the last one went on for way too long in my opinion. Fantastic music.

Dungeon Ruler by LudumAnthony 2017-08-02T04:06:15Z

It was very difficult to attack sometimes since you always faced right if you weren't moving. Really cool graphics. I'm sad to admit that after SEVERAL tries, I could not bring down the boss. Oh well! Maybe I'll try again later. Cool work, even minimal sound would improve it.

Buddies Bad Day by elit3dgaming 2017-08-03T21:09:46Z

Very short game, but the last couple levels were fun. I could see this mechanic expanded with new tricks in later levels. Could use some kind of music of course. Biggest gripe is I'm forced to use WASD and not arrow keys. If you could set it so both work, that would be fantastic! ...I might need to integrate WASD into my own game.

Ghost in the Machine by bmacintosh 2017-08-01T05:21:33Z

Cute concept. I had a bit of trouble figuring out what each robot was meant to be doing. The ability to transfer power was very helpful for sure. Nice!

Keep 'Em Alive! by mrerdalural 2017-08-05T18:24:42Z

Woo, very stressful, very tense! I definitely could NOT master the system. Cute graphics; it's easy to tell what everything is, and nothing's ugly. That alone is, IMO, tough to do in a short time! Disappointed about lack of music, but the sounds were spot on.

Keep your sanity by Lorthal 2017-08-02T02:48:15Z

A bit scary for my taste perhaps, but I gave it a good shot. I had to put it in windowed mode and lower the volume. You could probably take that as a compliment! Hehe. It was dark, but maybe a little TOO dark sometimes. Really hard to see what I was doing. The only weapon I found was the handgun near the start. Doesn't look like you can swap back to the hammer, so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be able to break anything else.

Ash Dash by DevOrc 2017-08-01T22:45:46Z

Hey, that's a pretty neat concept of a game. Not the best-looking, but I like how there's trade-offs for the power-ups. I thought the game itself was pretty easy to get into and understand.

Orcs in Space by atridas 2017-08-01T22:35:59Z

It looks like a neat game, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to display.OrcsInSpace.jpg

Orcs in Space by atridas 2017-08-05T19:10:30Z

Finally got to play it! Whew! Went through it three times to finally beat it. Thanks so much for putting up a graphical fix. This game gets really hard as time goes on, so you really have to work toward efficiency if you want a chance to survive the late waves. But the difficulty was tuned just right so that once I work it out, it's definitely possible.

The graphics were absolutely phenomenal; I love this sort of style. Nice sounds and all. Very good work.

Bulbino's Quest! by alpenter 2017-08-01T21:23:54Z

Decent game. Pretty challenging toward the end as spawns increase. Nice graphics, and I was glad that the shot had a nice radius around it to help players who are terrible at aiming like me, haha! Music was okay. Sound effects were never annoying, so that's great.

Tower of Power by DaragonGames 2017-08-05T21:02:21Z

Audio's a bit too loud and harsh. Not sure what the things that go down the right side of the screen are supposed to be, but boy they're a pain; most turrets seem to miss them outright. I made it through 182 enemies with 138514 power spent before it ended. Max power was 19342.

Once a building was placed, it couldn't be removed or upgraded in any way, so I felt like I had no choice but to sit and wait a very long time before anything interesting happened. Enemies took a very long time to scale up past the point where they would die instantly upon entering. I'd like a bit more interactivity, so I could destroy buildings and replace them with other ones to adjust to enemy tactics.

Robot Is Powerless by Swynfel 2017-08-09T06:08:26Z

Great-looking graphics! First stage was very well-designed in that it teaches the basic mechanics very clearly. I love fun little puzzle games like this. I'd really love to see it grow into a fully fledged game!

Running From Power by MichaelGrand 2017-08-02T03:47:36Z

Amusing little game. Could use a bit of music, ideally something really cheesy! It was awesome how fast you could go, and a couple times I jumped just right at such a high speed that I went flying off the screen. Those were the best moments.

Diamond Lattice by svntax 2017-08-07T01:49:58Z

I like it! I love puzzle games that involve rotating things and making connected lines. I got to level 6 and enjoyed it. I'll probably play it a couple more times over the next few days. :)

Rolling out of power! by Willbl3pic 2017-08-05T19:18:21Z

What fun! A very simple concept executed very well. Very simple music track, but I really enjoyed how its tempo and pitch was linked to your speed. Very cool texture for the walls. Ball looks a little weird though. You made the little boxes look surprisingly good with the visual effects on them. Cool game. :)

Mower Storms by dracominer 2017-08-03T17:29:40Z

Haha, this game was hilarious! It perfectly captures the struggle penguin soldiers face on a daily basis. The lawnmowers are a perfect metaphor for the effects of humans on the environment, adding in unpredictable variables that the penguin armies can't fully predict or work around.

Or something. Seriously, lawnmowers raining from clouds is great. I didn't mind that I got hit so many times (like every other turn!) because it was just too amusing.

I enjoyed the different units. Once I got a feel for their movement ranges, I was able to use good tactics to destroy the opposition (on Medium). It was satisfying.

Music's really simple but very cute. Some of the sound effects were a bit too loud.

I had fun. Thanks!

Power Rhythm by sparewizard 2017-08-02T02:38:29Z

That was pretty fun. Nice music. I didn't read the controls on this page before my first attempt, and I pretty much lost instantly. Once I read the controls, it went much better. Score of 10880 I think. A little something in-game would be nice before the song plays!

Keep Shoveling by Twaldigas 2017-08-03T18:27:04Z

Very much like in real life, the bullets are kinda hard to see. ;)

Cute concept, trying to maintain the balance between shoveling and shooting. You picked some nice sounds, and I thought you did a good job on the graphics. I kinda like western themes, so this one was pretty appealing.

Could use some bears, for sure.

DOHMIERE by Jesus Fermin Villar 2017-08-02T01:20:55Z

It took me two attempts to finish the game. What killed me the first time was, uh... not reading. Yeah. Remembering reading comprehension when there's text and hints, it tends to help. WHOOPS!

So I went back and did it, cause I wasn't letting that kid die. And... so I didn't let him die.

Absolutely gorgeous visuals. Fantastic dark mood with a bit of hope for the future. Someone's future, at least. Good job!

Tower of Morale by Pixetrichor 2017-08-01T20:43:20Z

Oof, those sound effects were kind of grating. The graphics weren't terribly impressive. But that gameplay was really fun! I was hooked right away with the mechanics, and I saw it through to the end. Not too tough (until the fifth stage, omg watch out), and I enjoyed it.

No Sorcerer's Sky by TheFlyingKeyboard 2017-08-03T21:31:12Z

This was nice! Fantastic graphics and sound all around. It was overall pretty intuitive, and I didn't have any trouble figuring out what to do or how to play. Seems like the version embedded in the website really needs to be full screen because the window just isn't wide enough for the whole UI.

MoleMine: Dig 'til you drop by Skyward 2017-08-05T19:33:52Z

Woo, I won! It was fun.

Bonus points for cute animal character.

Couple things I'd suggest. - The wall panels ought to be closer to the start so it's clearer to the player what and where the objective is. I actually bypassed the panels entirely my first try end ended up with a full inventory and no idea what to do with it. - Dynamite could briefly light up the area while the animation plays perhaps.

Power Tower by AncientEntity 2017-08-01T06:07:02Z

Controls are way too floaty, so it was pretty difficult to control. Unfortunately that made it difficult to enjoy.

Potential Energy by Carsen D. 2017-08-03T17:59:49Z

Whoaaaa, that is emotionally dark!

The jump right after the Green Fellow was REALLY hard, and I had to do it over and over. I was grateful that a checkpoint was offered a bit later, but I didn't have to use it.

Up in the duct at the end, it seemed there was an option to Listen to the people below, but it was only accessible by jumping, which would then cause the message to immediately disappear. :(

Great job on the lighting. It really helped set the mood. The music was a great choice.

Thanks for making this and sharing it with us! Pretty neat.

Video Child by BobFish 2017-08-02T04:31:55Z

Cute concept that I can totally relate to from my own childhood! Haha. I used to stick a big thick comforter down against the crack of my door to keep light from shining out so people theoretically couldn't tell I had my light on. Of course, I didn't have the whole cranking-generator thing to worry about. And boy those parents sure love going up and down the stairs, huh?

Cute concept, very challenging sometimes with the timing of the parents and the rock formations. Cool work.

Temple of Illumination by Johngun 2017-08-03T18:42:32Z

This was REALLY FUN.

The title screen hooked me immediately, looked just fantastic. Really set the mood from the start.

I loved the little names for each level. They gave each one a bit of flavor and sometimes humor. It's a really classic sort of style that I want to emulate myself sometime.

I'd say my only gripe is the wall jumping was a little difficult to learn at first. The timing was a bit strange to me, and the sliding along the wall if you had enough momentum led to some confusing moments; level 2 took me a while to beat as a result. But once I got the hang of it, I had a lot of fun with the rest of the game.

Project Sunspot by AntaresValdemar 2017-08-03T17:50:24Z

Pretty neat concept. Very atmospheric, nice characters. But holy smokes the difficulty! I'm sad to say after several tries I wasn't able to complete it, but I did watch your video so I could see the whole thing. Thanks for putting that up. Yeah, guess my biggest feedback is about the difficult camera like a lot of other people said. Cool work though!

Manual Mech by Mikeliosus 2017-08-03T19:30:09Z

I did not enjoy this. The controls are so difficult and counter-intuitive. I kept running out of energy so quickly I could hardly survive to my next goal. Pretty much made it as far as the drill, and my energy was so depleted I was basically dead.

The Quest for the Mighty Battery Charger by Solah 2017-08-03T21:02:35Z

ROLLING EVERYWHERE! More games need rolling.

You could definitely expand on this concept, get rolling powerups, maybe another power or two. You've got a good grasp on FamiTracker since the music sounded like it could've come from the Zelda Oracle games. Wonderful art, too!

ODISSEUS by MarkWolf 2017-08-05T20:11:07Z

Pretty easy difficulty in this game. Unfortunately I felt like I had very little incentive to actually shoot anything while flying; I think I used less energy just moving and avoiding things. The graphics were a bit rough in the space sections. It was difficult for me to tell what some things were. Having turrets spawn randomly on the screen is very jarring and creates unpleasant situations sometimes where one suddenly appears right in front of you, and you ram into it.

The mining section was my favorite, and I enjoyed collecting all the things. Sometimes though I'd see a green gem really far away from everything else, so I would have to move five tiles to pick it up, then five tiles to get to the next gem, making it not just useless, but a waste. It would be nice if you could choose to leave the mining section early!

I took some fun risks, skipping planets and carefully rationing my energy that way. Was worth it.

Low Battery by Battle Buddy 2017-08-02T04:47:08Z

Pretty cool! Played it four times. First time, barely survived with 10% power left. Second time I did a "speed run" and made it at 89%! Third and fourth were experimenting with the two ways to lose. Cool game! Good moody music, nice little plot. Fine work!

Robo Nanny by kalyrical 2017-08-01T21:02:05Z

I lost on my first try because I didn't quite understand the mechanics, but I figured it out upon losing. Second try was a complete success. Not bad, but not very exciting.

Blackout by Kichex 2017-08-01T05:05:08Z

When I started up the game, the controls were covered by the start options. Thankfully the controls were listed on the web page too.

First thing I saw in the game was a very nice-looking environment. Very well-drawn. But the text that popped up when I got near things was way too small, so I could barely read it. And it seemed like the only thing I could interact with inside the station was the broken machinery to the right of the exit. The doors didn't work.

Outside in space, controls were awful. I spent several minutes trying to get the hang of the controls while I went spinning wildly out into space. And then the Rescue ETA counter ticked down to 0, and I won the game?

It seems you can collect scrap an infinite number of times, but no matter how much I had, I couldn't repair the generator(?).

Seems like the game is terribly incomplete, but it's a nice concept.

Rats will kiss the gunner's daughter by Mr.Houdini 2017-08-03T19:19:29Z

I had a lot of fun with this. I played it three times... and figured it out all three times! Thankfully, reading through the comments, it looks like a bunch of people struggled with it, so there's probably a good amount of challenge there. (I've been a puzzle-solver all my life.)

The graphics were good, and the art of the pirates was very humorous to me. I felt really bad about using force, so I was careful to only use it when I felt it was necessary. Seemed to work out for me.

Good job on such a nicely-polished game. This has been one of my favorites so far.

Deep Jellergy! by shanebauman 2017-08-02T05:07:42Z

My first try, I made it 1.2 nautical miles! WOO! Second try was 155.2. Rockin'. I enjoyed the soft, eerie music. Made it pretty atmospheric. Torpedo sound would be great, something soft so it doesn't get annoying.

What was really funny was starting out thinking "I lose energy when I shoot? Why even bother" 50 knots in, "KILL THEM ALL! DIE DIE DIE"

Cool stuff!

I played in Chrome and had no issues.

Coffee Hero: Powered by Coffee by Guilb 2017-08-02T02:03:44Z

Cute graphics, and potentially clever gameplay. I could not figure out how to fill my cup with the different coffee condiments. Typing the key that popped up did nothing. I was only able to get things to work when a "B" popped up, and I right-clicked the mouse. Music loop's a bit too short, but it's overall quirky and fun to listen to.

Imperium by Studio 310 2017-08-03T20:32:30Z

Great sprites. The power decreasing makes it VERY challenging... I couldn't get very far! haha. Oh well. I'm not very good at these sorts of games. The names were pretty amusing and all. Neat work.

Dynasty Through The Decades by Jamie McClenaghan 2017-08-02T03:12:34Z

Neat twist on the theme, interpreting "power" in a different way from most of us. I didn't really understand why some interactions had the results they did. Maybe it's that if a part of the population has enough power themselves, they feel like they don't need me? That's probably it. I was able to spam some of the buttons and try to game the system that way to get a higher Power rating; best I had was 97%. Maybe actions should have a cooldown period so you can't just keep clicking the same thing over and over?

Dadoor by IgorFolz 2017-08-02T01:48:36Z

It was kinda fun, but really difficult. Pretty graphics (especially that UI, dang) but it ran pretty slowly on my system. Nice sounds and all, great models. It was REALLY hard for me though; felt like the player character dies too easily. Cool job folks!

Think before you jump by Delalandii 2017-08-01T05:44:11Z

Sure it was easy, but it was fun! I loved the concept. Cute graphics and stuff. Definitely could use some more complex levels, though I did replay it to improve, and that was neat.

< Mr. Plug > by Drachmor 2017-08-02T02:17:52Z

Ahh, I LOVED how the levels changed like that. The different types of fields were fun to interact with, and sometimes there was a good amount of tension as I wasn't sure I'd make it back in time. Plug-Head is a cute little character. Animation and sound would rock, but having just done a game myself, yep, I get it.

Bonus points for gratuitous honey.

The Last Question by Terribly Awesome Games 2017-08-05T18:11:23Z

Absolutely gorgeous. You did an amazing job of interpreting Asimov's story, using visuals and music to establish emotional tone where the extra context in the narrative was unable to be brought into the game word for word. I enjoyed the puzzle solving sections. Definitely not what I would call a "fun" game, but it was certainly enjoyable in other cerebral sorts of ways. Thank you.

Till the last spin by KiiroHanabi 2017-08-07T01:31:30Z

Whoa, the way the arrows bounce to the side is a little scary and challenging. Hoo boy! That'll keep you on your toes.

Definitely add some feedback for hitting arrows correctly. Otherwise it feels empty. Otherwise, cool start!

The Leech by Peter Sheehan 2017-08-03T19:56:40Z

It was an interesting premise, though the story was very dark and disturbing. I was disappointed that while the game explained that if you see a yellow circle you need to get away, but I never had such warning because if I was close enough for a yellow circle to appear, I would already be dead. Visually very unique and stylized.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-01T06:35:33Z

I'm sad to see that the game didn't load for @shamuel. Thanks for the warning though. That's the first time I've been informed of that, and hopefully it's an isolated case.

I'm disappointed about the balance myself. If I had more time before submitting, I would have liked to tweak the difficulty balance a bit more to ensure The Entity was always a threat. At the very least, I'm happy to say that everything seems to function correctly.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-02T03:52:07Z

@ludumanthony Pretty fair points there! Yeah, the spawns are random for both the items and The Entity. Items have predetermined potential spawn points, and 20 of them get used. Entity can spawn on any white tile (not the shuttle bay). Sometimes they all spawn really far away and you don't even run into them.... sometimes they appear frighteningly close! Not a great balance there, would love to tweak it more.

As far as "running out of power" goes, the shuttle's energy continuously drains until you max out the gauge. However it's really slow, maybe too slow.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-02T06:56:49Z

@bmacintosh I'll have to look into that. I know what you're talking about, and it kinda bugs me too. I think I will try to fix that for future versions.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-03T04:20:53Z

@stephen-meyer Thank you! I'll keep Edge in mind. Maybe I'll learn something from that.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-03T15:52:11Z

@peter-sheehan One thing I'm toying with in new builds of the game is having a certain percent of the doors randomly closed already. It seems to present some interesting tactical choices: do I break this door down to get what's behind, knowing I can never seal it later? Or do I leave it up and find alternative routes?

I hate that I made the difficulty as easy as it is. I've been tweaking it in the newer versions, but I pretty much gotta leave the Ludum Dare version as it is. Oh well!

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-05T04:20:53Z

@badly-drawn-rod "Space Bear Picnic". Clearly this should be my next game! :D

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-05T04:25:24Z

@atridas I actually did fix those collision issues in my Post-Ludum-Dare build! unfortunately since that was after the deadline, and it's more of a gameplay change rather than a major bug-fix, I didn't think it would be honest of me to upload it to the LD version. You're totally right though, it feels so much better and smoother not getting stuck on corners of doors and not slowing down when pressing against walls.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-06T03:33:42Z

@sleepless I agree entirely! The spacing is just wrong, some letters are too hard to read against other letters, and it's overall just ugly. I like the capitals though.

Space Bear Panic by Chris Coe 2017-08-08T04:51:07Z

@kiirohanabi I think the energy cell sitting by the shuttle helped with making the player's direction clear. It was initially there for testing purposes, but I realized how helpful it would be for new players.

I'm unhappy about how laggy it got. It was caused by having way too many actors out on the field at once, all performing their own calculations. More recent versions fixed that.

Deep Space Burrito by Shamuel 2017-08-02T02:30:19Z

This is a very visually interesting game. Lots of well-drawn things to look at. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, they're only there to look at. I had an okay routine going with the burritos and crank, though it got to the point where I was getting hungry faster than I could microwave burritos. Also I turned blue, and I couldn't figure out why. Sometimes I would see weird red dots move horizontally across the screen, but I couldn't figure out if they were relevant to anything. Could use sound of course, maybe a bit more to do, but neat regardless.

Torch Boy by FloBar 2017-08-03T21:36:52Z

Wow, very difficult game, which is probably just fine due to its length. It took a while to get the hang of the rhythm of the enemies and how the charge is useful for avoiding them at times. It took me several times, but I got it! Good mechanics and all.

Power Station by Augusto 2017-08-05T21:08:28Z

The game looked really nice. Good graphical effects. The crosshair adjustment with the mouse was a little awkward and fidgety, but the movement speed was spot on. Very good feeling when firing and hitting targets.

Pepe, The Power Plant by RobotsAndMuffins 2017-08-05T20:44:47Z

Cute game! Very charming graphics particularly for the plant and the sun. Could be fun to see where you take this in your post-jam version.

Character Building by Badly Drawn Rod 2017-08-03T20:47:57Z

This family brings new meaning to the word "dysfunctional". Woooow. I kept playing until I found all four endings. Clever little game with resource management, and I'm even more grateful I have the partner I do.

Sensory by VarelseGames 2017-08-02T05:22:47Z

This was NEAT once I figured out what was going on. The sound ones tripped me up a lot, definitely the hardest type to avoid. Cool work!

Battery Run by JustMars 2017-08-09T06:17:01Z

Graphics didn't impress me much at first. But you had some great effects going with the rotation of the phone and the turning of the camera while on the course. That was really neat!

It's a hard game right now, so I'm not sure where the finish line is. If the game were to expand, definitely consider tweaking the battery rate a bit.

I'll give you this, I restarted and played several times. You've got a good idea going. Have some fun with it post-Ludum-Dare!

AAAAASTEROIDS! by teacapn 2017-08-05T21:16:38Z

I couldn't control the ship. It kept flying to the left. Title screen effect was amusing. Nice job with GarageBand and BFXR effects.

AEOS by Yetman 2017-08-05T21:45:19Z

What a lovely little game! It was very relaxing... once I understood the interactions with light and shadow. The graphics were a bit too intense for my computer, so I had to turn down the resolution and the quality. Still looked nice. I really appreciated the water sounds, and a bit of soft ambient music would be perfect. I cleared it all the way through to the end, and it was a good experience.

Charger by Matt bob 2017-08-01T06:50:57Z

I loved your characters. Bonus points for cool animal characters. You started with a simple premise and it led up to a nice "punchline" of sorts. Some minor bugs with Ron sometimes being in the wrong place after scene transitions, but it was nothing game-breaking.

Keep making stuff. Have fun with it. You've got a nice start.

Garden of Gods by pareidolia 2017-08-01T02:41:54Z

Gorgeous graphics, though my poor system didn't handle the higher graphics settings well. The music is fun and whimsical, but I didn't hear any sound effects. It looks like a really cool concept here. It took me a bit to figure out what was going on at first though, and how the veggies related to the dishes that the face wanted. This could be really great if you continue development.

Exodus by Astrojone 2017-08-02T00:29:24Z

This plays like the introduction or a playable trailer for something epic. You're continuing development? That's awesome. Graphics and sound are top notch. Characters don't get a lot of screen time yet, but I already feel I have a decent grasp on what each one is like. Keep going!

Zap Energy by James Lee 2017-08-01T06:44:52Z

Very charming graphical style! I loved that! The game seems really simple at first, but it really picks up by the 300m mark. Definitely worthwhile to play when you've reached that point, but consider letting the difficulty ramp up a little sooner to engage the player. Nice work!

LD42 — Running out of space

Hoard by gelisam 2018-08-15T02:37:10Z

What a cute rabbit. I felt relief in the final stage when I saw a certain orange object I just knew my Friend would love. Best moment in the game though was the wheelbarrow. I'm sure I laughed. Very pleasant experience. Thanks for sharing with us!

Runnink out of Space by Aurel300 2018-08-23T06:40:05Z

This... wow. This was incredible. Wow. This was made in a jam?! Like... wow.

Almost everything here was just so amazingly witty, logical, yet difficult. I felt a real sense of accomplishment from finishing it. I took notes as I went, which hopefully isn't considered cheating <3 but it worked for me.

And I say almost everything, because a certain peculiar individual in the Social Room only accepts one, and exactly one, input. If there's a logic behind that, I haven't figured it out... but I got my word in the end!

Geez. Good work, seriously. Just... wow.

All The Things! by Snowdrama 2018-08-15T01:37:24Z

Pretty interesting concept. It took me several tries before I got the hang of the controls. Kinda too much info thrown at you at once. It wasn't until my last playthrough that it occurred to me the reason I was having trouble placing items on the edges of rooms was because the blue round thing was my character, and I had to move it. Then I realized you had to leave space to move around... ha ha ha. Oops. I got better.

Gold Eater by Finlal 2018-08-19T05:27:50Z

YEAAAAH! I love the whole adventure in the sky sorta theme here. That's pretty much my favorite aesthetic: airships and flying islands. Super points there. Absolutely GORGEOUS pixel art. Devious level design. I wish the turrets weren't gold-colored because I suicided into them so many times just to see if I could take them. :)

Ummm... I don't think I really have any complaints here. I guess I noticed a thing where the timing of being able to walk off a collapsing platform is a little too strict, and thus sometimes it looks like I'm falling through the floor because I'm halfway on another tile. BUT! I got through the whole thing regardless! This was AWESOME.

Personal Space by ursagames 2018-08-18T03:06:24Z

Ha ha ha. What an oddly relatable game. Parties are terrible and it's always good to have an escape route prepared so you don't end up trapped in some strange bedroom with no way out. N-not that this happens ever or anything.

I see comments on the jumping. Jumping made *perfect* sense to me. Jump on furniture and climb around stuff to avoid people and definitely *not* look weird or socially awkward in the process.

Characters were funny and silly. And a little creepy. I didn't hate Karl. He actually helped me. I'm sure I didn't come across as weird by constantly pestering him for help.

It was a great feeling to finally get out of there and get some fresh air. Ahhh. Thanks for the entertaining experience.

Kzoh by witylernn 2018-08-19T04:52:23Z

WOOOO the incredibly wonderful art in this! I loved the style! It was a tough game but super amusing. The hilarity when the field turns into an extremely thin line :D Shame the restart button was F1 which browsers hate. Tweak that a bit, and you're golden.

CAVEMAN by Subsage 2018-08-17T06:23:15Z

The game looks really cool, visually. Absolutely fantastic, atmospheric music that really pumps you up and gets you into the mindset.

The game locks up every time I get within a certain range of... probably a wolf. Basically the first time the console shows "found enemy at ()". Though it's saying, for example, "found enemy at (5, 3)" and "caveman last position (5, 3)". Does it think there's an enemy at that position? Once this happens, I can no longer move any cave man.

I got close to the llamas once. I walked into one. It disappeared, and the game freaked out completely, becoming unresponsive.

Rotating the camera a full 360 degrees causes you to lose control of the camera entirely as it begins spinning endlessly.

All in all, it looks like it has potential, but it's too buggy to play in its current state.

Loot Keeper by outstar 2018-08-18T23:29:01Z

Geez, the art is so amazing. Love how many items there were to play around with. Having to keep your stats balanced, judge the value of items based on stats-per-square, etc. was a good challenge. When I noticed your game had a similar theme to mine, I absolutely had to play it, and I spent a good amount of time here. Got to level 11 before quitting. Only real negative is the same thing everyone else says: allow drag and drop. Ha ha ha! Soooo good <3

Floorspace Deprecation by Xeinix 2018-08-13T04:55:34Z

Oh no! I died! Great music. Felt like there should be some sort of feedback when you bump an enemy, or your projectiles hit them. Maybe play a sound, cause some sort of visual effect, etc. Maybe the enemies recoil a little when hit or something.

My biggest cause of death was taking damage immediately when an enemy spawns right next to me. You have no time to react when that happens, so player skill loses its edge.

Thanks for sharing your game!

Match In A Bottle by Tiberiusuciu 2018-08-23T07:05:18Z

BAMM! 13690 points! Once I got the hang of the game, I went nuts trying to go as far as I could. For some reason even though the instructions screen showed two adjacent blocks as an example of a valid "line", it didn't even occur to me to try clicking them until they were three. I had fun figuring out the powerups. Good fun fast-paced game. I like it! :D

Smoke: it's ok to feel by Lumpy 2018-08-15T01:50:33Z

I felt pretty bad for the player character. Seems like he's lost hope. I tried to make things better by picking as many positive options as I could, though I'm not sure how much of a difference it made. Interesting characters to interact with. Gorgeous art, especially the backgrounds. It was a pleasant experience basically.

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-15T02:09:29Z

@joker-v But that's like... That's basically the core gameplay mechanic. The whole point of not knowing the value before you take it is you have to weigh the risk of throwing out an item with a known value to appraise a new one. Do I toss out a 390 gp statuette in the hopes that this one if worth 400-500gp? If that wasn't there, there would be no challenge at all since you'd just immediately throw away everything bad and only take the good items.

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-17T05:59:03Z

@saoi-games Showing the minimum and maximum range of each item would have been a *great* idea. Without that info shown, the player has no idea that money bags are worth 100-260, two-square items are worth 200-500 (EDIT: Yikes, minimum value of Statue is 150. I missed that. Maaaaybe I should have bumped up the max value of a statue to make it really a wildcard or something...), and shields are worth 400-990. I really appreciated that you recognized the "risk vs reward" aspect of playing an item. Though maybe I could have made that more clear with something like "??" text on the item when it's in the NEXT box... Hmm. Anyway! I really enjoyed getting to watch someone else play the game. Unfortunately, very few friends of mine were available for play-testing. BUT! This gives me great advice to keep in mind for future projects. Thanks! Enjoyed it!

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-17T06:00:00Z

@nam-nguyen Thanks a lot for the feedback! I made a very deliberate, conscious decision to keep my scope small this time, after having run out of time in LD41 and delivering a noticeably incomplete product.

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-17T06:04:19Z

@jupiter-hadley Thanks so much Jupiter! Always so fun to see and hear your video feedback! This time I even made my game the perfect length for it <3

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-17T06:07:17Z

@EatingAlrichFreeloaders1996 Thanks a bunch! Glad you liked it! Keeping the controls simple probably paid off.

@AwiX Thanks for the feedback! The graphics were honestly the most tedious, frustrating part of this whole experience, so even hearing one person give compliments on that feels *really* good, ha ha ha. :) I loved how the audio turned out, too. I wanted it to feel like a chilled-out, low pressure experience, despite the time limit.

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-17T17:01:10Z

@nathanhoad Thanks! Definitely inspired partly by that. And partly by the concept of hoarders. This seemed like a good approach to take though.

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-19T17:15:35Z

@zicboy @shakedimus Thanks a lot for the feedback. To expand it, I'd probably want more items for sure. Maybe some bigger ones that take up three tiles. If I expanded on the item types, I"d probably then have to examine the size of the playing field. 5x5 seems just right for the time limit and types of items I have now, but maybe 6x6 would be better if there's more objects.

I was happy to keep the controls simple. I play a lot of games here where I forget the controls and miss out on some vital part of the gameplay, haha. Glad to avoid that.

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-20T02:02:55Z

@yorisfresh Yeah that's an idea I thought about yesterday. Pale green/cyan for like a top 10% value, red for bottom 10%. Something like that. Otherwise it probably takes a few playthroughs to get a feel for the system!

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-21T07:05:20Z

@yorisfresh Thanks, I agree! I may have to look into how to actually go about doing that. I'd probably have to swap to Unity or something, but with a game this simple, honestly that shouldn't be that hard.

Stash by Chris Coe 2018-08-31T18:22:06Z

@rik-thunder Got around to watching. Thanks a lot! I love seeing how others play my games. Gives me insight on what's intuitive and what isn't as much, where people struggle, etc. I feel like by now I have a great idea of where the improvements need to go, so that's cool. Anyway! Thanks a bunch, it was a fun watch. :)

@goudagames Thanks for playing! I was happy to keep it short, simple, and fun.

Second-Claw Shop by Unpoe 2018-08-18T22:33:53Z

Cool concept. Didn't run too well on my system so I didn't give it multiple playthroughs, unfortunately. Oh well! The people look cool and all. I struggled to figure out what to do at the start, and never did figure out the red button on the pink floor in the back room.

Out Of Space by BloooBird 2018-08-18T22:46:37Z

The moment I saw the announcement of the theme, my first thought was "you're in space and you run to get out of space". I didn't make a game with that line of thought... but YOU did. Bravo!

Amusing game. I did several playthroughs. Couldn't beat level 2, and I was disappointed the level select didn't allow me to ever select anything but level 1 even though I had already finished it. Oh well. Good work!

Pre Alpha Build by PlusMinus 2018-08-17T06:59:11Z

Whew, this was pretty fun. The Nope button was hilarious, and everyone should click it at least once. Just playing around with buildings, I was able to quickly figure out what each one does, for the most part, except for a couple Laboratory upgrades. I never did get very far, unfortunately. I've never been very good at this style of game. I'm a slow-paced kind of guy. :) But I definitely appreciate what you've got here. I gave it several playthroughs and enjoyed it.

Game Jam Jam Game by nathanhoad 2018-08-18T02:24:51Z

Fun stuff! Once I worked out "Paper jam", the logic behind "Traffic jam" washed over me with an odd tingling sense of dread. And after a few failed attempts, I made "Traffic jam." Ha ha ha <3

Uhh, like everyone else here, still haven't worked out Lady Marmalade. I'll give it a few more tries.

I like this. Fun and simple.

Inventory Wars by saoi-games 2018-08-17T07:38:16Z

That was pretty fun! No surprise that I'd enjoy this considering what my game was, ha ha ha :) Hmmm... something like a goal score to aim for in each level would be really cool, I think. I'm pretty sure my score was pretty great in *most* levels. Definitely not the last one, or the first one that introduced the golden "sale" books. I messed up big time on those and had a good chuckle. I enjoyed the story blurbs and the added mechanics. I went from not really knowing what I was doing in stage 1 (which was probably the intent, given the terrible quality of the items and the narrative) to feeling like I was a pro merchant. Good stuff. :)

Closing In by Luiza Engler 2018-08-15T02:44:58Z

Well... I followed the directions on your GitHub page, got it downloaded, but running it gives me a "Failed to load mono" error. Couldn't run.

Claustrophobic by Diego Burgos 2018-08-15T01:02:00Z

I made it to the end; it took me 10 attempts.

Cute game. Had some fresh challenge to it. Loved the character design. I felt the character's movement felt a bit sluggish. Kinda slow to accelerate and decelerate. I couldn't see the edges of the screen, so some UI elements were cut off, such as only seeing half of the Credits button on the main screen, and not being able to see what was in the top left corner during gameplay.

Space Invasion by Nam Nguyen 2018-08-17T07:19:49Z

WOO! Cleared all levels! I too fell prey to the WebGL memory bug, so I downloaded and PLAYED AGAIN!

Fell through the floor in the boss stage once, that was weird. Just hit Restart and tried again.

Beat the boss stage. And then I definitely wasn't a cheater at the "end". :) This was a BLAST. I had fun.

Changing spaces by Shakedimus 2018-08-18T22:05:00Z

Amusing little game. Simple "twin stick shooter" type game with a twist. Was not expecting my own bullets to hit me, and the moment I realized that was an "oh shoot!" moment, but in a good way. Gotta check your fire and make sure you keep track of loose bullets! ahahaha!

Special mode is insane and weird and imma back away from it now. :D

Claustrophobic Typist by Willyb321 2018-08-19T05:49:56Z

42 at Normal, 21 at Insane. Whew, it gets FAST! Awesome. A fun, short little game that was worth playing through a few times to try to find where it gets too fast for me to handle. No real complaints at all. Nice simple fun experience.

Smart Gecko by Zariel 2018-08-15T02:05:25Z

Bonus points for little lizards. I too was a little frustrated by the move-too-quickly-and-don't-eat-fly bug, but I learned to work around it and completed all stages just fine. Loved the level design. Didn't really feel like there was much of a difficulty progression though. But that's probably an issue of keeping it simple in scope so you could complete the game for LDJam. Very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing this.

Ball Out Of Space!!Finish them! by Joker_v 2018-08-17T06:38:13Z

Amusing little game! After a botched Level 3, I figured out a strategy pretty quickly of targeting one of the two colors specifically to cut off reproduction, and then I could take my time in culling the rest... of... oh god have I become a monster? :D Fun enough gameplay. Seems though once an item is maxed out in your inventory, the stock won't decrease when you use one. So once you manage to get 5 bombs, you'll always have 5 bombs. Or something like that. Oh well! Still had fun and cleared the whole thing.

After Halt Mini by croben 2018-08-15T01:25:18Z

Cute characters, even the enemies.

I enjoyed the variety of projectiles I could shoot at things. Some of them were outright hilarious. Though the period of time you stand there before the projectile fires makes it extremely easy to miss.

I made it to the second stage one time. Even on the first stage, enemies seemed hard to kill and could quickly overwhelm you.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Just Bill by gamedevbynight 2018-04-25T19:44:22Z

Decent little game. Went all the way through to the end. Wasn't sure what the intended solution was for a couple of them so I ended up just brute forcing my way through by constructing little platforms to bypass some stuff. Oh well!

Blast Me To The Finish by loyance 2018-04-24T04:21:49Z

Pretty nifty concept. To me though, it was very challenging. I couldn't complete a lap without cheats. Groovy music and background.

A Tavern Life by Paula 2018-04-25T19:22:51Z

Pretty good! Restarting from the in-game menu seems to start you over and not get any customers unfortunately. Game can get a little hectic sometimes. Don't forget to pay your employees! Haha. :)

Firun by Novella 2018-04-25T19:52:38Z

Oh, so it's like a top-down view endless runner! Neat concept. Reached a point fairly quickly though where the difficulty didn't seem to be increasing any, so I ended prematurely. I wasn't sure what the coins were for until I died and saw a score. Oh well! Cute concept.

Rythm is Lava by egordorichev 2018-04-24T05:17:13Z

Very challenging. There were some rooms I just couldn't wrap my head around. At first I thought it was just a cute linear puzzle game. Then I started getting to the branching paths, and the shop, and... How deep does this rabbit hole go? hahaha.

Love Love! Space Attack by Random-storykeeper 2018-04-25T20:08:46Z

What a cute concept! Fun little shoot-em-up, cute bouncy music, obvious metaphor for breaking past the barriers of the heart. Difficulty starts ramping up a bit fast. Pretty fun OH GOD WHAT IS HAPPENI

Pix Eliz Great Curse of the Cards by mat1er 2018-04-25T22:40:43Z

Interesting idea but in practice it was pretty tedious. To be fair though, this Ludum Dare's theme encouraged that. I liked the jumping puzzles toward the end, having to figure out which combinations of cards to use, and in what order, to achieve the effect desired.

Rogue Princess by ladybenko 2018-04-25T20:00:19Z

Cute and short! Couldn't figure out if there was any way to bypass slimes, so I brute-forced it. I've been crowned the prettiest princess! WOO!

Turn-Based Invaders from Space! by HacksawUnit 2018-04-24T05:03:37Z

Got to level 7! Got so close to clearing the whole screen, but one white ship cornered me. Man, this is really, really fun. I played several rounds. Fantastic graphics, sound, and gameplay all around.

Cornivore by nardandas 2018-04-25T21:56:20Z

I think I screwed myself over by digging too many holes. Couldn't handle the worms! Haha. I think fruits are sometimes falling through the floor when you harvest a plant, and I can get infinite fertilizer at no cost.

Quest Sweeper by TheM 2018-04-25T18:47:29Z

This is pretty neat. Little issue in that you can't click and reveal a tile you know to be trap-free but isn't on the edge of your explored area, particularly shows up in the form of diagonals. So you have to sacrifice a health point to venture beyond. Thankfully there were plenty of potions to go around. I liked it. Mechanics were pretty clever, and I liked having to think about what's going on in each zone.

Fish Fighter by GiovanniBarrottu 2018-04-24T04:30:31Z

Hilarious concept. Game keeps hanging after my fourth catch or so, and I'm stuck underwater with nothing to kill. It was tricky to figure out that the game wanted me to pick a rod and gun at the start (the text over the player was too small) but once I figured it out, controls were fairly straightforward.

Guan's Island by Chris Coe 2018-04-24T05:41:41Z

Thank you @Diego-Escalante and @Albuquerque . I guess I introduced a last minute bug by mistake when I re-uploaded right before the deadline. I had gone in to change a single tile, but I guess I also apparently scrapped an unused item to make things cleaner. Welp, apparently it was still being referenced in a piece of code somewhere. Sorry!

Guan's Island by Chris Coe 2018-04-24T05:51:03Z

@Albuquerque @diego-escalante Patch is already up if you're interested. Thanks again!

Guan's Island by Chris Coe 2018-04-26T00:40:46Z

@hatchet I definitely agree about the jumping mechanics. But since this was literally my first time making something in GameMaker, and I was learning as I went, and I had a very strict deadline, fancy Mario-esque jumps did not end up on my to-do list! haha :)

Guan's Island by Chris Coe 2018-04-28T04:05:35Z

@Unentokku I agree about the backgrounds. Looking back, the maps with even a slightly speckled background feel way better than pure black. WASD is a good idea. I wonder if there's a better key than Space for jump to work with WASD. And I can't believe I never found that place where you can get on the temple roof. That would make an awesome place for a secret item or easter egg!

@erebus Definitely agree. Part of the issue was diving into this with literally no plan and making it up as I went, haha. But hey, INCOMPATIBLE GENRES! :D I was originally going to have hint orbs that would help guide you a bit, but they didn't make the deadline.

LogiCars by Corqi 2018-04-25T18:33:08Z

Hoo boy, lemme just start by saying you absolutely NAILED the theme! This is an extremely challenging game due to the mixture of fast-paced action and slow-paced observational puzzling skill. I think my reflexes aren't quite up to the challenge. :)

Puzzle Prizon by Walter Mays 2018-04-25T20:14:28Z

Blocks are a bit too easy to push. Had to restart on the second level after accidentally pushing a block into a wall when I was trying to walk around it. On the fourth level, the graphics of the stage didn't load. It sounded like I was still moving around since I heard my footsteps and the sound of pushing a block; I just couldn't see anything but the blank purple background inside the square gameplay frame.

Puzzle Prizon by Walter Mays 2018-04-26T00:48:00Z

@Walter-mays Definitely willing to help, if I can figure this out. So I ran puzzleprizon.exe from my command line. Game ran. Wasn't getting any output from it in the command prompt window. Level 3 was the one that bugged this time...

Puzzle Prizon by Walter Mays 2018-04-26T01:43:26Z

@walter-mays Interestingly the issue seems to only happen with the windows .exe. Several runs of the .love version and I'm not getting any graphical bugs whatsoever.

Puzzled and Dating a Monster by John Darrington 2018-04-24T05:36:43Z

Pretty funny interactions. Played through several times to see what happens. Seems these aren't the, er, 'good' kind of monsters, haha. Neat music and graphics, but great writing.

Falling Labyrinth by LarrySeinfeld 2018-04-25T18:24:51Z

This is amazing. Incredibly creative. I love first person dungeon crawlers so this attracted me at first screenshot. Combat seems difficult, and I have yet to actually complete the game as a result, but I've given it several plays so far and really enjoy the mechanics. Enemies are humorous. Well done overall.

Fintastic Escape by ImDivingDeep 2018-04-24T04:13:01Z

This was kinda fun! Never would have thought of using fishing for something like this. Game has a nice look and atmosphere, puzzles were clever, overall very pleasant.

Beat Platformers Up by atsuzaki 2018-04-24T04:45:28Z

Very interesting. Took me a few plays to understand how to control the guy, even with the instructions given. I feel like maybe there's too many enemies, so I don't get much of a chance to really practice ascending. Very unique mechanic, but very difficult.

Love and Hate in Hell Café by Siuler LM 2018-04-25T20:41:58Z

Cute concept. It started off pretty fun, but as more and more colors got added, it became very tedious since it was increasingly difficult to find either a match or an anti-match. Everyone pretty much just had no interest/opinion on everyone else! haha. Oh well.
