LD38 — A Small World

Goodbye, world! by chromableedstudios 2017-08-01T21:24:49Z

Pretty funny game, I most enjoyed pulling of shots that hit enemy on the other side. Fixed number of players isn't really something worth complaining. The problem that should be adressed is some players may never be able to shoot, and players on the edge tend to have an advantage.

LD39 — Running out of Power

Inefficient Plasma Weapon by schizoid2k 2017-08-02T15:53:00Z

Very simple, although making enemies to crash instead of shooting is interesting. Some better indication of what is safe and what is not would be great (just change the sprites to be more suggestive.) Steering was challenging, but it's more than OK to me. You could try inventing some additional mechanincs to make game stand out more from asteroids-like games.

Lights Escape by Antiwrapper 2017-08-02T18:00:55Z

This game, albeit simple is very fun. It's very coherent: learning mechanics step by step, tutorials are on point, there are 10 levels and it has sliders for sounds (thank you! :D) Levels design is **very** clever. I especially liked the "don't be afraid" level. They are hard, but rewarding when u make it in the dark. What I didn't like is light being taken when you were moving towards wall (but not really moving), and I think on same levels given light wasn't enough. Good entry, hope other will notice this game too.

Supernode by Dustyroom 2017-08-02T19:42:41Z

Great idea. Music is realaxing and gameplay is so pleasant. Definitely worth a shoot releasing this game on mobile. And by the way, you could add some indication when there circle nodes are gonna disappear.

Truck, Fuel my Rockets by garethjenkins 2017-08-02T16:22:20Z

First of all, controls are not intuitive. It's not like you can't get used to them (I got), but I haven't seen other games with that control scheme, so better keep to known standards. Also, when rotating when at zero velocity, I could easily lose a lot of fuel, that should be fixed. Bot AI is really decent, they try to hit you, but not endlessly, they don't get bugged. Interaction between you and your enemies is really fun, and if you want to make real game from this, you should focus on that. Maybe adding multiplayer and more interaction could add more to this game.

About balance. For me, it wasn't really hard to get past 30, but it was **too long damn time**. Better increase fuel lost amount, so the 'hard point' is about 10 level.

Music was fine, it didn't make me mad or irritated.

Also, try rating other devs' games too, then more people will be able to rate your game.

I almost forgot. Sounds made by trucks and rockets are absolutely splendid xD

The Trash Bin That Could by mathijs750 2017-08-07T18:04:21Z

I have mixed feeling about this. Graphics are well done, you got some levels made which look good. Sound effects are also pretty cool. But the movement speed speed was **so** unsatisfactory slow for me. I know that's the robot bin, but still. Levels were designed pretty well too, but considering our speed dodging lights wasn't that fun.

And well, don't get discouraged by my mean comment, maybe I don't see all good things. Try to experiment with robot stats, maybe it will be the change for good.

Crownless by Galan 2017-08-02T19:18:17Z

I'm a little surprised it's so short, it seemed to me that adding square here, and enemy there isn't that time consuming. Great interpretation of the theme though. Style is also something to admire.

Solar Racers! by blackquiltro 2017-08-01T22:05:28Z

Nice game, I enjoyed racing agaist top racers (really top racers, I couldn't get past 5 pos). Some balancing should be made to the solar spots - for the first moment thought they are bugged, the restored power was too low. Wall colliders felt a bit clunky, I often ended up rotated backwards. Maybe making it multiplayer could help the game. Steering was really enjoable and skillful.

PLASMAGUN! by yuigoto 2017-08-02T19:32:30Z

I'll first start from what I didn't like, then I'll move on to pleasant things :D Sometimes, I guess when standing near wall, my gun just wouldn't shoot, or the bullets were disappearing, but I guess it's just neglible collider issue. The view was for me a bit confusing, as I could see my whole character, but walls just from top. Some balancing is needed. Bots take 3hp, which basically allows me to win level just by headbutting into the bots :D And as gwinell said before, I also didn't feel need to use dash - bots should outspeed you if we are ever to use it. And don't get discouraged, all those issues can be easily fixed.

Camera movement, and camera shake is great though. It fits theme, and it's climatic on it's own way. Explosion effects are also very cool.

Edit: it's always nice to hear someone using own music, especially of this genre ;)

Space Dog by Thygrrr 2017-08-02T16:54:57Z

Holy... The game is amazing. It's intense and very well balanced. Graphics are great, and I love the ship design. Gameplay is well-thought, everything is clear. The most coherent project I played so far. The only bad thing I experienced is sound of letters was a bit too loud and irritating, I also couldn't see first letters of instructions. But sweet Jesus, it's nothing compared to the rest. Very well done!

Zombies 'n Kebabs by alaah 2017-08-02T09:40:20Z

It would be better off to your game if the energy system was rethinked. Only way to restore energy (unless I'm missing something) is not jumping/shooting. But then you die. Some energy power-ups or energy restoration after killing enemy would be great. I immediately knew how to used potrals. The Pony-Kebab-Zombie mash-up, albeit weird, is interesting. Great music, and fantastic pixel graphics. And of course + points for kebabs.

Remote by oab 2017-08-03T09:59:23Z

Hillarious idea, graphics, sounds and animation fit together very well. For me, it was a bit too easy. Nice job!

Devil On Rails by FiloGC 2017-08-03T17:48:41Z

The music is great, animations are well-made for such short amount of time. The game climate is good, somehow devil, fighting countless flow of enemis and devil fit together. It's also a nice surprise to see a fighting me (I guess I've seen only one so far on this jam).

The gameplay however is a bit disappointing. There should be constant flow of enemies according to your idea, but not like one every second or less from 2 sides. You made a lot of attacks, but maybe you should focus on 2 skills instead of 4. Dash is cool, but I can spam it endlessly. Also ranged attack seems to do nothing, while melee doesn't feel good because of its long wind up time. Didn't feel the effect of block either.

However, don't be disappointed, fighting games are hard to made, especially in this short time, I think you should focus on the core, then add many cool things. And despite my long list of complaints, the game is really above the average on this jam :D

Every Light Goes Out by sbeif 2017-08-01T21:48:07Z

Wow, the idea is absolutely brilliant, almost couldn't believe you made it during jam. After 2 tries I figured out how to manage keyboard and flashlight. When turned off all lights, it worked almost flawlessly. About not having webcam, I believe there exist some software that will allow you to use your phone as camera. Nevertheless, the game without this kind of input is nothing extraordinary. Really enjoyed waving flashlight back and forth.

Does Size Matter ? by HakunaMacouta 2017-08-07T21:27:07Z

Well, there's definitely issue with keyboard layout. Jump is on z, and left is on q, but that's just minor thing than can be fixed anytime. Style is good, and announcer is godlike xD Interesting approach on the theme - making versus game with degrading weapons. Movement is fluid and jumpy, but maybe a little too jumpy. Still, very fun game to play :)

Candy Wars by Jason200101 2017-08-02T09:02:56Z

I really love idea of creating game with story on jam. Dailogues are fun, and easy to follow. Graphics are ok, only the background hurt me. Would be nice if there was option to skil dialogue, or make it go faster. Some more interaction/choices would be cool too, but I understand you can't make so many endings and paths during jam. BRING MORE CHERRIES!

Candy Wars by Jason200101 2017-08-02T10:01:54Z

@jason200101 Thanks for replaying. That's completly true, that's why I've written I understand that. It's still very well done taking into consideration that a lot of games have only one short level (absolutely not talking about my game :D) I was also thinking about adding some choices that doesn't change much or nothing at all - but on the other hand it could make player feel his decision doesn't affect gameplay.

And I really haven't eaten breakfast today.

Last Wish by leesoar07 2017-08-07T21:07:45Z

Wow, the style is amazing, it's very unique, and very pleasant to the eye. The idea of switching screens is brilliant. It maybe sometimes unpredictable, but it worked enough for me to solve these little puzles. The mood is great and the ending is touching :D The music however, I assume you aren't doing it for much time. There were mostly single notes, that made it a little less interesting. But then, congratulations on your courage to put it in the game. Very atmospheric entry :)

Salvage! by frankiesmileshow 2017-08-04T12:50:47Z

Wow, that's one of the most polished and coherent games I've seen on this game jam. Graphics are cool, they fit together well. I don't particularly like the music but it goes well with the theme of exploring, and the sounds are really good. Gameplay is fun, the world is vast, and you can play this quite a long time which is extraordinary on jams. All weapon works, and they serve their purpouse. I don't agree with that comment above about weapon finding balance - providing you don't shoot everything like madman, it's ok. I also don't mind parts making you heavy as hell - game is already pretty easy and this put extra swat. Neither did I have a problem with finding parts.

The only drawback for me, is the energy. I got 500 of this, sometimes I went down to 450, sometimes I was above. Why would I even care about its level, if I don't ever get close to depleting it.

Beside this, it's one of the best entries on LD39, great job!

Quest by Scrumplesplunge 2017-08-07T21:53:54Z

Vim. Jesus Christ, you did it in vim? Guys he made it from scratch in vim, that's something worth admiring xD On a serious note, game is easy, short, straightforward and pleasant. Tutorials were cool. Maybe making more levels instead of skins would be better idea. And well, maybe chosing some other tool to create game would allow you to create much more vast world.

Berzerk Hunt by TheFunAttic 2017-08-03T18:55:34Z

Ho-ly-cow. I'll start from bad things, to overwhelm you with praises spam later :D Mouse is invisible in the white background, it hurts, as aiming is important. The 'back to menu button' - I was searching for it for good minute. And sometimes I got stuck in the right side, as my character was constantly moving there.

But other than that... Game is absolutely fantastic. Everything fits together perfectly. Graphics and animations are awesome, especially death. Game is well-balanced, spawn ratio is good. When I use skill, I feel I'm using mighty viking's strength. Dash, throw, growl - everything is great. Gameplay on itself is awesome. Transition from losing power to rage-fury-hunger thing is great. For me personally best entry so far, I really derived pleasure from playing your game :D

Back Home by Angry Squirrels 2017-08-02T15:00:07Z

Wow, you've got some pretty polished graphics. The theme of flight, visuals and audio made game really dreamy. Flying as squirell was very relaxing. On the other hand some indication of speed other than camera placement would be appreciated. Also, I could easily get consfused when entering tunnels under various angles. Nevertheless, it's very good entry, and issues I mentioned are really negligible.

Professional Protesters by MartinTristan 2017-08-02T09:28:52Z

As for clicker game it's pretty good. I really like the idea, that lost power is energy of the protesters. The "Hey!" sign and protesting about everything being free - it's just gold, extremly funny. One more thing to point out is tutorial - it's really great. Don't like clickers, but it could be solid Android game.

Sunseeker by Surovyi 2017-08-02T19:08:59Z

Great music and graphics. I really like the things happening in the background, catapults and stuff. It's cool we have some ai friends, better if their reaction range was bigger. And gameplay... hmm it was a bit dull. I just kept left-clicking on enemies and spamming right on cooldown. It's a pretty good start, but some core mechanics could be re-thinked, maybe you should focus more one energy resource managment or add other stuff?

AI; ace intelligence by baconsenpaii 2017-08-03T11:44:39Z

I'm glad to see a card game, haven't seen one on this game jam yet. Nice usage of existing real cards and assigning roles to each suit and value(I guess it got it's name). As you mentioned tooltips helped **a lot**. On normal I pretty fast found winning strategy, so good there are harder levels. Really hard to find the drawback for me, rng is like in every other card game, nothing I can complain at. Maybe use custom cards instead of the original ones? Great entry dude.

Lost Light by fillefilip8 2017-08-22T13:58:00Z

Sound effect is great, feeling of enemy killing you from behind is cool also. Battery drains at good rate. Only and main problem is the aim indicator. I have no clue, where I am aiming, and if I happen to have mouse very close to my character things can get really dizzy.

Mr. Blue by VitasaMode 2017-08-07T21:46:08Z

Very interesting idea. Animations are cool, and music fits the style, making it really moody. It's quite funny, animation of fist bumping girl killed me xD The controls, however, were not that precise. I often ended up doing handshake in the air, even though I was ceratin, I'm in front of guy. Maybe adjust moving speed, or decrease number of rows enemy can spawn on. And I don't know if it was intended, you could really make a gesture with more than one character, often in the large area. Beside that, very funny game :)

Dont ask me to stop being a outdated junkrobot by Ludic Studios 2017-08-04T16:56:43Z

Sweet Jesus, I really enjoyed this game. It's like I kept playing for 15 minutes, kept pressing restart just to 'play one more'. I was shouting, swearing, as I was dying on one hit, but it's more than ok to me. This game has, that not every game out there do have: you just feel the gameplay. You slash left and right, do sick moves, flash around battlefield. Graphics are cool too, they fit all the theme. Just be careful about the music. Making music with sounds out of tune can be very dangerous, and I don't think it really fit the game style. But overall, dude, one of the best entries so far.

Electric Castle by Mr Marcgenesis 2017-08-02T18:46:58Z

Simple platformer, however well designed. Energy and boost for each level is greatly balanced. Levels later are hard, but you need just patience. Good humour and puns. I don't understand end screen tho, saying how many boosts I collected. I thought, they are just for survival, not the collectibles for top score, therefore I just left them aside. Taking into consideration you were doing solo and it was your first game jam, it's solid entry.

People are the power by ElGregos 2017-08-07T17:49:03Z

Although I don't really like games with this type of graphics, this one was quite good. The approach to the theme was very well done. Capturing humans for energy is witty, and the actual balanace between energy used and energy gathered is pretty well executed. As for drawbacks, lasers were sometimes changing too fast, and some better feedback regarding weapons used or needed energy would be nice. Still, very well done, grab that 20th vote ;)

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Uncanny Dodge by Dubgron 2017-12-06T17:25:45Z

Very clever idea and apporach to the theme. The game isn't really hard - what make this game hard are unintuitive controls and the lack of feedback. Unless that's point of the game, you should display which clone is which, or even draw letters on them so you could easily distinguish between them. Also, pillars collider are somehow irritating, as you die upon touching them, not getting smashed by them. Beside that, fun simple game.

The burden by mathijs750 2017-12-10T20:17:14Z

Very interesting, too bad you couldn't finish it on time. To start with, atmosphere is absolutely amazing. I really felt as if I were on a mystical and mysterious journey. Music greatly helped in creating this mood. Unfortunately, game lacks an actual gameplay. I just walk around and collect stuff, and absolutely don't know what is it for. Also, couldn't feel the theme, but reading from your post beware: just slowing down player could be frustrating and irritating mechanic, the same with the light that just obscure screen.

Absolutely great start considering mood, it's a solid base to create story-based game, but it needs to be a GAME. Also consider some clarity improvements (end screen, what does glimmering stuff do).

H3X F0R H1R3 by cakeknuckles 2017-12-06T00:06:48Z

Oh boy, that game is hillarious. I loved intro, all the names (The void, ms pain and so on). And beside all, "always remember to have a safe hex". Drawing symbols is cool, but I didn't have clear feedback if I do it ok or not. Couldn't really feel negative effects, and it was more like "do more good things than bad" than "the more you have, the worse it is". As it always is with those games, is insanely fun at start, and once you discover everything it gets tedious. Anyway, it's insanely fun and moody, good job!

Deckest Dungeon by huminaboz 2017-12-05T23:09:06Z

Great name. Seeing a card game that is finished on jam is also nice. What's best is probably UI. It's meticulously crafted, I can see all relevant stats and the counter circle, everything is responsible and cool. Animations are also pretty nice. Something to point out is I can't see a difference between attacking with various characters (ex. using spiritual attack with both of my characters on the same enemy generated the same effect), but I could be missing something. To my mind, the approach to the theme is a bit too vague. Other than that, very well-made, complete entry.

Dandelion Rush by Raphael Huot 2017-12-10T19:56:23Z

Pretty fun idea, and tbh it incorporates the theme really well. Thing is it's really harder when it's more, but u have an actual way to make a comeback so it's great. The randoming algorithm seems to the biggest problem here, but during jam you don't really have time to polish it and that's understandable. Things to consider are adjusting it so you can't lose due to not having any chance, and maybe platforms should spawn a bit faster. Graphics are ok, effect of dying was pretty cool tho. Good job on your first entry!

Pain Reaction by Dr. Binary 2017-12-05T23:36:26Z

Wow, I really had a lot of fun playing this game. Reminds me of some old mobile game, where u had to constantly disarm bombs. The game suits the theme well, is fun and engages player in gameplay. Sounds are cool, music is good. However, it lacks some explanation when does the small reactors turn into bigger ones and how does distance between reactors impact gameplay, or how is putting them in other parts of map changes the game (if it does it at all). Beside that, great game, I have sore wrist now ;(

The Cult of Refrigodrator by mochakingup 2017-12-06T18:18:48Z

The game is really polished. You got a lot of skills, and they all work and look cool, UI looks nice, though it lacks information about when we are taking damage and other stuff other people already mentioned. AI is great for the jam, also I rarely get stuck in between units.

The bigest flaw though, is the gameplay. I expected, that I gonna gradually grow my cult, fight with hunger and manage to get 100 by the day 30. The problem is, the hunger consumption grows much faster than the ability to convert townspeople. I ended up just slaying townsepeople and cultist alike to gather a lot of food, and rush to 100 when I was getting close to day 30. Also, it was dissapointing to get over 100 before day 30 and still lose. Something should be rethink there.

I listed a lot of harsh feedback, but beside that, the game is absolutely awesome. Cult/following theme is always great. Gaphics, music, UI, skills and AI stand out much above other games on this jam. Really well-done!

Brilliance by Kobrar 2017-12-10T22:05:48Z

As it is in most cases when the difficulty is taken into accout, I cannot agree with posts above. The game is hard, but absolutely managable. The thing that most people probably didn't get, is that you just need to stick to the color that isn't present in defence, absorb all the bullets, then shoot. Not that hard for me. Idea is great, and it feels good.

The key mapping is the real issue tho. When you steer with a/d, shooting on w is kinda not natural, switching colors was ok, but I believe some better mapping could be created.

Second thing is UI. You can't expect player to focus on 5/6 colors and watch at hp written in number in the top left corner. Any hp bar, or even that number should be displayed on our character.

Also, as someone mentioned, while colors can be somehow distinguished, you can't always do it clear and fast.

Beside those issues, great fun game!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Tower of Sacrifice by notime4games 2018-12-29T00:02:16Z

Cool old-school platformer. I found the combat not entirely satysfying, as it was just mashing attack button with going back occasionally. Maybe different animation for mid-air attack? Or any mechanic that could make the combat a little less repetetive, something that wouldn't cost you too much work (it's still a game jam entry.) Giving your blood is cool, but I believe here the concept is not well thought. Of course, you sacrifice your health, making you more vulnerable, but nothing stops you from sacrificing a little, then attacking and going back. This is more like resource management, than sacrifice. Yet, I enjoyed the style. Controls seem responsive, just as they should in platformer. Jump grading seems cool too, it's not new concept, dunno why others found it weird/not intuitive :)

COOLTits by Artur Majewski 2018-12-30T18:40:35Z

@cheetah @jessmend815 @302-dave @deathstorm Thank you for your comments. Our initial intetnion was the symbols shouldn't be too straightforward, as people tend to misinterpretate signs from the gods. But true, in the course of the game symbols should have their names written, so you could better know what option you are chosing.

King Of The Building by Tiberiusuciu 2018-12-30T22:05:34Z

Cool, coherent game. I like the tutorial, the UI is very informative, as the warning when you are about to lose.

Actually, I think that gameplay would benefit from the reverse mechanic: the line would go slower if you DON'T hit anyone. I mean, hitting someone when you are on a platform is no big deal, but dodging some other guy would be skillful.

It maybe woulnd't fit the theme this way, but the gameplay would be more interesting. Always you could think of it as a sacrifice of your persona to save the others. Even if it sounds bad, I would think of anything else. I represent the view, where you first create good gameplay and then add the story that fits it well :)

The piano beside being a little repetetive, was very relaxing, so + for you :D

Internal Affairs by AMastryukov 2018-12-28T19:29:39Z

Interesting grasp on the theme. Building game around Soviet Russia is just to good opportunity to miss out.

I really felt there was a bit more to the stats I'm adding and substracting. Till the end of the game, when I'm presented a nice short story what happened to me, those numbers are quite meaningless. Also, the game is quite random. It's fine, as I have to make decisions in advance. But if I have 15 of some stat, keep on losing it, and I never get anything to pump it up, that sucks.

I love the detailed tutorial. It's clear, ordered, and looks cool. This game just feels so good. I'm proud authority of soviet goverment, but I know everything is gonna fall appart sooner or later, the music helps achieving this feeling.

Good job!

Tower Builders by cheetah 2018-12-29T13:45:11Z

This is a very good idea for a mobile game. As already mentioned, wind blows were unpredictable, and felt really unfair. Also, when tower is about to fall, you can just spam blocks and earn free points. Points should be added after block lands on a tower and it's still stable or at least when the block makes contact with the tower - not when it reaches some treshhold.

On the other hand, balance is quite good, 10 points for infinite time, 40-50 for really quick drop - there's good rewarded for undertaken risk, and waiting forever doesn't really make game easier. Block stability is also in a very good state - it doesn't fall apart too easily, neither is too stable.

Be The Bridge by Codesity 2018-12-28T19:55:29Z

Oh boy, that's a great idea. The theme is very strong in this game. I'm really sacrificing myself. I can be either greedy and save a lot of elements and put a lot of effort - or use a lot of them for easy run early, but I'm going to have problems later on. I was also very positively surprised that the movement of the ball didn't feel clunky, I wasn't getting stuck anywhere, it didn't feel bugged anywhere. And I honestly doesn't care for graphics or anything else, as the idea is brilliant. Well done!
