I do not have the co-ordination to play games like this, so me being bad at it is entirely my fault. The graphics are really lacking, but the gameplay is smooth and I can see what you were going for with the theme. Not bad for something made in a couple of hours, hopefully you'll get more time for the next jam. Don't give up on development, you'll get there!

firesplash-entertainment 2018-08-15 19:28

Hi just played your game live on stream. Thanks for submitting. Give it some more polish and it would be a neat ide. loved the special mode so far!

sibi 2018-08-16 19:01

Innovative little entry. Could use some polish and especially sound. Hope it was a great learning experience :)

mza 2018-08-16 22:20

Simple and works. I fealt the spawning of the rocks was very random though. Either way, it was fun.

ventura 2018-08-17 08:08

It remembered to Asteroids  . Nice idea. Thanks

aayush 2018-08-17 08:22

Nice mechanics you have going on there! I almost had a mental breakdown on the special mode lol. As others have already said, needs some polishing and sfx. Otherwise, I liked it, it's on the more innovative side.

nam-nguyen 2018-08-17 09:44

A fun game to play with friends, except that I don't have any. Playing alone feels very difficult, and you don't really know where the bullets are from so there is no way players could learn to be better at the game at the moment. I suggest having some guns, or at least some indicators on the sides of the arena moving and shooting from that point so players know in advance where the bullets will pass by. The shooting direction ASWD being totally separated from the movement with arrow keys is bit strange, I think there might be a reason behind it that I dont really get. Also I wonder how would you map this to 2 players mode? one with ASWD and one with arrow keys, so how do they shoot?

Again, not saying its not a fun game, Im just trying to give a helpful feedback rather than *hey I like the game its really fun*

shakedimus 2018-08-17 11:31

hey @nam-nguyen the game is meant to be single player. The bullets in normal mode are the ones you shot and they just loop around so if it passes the right border it will come out left. If you mean in the special mode I understand what you mean there were suppose to be some indicators but I didn't have the time to put them in. Thanks for the feedback!

udo 2018-08-17 12:26

Heh, a twin stick shooter, I'm *really* bad at these  It was surprisingly fun to play, simple and well executed. I kept shooting myself from behind  I can definitely see how this would be fun with two people collaborating.

I didn't know Lib Gdx existed. How was the experience of making a game with it?

"Special" mode all the way!

nam-nguyen 2018-08-17 12:26

@shakedimus okay so I got your point wrong, I saw the picture that your girl friend and her friend are playing so I thought it supports local multiplayer. Regarding the bullets, I did not know it was my own bullet and thought it was bullet from some other dark entities on the edge of the arena shooting at me haha. I completely misunderstood the concept. Maybe a short level without the obstacles on the screen so player can be introduced with that mechanic. Now that I get it, it seems very fun. I will replay and rate it again xD

Yes it definitely makes sense now, I got 189 points now. Not high but decent I guess xD

shakedimus 2018-08-17 14:46

Haha @nam-nguyen yeah maybe a tutorial level would have been nice! This misunderstanding is actually very good feedback :) Thanks again for going through the effort of coming back and trying it again.

shakedimus 2018-08-17 14:51

Hey @udo it was a very good experienxe making this game with it. It's pretty easy getting stuff on screen and what's also nice is that you develop in a way so you can deploy to desktop, html, ios,.. directly. I think I'm going to make some more games with it. It did however take me a long time to figure out how to deploy to html. Glad you liked the special mode :D ntw I used the tutorial of Hollowbit on youtube

demn 2018-08-18 11:09

Hey ! this is a good idea for a twin stick game, the player creates the lack of space by actually fighting the enemy. That's an interesting take on the theme, as the player becomes the one creating its own "condition". I think your game could be greatly enhanced, but you definitly ran out of time. Good job anyway for creating this :) !

norris-eldridge 2018-08-18 13:59

Hey, nice little game you have here! I think some music and sounds would have really helped pull the mood together. The controls were a smidge awkward at first just because its a little odd to think about wasd as anything other than moving lol perhaps a mouse click to fire in a direction could have worked a little better? Either way I liked this game. Solid entry :)

haberworks 2018-08-18 20:33

cool concept! it definitely reminded me of asteroids and i had fun trying to keep myself alive more than a few seconds - nice challenge

brallex 2018-08-18 20:59

Haha I really really really liked it!! It was challenging, but in a fair way. It took some time to get used to the controls, but soon enough I got them! Great game, well done!:)

antoined73 2018-08-18 21:09

Nice idea ! But please, don't spawn the ennemies on the player, this is really unfair x) Some polish, a sountrack and SFX, some combos and you're good ;)

jlv 2018-08-18 21:32

Great entry ! I love the concept, and I found the gameplay loop to be quite addictive.

Pros : - Intuitive controls scheme and clever "no-walls" mechanic - Easy to do some crowd-control with the ennemies - Minimal graphics make for readable action - The special mode is genius - To me, the difficulty curve is balanced ; I managed to reach 143, and I'm not even good.

Cons : - Audio feedback/music would be very welcome - Some enemy spawns are unfair - A short in-game tutorial would help a lot

All in all, nice work ! I would love to see a post-jam version of this one.

papaver 2018-08-18 21:50

Nice little game. At first sight I was a bit sceptic, but the move and shoot mechanics are quite fun to play with, and then it got quite addicting to beat my own high score. I liked how the game punishes random shooting bullets around, since they come back around! I played for a few minutes and somehow got 316. :) Of course the game could use some polishing and sounds, but it's quite nice for the short time you had! I would be nice to be able to restart with the keyboard (so I don't have to move my cursor out of the way everytime) and to display the score while playing.

chris-coe 2018-08-18 22:05

Amusing little game. Simple "twin stick shooter" type game with a twist. Was not expecting my own bullets to hit me, and the moment I realized that was an "oh shoot!" moment, but in a good way. Gotta check your fire and make sure you keep track of loose bullets! ahahaha!

Special mode is insane and weird and imma back away from it now. :D

shakedimus 2018-08-19 12:07

@antoined73 @jlv Normally the enemies don't spawn on the player but maybe the radius in which they can't spawn is too small also they can pass trough walls and sometimes it's like they come out of nowhere. If I would remake it I would probably only let your bullets pass through the walls, I think this would be more fair. Thanks for the great feedback, glad you had fun!

shakedimus 2018-08-19 12:09

@papaver Thanks for the feedback. 316 is actually quite good! The highest score I've heard is around 400. And haha I know the mouse thing is pretty annoying but it was last on my list of things to fix so I didn't get there.

maakep 2018-08-19 12:55

Congratulations at completing your first game jam. A decent game idea, with some polish it could probably be quite a fun game. Really let's you practice your bullet hell skills!

smuhlaci 2018-08-19 13:07

Need fullscreen for WebGL =) Nice submission.

tozzo4316 2018-08-19 14:10

overall a good game!

paulie-b 2018-08-19 20:05

Probably the longest time I've spent playing a game so far. Despite the simple graphics and lack of audio I liked the game mechanics and the smooth movement. The enemies movement was also well programmed. Finally, the addition of a second mode was pretty cool. I suggest that you play around with having the player move through walls too like the enemies and bullets, it could open up some cool possibilites

antonionp 2018-08-20 09:47

score.png Simple but fun and balanced, nice idea! 195 in special Mode, it's too crazy hahaha

shakedimus 2018-08-20 09:59

@antonionp Wow those are both great scores ! You must have crazy twitch skills, I'm pretty sure those are the highscores! Glad you had fun!

zinski 2018-08-20 17:34

An interesting and innovative concept on the mechanical level! With a little more work on the graphics and feedbacks I think this little shooter game would be even better! Great job!

kalcoslinder 2018-08-20 23:44

It seems to be fun but I couldn't really get the hang of it, and I gave up after dying a few times.

jazmin-giolito 2018-08-21 21:07

This is a great concept! I had a lot of fun playing it and I really hope that you can keep working on it. Awesome entry! And congrats on your first game jam ever!

tlcoc 2018-08-22 04:28

Really interesting concept. Would rather shoot while facing a certain direction instead of WASD. I feel its more intuitive. I really liked the idea. Good job

mapedorr 2018-08-22 05:11

Great concept. To be your first game jam, you did a great job. I like what you did with the theme. It could be a pretty good game with a couple of aesthetic improvements (make it more [juice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=216_5nu4aVQ)).

You already played our game: The legend of the looter and the incredible backpack that never runs out of space, so we can't do anything but thank you. 」( ̄▽ ̄」)

shakedimus 2018-08-22 06:29

@mapedorr Thanks for the feedback and the video, will definetly try to incorporate some of that sweet sweet juice in the post-jam version. :D

saoi-games 2018-08-22 07:18

Thank you for sharing your game with me. I played it on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames

I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.

You can hear my comments in the archive at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/300361630

anubhav-kashyap 2018-08-22 10:44

Had fun playing this game! I got a score of 214, which is OK, I guess? The enemy sometimes spawned on top of the enemy, but otherwise the gameplay is good.

void-productions 2018-08-22 15:46

@shakedimus Nice and simple gameplay yet so fun to play.

roman-petrov 2018-08-22 19:10

That was challenging! When I realized that I should avoid my own bullets, the game became much more interesting :) I think it's a nice match to the theme.

syrapt0r 2018-08-22 20:53

Pros: - Nice easy and intuitive - Good controls - Good theme interpretation

Cons: - The frame rate was kinda low

shakedimus 2018-08-22 22:01

Hi @syrapt0r thanks for playing the game and leaving feedback! :) I didn't really experience this low framerate could you maybe explain it a bit more or make a screengrab of it?

randomphantom 2018-08-23 17:09

The gameplay does feel a little barebones what with the short time spent on it, but when the bullets started warping across the screen it was mindblowing, very inventive interpretation of the theme there! A few more hours and it would feel like a more complete game, although its very much playable at this stage. Congrats on making an entry within such a short time frame!

brandon-napky 2018-08-23 17:15

Kudos for getting a game up with LibGdx! I tried it myself several years ago. I think the hitboxes were a bit to punishing, try having the hitbox be a little bit smaller than the actual sprite and see how it feels. Good job man!

agar3s 2018-08-24 01:26

I like the way you implement this mechanic, pretty simple but challenging, I miss the score displayed all the time against my high score, also some sounds should be appreciated. Good job!

thibaultar 2018-08-24 11:39

make me think about the old game "Asteroids". Maybe you could improve controls easily by moving with WASD and shoot with mouse click in the mouse direction (IMO it would be more controllable :) )

In any case, it's a great entry, graphics are simples but do the trick :)

hexkritor 2018-08-24 15:13

Very simple game. The idea with bullets teleported to other side of screen is fine. But that's all gameplay. Also I didn't understand the game scoring. It increases over time or by killing enemies or both?

shakedimus 2018-08-24 15:33

@hexkritor Thanks for your feedback. The score increases with both.

schizoid2k 2018-08-24 19:54

Nice concept, and I think this is a good start to a game that can be improved a bit. I like that the bullets stay on the screen ad roll over... makes you really think and plan your shots.

A little audio, perhaps an on-screen score display, and some animation when the enemy blobs warp in would help.

prajwal 2018-08-25 08:31

so,i was going out of screen in upwards direction, but concept was good u must do post jam update!

nullcode 2018-08-25 20:24

Good concept, would've liked some audio and maybe more polish. Good job on your first LD Game!

ghastlymicrowave 2018-08-26 03:13

No clue how but projectiles kept spawning on me, i'd get a max score of like 20 every run. Aside from that major bug, cool game.

shakedimus 2018-08-26 18:32

@ghastlymicrowave This shouldn't happen, do you mean the green projectiles or the brown enemies? Your bullets actually wrap around the screen so maybe you shot yourself from the back. If you are close to the edge you wouldn't really see it coming and it can seem as if it's a spawn kill. Enemies can also wrap around so again if you play close to the edge and one wraps around it can seem a spawn kill. You think it maybe was one of those things?

p1nkmaria 2018-08-27 20:13

Great job! I really like the concept and it's actually pretty funny and challenging. Well done :)

nnnikki 2018-08-30 15:44

Fun little game! I liked it, it was quite hard. Special Mode was also a nice feature. Obviously because of lacking time I can see that the game looks more like a prototype. Too bad @mapedorr already recommended Mark Brown's video on game juice, but if you're a newcomer, I really recommend watching all of his vids. They really teached me a lot. Good work!

PS This image is totally not edited and I really got this score:

1a4d1.png

danielblanco3d 2018-08-30 17:41

Nice game idea, special mode is too weird for me but i like it!Well done!

icarus-nb 2018-08-30 21:00

Played this with a friend and it was really fun and challenging. Nice job!

shakedimus 2018-08-31 07:24

@nnnikki Some nice (Photoshop) skills there haha !!! :D It kind of makes me feel good that you went through the effort of doing it ;) I will definitely take your advice and watch his vids. Thanks!!

jordantanner 2018-09-01 20:50

Definitely a really fun game! I like how you can kill yourself with your own bullets. A really solid entry for being so simple and for not having much time. I'm learning a lot this Ludum Dare about how simplicity can actually be a huge advantage as long as the core design of a game is fun. Nice work @shakedimus!

andrei9 2018-09-03 16:52

Nice game! interesting graphics

ratherjolly 2018-09-03 22:31

Awesome! This was really fun :D The design is solid and I freaking love that you added a special mode haha This plays really nice and is fun to go back to. Great Job!

martintristan 2018-09-04 05:06

pretty cool game! i really liked the idea of the bullets looping back. i thought i just have to spam the bullets but i found out that i can die from my own bullets! pretty challenging and really needs a great hand-eye coordination. the special mode was really crazy! if you add some game art and audio, this can be a big game! great job!

ursagames 2018-09-04 13:42

Very interesting take of screen wrapping! I enjoyed this a lot. Thanks for sharing your game with my stream awhile back. Your game was played around 4:54 into this vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299925225

hellsquirrel 2018-09-04 13:57

Nice work!
