I keep getting stuck on the cutscene between level 1 and 2. I hear "Good job", see the lab wall with a window, but the level never loads? Any ideas? I really like the gameplay so far :)

yuigoto 2017-08-01 03:24

Thanks, Nick! I'm gonna see and fix that ASAP! :P I kinda rushed things a bit in the end and a LOT of errors might have slipped on me! :( Thanks for playing!

didactylos 2017-08-01 04:10

Very extended intro there! Classic top-down shooter - I like the graphics, they are very appropriate.

bombjack 2017-08-01 19:06

fun game. I liked it

gwinnell 2017-08-01 20:26

I played for so long that the music stopped playing - about level 6! Really enjoyed the movement, camera system, explosions and mechanics. Never really felt the need to use the dash however. Does the game go on forever?

One annoying thing is if you stand next to a down-facing wall, or (by the perspective) looking around a corner, and try to shoot, the plasma gets discarded straight away. Also my title screen did not look like the screenshot on here - gotta make sure you bundle the web fonts or something. Also had to play at 2x zoom because it was so small with no fullscreen option.

Nice jam entry.

yuigoto 2017-08-02 17:07

@didactylos thanks for playing! Yes, it's quite a long intro, and it would also have voice acting. Sorry if it's too long, that was the only thing I could think for it! I'll improve it on a post-jam version. :P

@bombjack thanks for playing and having fun with the game! :D

@gwinnell sorry about the bugs, I attempted to fix the sound looping and fullscreen, but couldn't fix the font-size on HTML export, since it should scale. The fonts are included as sprites and should scale on render, but GM just won't for me :(.

The plasma being discarded well, because of time, I did some pretty poor collision (one of the last things I properly did, like music too). And the game goes up to level 100. :P

Thanks for playing and giving feedback! Really! :D

bartol44 2017-08-02 19:32

I'll first start from what I didn't like, then I'll move on to pleasant things :D Sometimes, I guess when standing near wall, my gun just wouldn't shoot, or the bullets were disappearing, but I guess it's just neglible collider issue. The view was for me a bit confusing, as I could see my whole character, but walls just from top. Some balancing is needed. Bots take 3hp, which basically allows me to win level just by headbutting into the bots :D And as gwinell said before, I also didn't feel need to use dash - bots should outspeed you if we are ever to use it. And don't get discouraged, all those issues can be easily fixed.

Camera movement, and camera shake is great though. It fits theme, and it's climatic on it's own way. Explosion effects are also very cool.

Edit: it's always nice to hear someone using own music, especially of this genre ;)

solah 2017-08-02 20:05

For some reasons, I couldn't aim at enemies with the mouse but could manage to finish a few levels. The game is really good, I love the music and graphics. I just think that the visibility could be better, I was often touched by the enemies before even seeing them.

It's a nice game, well done!

ruerob-hyky 2017-08-02 22:01

Haha! And again a great game from you! Haha!

It really has the feel of a nuclear throne weapon testing area! haha! The level generator is awesome and the feel of the controls, the screen shaking, the great music even though I've played to the last level it did not annoy me, the graphics were nice too! I really like your game! :0)

Good job! haha! First I've thought the text on the screen could get disturbing but after I started moving I didn't saw it anymore! haha! I think it was a good idea to place it where it was. :0)

But one thought while I played was, why do I have a health bar. :0) Even if I ran into all the enemies in most levels I couldn't get killed, because the enemies did not make enough harm. But that was no big problem. :0) Because, the mechanics worked nontheless. It wasn't possible to just ran into all enemies without shooting because I needed the plasma! haha! Or else I wouldn't have the time to search for the last missing robot! haha!

Thank you for this game! It's really awesome and fun!

piscythe 2017-08-02 22:07

I like some of the ideas here, but I found that this game grew dull quickly. I was expecting to need to be careful around enemies while lining up shots with a powerful plasma weapon, but I found the weapon to be a little underwhelming, while the fact that the enemies did so little damage meant I could simply walk or dash straight through them. My enemy was not the enemies themselves, but the ticking down of my power count. I won several levels by accidentally walking into an enemy. The difficulty curve is not nearly steep enough - I went through 20 levels and didn't really feel that it was getting more challenging. Also, I found that the mouse controls are bugged in the fullscreen web version. The art style is mostly good and I liked the intro.

chadivision 2017-08-03 03:23

I really enjoyed this one. It's got a pretty cool frantic kind of feel when you're getting swamped with a bunch of enemies at the same time. It looks really polished for a jam game. If I had to mention one super-picky thing...I'd suggest toning down the wobbling text on the title screen. It makes it hard to read and just kind of makes me dizzy. :) But a really solid game, overall.

peter-sheehan 2017-08-03 03:51

First off, super juicy, loved the screen shake and the explosion effects. It honestly reminded me a lot of Nuclear Throne, which is one of my favorite games. Art assets and animation were all great too. Gameplay wise, I found it to be hard at first, because I'd instinctively shoot everything- and I would die because my plasma tank ran out. Then I noticed the plasma tank was already depreciating constantly, so wasting ammo would do me no good. But, then I realized that enemies deal less damage then I expend my plasma tank on killing them- which means letting them hit me and kill themselves gave me more time to find them. Plus, this was even more viable because my health was reset to 100 every level. So I would just go through levels, searching for crowds robots to explode all over me. I think you should playtest it more, fiddle around with metrics for depreciation and stuff, and it will be a super fun rogue-like. Your foundation is awesome.

rodobodolfo 2017-08-03 03:55

Good job! (with robotic voice) I like it! As the guy above I got the same feeling when swamped with bunch of enemies at the same time. However I feel the game gets too repetitive quickly and I didnt notice any increase in difficulty. Loved the level design and art in general, and Bonus points for super cool song!!!

yuigoto 2017-08-03 04:12

@bartol44 Thanks! It's always good to read opinions and I appreciate it a LOT! I did make things a bit too rushed and collisions and projectiles ended up like this. The idea to having bots taking little damage was so you could just rush into them and "save" ammo, but in the end it became quite a mess on the genre. The dash mechanic was designes so you could headbutt a lot of enemies at once, but became not-so-useful in the end. But, really, thanks for the feedback and encouragement! :P

@solah Thanks for playing and pointing the problem and sorry for that! I just realized that in some PCs aiming just became hard and had bugs! I'm gonna check and test to fix that ASAP! And yeah, visibility is quite bad, specially if you aim too distant from the character sometimes! I'm gonna remake it into a better game after judging ends! :)

@ruerob-hyky Dude! Thanks again, one more time! The idea is to have the feeling of a training area, but I do have a lot to improve, like the healthbar/damage issue! I kinda needed to balance better the dash/headbutting enemies/shooting/plasma tank thing, so gameplay could be challenging and also about managing resources and actions properly. Thanks for all the tips and sincere feedback! :D

@piscythe Thanks! And I totally get what you're saying! After a few minutes it does get dull and repetitive and has a lot of room for improvement, the enemies and collision were really done in the most fast possible way, since it was rushed because of lots of factors. I do appreciate the feedback and I'm hoping to improve it later! I wanted to add a bit of humor in the intro, but it ended up a bit dull too. Thanks again!

@chadivision Thanks! What you pointed out was part of my intention! And the text, yeah, I wanted to make it a bit fancier, but this solution was all I could think about at the time! :P But I did wanted to make it a bit frantic, but not so chaotic and not-so-polished as I made. I will make sure to improve it on the post-jam version! But thanks for checking it out! For Real! :D

@peter-sheehan Thanks for checking the game and the post! Really! I do LOVE games like Nuclear Throne and Dungeon Souls, so I was inspired by them for the gameplay style, and I totally get what you felt when playing the game and the way you didn't see the replay factor. I do find it fun, and I do have a replay factor, but I also made the game, so it's different! :P I'll try my best to improve it in a later moment and balance the HP/Plasma/Rushing into crowds of robots thing! :D

@rodobodolfo Thank you for playing the game and for the feedback! And I totally understand the repetition thing! I did wanted randomly generated levels to get rid of it, but this "maze + 30 robots or so" ended up becoming too repetitive! I'll try to improve on it a later! Thanks for checking!

Really, thanks everyone for the sincere feedback! I know people sometimes don't like criticism, but I love it! Since it also leads to improvement in all possible aspects! So thanks for playing and checking the game!

Cheers and Good Luck for Everyone!

xsior 2017-08-03 10:07

Game was ok shooter but aiming felt a bit clumsy on gamepad (but that mey just be me). You could have made it so that enemies only expload when you dash - that would make it a little bit haqrder to just headbutt through the whole level. But I like that you made something like last resort tatctic when your plasmagun runs out for steam. Game is fun and reminds me of nuclear throne for some reason and tthe audio was fitting as a glove even if little repetitive.

yuigoto 2017-08-09 04:14

Thanks, @xsior, yeah the game's kinda clumsy, since I kinda did a lot of things a bit rushed (specially aiming with the gamepad). More actions and other things were planned for enemies, but I kinda ran out of time and went the lazy way. :P

The game's kinda influenced by Nuclear Throne, but I wanted to make things a bit different on the style of levels. Audio was the last thing, so I quickly recorded some sounds and made that track. :D

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! All feedback is pretty much appreciated! ;)

steing 2017-08-09 07:04

A great entry ! You rocked this ! This is so dynamic and addictive i played like too much time without seeing time pass ! The game kind of reminded me about Nuclear Thrones in the gameplay, which i LOVE ! Music and audio dialogues are very cool too, well done guys !

linver 2017-08-09 08:27

It's fun and dynamic when you understand that you must fastrun all levels. Shooting feels cool. Mood, music, and voiceover are awesome. But when I understand that the best strategy is pushing dashes only to HIT THEM WITH MY BRICKY FACE  it lost some charm. I lost every time at Level 3 because I can't find enemies. Probably the marker to the closest enemy can solve it.

teddydd 2017-08-09 08:33

That was fun! Pretty good game. Personally I'd prefer some progress bar instead of textual information about plasma but besides this it's awesome :)

daniel-kartafla 2017-08-09 09:13

This game already felt very polished, wow! I really enjoyed the death-animation of enemies, felt very satisfying. The music and graphics were also nice and fitting. Controls felt also precise. However, I'd prefer more variety, maybe more enemies, another weapon? But overall a great entry!

jotson 2017-08-09 19:00

Liked the sound effects and dialog sounds... Controls were a bit weird... not sure the gamepad controls were even working correctly on the HTML version. Got through the first level just by running into everything! :-)

dege 2017-08-09 19:08

Great work here, the controller support unfortunately don't work so good, when you leave the analog stick the aim will go back to the mouse cursor. Also the colliders for the plasma cans probably must be bigger. A bit of feedback to the user when he shoots int wall would be awesome. Another thing that was strange to me was that the enemies dealt so little damages that was easier to walk in the level to end it. The game is really fun to play, maybe the incredible amount of levels is not so good when playtesting for a jam, but it's an impressive feat . The level of polish is really good, with all kind of nice effects, really awesome work here! The theme of the jam is also followed in a really good way, nice work and keep going!

blk-dragon 2017-08-12 07:57

Fun shooter, pretty polished already. Camera movement and screen-shakes on explosion should be more subtle IMO.

david-allen 2017-08-13 02:50

Awesome work. I love the level of polish and juice (screen shakes, strobing tiles, dramatic zooms on the window). Definitely a good foundation for something you could add some sort of progression to and release in full. I don't know what the game dev equivalent of having a 'good eye' is, but you got it

yuigoto 2017-08-14 01:05

@steing Thanks for playing! :D I can say it was kinda influenced by Nuclear Throne, but I wanted to add my twist in it. Ended up watching too many tutorials and the result wasn't 100% as I wanted, there are lots of holes that should be fixed, but I'm really happy to see your feedback! :)

@linver Thanks! That's how I wanted the game to feel a bit rushed, but in the end I ended up rushing to finish it, so a lot of things (like the marker you mentioned) didn't make it, I plan on fixing all these soon, in a post-jam version! :) Thanks for playing and pointing it out! :D

@teddydd Thanks! I'll take note of that! The original bar was actually a circular bar, but it was kinda heavy (since the walls are all objects, I felt it was heavy enough), so I ended up using text. Will make it into a proper meter in a post-jam version! :D

@daniel-kartafla Thanks! The death animation was one of the quickest ones I built (and only thanks to how GMS2 handles sprite editing). The game truly feels a bit boring with only a single weapon and only these enemies (and they all look like some brand of vacuum cleaners :P), and I plan on fixing that in a post version! :D Thanks for pointing things out and playing the game!

@dege Yeah, the crosshair is kinda one of the things I didn't work too much on (so BOTH keyboard and gamepad are working at the same time) and the colliders for the canisters I wanted to add a bit of 2.5 depth here, but ended up with small hitboxes :/. I wanted to add some particles for feedback, among other things, but was so on time that I kinda rushed to publish it. :P Thanks for playing and pointing things out! I'm planning on adding more challenges and make it a bit less repetitive too, refining controls, effects and other things. But really, thanks! :D

@blk-dragon Thanks for playing! The camera movement and screenshakes I kinda took from a tutorial during development (as the level generator), since I kinda didn't practice too much in the last few months because of work. But I'm really happy to check your feedback here! ;) Thanks!

@david-allen Thanks! I kinda wanted to add more juice, but ran out of time :/, but I'd like to increase challenges, reduce the repetition and add more features that make it more a pleasing experience to play. Thanks for checking and playing! I really did enjoy playing Inverteb too! It was some amazing teamwork! :D

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-18 09:32

Really nice game, but needs some polishing, especially aiming mechanics. Graphics looks nice. Good Job!

tim-eriksen 2017-08-18 10:18

Nice game! I loved the tiny bit of voice over for the talking, it really helps to set the mood and front the humor in it all. The graphics were nice. The only thing I have to complain about when it comes to graphics were the explosion animation, that could have been better. All in all a pretty cool game, I liked it! Well done! :)

coauctor 2017-08-18 10:43

The game is stylish for sure! I enjoyed this "Soooo..." phrase at the start. Overall, I played more because of the audiovisuals than mechanics. Prefer more tense gameplay, but that would be too hardcore.

Stopped at level 3 after the first death. Thanks for the game!

sumgamstudio 2017-08-18 19:32

Great work! Very interesting concept.

drury 2017-08-18 20:55

Nice game, however it runs oddly slow in the browser. I have a pretty good PC and it's not being throttled in any way, so I don't know where the problem is.

Gameplay wise, the core of the game is good, but there isn't much supporting it. The difficulty doesn't ramp as you progress and the enemies die in one hit, so the fact that your gun has a fast fire rate doesn't really play much of a role, neither does the dodge mechanic.

A pretty good game otherwise.

natrium729 2017-08-18 21:27

The game is really polished! I especially liked the sounds and the voice.

I also like the fact that the gun's range is limited so that you have to wait for the last moment not to waste plasma.

My only issue is that I had to switch to QWERTY for the game to be playable. Consider adding the arrow keys for controls (also, I'm left-handed, so I prefer that).

Also, are there really 100 levels?! I gave up after the second one. :stuck_out_tongue:

ectucker1 2017-08-18 23:28

The game looks really nice. I especially liked the explosion effects.

The constantly spinning UI was kind of annoying, I could never quite read it properly. Also, I was sent all the way back to level 1 when I died, so I never progressed far into the game.

The music and occasional voices were also a good touch.

galaxstudios 2017-08-19 07:48

Good job! I really like it :)

carsen-d 2017-08-19 07:53

I thought this was a really fun game, I enjoyed playing it a lot! The graphics were pretty good, the music was fitting, and the game was quite fun! The wobbling text reminded my a lot of Hotline Miami. I would have preferred bars to show your plasma and health, as that would be much easier to read at a glance instead of having to read out the numbers all the time. That is what ultimately made me not continue after I died as it got a little bit irksome.

That was my only real problem though, and if there truly are 100 levels, thats insane! I barely got past the first one. Nice job though!

ddsfloko 2017-08-19 17:22

Good job! I liked the feedback in explosion and shot effects, the sound work very nice. Nice entry. :D

garethjenkins 2017-08-20 10:42

Good fun running around. Colliders on plasma pickups were a little too small.

drachmor 2017-08-20 18:51

Made it to level 6! This is a very polished entry to say the least. I liked the voice overs, the music was pretty catchy, and the graphics were really nice! The movement and shooting felt nice, but I would have to echo the comment above regarding the plasma pickup colliders. I also noticed a couple issues with the mouse upon entering fullscreen in the browser, where my mouse was not in the same location as the aiming cursor. Despite these little things, overall I really enjoyed playing this game - good job!

brazmogu 2017-08-21 10:41

Hey, this is great! This looks very great(excellent pixel graphics there) and the game's core is solid, and there are lots of little details and craft through the game(like how the plasma keeps depleting because it's leaking, and it shows in the graphics :D).

Just as a bit of polish, the shooting doesn't have a good "feel" to it(I almost didn't notice I was shooting for a while), but this is excellent. And kudos for making it on HTML5, makes it a lot easier to play and rate! :)

jaimuepe 2017-08-21 18:03

Loved the intro :D it was a nice way of introducing the game. In my opinion the game was too easy, it was hard to run out of plasma so it made the game a bit boring after a while (i got to lvl 7). But overall i think it was pretty nice. The music fitted the game very well too. Good job!

yuigoto 2017-08-21 22:50

@theflyingkeyboard Thanks for checking my game and for pointing out, I do need to balance things a bit here. I rebuilt the game for another jam (LOWREZJAM) after LD ended, and improved a bit, but things still need more improvement and testing

@tim-eriksen Thanks! I did wanted to include more talking and more humor here, which I ended up doing on the remake I built for LOWREZJAM last week. The explosion was quite rushed, so I do plan on making it better in a future version of this! :D

@coauctor Thanks! I planned for more cutscenes and funny stuff here, but it ended up like small bits of sound only. I plan on making a better version based on this concept and improving the remake I built of this game for another jam on last week. :)

@sumgamstudio Thanks for playing and commenting here! ;)

@drury Yes, on some PCs it runs quite slow. It kinda went a bit untested in this part, here it runs just fine though (i7 2400k, 8gb, R7 250). I do need to improve a lot, specially on the replayability factor, collisions and challenge. Thanks for checking out! :)

@natrium729 Thanks! I did wanted to focus more on some sounds, voice acting and cutscenes, but things were kinda rushed here. The idea was to limit the gun range, but also to make the player spray the gun as soon as he found a swarm of robots. I'll really include better controls and make things more accessible in future versions! And YES, there are 100 levels (though the game was kinda made with the intention of never getting there :P).

@ectucker1 Thanks, I do need to improve on some effects and that spinning text there. You will always go back to level 1 because it's a permadeath, kinda roguelike, so it's one of the core mechanics. ;) Thanks for playing the game! :)

@galaxstudios Thanks! Really nice that you like the game! It makes me really happy!

@carsen-d Thanks, the wobbling text was my way of trying to make the UI a bit juicy, but it renders unreadable sometimes, I did consider bars, but these were last-minute additions and I was kinda in a rush. :P There are 100 levels, but I plan on balancing that out, so it doesn't sound so insane and cumbersome. Thanks for checking!

@ddsfloko Thanks! Knowing your opinion does make me happy!

@garethjenkins Thank you! I do need to improve on colliders, particles and more player feedback, since it's kinda missing on these points. But thanks for checking and pointing that out! :)

@drachmor Thanks! I did wanted to focus a bit more on humor, but in the end I didn't have the time to do that. Colliders were a big problem, after all, and I do plan on making them better in future versions. The mouse problem with browsers is something I'll have to figure out in GameMaker, I'm kinda lost on how to do it here. But really, thanks for playing my game!

@brazmogu Thanks! I was in a rush and couldn't make the art better, but good to see your feedback here! I do need to polish on a LOT of things here, and I plan on doing that, but thanks for checking my project here!

@jaimuepe I did wanted to make the intro better, and with more humor, but couldn't because of the limited time. I do need to balance the challenge better here, and I need to test things more before releasing, but good to see your opinion on everything! Music was a last minute addition! :P Thanks for playing this! Really!

Also, thanks to everyone who played and rated (or not)! ;)

automatonvx 2017-08-21 23:09

Pretty fun, nice to be able to play something with a controller, feel like i'm the only one on LD that prefers that as an input option on action games, appreciated the effort on the polish, I didn't manage to get beyond level 2 was always running out of plasma. found the music sounded bit odd but not exactly bad, the actual music is good, but it sounds somehow like a metal band recorded on a phone mic. Didn't see any weapon upgrades but that would have been/would be a nice addition, whats a shooting game without a bunch of different guns to play with? I'd cut down the intro a bit also. Narrative and background story is a fun thing to add mood, but maybe don't put it all in the intro. Also I would drop the text rotation, it end up with a sort of strange aliasing look, maybe due to low res, and anyway its a bit distracting. Just a bunch of minor points though, overall i liked it, good job.

edwingamedev 2017-08-22 04:08

Hey, very fun game. I liked the way it is procedural, good job. Also the leaking animation, very good feedback. The game is pretty solid. I mastared it at third run, so i never loss anymore. I think the robots maybe could have more HP or a progression on the game, like adding more HP according to current level, also the bots explode on contact this is good, sometimes it helped me complete the level more fast, but i see that they don't drop energy we that happen, so this is a good behaviour. Good game, good job! é nós hahauah!

frogcheese 2017-08-22 12:15

Great graphics, I really liked the choice to have the lights on the walls, kept the environments from looking too boring. Good job making it procedural too, didn't expect it but it worked very well. As far as top-down shooters go this one was a bit simple and could have benefitted from more enemy types and weapons, which I think is a good way to develop things further if you want to keep working on this game. Good job on the audio as well, the music was short and simple but never felt grating or bothered me.

All in all, great work!
