Really nice game with nice graphics and fun gameplay, but it lacks some explanation about what is the goal of the game.

thyshimrod 2017-08-01 11:51

Difficult to right understand what to do. I believe that running out of power was about the lighttorch, but it seems it is upon life. Is it right?

Amazing! I really enjoyed the game, nice graphic and level design. I found a glitch in the second key's door, for the rest really nice. So, leave me alone, I need to finish the game :D

ramkey 2017-08-01 21:12

The level design was awesome, and I like the idea that someone actually made a horor game ( but one that realy has some scariness in it ). Sounds fit the game in an extreme way. LIKE !

rapter 2017-08-01 21:22

AWESOME IDEA, good game =) Congratulations 5/5 !!! GOOD LUCK ^..^

manumeq 2017-08-01 22:30

Really nice mood, graphics and sound effects (those screams gave me the chills). I think the gameplay is pretty simple and easy to understand though I would love to see a bit more of explanation about the goal of our protagonist. The only thing that felt off to me was the attack animation, which is pretty and really well done but doesn't exactly give you the feelling of feedback that makes you fell like you are actually attacking something (I wouldn't now how to improve it myself, so just take it as a friendly remark, rather than feedback xD) Keep up the good work!

ikiste3d 2017-08-01 22:50

Nice to see a horror game coming out of that theme. The screaming ladies ambushed me at the yellow key door, so it would be nice if there was a way of pushing them out of the way with the hammer. Other than that, nice job with graphics and audio!

pixelformedstudios 2017-08-01 22:53

Loved the lighting and the graphics added very nicely to the dark mood. Took a while to find the pistol xD Very good game, one of the best and most polished I have seen so far!

damoy 2017-08-01 23:03

Nice game, lights, enemies, guns, like the approach of the theme, congratz !

thygrrr 2017-08-01 23:05

Wow, that's a huge Team :) And I am a little colour blind, so at first I thought I was battling Yodas with those Head Traps from SAW, but later realized they are crazed little girls.

Like: - proper menu, very amazing font - great lighting - fluid movement - interactive environment - enemies spawn everywhere.... arrrrgh

Try differently: - player moves and stops with no inertia. this makes the game play a little jaggy. - it's hard to tell if I'm really breaking something with the hammer - consider adding more juice (see video at the bottom) - enemies are really tough - am I dead?

Overall: - elaborate horror game - dark and scary ambiente - very moody

Here's a video tip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkgkIXZ_13Y

chris-coe 2017-08-02 02:48

A bit scary for my taste perhaps, but I gave it a good shot. I had to put it in windowed mode and lower the volume. You could probably take that as a compliment! Hehe. It was dark, but maybe a little TOO dark sometimes. Really hard to see what I was doing. The only weapon I found was the handgun near the start. Doesn't look like you can swap back to the hammer, so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be able to break anything else.

Thanks for being part of the stream :)

Good game. I raced through it at the start because I didn't know that you can actually recharge torch. Need blood when I whack those little knife carrying girls with my hammer.

jason200101 2017-08-02 13:52

Awsome game! The characters were well made, the puzzles were nice, you were rewarded for smashing those cabinets, the backstory was nice (even though she would have to murder someone in order to have lost such amount of sanity, in the extend of feeling pain by it!), and there was a lot of detail went to it too! (Like when you picked up the key in the room full of pianos, they made a circle around you!)

The sounds also fitted the game, enemies can only spawn in the dark by what I realized (which is cool!), and the "game over" scene was well made! (but you can still fire at them and the moving animation keeps playing. You can't kill them, but it would be nice to not be able to shoot them either)

Also the ending fading white is wrongly positioned. The far right corner of it is at the middle of the screen, so only a quarter is turned white. And you can keep the red key after you die. Probably the other ones too, but I didn't check...

Overall, this is an awsome game! I just have bugs to report. In gameplay I found nothing wrong, and that is very hard to achive! Good job!

dayna-stevenson 2017-08-02 20:28

It was a little too dark for me to see what I was doing, though (even with my brightness maxed), so I had trouble making it very far--just the same, I enjoyed it ^^

silvae 2017-08-02 22:15

I had a good time playing this. I enjoyed the level design and the mood felt just right. The only issue I had was that I had trouble finding doors due to the lack of light but that seems like a design decision. Nice work.

jannes-nagel 2017-08-03 02:31

Nice spooky game! I like the of a lovecraftian style sanity mechanic for this theme!

Keep up the good work!

wheffle 2017-08-03 04:55

Nice job making this game pretty creepy. I enjoyed it! I love the Amnesia style sanity meter, it was a clever idea for this LD's theme. The guns could be a little more satisfying to use (some audio feedback when you land a hit, maybe make them a little more powerful, not sure). The music was also a little repetitive, but I understand your focus isn't going to be on audio very much for a game jam. Loved the death sequence haha. Glad to have found this, keep it up!

yuigoto 2017-08-03 06:19

Really creepy, and it's got a really nice atmosphere! :D It kinda reminded me, as the above feedback said, of Amnesia, but also of the Clock Tower series too! Keeping your sanity, while managing power is a nice concept, it's been used before, but it's always good when someone can bring their own touch to the genre! :D

Shooting and hammering felt a bit slow to me, but overall controls felt really nice to play! Level design is really great, but what if you could make it roguelike? The experience could also become totally random, and you could even jumpscare a bit! :D

Overall, I did like the work you've done here and it's great! The lighting also looked really great for me here!

Congrats! Cheers! ;)

lerpish 2017-08-03 12:02

the game is really fun i had a great time playing it but it lacked some instructions

thirrash 2017-08-03 13:52

Fantastic concept, I really had tons of fun playing the game. Definietely the best thing is the mood but whole game is one of the best of LD39. Good job!

thefunattic 2017-08-03 19:32

Hey there !

Neat game. I like the concept of losing your sanity, it really does add to the "horror" side of the game. I was pretty spooked in my dark bedroom.

I know there's little point to suggesting changes, I can't know if you'll keep working on it, but what the hell ! The idea behind the game is cool, and the execution of that idea could be vastly improved upon !

- Randomly generate the layout for extra replayability. - Add some random events like jumpscares to knock the player off-balance. - Balance the combat a bit more or lower the spawn rate so that you don't get overwhelmed early on. - Add a reward for killing enemies, like extra sanity : right now the best seems to be to avoid them and run for the next door.

There you go mate. Great work indeed !

bobbytables 2017-08-04 03:05

Game was a blast! Warning: Spoiler Alert. I loved the part where I was running endlessly down a tunnel until I turned back; very well done!

We streamed your game with Danae plays on Twitch. :) Here's a link:

[Danae streams Ludum Dare 39: Day 1, part 1: Keep Your Sanity](https://youtu.be/4KfQtLDzK-g?t=2h3m22s)

It was not always very clear what was going on in this game. Obviously the darkness should hide a lot of the enemies, and that's alright. But I didn't realise the meter above my head was my sanity. I suppose the flashlight losing charge was a scripted event? Reading the description now I can see you explain some of these mechanics, but it would be nice in the game as well. A UI for displaying all the weapons I am carrying along with their number on the keyboard would have been nice. A lot more variety in the enemies – as far as I can tell, there were only two types, and the second was a very short appearance. Little problems like this made the intended horror atmosphere less visible. Making the enemies much more rare and individually stronger, adding shadows cast from objects, adding line of sight, hiding areas of the map which aren't visible (i.e. behind the walls), varying the map a little bit (different floor types, more house-like / dungeon-like layout), having to conserve ammo – all of these could potentially make the atmosphere better. And a proper ending of course :) Having said all of that, I still enjoyed beating the game. Good job :)

sythgara 2017-08-04 18:13

You got a decent atmosphere going in here. The only thing I didn't like was the scream audio. Sounded a bit as if it could have been clipping, or at least the quality of it.

zdeno 2017-08-04 21:52

Hi guys,

I like visual style of your game. I love relatively simple and uniform graphics! Your work with the light/darkness is really nice and it forces the player to constantly rotate around and look for threats.

When making horror it is the work with the sound that makes the most impact at the end. I would recommend spending big part of your time on sound design. The audio in your game unfortunately felt quite repetitive after a while and as a result it didn't have the effect that it could have had. Just imagine something like this:

1. You enter the dark room and the music slowly fades away until there is complete silence. You can hear only your own footsteps. 2. There is only one doors on the other side of the room so you go there. 3. When you try to open them the doors explode and some huge ghost attacks you screaming and destroying everything in its path.

I know it is a lot of work to implement similar behaviour into the game, but I think it is completely worth it! If you want to create horror games, try to think about them same as you would think about a horror movie. Check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuvJuLs6eBA&t , it could help you design powerfull jumpscares and at the end create really scary games!

I hope I'll see more scary stuff from you soon! Thanks for sharing the game with us!

Pretty cool

stuartmd 2017-08-06 14:07

Loved how the initial sound effects set the tone and had me immediately on edge, and I spent a few tries working out what strategy to use (argh! run run run!) :D

rikoclon 2017-08-06 17:07

You set the mood nicely with the lighting and sound! I'm not sure how running out of power fit in. The art was creepy enough, not exactly eye popping, but it definitely got the job done for a jam. The doors were a little weird, but did not hurt the game play, so it's all good there. I would have liked to be able to attack the bad guys or trap them somehow. It just seems like they were bound to overwhelm you. The scream sounded stock, so that's either a good thing if you made it or a bad thing if it was found, but either way it was very redundant. it sounded like you played on that redundancy in the player death sequence. It could have done with some variation of pitch, or other effects. SFX like panting, whispers, breathing, muffled cries, would have helped to keep the scream from sounding redundant. I know there were other sounds in the game but that's the only one I remember now. Great job making a game tho!

check out my all time fav horror game Splatter House 2 the sounds have white noise to create distortion as well as some reverb/delay to help make the sounds interesting even if they only allocate 1 or 2 sounds per enemy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGnMtGEOti4

schizoid2k 2017-08-08 14:56

Nice dark mood. Graphics, sound, and music were well done.
