LD42 — Running out of space

Placeholder by PoV 2018-08-31T18:03:59Z

@pov Thanks Mike for all your work. This has been my first Ludum Dare and it's been a really fun experience!

Ghost Cleaner by akai_0okami 2018-09-02T00:38:24Z

@akai-0okami Great and cute little game! Very light hearted music really matches the friendly ghost vibe, and the use of the theme was very well done. Excellent work! P.S. Who leaves pizza in the bathroom?? Haha! :)

HUBOTS by khofez 2018-09-01T08:22:52Z

My inner Starcraft geek-self is very happy with this one! I very much like the art style and the concept. I really like the way you can assign "waypoints" to each robot by using shift+right click, though I admit I didn't learn how to do it very well in this game. Regardless, a fun concept to be able to plan ahead for your units in RTS games like this. A nice LD42 entry, very solid!!

There’s No Place Like Home by Dubgron 2018-09-02T19:40:59Z

Pretty cool little game man! As others have said, it's definitely really hard. Asteroids are a bit tricky to see, and it speeds up really quickly. Also, not sure if this is intended or not, but after dying when it's on fullscreen mode, it resets to windowed mode, which I found a bit troubling. I really liked the constellations in the background when you press Tab. That was a nice polish touch, though I think the gameplay could use a little work in the areas mentioned. Overall a nice entry, thanks!

UNTIL I RUN OUT OF SPACE by xk_the_name 2018-08-29T09:53:46Z

This game is beautiful. The ambient and honest acoustic guitar performance helps support the thoughtful narrative as you go through life trying to make your dreams come true.

Upwards by Nitin Kumar 2018-08-31T19:34:32Z

A really fun game. Coming from a dev to always likes to overcomplicate things (me), I can really appreciate a deceptively simple game. Just further proves that simpler is sometimes better. Great work!

Wherehouse by SalamiChild 2018-09-01T07:44:14Z

Really interesting idea! Took me quite a few tried to figure out what was going on; maybe I'm slower or less inventive than most. Not sure. I like the concept a lot, though. I realize that part of the puzzle and the challenge is remembering where you've put everything, as well as guessing how high to throw things, but perhaps a few more visual cues to help people see what's going on would help. But overall a really interesting and unique concept and can certainly appreciate that! Great entry, @salamichild!

PushtA by larzan 2018-09-02T00:07:48Z

Hey @larzan nice work on this little puzzler! Concept was pretty cool, like ChicomCastro said it may make a good mobile game! Nice job!

Bath Time by DDRKirbyISQ 2018-08-30T08:39:58Z

A fun and cute use of Unity Rigidbodies in a game geared toward the mobile platform. It still kinda works on a desktop, though! Nice.

Dark plague by geck0 2018-09-01T22:12:36Z

@geck0 Really solid entry man! The graphics are a lot of fun and so is the gameplay. I got pretty good at it, but eventually I found myself freaking out and spamming both mouse buttons! Probably not the best strategy. Nice work!

Pusher by notime4games 2018-09-01T22:44:58Z

Interesting game! Are the levels randomly generated? As some others have said, some actual design may be helpful, but I'm sure it was a time-related thing. Overall though, a fun little entry. Nice work!

Get Off My Space by Jungle 2018-09-01T22:33:57Z

Solid entry man! The music is pretty rockin-- I like it! The fact that you can't move over where the tractors have been is a nice use of the theme, and shooting the tractors is pretty satisfying. Overall a nice game!

Character Assassin by ReboundGames 2018-08-31T04:52:07Z

My girlfriend and I had a fun time playing this little game together. Interesting idea-- it really tested our communication abilities. :)

Stax of the Dead by loveapplegames 2018-09-01T10:08:44Z

This was really fun! Kind of a mash up between Space Invaders and Candy Crush, maybe?! Something like that, haha! At any rate, nice work on the design, and great use of the theme. Cheers!

Pianobots by fonserbc 2018-08-31T19:56:19Z

Definitely an innovative approach to the theme! Nice work on the compositions-- that had to be a challenge making it the right difficulty and level of complexity.

Blowup by Gildar76 2018-09-02T04:40:17Z

Not a bad concept, although after awhile it feels a bit like watching a simulator than playing a game, since there's nothing the player can do while the ball is bouncing around within a screen full of blocks. Perhaps adding one more gameplay element that would allow the player to do something during this time may be helpful in the future. Cool soundtrack. Overall nice work!

Knight's Crush by Zaphire 2018-09-02T01:00:58Z

@zaphire Loved the graphics and animations! Definitely the best part of the game for me. I found the movement / camera controls a little hard to get the hang of, maybe that could use a little polishing, or maybe I could just use some more practice. Nice entry!

Plug And Shoot by Hagge 2018-09-02T20:37:44Z

I really enjoyed this game though I was kinda bad at it! The graphics look great and I enjoyed the plug system. Nice entry guys!

Petris by JoshyOshKenoshi 2018-09-01T21:19:56Z

A cute spin on the Russian classic. My girlfriend thought the artwork and pet theme was really cute. Funny sound effects too! Was it hard to code a Tetris clone? Might be fun to try. Game played well. Nice work!

Grid Locked by DrunkardWolf 2018-09-02T03:39:34Z

Really nice work man! A simple but addictive game! The UI has plenty of "juice," the score counting up, the text pulsating, screen fading in/out, fairly simple stuff to do probably but adds a lot. Great entry!

Prog-Jet vs Guardians by Bismark 2018-09-01T09:02:57Z

Classic Tron, of course. Looks familiar! ;) This concept for a game goes way back to the old days too, but it's definitely fun to see it in a 3D format, especially with the additions of the player abilities. Nice entry!!

ForestDefence by lunarDust 2018-09-01T08:06:48Z

Nice use of the isometric view with a voxel graphic style-- I like! The use of the stealth/FOV element for the enemies was cool, too. As a huge fan of natural ambient sound, I automatically loved that, too. I felt like the dynamic between the lion and the "cutters" could be a little more interesting, like the movement rate not being exactly the same, or some other variable in there. But overall a very pleasing little game that's easy to learn and easy to replay if you die. Very solid entry, @lunardust!

CapyBarbra: A New Brow by Ratherjolly 2018-08-29T21:12:25Z

@Ratherjolly definitely a hilarious entry, man! The difficulty gets pretty hard pretty quick, so it's hard to last too long, but definitely got a chuckle out of it. Funny intro too!

The Red pixel by RainbowKappaGames 2018-09-01T07:17:08Z

@crafty-mine I love platformers! I made one for LD42, as well. In some ways, yours is more forgiving than mine, in some ways, not. I do like how you give the player a "free hit" with the half-heart icon, and allow them to start off roughly where they died. The gameplay reminds me a bit of "Celeste." Nice level/puzzle designs and the jump and wall jump feel good. Could use some graphics updates and sound but I'm sure you know that already. Nice job! Good start for a 2D platformer/puzzler.

Not Enough Space in Space by clue 2018-09-01T22:20:02Z

Nice game! I love shooters, so if I could have actually manually been shooting, I think I would have liked that better. An interesting use of the theme. A little more polish and letting the player actually shoot may make it even more fun. Good work!

Rick Dervish - Space Cadet by coldfire83 2018-09-01T07:55:03Z

I'm a massive fan of shmups / bullet hell games, so I automatically love this based on genre. The control of the ship felt decent, firing rate felt ok (maybe could be a bit faster but less powerful-- seems more exciting while still doing same DPS), and enemies not too bad either! I've always been fascinated with the different firing patterns of the enemies in these types of games-- they really add to the experience and force the player to learn and react, which I feel like is crucial. You seem to have done a good job implementing some of these firing patterns! I played this game longer than some others. Perhaps graphics could use some love, but overall, certainly a fun game. I really appreciate your entry, nice work!

Der Raum by alexfalkenberg 2018-09-02T20:12:29Z

Very cool retro-arcade style game! Is the game influenced by Gauntlet, perhaps? I like the feel of the controls and the two-stick approach is fun. Nice entry, I hope you get to 20 ratings!

City Gardener by PacoChan 2018-09-02T00:31:22Z

I got 850 my first time! Your graphics, animations, and vibe are really great, @pacochan! The concept is fun too. Once I realized you could start the progress bars and then move away and do something else, it definitely got a lot more fast paced. Clever use of the theme, and again, great art and vibe! Awesome work man!

Space Crusher by Brallex 2018-08-29T11:02:32Z

Really nice little game! Character movement is smooth and enjoyable and the concept is a nice use of the theme.

The Subway: horror within by Bibilega 2018-09-02T07:34:32Z

Fantastic art and music. A great use of the theme! Gameplay is not bad, has some fun elements regarding when to use what. Overall fantastic work!! Extremely solid entry!

Pizza Defender by Sloyd 2018-09-02T20:31:05Z

Fun game and great use of the theme. The graphics and animation are definitely my fave part about this! Solid entry!

Power Ports & Pollution by CeeJap 2018-09-01T07:21:30Z

No clue how this game works, sorry. I tried.

Get To The Airlock by Dan Davis 2018-09-01T07:30:54Z

As a big fan of spikes in 2D games, of course I'm board with this one. The placement of both the collectibles and the hazards force players to make quick decisions, which of course is great. Player choice is crucial. Take your time versus greed rush. Nice work. Overall a really nice game. If I had small criticism it would be maybe a better UI indicator of your "health" aka O2. That's being nitpicky though. Really solid entry, guys, nice work!

PhoneBreaker by Daniel Rincon 2018-09-01T09:55:23Z

Nice game! I'm curious how the math works behind the number of texts per person over time! A fun entry.

French, Pen Price, DOOM! by Mmmuscus 2018-09-02T20:25:15Z

Favorite thing about this game is the handwritten / hand-drawn element. Nice touch! It's certainly a unique and interesting concept that uses the theme well. Nice entry!

XORN: The Fallen God by ThibaultAr 2018-08-29T09:32:12Z

Excellent visual polish on this game! I had a bit of trouble getting used to the interactions between the hero and the enemies, both hitting and being hit, but overall a really cool entry! Nice job!

No Space In My Stomach by Roman Petrov 2018-08-29T09:19:51Z

Fun art style and relaxing yet thoughtful gameplay. Background music is pleasant, but pretty loud. Clever level designs, too. Nice work!

Garbage Collector by bitowl 2018-09-01T08:36:13Z

Really cool game! Definitely had me rushing around like a mad man! Found a little bug (which may already be known). During the tutorial phase at the beginning, when it says "hold the button to throw further," if you don't do that, it seems to get stuck in a loop where only one box spawns, or at least at seemed like it for me. Guess I should've followed directions. :) A really nice game though, graphics were simple but cool and audio was stressful which seemed to fit. Overall, nice work!

Tower of Destiny by Eric Schmiel 2018-09-01T21:48:18Z

Very cool first entry! Reminds me of the old Zelda / Aghanhim fights a little bit. Tried to chase the wizard down but I guess that's not the proper strategy since he can infinitely teleport. Fun little game, man, nice work! I like the 8-bit audio too.

Camp Snuggle by Scott Steffes 2018-08-30T08:54:19Z

Great proof that a simple concept can be fun. I think I need to learn from this small scope; I always scope too large. Interesting layering of the vocals in the BG track too-- again, not what I would do, but has an interesting appeal. Nice work.

Blooming Heights by Jakupf 2018-09-03T21:48:14Z

Nice work @jakupf! I really like the classic pixel art style and this was a fun take on a gardening game. Certainly a nice use of the theme. Solid entry!

The Okinawan Samourai by Voxel Forest 2018-09-01T08:41:47Z

Reminds me a little bit of "Kung Fu" from the classic Nintendo days. I have to say, the controls need work. A simple Left/Right/Spacebar would have sufficed, I think. Cool retro graphics and styling, though, definitely a fan of that.

Flash Flush by BustosMan 2018-09-02T04:55:45Z

Interesting idea for a game! I actually found the audio and the rising / falling of the water strangely relaxing.

Dash Brawler by glitchman 2018-09-02T04:03:58Z

Great retro aesthetic here! I like the polish with the intro, dialogue, ending, etc. Definitely a completed game! Perhaps a bit easy, but that may be better than it being too hard. Nicely done!

Quatris - LD42 - Running out of Space by KiotiKid 2018-09-04T00:28:03Z

@kiotikid This game was really fun. As a huge Tetris fan, of course I like it. The concept is interesting, though in a way it just kind of seems like you're playing 4 Tetris games at once. I suppose the 4 sides do start to interact as it gets more crowded though. Nice entry, I played it for awhile!

The City Of Forgotten Toys by dk5000p 2018-09-02T19:48:15Z

Definitely a funny game, man, especially the intro voiceover and the background music made with vocal sounds.

Bunny Ice Cream Maker by rkhadder 2018-09-01T21:04:08Z

Hilarious! Is that an audio recording of your voice? How do you win? Interesting game, I may have nightmares now... ;)

Pyramidion by Matank 2018-09-01T07:09:03Z

Nice use of the theme! A simple concept for a game that actually goes a long way. Artwork was not bad, gameplay made sense. Good work!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-08-27T13:32:12Z

@brallex Please feel free to try the Web version! Thanks!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-08-29T09:22:01Z

@roman-petro Yes, I'm definitely late getting to the playing and rating! Gonna be a big week! Thanks for your reply. Playing yours now.

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-08-29T11:40:39Z

@unfinished Thanks for the nice feedback. I'll look into that jump mechanic for sure and consider some enemy collisions as well. As for the pacing, the difficulty level is currently on a timer that lasts slightly longer on each level. The diff level increases enemy health, damage, poison rise rate, poison damage, enemy spawn rate, enemy count limit, etc. Maybe a bit more complex than I had first intended. Quite a lot to balance!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-08-30T23:25:36Z

@mza Thanks for playing and rating! I agree that a controller is better for this type of game. A Windows port with gamepad support is coming tonight, hopefully. I'll update you! I appreciate the feedback!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-08-31T02:01:46Z

@mza Just finished a Windows port, so you can use a controller! Please feel free to download and try it with a gamepad if you like! Definitely feels way better with a controller.

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-08-31T18:09:47Z

@demn @occultone Thanks guys for the really detailed feedback!! Regarding the jumping, I may need to add a "coyote jump" for a few frames to make the jumps more forgiving. Or, I may just redesign some of the areas to make the jumps easier that way. For the music, I do adore Castlevania SOTN, and was considering going with a more orchestral rock sound, but I decided for a more tribal sound on this one. But as I add more levels, there will be more music to come! Definitely a huge fan of SOTN, as you could probably tell from the gameplay in my game. Color palette is indeed very obnoxious and limited-- it could use some tweaks for sure. More variety at least. I agree with you there. @demn I have to say that you're the first player to comment that the game actually isn't challenging ENOUGH, most people say it's way too hard. Still working on that difficulty balance. I think it comes down to how familiar a player is with this genre. If you've mastered SOTN, you're going to be great at this game off the bat. :) Thanks to everyone who's played and rated the game so far. I really appreciate that!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-01T23:49:11Z

Hi @boopsgames, thanks for playing and rating my game! My effort to connect to the theme was that the room is filling with poison forcing the player to move upwards, thus running out of space. I may not have made it as obvious as I should have, though. Regardless, I appreciate your feedback!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-01T23:51:45Z

Hey there @larzan, I really appreciate you playing the game! I may add W as a jump button later, although you can currently use J as well. Also working on proper gamepad support, which will help immensely. The stuttering during the attacks are indeed a feature. In the air, your character will hover for a moment after attacking an enemey, a concept I borrowed from Mega Man games. Also the game will pause very briefly for added effect whenever you land a critical hit (red damage numbers). Thanks so much for your detailed feedback and I'm so glad you enjoyed the game!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-01T23:53:13Z

@shakedimus Thanks for playing and rating! I think I should have made the objective more clear, for sure. Maybe an arrow pointing upwards? Also a map would be great-- maybe in the future! You can use Z to zoom out to see more of the map, hopefully that will help. And yes, a bit more feedback from the player getting hit would be good too, maybe a knockback or louder sound? Changes to come! Thanks for the feedback!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-01T23:55:08Z

@siimer @danielblanco3d Thanks for your feedback guys! The air delay effect is definitely something I borrowed from some Mega Man games-- I always thought it was fun to stay airborne longer. This may be the pause or stutter that you're experiencing. Sorry if it felt like a bug. Also, when there are lots of enemies spawned, especially in higher difficulty level, the game does get a bit laggy due to so many objects in the scene. Working on optimizing that for future updates. Thanks for playing!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-01T23:57:06Z

Hi @corbak and @dominic, Thanks for the generous feedback. Still working on some difficulty balance issues for future releases-- that was one of my biggest challenges when making this little game. Glad you enjoyed the "intro waterfall drop," Dominic! I thought it was a fun intro to the level too and you're the first to comment on it. Thanks. :)

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-02T00:56:15Z

@the-tophat-demon Thanks so much for the positive and constructive feedback! I'm so glad you liked the game. Still working on optimization so I don't get so much lag when so many enemies spawn. Definitely looking forward to polishing the graphics, UI, gameplay, and level design in the future, but so glad you enjoyed them! Thanks again for playing and for your feedback!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-02T06:02:40Z

@bustosman Thanks so much man, I'm so glad you liked it! Yes, that's a good idea about having the respawning blocks look different, maybe I'll add that in a future update. Thanks again for the awesome feedback!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-04T00:03:19Z

@rik-thunder Thanks for the high praise, man! Yes, I definitely went all out (didn't sleep much), but it's my first real game. So glad you enjoyed it!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-04T00:04:14Z

@goda Thanks for the playing and for the feedback. Yes, I admit that playing on the keyboard doesn't feel as nice as with a controller. Definitely takes some getting used to for a platformer-style game. I'm so glad you liked the gameplay and music, I really appreciate that!!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-04T00:05:24Z

@jonathan-lorenz Sorry for the lag, I've had quite a few users report this. Still working on optimizing everything and making the enemy spawners more efficient-- pretty sure they're the cause of the lag. Also still perfecting the jump. I assume you mean "lighter" to mean more floaty? I'll be tweaking it in future updates. Thanks for the feedback man!

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-04T00:07:27Z

@knarf Really glad you enjoyed the vibe, both visually and music-wise! I look forward to making more music and art simultaneously (as I did for the jam) to see how they can influence each other. Hoping to make a very cohesive aesthetic in the future updates for this little game. Sorry for the lag-- still working on that, as well as game difficulty balance. Thanks so much for playing and for the feedback.

Poisoned Palace by jordantanner 2018-09-04T00:09:08Z

@brinegamers-productions Thanks for playing and for the kind words! The attack radius is pretty large-- this is something I toyed with a little bit but didn't spend too much time on. It's loosely modeled after the attack style in the oNinja Gaiden and Strider games. Maybe it does reach a little too far, I'll play around with it for future updates. Thanks for the feedback!

Electric Sleep by uncannyvalley 2018-08-29T21:18:43Z

@Uncannyvalley I've never really played text-based games before, but I have to say, the style of this one is really cool. I got a bit lost in the menus, I think it may be useful to have a bit more instruction there as far as possible commands. But pretty sweet! Love the cyberpunk immersion. I will come back and play some more after I rate a few more games. Solid entry!

Homos Save the World by atom0520 2018-09-02T20:01:46Z

Definitely a funny little game-- the concept is definitely unique and interesting, though may bother some folks. The FPS controls felt pretty good, and the gameplay was challenging. Solid entry!

Shrink by Sinan Kozak 2018-08-29T11:21:02Z

A nice simple concept that can definitely be entrancing. It reminds me of a few other mobile games I've seen, but hey it's super effective! Music and art would add, of course, but this is a great reminder that games don't have to be complex to be fun. Nice work!

Grave Heart by very dark lord 2018-09-02T01:20:56Z

A really solid entry guys! The store adds some complexity to the game, the graphics are nice, hilarious voice acting and comedy across the board. Great work!

WearOut by Abhis1Kadian 2018-08-29T10:56:57Z

I like the audio! Gameplay concept is not too shabby, but could have a little more to it! Fun game, thanks guys, and congrats!

Changing spaces by Shakedimus 2018-09-01T20:50:58Z

Definitely a really fun game! I like how you can kill yourself with your own bullets. A really solid entry for being so simple and for not having much time. I'm learning a lot this Ludum Dare about how simplicity can actually be a huge advantage as long as the core design of a game is fun. Nice work @shakedimus!

AGAIN by Colorfiction 2018-08-31T20:33:02Z

Great immersive mood and ambience. The music track is stellar. I do wish the gameplay had a bit more to it, although I think the shifting maze concept is clever. Was that tough to code? Overall, the aesthetic is the real draw here!

Bunnymark by Azumin 2018-09-01T09:36:50Z

The gameplay almost feels a bit "chess-like" as both player and opponent make choices in a strategic, timed fashion. Deinitely has a RTS game vibe due to this as well, forcing the player to make choices as time progresses. I wish the enemies were more easily identified. Maybe a red health bar vs a yellow one? Nice work overall!

Running Out Of Spice by Raivk 2018-08-31T19:24:09Z

An awesome little space racer game! Love the particle effects and graphics in general. The Unity post-processing is a nice touch too. Jammin soundtrack too! Great work guys!

The Gargoyle Landing by BoopsGames 2018-09-01T22:05:23Z

I like the fast movement of the player and the fast response of the gun. The enemy tiles look really cool too! Nice concept for a game. I'm glad the music is kind of relaxing, otherwise I might've lost my mind. Solid entry!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Fake game by PoV 2019-05-22T07:25:09Z

@pov Te amo!

Cold Dream by reheated 2019-05-07T11:52:31Z

I really, really dig the music. Nice orchestral horn sounds. Great work on that! Interesting choices to be made in this game, I think you did well designing the cards and the way the resources all interact. I think placing a time limit per turn may even help to push things along and keep players from overthinking things like I sometimes found myself doing. Nice work!

Lifeless by Kaisean Games 2019-05-06T08:23:34Z

Not my cup of tea but props for creating an experience that a user probably wouldn't expect. That approach may or may not work elsewhere but certainly fits for a jam. Thanks for sharing. :)

PATH, a game of life by Ekilibr 2019-05-07T10:53:37Z

Great entry, guys. Right away, the mood and aesthetic is captivating, and the meaning behind the game is heart-wrenchingly beautiful, because you know, life is beautiful. The graphics and audio seemed to really work well together, and the polish on everything is really nice (particle effects, squash and stretch on player animation, text-based dialogue, tile mechanics, etc). All very nicely done!

Spent by AkirAssasin 2019-05-07T10:14:39Z

@akirassasin Very cool, man. Definitely made me think. In a jam full of games doing largely the same thing, this one certainly stands out. I think it could use a bit more content and certainly some audio, but the core idea is there and I found it interesting and thought-provoking. Nice work and solid entry!

Oink Royale by Skoggy 2019-05-22T08:09:18Z

@skoggy Congrats on those ratings man, holy sh#!@! Nice work!

Robot Town by quadtree 2019-05-13T08:14:01Z

@quadtree I liked it, man, nice work. The environment felt pretty nice to navigate around in combined with the music, creating a pretty solid mood. The mechanics seemed to work fairly well with the right and mouse click, each having their own respective resource costs. I think more feedback could be given to the player when they die (although I guess they'll figure it out), and also I felt like sometimes I died while my healthbar still showed that I had health remaining, though maybe that's a bug. All in all, great work, especially for a solo dev in 48H!

Mint by nopogo 2019-05-13T09:14:25Z

Environment was f@#$ fantastic

Fortress Knights by elrobo 2019-05-13T10:22:28Z

@elrobo Diggin the gameboy style, man. Gameplay was basic but felt pretty good. Certainly some Mario influence with the block breaking, nice! As others have said, the retro style stands out. Nice work!

Lunch Lord by madjackmcmad 2019-05-06T11:45:21Z

@madjack Man, you were right about leaderboards. Drives people into a frenzy.

Wagawoa by amymist 2019-05-07T11:18:00Z

@amymist This is a very cool entry. Your hand-drawn graphics are really cool, and I'm assuming you composed/produced the music, too. Very nicely done! The dialogue was fun and that card game concept was kinda cool but a couple times I caught myself wishing I was actually playing the card game rather than watching a group of people play it. But I can definitely respect the visual novel approach that you took and I think it's a super solid entry. You deserve more ratings! Cheers.

SPENDOTRON: 2019 by KilledByAPixel 2019-05-13T08:41:37Z

@killedbyapixel Good work, sir. Loved the arcade vibe and especially the "rainbow" color-cycling used on many of the UI elements and other "currency" objects. I didn't last long-- I felt the big "B's" (couldn't remember the currency) were a little tough to move. Solid entry!

Galactic Boarder by neontropics 2019-05-10T04:17:18Z

I actually really like the visual style of this with the strong outlines and the posterized kind of look. Was it a custom shader or something that was used to achieve this? For a physics-based game like this, I think the physics could have used much more tuning, but I think the concept was kinda cool. Didn't see much use of the theme. Cool idea!

F_NULL by feips 2019-05-13T09:04:20Z

@feips Really really nice job on this. I sucked, but maybe should've plugged in a controller. Definitely reminded me of listening to "Big Blue" theme song while playing F-Zero (that's what was playing in my head since there was no music). I felt the life penalty was a bit unforgiving when you hit the walls and when you use your boost, but maybe I didn't practice enough. Then again, for a Ludum Dare game, how long will people practice playing it? All in all, super solid entry, loved the graphics and racing theme, haven't seen much of that in LD.

Soul Surge by Brackeys 2019-05-06T11:03:47Z

@brackeys Big fan of the channel. It felt like enemies kept getting through my sword swing. Maybe I was swinging late. Regardless, thanks for being awesome, man! Also, adding "lives" to an otherwise rogue-like design made sense in this game jam context. "Soft-Roguelike"? Love, Jordan.

Coin-Op Kid by Strega 2019-05-22T08:07:39Z

Grats, guys. Nice simple execution, as LD entries should be. Very Celeste. Nice work!

Sinner by kazuo256 2019-05-11T13:38:55Z

Biggest LD Jam team I've seen! Cool game!

Blood Money by Dom Harris 2019-05-11T07:51:17Z

Pretty awesome! Music was rad, pew pew SFX were funny. Props on the procedural generation, that's not always easy to implement. Skelly animations were super fun, great work on that. For a shooter, I think the "feel" of shooting is super important, and I think this game could benefit from better shooting feel. And perhaps more obvious feedback to the user when taking damage. Loved the Thriller dance, too. Nice work guys!

Life Merchant by Webox 2019-05-07T10:34:13Z

@webox Due to some things going on in my personal life, this entry's simple take on aging struck a chord with me. From "I can't fight" to "I'm too old to push rocks," these could be perceived as representing actual struggles that people have to deal with throughout life. I like the change in tone (ambient color and music) depending on the character's age. The puzzles were also simple but clever. Reminded me a little of Lolo on the NES or something. Nice work!

DEADline by SecretPocketCat 2019-05-22T08:17:01Z

@secretpocketcat Glad you did so well in Innovation, you definitely deserve it!! :)

Body + Soul by SleepyStudios 2019-05-13T09:57:06Z

@sleepystudios Hey guys, nice work. I'm not sure that the way the life bars work was well communicated (soul life bar vs. your life bar), but I figured it out. Is there a way to regain health for either life bar? Just curious. I like the "juicy" scaling of the sprites, I think that was a nice touch. Solid entry guys.

Space Gunner by GerardB 2019-05-05T12:00:46Z

@gerardb Very cool concept and gameplay man! I especially like the variation you were able to achieve from round to round while basically using the same assets. Did you do all that with shaders and/or materials? Nice work!

Knit Worth by ColeSlaughter 2019-05-04T07:55:37Z

Loved the twitch-response gameplay and interesting audio. Felt like guitar hero meets Simon, that classic color-coded memory game originating from the 80's. Really solid entry and definitely unique!

EDIT: Also thought the old-school vertex shader look was very nice.

I Burn by mamoniem 2019-05-04T11:50:56Z

@mamoniem Very pretty. Didn't stay til the end. I assume it melts.

Knock Knock... The travelling soulsman by Angry Squirrels 2019-05-07T12:19:55Z

Really great entry, guys. This is so polished, it's remarkable. Love the music and art. And the humor element is absolutely there. Excellent excellent work!!

Gore by Tudvari 2019-05-13T09:45:22Z

@tudvari Did I die? Did I win? Wasn't sure. For a compo game this was ambitious and is pretty cool. Background music subtlety along with the lighting was the best thing about it, IMO. Cheers, brotha.

Dear Substance of Kin by Deconstructeam 2019-05-10T04:09:49Z

An impressive entry, guys. The mood, graphics, and audio were stellar. I was a bit unsure what to do after the first "killing," but I trudged on. Great writing, too, perhaps there should be a "Narrative" category. Fantastic entry!

One More Drop by ZAX 2019-05-09T09:29:38Z

Great job, guys, this was a pretty fun game. I have to say, I really liked the enemies so it would have been more fun to encounter more of them... I found myself wandering aimlessly not knowing where to go a lot of the time. The charge mechanic was really cool and was probably the best part of the combat. Enemy designs were pretty cool, too. Overall, nice work. Thanks!

Bloody Accord by Ryfi 2019-05-07T10:00:25Z

@ryfi @twenty5clocks @cincerteri Nice game, guys. I can really appreciate the 3D modeling and the arena-style battle system. Took me a few tries to realize how the upgrade system but worked but it was fun to play with once I got it figured out. As others have said, probably a little too much headbob and some other gameplay mechanics maybe need some fine tuning, but all in all a pretty cool experience. Solid entry!

Necroxeon by Lyrcaxis 2019-05-11T08:32:42Z

I like the graphics in this, especially the environment. Is that some kind of photoshop filter that was applied? Looks cool. Music was fantastic too, great work on that. I found the game a bit frustrating and difficult but I definitely liked the vibe. Excellent entry!!

Robo Portrait by finalspace 2019-05-04T08:02:16Z

@finalspace Cool game! I love how the graphics pulse to the music. Is there beat detection happening in the code or did you just synchronize the animations with music manually?

Interesting idea for a game. One thought, it may be more fair to the player to display the desired pattern for a few seconds before the marker starts to move. Just a thought.

All in all, solid entry!

Work Life Balance by DigNZ 2019-05-06T12:57:53Z

@dignz Nice game. What I found interesting was the social commentary.

Twitchlings by DocFallout 2019-05-07T11:01:46Z

I think the Twitch integration concept is really cool, are there a lot of games out there like this already, or is the concept fairly new? Either way, I really like it. I had some trouble telling what was going on in the game, maybe more feedback for the player could help with this. All in all, solid entry. Nice job!

Mansionvania by wildcard 2019-05-11T09:01:13Z

I really liked this. The 2.5D platforming experience was cool. Sound and music not too shabby. Graphics were not bad as well-- I liked the white characters against the darker purple background. You had a boss fight too! Boss AI was pretty good, that's not always easy to do. Nice work!!

Bloodletter by shp 2019-05-04T11:18:13Z

@shp Loving the Quake vibes! I did alright, but I wasn't great at dodging the projectiles. The shotgun felt reaaaaally good to shoot, and I like how you can pop two off super fast and then reload. Graphics look great, too. Amazing work all across the board.

My entry bears some similarities to this, taking from the old Doom/Heretic days. Cheers guys great job!

Cursed Samurai by palsina 2019-05-02T09:27:50Z

@palsina Great art in this game. Is the character scarf a physics cloth? I've always wanted to mess around with that. It adds a lot of feel to the character movement. Gameplay is a bit unforgiving as others have said but I do like the block mechanic. Nice work!

Lifeforms In Space by Eric Smith 2019-05-11T08:23:39Z

Loved the opening Star Wars text crawl, your hilarious voice acting, the hex grid, graphics, and music was great too. Excellent entry.

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-01T22:35:59Z

@team-on @johanhelsing hey guys thanks for the note. I finally figured out what was causing this. I was using multi-scene editing in Unity and there was some kind of cross-scene reference that was breaking and causing a fatal error. Thanks for understanding and please give my game a try when you have time. I'll be happy to return the favor! Thanks!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-02T09:10:57Z

@sadzanenyama I agree that enemy animations would be nice. Just didn't have time. Also, sorry for the lag, you're not the first person to mention this. I'll have to do an optimization patch soon! Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-02T09:13:54Z

@tk07 I know what you mean about the jump, I'm still not happy with it either. Maybe I should make it more like a platformer-style jump where you hold the jump button down to go higher, so you can kind of "stop jumping" when you want and have more control? Not sure yet. Regarding the Grenade Volley, I'm sorry to hear that spamming it crashed the game. Hadn't experienced that yet. Gonna have to optimize this thing. Thanks for the feedback!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-02T09:15:41Z

@palsina Glad you like the idea! I definitely found myself doing the same.. clear a path and then GO GO GO for the collectibles. Haha! Thank you for playing and for the feedback.

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-02T09:49:02Z

@ludwici Thanks so much! Wave 6 is pretty good! It's definitely harder than I thought it would be. Maybe I'll adjust some things later. Thanks for playing and posting.

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-03T22:33:04Z

Thanks for the kind words and for the feedback, guys!

@gerardb I'm glad you had fun playing it! I definitely wanted the player to feel powerful and strong, but I do feel that the game needs some difficulty balancing. I appreciate the detailed feedback.

@dk5000p As it stands now, there are infinite waves. I intend to release a difficulty balance patch soon so please check back!

@craftlord Thanks, dude. :)

@the-blue-hatted Sorry for the lag, I'm currently working to optimize that. Also, I'll be releasing a Windows port soon, so hopefully that will run faster on most people's machines.

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-05T04:40:41Z

@lexyvil, there is currently an issue with the jump that I'm working on fixing as we speak. Sorry about that!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-05T04:41:22Z

@cheesepencil @lexyvil @webox @edevjogos @henanboy @fatcrow Thanks to you all for playing and for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it! It is meant to be a tough game, but I do want to balance it so more people can experience more of the upgrades and get a little further in the game. Any opinions on how to balance this? Maybe just increase the spawn rate of the green and red orbs a tiny bit? Any thoughts on how to make the game SLIGHTLY easier would be appreciated. Thanks again you guys!!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-05T05:05:16Z

@fatcrow I'm so glad you consider it one of the better games, man, that really makes my night! I'll have to look into the mouse sensitivity issue. Thanks again!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-06T02:24:11Z

@madjackmcmad Thanks so much for playing and streaming my game, man, I really really appreciate it! It was a blast to watch you play, and I really appreciate the constructive feedback. So glad you had fun. I'll be playing and rating your game as well, and I'm now following on Twitch. See you around, brother!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-06T07:54:19Z

@pleyad Thanks so much for playing! I'm glad you liked the gauntlet, I thought it was kind of random and fun, too! :)

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-06T09:32:19Z

@kaisean-games I'm so glad you liked the game. Balancing was a tricky, tricky thing and I look forward to making some nice tweaks in a post-jam version coming soon. The orb spawn rate (both green and red) was a particularly hard thing to tune during playtesting.

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-06T09:40:50Z

@kaisean-games That's a great point about Difficulty settings... there rarely will ever be one difficulty scaling solution for "everyone." Definitely going to put Diff Levels in my post-jam version, good suggestion man!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-09T09:11:40Z

@nul Man, that is some super detailed and useful feedback! I was just now sitting here racking my brain about how to balance this thing (it's been really tough) and then I saw your comment.

First off, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the game, especially that you played it enough to really dig deeper into the math behind the risk vs. reward in the upgrades, etc. Super appreciated, thank you.

A flat regen rate is a good idea-- with a +% Regen, the Regen Upgrade becomes more and more valuable based on your Max Life, and that's harder to balance. It's something that I actually toyed with initially but had abandoned for the jam, wanting to make sure people didn't find the game too difficult. Also, you have a great point about the "Remove Health Cost" upgrade not actually being worth it at that point because it's so expensive and gets outweighed by the value of the Regen.

So... for my Post-Jam Version which will be posted when the jam ends (5/21), I'll take your advice and nerf the HP regen to a flat rate, and rework some of the upgrades so they make more sense regarding this.

Thanks for your super-detailed feedback, @nul, it means a lot that you took the time.

Cheers, Jordan

@jjjjason Thanks for playing and for the nice feedback. I'll have to try to reproduce that bug, I haven't encountered that yet. Thanks again!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-12T23:05:50Z

@eduardo-yukio That's an interesting point, man. My thoughts were that players would inherently want to shoot the enemies because the shooting feels good, and players like collecting powerups. But I suppose my current method could be abused, as you've pointed out. I wonder what a good way to handle this would be? Penalize the player somehow for not making any kills? Or maybe keeping 25% of the enemies after the wave ends? Thanks for the feedback!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-12T23:11:27Z

@eduardo-yukio Actually I think I have an idea for how to solve that. I'll add a "Kill Quota" for each wave that goes up with each wave. Players have to kill that many enemies as well as surviving the duration of the wave. If time runs out but they haven't killed enough to meet the kill quota, they'll have to keep going until they do. Then the wave will end. I think I'll put that in the post-jam version!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-16T15:58:05Z

@coleslaughter Thanks, Cole. Yep I love those old DOS games, man! And thanks yeah the gauntlet thing was really fun. I will definitely say that working out the enemy AI and the behavior of their projectiles has been very tricky, either making it way too hard or way too easy, and you're not the first to mention this. In my post-jam version (hopefully going to be done this weekend), I'll hopefully have a better spawning and AI system, which will not spawn enemies behind you within a certain range, and also better enemy projectile behavior. Working on some new gauntlet animations for "casting" the grenade volley, too. And also implementing online leaderboards, so that should be fun. :) Thanks for playing and for the constructive feedback, I appreciate it!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-19T09:35:25Z

@wildcard Thanks for playing and for the kind feedback. I definitely agree that a little bit of polish goes a long way, especially with anything interactable like a menu or button, it helps to give the user some feedback somehow. Thanks again!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-19T13:26:28Z

@conk I agree, I'm looking forward to adding more content like that. Thanks! :)

@peterfonts Hi there! The MouseLook behavior I used was just the built-in Unity First Person Controller MouseLook. I modified the First Person Controller quite a lot, but didn't really modify the MouseLook at all. Hope that helps. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-20T07:49:27Z

@coda-highland I'm glad you feel that way! This was definitely made with a "gameplay-first" mentality. Gotta build the core first and then polish it more later! If you'd like, please consider playing the new version with leaderboards and other features at http://jordantanner.itch.io/darkling Thanks!

Darkling by jordantanner 2019-05-21T01:24:23Z

@shess Thank you, Shess! Yes, I think the enemy AI and projectile could use some work so that the game is a bit more fair. I'm so glad you felt that the gameplay was engaging-- that was my main goal in the development, so that's great to hear! I posted a gameplay video that shows my "strategy" in dealing with the waves if you'd like to check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-zM7qe_qko. Thanks again for playing!

@gamedevkng Great ambient sound and cool art. I couldn't get very far but I like the vibe.

Paylife by deformhead 2019-05-13T08:31:00Z

@deformhead Excellent work. If you haven't ported it to mobile yet, I totally would, I'm sure it's simplicity would shine in that format. Really cool man, esp for 24H!

Big Facinating Mutants by hexkritor 2019-05-20T16:39:56Z

Love the rock music! Super solid gameplay too, nice work!

Bloom by Fadex 2019-05-13T09:22:41Z

@fadex Really nice. I assume you did all the art and music yourself. Quite good. Nice move adding physics forces to the main "player" object using the mouse movement, it works pretty damn well. Also the tutorial intro was quite tastefully done. Very good entry!!

MoneyBag by Lexyvil 2019-05-07T09:45:30Z

@lexyvil Nice work! I like the physics-based movement and the fact that you're penalized for being clumsy, or rather, NOT penalized for being smooth and mastering the mechanics. I also dig the music/sound. Cool submission!!

Vampire Quest by cyriaque 2019-05-11T07:28:44Z

Cool game, I love platformers! I think you guys did a solid job with the art and the music. Gameplay is not bad. I noticed a small bug in the starting "shaded" area-- when you move or jump it restarts the music. This didn't seem to happen in other "shaded" areas. Cool idea and pretty solid implementation, nice work guys!

Over by alixmi 2019-05-10T03:59:29Z

Mood, Graphics, and Audio were very nice. The way you can "cross the void" for a bit is a nice touch, it certainly adds some depth to the otherwise simple concept. Nice work! P.S. Why did you choose to use "Q" for move left, rather than "W"?

Transfert by p0nce 2019-05-04T13:00:17Z

@p0nce Nice Hokusai reference in there. I love the idea of generating art assets from photos, in fact I did that same thing as well. The rain droplets look really good, and I also like the concept that the child is the only thing that matters, i.e. the only thing that has a damageable collider attached to it. Nice entry!

Rollin' Bonez by J. H. Freedman 2019-05-13T10:46:57Z

Graphics and Audio pretty solid. Gameplay hard to understand.

Phaser's Edge by ComicSans 2019-05-07T11:29:45Z

Love me some space shooters! I found myself wishing for some faster-paced mechanics, but then again maybe I'm just a speed freak. Really cool vibe in this one. How many parallax starfield layers are there? I'm guessing three. Looks really good, well done guys!

Danko by Pixel_Error 2019-05-10T03:52:24Z

Graphics and Audio were really, really good. Game feel was okay, and maybe a little too much camera shake. A really good entry, guys.. Nice work!

2019 Game - Ludum Dare 44 by FatCrow 2019-05-07T10:45:05Z

@fatcrow Nice entry man! I love simply physics-based games and this one is no exception. I couldn't get very far, but I can appreciate the mechanics and also the fun pixel art. I'm assuming the difficulty of the opponent (in story mode) is dictated by how fast they can move to block the ball? Solid game!

2019 Game - Ludum Dare 44 by FatCrow 2019-05-07T21:10:10Z

@fatcrow Cool to learn how the difficulty works. And thanks for showing your friends, I really really appreciate that. Feels good! Post-Jam version coming soon with online leaderboards so you guys can compete. :)

Cowry - A game about change by johanhelsing 2019-05-02T08:32:21Z

@johanhelsing Hi Johan! Finally got a chance to check out your game. Thanks for posting in my comments and trying to help me troubleshoot my "black screen bug", I really appreciate that.

The mood in this little game is really great, man. When you have to split up in the game, it definitely made me feel something. We've all been there. Change is definitely hard. The message this game sends is really insightful and important, and I think you nailed it.

Gameplay-wise, the physics were fun to play around with. As others have said, it would have been nice if the experience was a little longer. But hey, we had a weekend, right? Was that you playing the acoustic guitar? Sounds nice. All in all, great work, sir!

An American Blood Clot in Techno Athens by Shuu 2019-05-11T08:50:22Z

Great game. As some have said, faster respawn time would be great because I died ALOT. Mechanics not bad, hard to get the hang of. I probably should've plugged in a gamepad. Really nice pixel art and character animations (blood splatter when landing, death explosion, etc), and backgrounds/tilemaps looked nice too. Sweet!

BloodThirst by Gassi Games 2019-05-13T10:11:54Z

@gassi-games Really solid entry! Love the simple but effective art style. Audio was solid. Gameplay and design was simple but fun and was fairly easy to learn quickly, which is especially effective for Ludum Dare games since player's attention spans are short (hell, they are usually anyway!) Excellent entry!

Collecting Really Nice Cats! by cheesepencil 2019-05-06T08:42:05Z

@cheesepencil Nice chatting/interacting with you on stream earlier today! Loved the funny sound effects and the mechanics worked pretty well too. Thanks man!

Demon Apprentice by c0d3d 2019-05-13T10:40:29Z

@c0d3d Solid game! The biggest thing I liked was the user input. Having the player use the mouse to "swing the scyth"e really connects with what swinging a scythe might feel like, or at least close enough for a game. Connecting the feel of the user input to what's happening on screen seems important, and that really worked here. The wave/upgrade combo has been common this Ludum Dare due to the theme, but it definitely works too. Overall great entry!

The Price is People by Scofflaw Games 2019-05-09T11:10:14Z

Haven't played enough LD games that use Ragdoll physics.. super fun to play with!

Veins of Gold by slagathor 2019-05-11T07:40:48Z

For such a simple game, this was actually pretty darn fun. I enjoyed spamming "E" after buying drugs, trying to "beat" the health regen. Another thing I noticed is the juiciness of the UI. Lots of nice UI feedback in the healthbar slider as well as the HP text. Graphics are cool, but not sure they fit the "blood bank" theme. Overall though, nice work!

KYNIGI - LIFE, DEATH & ROBOTs by florG 2019-05-07T11:58:40Z

Graphics were the best selling point here, in my opinion. Great work on that. The camera kick when you shoot is a little bit much-- I would say dial that back a bit. Sound was good. I enjoyed the procedural generation. I think that's a really nice touch. The visual polish is really really good, but in my opinion could use polish in some of the gameplay mechanics. Super solid entry regardless. Excellent work!!

Bound by Soul by Chili Turtle 2019-05-04T12:23:50Z

@chili-turtle The different projectiles were fun when I got them to work. Sometimes I would just get one-shotted and it would be frustrating, but nice work, especially for 48 hours!!

utsvulten by ditto 2019-05-07T12:09:41Z

If Radiohead made a game! Loved the characters and the way they react to mouse movement. Just enough "shock and awe" value to get people's attention and stand out which seems to be really valuable in a game jam. Very strange music which helped sell the disturbing vibe. Really cool entry, well done!!

BloodMageAdventure by Demuss 2019-05-07T11:41:12Z

I like the idea of creating platforms and then being able to retract them again, all the while using your health to do so. Fits the theme alright. Decent level design. Not a bad entry!

Sacrificial Ammunition by Cenoon 2019-05-11T08:36:31Z

Gotta love a straightforward shooter. Could use some polish but this is a solid first entry. Congrats on finishing your first game!

Death Bots by ProjectPixel 2019-05-10T04:25:46Z

@projectpixel Really love the graphics on this one. Do you mind sharing what kind of shader/settings you used to achieve this effect? Looks really awesome. Audio was solid. I felt the gameplay could use a few improvements. I would say, give the player more feedback about when they are being hit and about when an enemy is being hit. Also, the collision between the player projectiles and the enemies seems to not be very forgiving, or maybe my aim is just terrible. Anyway, I really like the graphics especially. Nice entry!

LD45 — Start with nothing

HEARTSCAPE by ZakAmana 2020-04-06T21:19:04Z

@zakamana Hey man, just played your game since I'm just bored waiting around for Theme Slaughter to start. Super solid entry! I was wondering, what technique (or tool) did you use for things like the tutorial and generally moving cards around the screen? Are you simply using Lerp, Translate, or something else? Thanks, great entry!

LD46 — Keep it alive

tyle by jordantanner 2020-04-22T14:42:18Z

@zesix Thanks so much, that's what I was trying for! @bilbycoder I'll try to these things more obvious in the post jam version! Thanks man.

@kamilko Thanks! I've been having some export issues with WebGL in Unity but hopefully I'll have it solved tomorrow-ish!

tyle by jordantanner 2020-04-22T14:44:29Z

@pilarius THANKS so much for reminding me of that, man! I didn't realize it looked like that since I had neglected to upload one earlier. Looks way better now, thanks again!

@smbe19 Sorry to hear that it was lagging, I haven't experienced that before. What browser were you using?

tyle by jordantanner 2020-04-25T13:06:23Z

@svntax Destroying multiple tiles has actually been implemented for v2.0 which should be posted soon! I'm glad you said this.... I was coding it when I read your comment. :)

@kyle-bowman Good point about the source. I'll have to get that up on GitHub too. Its been awhile since I've used that!

@zanthous Thanks for playing the new version and for the feedback. Conveying the timing window to the user has definitely been the biggest challenge with this project. A sound effect isn't a bad idea, but I wonder if the repetition of it would get annoying? Not sure. Something I may experiment with in the future. Thanks!

The Last Cactus by HomunculusGames 2020-04-23T10:06:02Z

@homunculusgames Incredibly solid entry, fellas. The audio and graphics were very very nice. It took me a few deaths to remember to water the cactus, and I also didn't initially realize that you could hold Q down to continuously water him. But I got the hang of it. What actually helped me was to just think of the health system as a more traditional one, like picking up potions and then using them when I'm low on health. Guess I'm just selfish. :) Nicely done!

Elementrees by Mathieu Semin 2020-04-25T04:06:09Z

Great game, guys, I especially loved the graphics. Had a little trouble figuring out how to take care of the trees but the combat aspect was really enjoyable. Just a random question, do you use AZERTY keyboards? Nice entry!

Ringchaser by jordantanner 2020-10-08T02:05:20Z

@guitarbro Thanks for the detailed feedback man, glad you enjoyed playing it. Sorry the Web version is having issues, I'll have to pin down why. Thanks for downloading the PC version though. I did toy with the idea of not using the full numpad; maybe I'll explore that for the post-jam version. And i'd definitely like to add some camera angle changes, changes in lighting, etc for when you move up in level. Hopefully I'll get all of that in during the next two weeks when I'm working on the post jam version. Thanks again for the feedback, I'll be sure to play your game asap!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Demon Sigil by Justin Herrick 2022-04-11T19:05:20Z

Super fun game, guys! The pixel art was super solid and and the shooting felt good. Took me a few minutes to realize you could reactivate the barriers -- that was a nice touch. I got pretty far on the boss, but as expected, perished a terrible, fiery death. Excellent submission!

Heat Death by triggthediscovery 2022-04-10T02:29:35Z

I love the globe, it was super fun to move around. Programming the different segments to receive components and having the conveyor belts connect was probably not an easy feat, so props on that. Game design wise, I had a little trouble figuring out what to do. Maybe I should've spent more time watching the tutorial. Nice entry!

Snooze by LancesCaterpie 2022-04-12T23:19:19Z

@lancescaterpie This was a really unique game! Novel concept and well excecuted. The conversations between hand and elbow were pretty hilarious, too. That alarm sound is super triggering for me (probably most of us), but the way you incorporated it into the music was super clever as well. Overall nice entry!!

MOTH by Beefsock 2022-04-12T21:18:27Z

@beefsock Amazing mood on this one. Having the player move from lit area to lit area (like a moth) was a very clever and minimalistic storytelling mechanic. Loved the retro low-res graphics. Did you use a special shade to achieve this, or is the output resolution of the game just set really low? Really fun ending, too. I played through it several times. I may consider making a shorter game in the future, I think it lends itself really well to game jams. As some others have said, usually for things to be considered a "game" there must be rules and victory/loss conditions which this seems to lack, but overall a very cool experience. Excellent entry!

Grandma by smiley 2022-04-11T19:14:50Z

@smiley Hey man, nice entry! I had some trouble getting the dash to work. Maybe I'm missing something? I didn't get super far, but I have to say, the music blew me away. Super atmospheric and moody. Excellent chord selection. Gave me a bit of a Hyperlight Drifter vibe, which I love. Rating high in the audio category for that reason. Nice work!!

Sir Blocksalot by jhandsy 2022-04-11T23:29:02Z

This a great little game, you guys! Creative concept, great graphics, and audio was on point too. As others have pointed out, some feedback on how you did and clearing the board after deaths might be a nice touch. Also I did experience some performance issues. The longer a round lasted, the slower the game seemed to perform. Maybe there are some scripts running on every frame in the instantiated objects (rocks and bushes) that are causing some cpu lag? Not sure the cause. Regardless, this is a super solid entry that you guys should be proud of! Well done!!

TOOB by Gatlink 2022-04-12T22:04:34Z

Love this entry! Reminds me a bit of the old Wipeout games. Incredible graphics and polish. I found the game quite difficult -- perhaps obstacles could be spaced out more or could be made to take up less space in the tube. Overall a fantastic submission, guys! Nice work. :)

Wizard Hunt by Timur_Bahadir 2022-04-12T19:16:30Z

I liked the vibe of this one. Nice artwork, combat was simple but fun. I found the platforming slightly difficult and found myself wishing that the pace of the camera rising was a little slower. Overall cool game though! Nice entry!

Farm Dog by Trypants 2022-04-09T19:46:57Z

Fantastic submission, you guys! The voxel models were enjoyable, as was the sound and music. Great menu system and the leaderboard was a nice touch. What did you use for the leaderboard? Dreamlo, or something else? Upgrade system was fun, and something I wish I'd implemented in my own game. Some feedback on when an enemy gets hit might be nice, like a flash, camera shake, or healthbar reducing. But overall, a lovely entry that you guys should be proud of. Well done!

Weed it & Reap by JavaSaurus 2022-04-11T22:56:10Z

@javasaurus Hey man! Great game. Concept, controls, and graphics were on point, and the audio clips were pretty funny. Leaderboard was a great touch, too! Did you use Dreamlo for that by chance, or something else? Great submission. Also, thanks again for playing and rating my game on stream earlier, I really appreciated that!

@asukanami Ugh, sorry to hear about the lag, but thanks for playing and for the feedback!

I'm working on implementing an object pool that would reuse the same particles over and over rather than creating hundreds of them on the fly, which is expensive for the CPU. Were you playing the web version?

Crystalysis by jordantanner 2022-04-09T05:54:11Z

@asukanami Oh okay! There's actually a downloadable Mac version at the bottom of the page if you'd care to try that! I haven't heard feedback from any Mac players yet. :)

Life On Mars by anstabo 2022-04-12T19:56:46Z

Absolutely lovely game. Music selection was great and really set the mood. A lonely reminder from planet Earth. The play area was well designed and the character controller worked fairly well. I did find myself upside down a lot, I think it would be a bit easier if the rover wouldn't get turned over quite so easily. The scan mechanic was really fun, as was the boost. Superb entry, guys. You should be very proud!

Crisis Chef: 28 Plates Later by simba 2022-04-10T02:57:12Z

This is a fantastic entry that you guys should be proud of! Incredible amount of polish, the mechanics are well implemented, the graphics are great, as is the audio. Nice tutorial, too. Super fun to play. I will say that the combination of cooking and zombie game was a bit odd (possibly in a humorous way), and either of the approaches could've worked on its own. Either way, great entry!!

Stone Sabbath by Caladrius 2022-04-09T17:25:42Z

Absolutely loved the PSX-era graphics. Control, audio, menu system, and tutorial were nice. The animations were really good too! Combat felt a bit arbitrary at times. Excellent "soulsian" references. Overall, excellent work you guys! Also, I'm sure making a game with 11 people was feat in itself. Nicely done!

You Are A Bomb by Benjamin Halko 2022-04-09T19:06:37Z

@benjamin-halko Great work on this! This level of simplicity is something I strive for but I seem to always over-develop my games. Super fun concept and well executed! Also, tell your Dad his music taste is sexy as hell. Lovely LD50 entry, Benjamin, keep it up!

Decontamination by KenForest 2022-04-12T20:20:30Z

@kenforest As others have said, the vibe in this game is very immersive and spooky. Only the sound of your footsteps and the light of the flashlight is great. The PS1-style shaders were really cool -- what tools did you use to make this? I had some trouble completing some of the tasks because the objects were very spread out, but overall, this is a fantastic entry. Nice work!!

The Fire Will Die by PolymathLD 2022-04-11T19:28:52Z

@polymathld A relaxing and moody entry -- super solid work, man! As others have said, the attention to detail in the graphics and audio, in addition to the story, really set the tone immediately. An excellent submission you should be proud of!

Always Dying by eggsscrambled 2022-04-10T02:45:18Z

@eggsscrambled Nice entry! Love the simplicity of the graphics, you did some nice things using only basic shapes. The 8-bit SFX were fun, and the concept was cool. Loved how there were different random level designs, too. Excellent tutorial as well. My main criticism is that the game is just too difficult. I think the enemies should just damage you, not kill you instantly. This would allow players to experience more of your content. Overall, super solid entry and you should be proud!

Outrun the Darkness by FlyingKaida 2022-04-10T03:11:08Z

Fantastic use of the theme -- using brightness and the intensity of the music to communicate with the player was a very cool idea. The pixel art was also extremely lovely! Well done, super solid entry!!

Mr. Second by Marvis 2022-04-10T03:24:30Z

Amazing graphics and super cool concept. The in-game tutorial was a really nice touch, too. Excellent submission!!

Battery Buisness by Smoofy 2022-04-09T22:12:07Z

Nice little simple game. The main thing I liked about it was that it was super easy to understand how to play right away. No explanation needed, just open it up and get going. I'm starting to realize how valuable that is, especially in a game jam.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Decaedia by arzi 2022-10-10T23:48:50Z

Excellent artwork in this one, the isometric view and sprite art is very nice. I also like the addition of quests in addition to the combat and exploration. The UI is simple and polished. Combat works well, too. What did you use to achieve the semi-transparent effect when the player goes behind an obstacle? Is that done with a shader? I need to learn more about shaders! Awesome entry!

CARPOVUM by Dis0rder 2022-10-10T20:19:38Z

@dis0rder Interesting entry! The concept is definitely different as well as the hand-drawn art assets. I've always wanted to try that! As others have said, it was slightly confusing at first as far as what to do, but once I figured out that the action happens automatically at the end of the 10-second timer, it made much more sense. I like that you had two difficulty modes too -- that was a nice touch. Nice work!

Time Loop Traffic by _for_science 2022-10-10T22:31:28Z

Great concept, design, graphics, and polish. The retrowave vibe is super cool too! If you were to expand on this further and add larger levels with destinations that were further away, a collectible that adds more time to the clock or increases movement speed might allow for that type of level design. Excellent entry!

Witch Contractor by alpacalypse 2022-10-10T22:41:37Z

This was an addictive game and I definitely played way longer than I thought I would! I love how you devoted plenty of time to creating lots of levels-- I think that's something that I don't do enough in my own LD entries. It's nice to have plenty of content to explore the game mechanics. Thanks for adding the 30 second option too! 10 seconds in each room is pretty tough. Really fun entry!

LD52 — Harvest

Aorta by jordantanner 2023-01-10T18:00:22Z

@william-gauthier Thanks man. Unfortunately the version I uploaded was broken so I'm seeing if I can fix it.

Space Harvester by Cobear25 2023-01-13T19:42:02Z

@cobear25 Awesome compo entry! I really liked the way the ship orbits the planets, and as others have mentioned, fluidly leaving one orbit and entering another feels really good. Nice use of the theme, too. I love combat in games so I left wanting there to be a little more of that, but I understand that's not really the focus of this type of game.

Combine Harv-racer by procrasteroid 2023-01-27T19:54:11Z

Really fun game! The wheat-harvesting animation when you drive through it is really satisfying. Did you use a hex-tilemap for the wheat field? Looks cool and works really well.

LD53 — Delivery

The Homunculus Vats by uvwar 2023-05-15T23:57:54Z

Interesting art piece! I like the aesthetic of the 3D models and the environment. The vibe really had me intrigued. I will say I wish there was more of a clear objective, though. Am I doing what I'm supposed to be doing? How do I know?

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-16T02:43:47Z

For me, the environment in this game was the real selling point. I did find it a little too easy, though. I think there is a lot of potential for more interactions with dangerous objects and ragdoll physics you could explore in the future! But again the overall aesthetic was really enjoyable!

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-16T21:13:37Z

@theartifacts Camera wasn't too jittery for me in the web build, but the mouse sensitivity is probably a little high. I did notice you added a slider in the options menu for that though which is a nice touch.

DroidDash by Hanaindiana 2023-05-19T16:01:33Z

Pretty solid amount of polish in this game! The voice acting in this is definitely a nice touch. The graphics look very reminiscent of those 90's Sierra classics I used to play. The puzzles seemed pretty straightforward for the most part, and the game definitely nails the theme. Nicely done!

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-02T19:30:05Z

@simmo Thanks so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the guns definitely need balancing -- a few are very overpowered :)

@fravinci I appreciate you playing it so long, thanks! Yeah the Unity URP has some decent 2D lighting features built in, and along with post-processing, it really helps with the visuals.

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-12T22:28:45Z

@cheesepencil Hey sorry about the issues, but thanks for the detailed bug report. I was able to resolve the loading issues by tweaking some build settings. Please feel free to give it another try and let me know how it goes!

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T22:21:35Z

@francis Thanks for the detailed review! I agree that the weapons could be more different -- I've been tweaking that a bit in the post-jam version and is something I'll continue to explore. I buffed the Kinetic and Energy damage types to help them compete with Cryo and Plasma. Also, in response to your leaderboard feedback, I implemented a new scoring system that awards points based on kills and also bonus points for finishing under a certain time. Still not perfect but better than just based on time or kills alone, as you pointed out. Please feel free to try your hand at the post-jam version again if you care to check out the new scoring system and a few more additions. Thanks for the feedback!

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T22:28:46Z

@pyspher9 Thanks for your feedback and the kind words. So glad you enjoyed the experience! I'm still debating on how to handle switching weapons. As it works now, as you pointed out, picking up a new weapon drops the old one. I did this so that people could easily switch back to what they had before if they didn't like the new gun, but maybe it can be a bit confusing. Still figuring out what to do there. As far as the payload getting lost in the chaotic visuals, maybe I could add an outline or something to the object that would help it stand out. Thanks again for the comment!

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T22:34:04Z

@ogelgames @garlic @chris1919 @weirdbitgames Thanks for the comments and feedback you guys, I really appreciate it! Glad y'all enjoyed. I do plan on adding more weapons, enemy types, and doing more balancing to the post-jam version!

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T22:35:28Z

@uvwar Thanks for playing and for the feedback. Yes, that was a bug that would occur when the player was about to respawn and the payload died, it would sometimes spawn two players. That bug has now been fixed in the post-jam version. Sorry that happened but thanks for letting me know about it! Cheers

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T22:43:37Z

@owlycode Thanks for the detailed feedback and for the screenshot of your score -- I loved seeing that. I'm glad you thought the pacing felt right because that was something I struggled with balancing at first (as well as the gun powers). I do agree that the powerup icons could be larger and/or simpler in order to make them more legible. Maybe I should just scale them up +50%? Also people noted that they would overlap and it would be hard to know what you're getting, especially when the gameplay gets more chaotic. Maybe I'll add colliders to them so they won't overlap. Thanks for the comment! Cheers

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T23:17:47Z

@thesmellofoxygen Thanks for trying out both versions, I appreciate it. That's a solid score on the leaderboard you got. The top score is my brother and I'm pretty sure he cheated by abusing the payload physics haha! I'm glad you found/liked pushing the payload too, I thought it might be a nice bonus for players who want to do a little more, possibly getting a time bonus at the end. Thanks for the feedback!

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T23:23:42Z

@noskro I'm so glad you enjoyed the game and thanks for the kind comment! I agree (and others have said) that the icons could use improvement in general as far as being easier to read and not overlapping. Working on a fix for that now. I appreciate the feedback

Mission Delete by jordantanner 2023-05-16T23:24:44Z

@ausstein Yep that gun was super broken haha! I should've fixed it in the jam version but I didn't. Please feel free to check out the post-jam version if you'd like to -- there are many improvements. Thanks for playing and for the screenshot!

Baby Dino Delivery by Cobear25 2023-05-17T04:45:04Z

This was really relaxing and enjoyable to play. Nice & simple polish for the dino animations and when dinos get "delivered." Really impressive compo entry, nice work!

Dinolivery - The adventurer delivery service guild needs you ! by WegPast 2023-05-16T22:03:43Z

This pixel art style reminds me of an old DOS game called Master of Magic. Super cool. The idea to combine equipment with the type of dungeons (gems) it's used in was very clever. I think the tutorial was a really nice touch as well. How did you display the prerecorded footage that you used in the tutorial in Unity? That'd be a neat trick to learn. Great job on this!

Perfect Delivery by JulienLussiez 2023-05-18T23:51:09Z

I'd say this experiment in finding an art style was definitely a success! Design of the game is simple yet fun. Elements of it are reminiscent of Tetris in some ways but adding the ability to choose your pieces made it slightly more relaxed. Excellent animations for the truck pulling away/backing in, and the UI was effective and pleasant as well. Super solid entry!!

Parcel Dunk by OwlyCode 2023-05-16T00:33:03Z

Super fun concept and the level designs were very clever. The package felt good to throw and recover (if you missed), and I especially liked the midair slowdown mechanic as soon as I figured out what it was. The quick turnover between levels make it a fun one to just pick up and play. I bet with a bunch of levels people would play this for hours.

One thing that could be improved in my opinion is the jumping mechanic -- I feel like adding some more air control to the character would make it feel a little smoother. I felt like after jumping vertically, there wasn't much control after that. But maybe I wasn't controlling it properly.

Really fun game, solid jam entry guys!

Mercenary Pigeon by Ty Victorson 2023-05-20T00:50:09Z

Fun game and cool graphics. I wish grabbing/delivering the messages was a little more forgiving -- I found it slightly difficult to get positioned just perfectly. As others have mentioned, I couldn't tell if my bullets were damaging enemies or not, so some kind of hit feedback would help there. Some quality-of-life things to add might be waypoint arrows or something as a UI element. Fun flying feature might be a dash or swoop. Solid entry, nicely done!

Ice Break Delivery by SneakyFox 2023-05-16T22:17:39Z

I think the graphics were my favorite part of this game. I found it difficult to feed the correct penguin. I think it may be slightly easier if the other penguins didn't immediately snatch the fish away. If there were a short "forgiveness" delay, even 0.25 seconds, it might make it a bit smoother experience. I also think it would be a nice touch if you didn't have to restart when you fell in the water, but maybe just a time penalty. A little forgiveness on the player goes a long way I think. This is a really solid foundation though and a very memorable entry. Nice work!

Frontier Express by twobitadder 2023-05-17T05:28:25Z

I thought the UI and dialogue elements were really polished and well done! Spaceship control was fun once I got the hang of it. I found myself needing a little more direction as far as where to go as it wasn't immediately clear to me. Combat was tricky too. Dig the whole space vibe for sure, well done man!

DE/LIVER by StormCat 2023-05-16T02:32:33Z

This game felt like playing an experimental art piece and I definitely love that about it. The slightly creepy vibe of the live action stuff intermixed with mini-games made for a generally unsettling mood that I enjoyed. Would normally love seeing more gameplay elements but I get the sense that isn't necessarily intended to be the focus for a game like this. Very unique and memorable entry!

Cart Delivery by zimny11 2023-05-16T02:07:08Z

This is a fun idea, and I like the simplicity of it. Immediately easy to understand. Giving the objects different physics behavior and different backstories for why they were in the cart added enough complexity to make it interesting.

Definitely a difficult game but I get the impression that was intended. Maybe give a little more time to players to recover objects that fall off before they are lost?

Really solid entry, nicely done!

Shattered Reflections by Perrin 2023-05-16T01:20:53Z

This was a really fun experience. The art and animations were great. The narrative was pretty compelling and it was fun to hover over the room with the mouse to make sure I hadn't missed any clues. Sound and music were on point as well. I also can appreciate the fact that you weren't afraid to drop the theme in order to make the game you wanted, instead of leaving something in the game that felt contrived. Really solid entry and great job! One other tiny thing if one has mentioned it, there is a typo in your game's title ("Refelections") on this page.

Tower Def-Ants by Glaas 2023-05-19T23:45:12Z

This brings back fond memories of playing SimAnt back in the day. I enjoyed the pattern the ants make while moving around the colony -- I found it very hypnotic. The purple trail that ants leave behind so players can see where the ants have been was a nice touch. Game design was fun overall. I think the ants could have been slightly larger, but I do understand that you are fitting the entire colony on-screen so there is that limitation to consider. As far as UI, the slideout control panel was pretty slick and I used it a lot. I like the idea of hiding some of the UI elements, but maybe the food and the colony health could be displayed onscreen more prominently? I found myself opening the panel to check those things pretty often. Super fun idea and a solid entry!!

The Box Baby by Revetoon 2023-05-16T03:05:41Z

As others have said, really really polished game here. It's clear that you guys had a vision early on of what you wanted to do and then executed it extremely well! Puzzles were clever and well designed. I dug the chill piano track and the visual aesthetic as well.

Deliverance by EpicGameFan 2023-05-16T00:46:37Z

Really enjoyed this one. Character was super fun to control, with all the classic and familiar platforming moves. Some of the room designs felt a little punishing, but as others have said, the penalty for death is only a few seconds, so its probably not a huge deal. Maybe having a few rooms before they get really difficult would help slow down the difficulty ramp, as well. It would allow players a little more time to become accustomed to the mechanics and what you're expected to do. Also room-to-room camera transition could maybe slow down a bit -- it was a bit disorienting at times. Really fun entry and the soundtrack was on point. Nice polish in the character animations as well.

Cradle Courier: Stork 17 by mushgunAX 2023-05-19T19:56:44Z

This was a really fun one, but way too hard IMO. I think letting the player take more than one hit and maybe giving more ammo would be a nice addition. I like the camera motion/lookahead, but I think it's maybe a bit extreme. Slightly disorienting at times. Had a lot of fun playing this one though. Nice entry!

The Death Delivery Service by SAD Studios 2023-05-16T01:46:10Z

This was a really fun one. The title music was perfect -- I wish you had kept it in during the gameplay! I enjoyed the overall aesthetic. It was a bit retro, and the saturated, bright colors made a fun juxtoposition with the concept of the grim reaper. Giving bonus points for the hilarious corn bit :)

SPACE.FARER by MartinK 2023-05-18T23:36:08Z

The graphics looked really solid on this, especially in the ship hangar. Mood and vibe were on point. I think it was clever to give the missions a chance of success based on the ship's loadout, given the time constraints of the jam. I had a little difficulty in the hangar knowing what components would help me in which missions. Also I didn't love the fact that you start in debt. I think it might be nice to start the player off at zero, but just a little nitpicky thing. I think psychologically, feeling like you're already behind at the start of the game might not give players a good feeling. Just a random thought. This is a graphically polished game and has a nice UI too! Excellent entry

The Night Witches by Kultuk 2023-05-17T04:20:59Z

Really enjoyed the nice, clean aesthetic of this game. The puzzles weren't too difficult but challenging enough to get you to play through each level several times. I retried the first level with two sonar towers quite a few times before I nailed it. I definitely admire the simplicity and straightforwardness of the game. The intro dialogue to each level helps instruct the player and supports the setting. I wish the plane could turn a little tighter, but then again that would change the way the puzzles are laid out. The ending was a nice touch, and I also really enjoyed the WWII reference -- I had not heard of Night Witches before. Very solid entry!!

Shiver Deliver by CO5MONAUT 2023-05-20T00:14:19Z

This was super moody, creepy, and immersive. Graphics look great. The UI was really minimal and clean and thought it worked well. I really enjoyed the small touches like the old shows on the TV that you can turn on and off. I did encounter a bug after the pizza delivery, I think, as the story really didn't progress after that. I saved my game and will give it another go, though. Do you intend to continue development on this? Impressive entry, nice work!

Porch Pirate Panic by Stevie257 2023-05-19T23:24:44Z

Really enjoyed playing this one. Fun PS1-era graphics and the soundtrack was on point. Are those original tunes? Nice UI polish too! The damage/health ratio for the characters felt right, as did the money reward/upgrade cost. Any plans to continue development on this? I definitely think it has potential. Super solid entry!!

Sunset Delivery by nobiy 2023-05-18T23:15:44Z

Love the retro vibe on this -- it slightly reminds me of a game called Neon Drive. The gameplay was straightforward but fun, especially once you gain some max speed and can jump. Jump mechanic feels good -- I liked the air control. Nice entry y'all!

Parcel Control by Vitaslayer 2023-05-17T05:10:23Z

I liked the relaxing atmosphere of this one. Time got a little tight a few times, but I made it through a few levels. I like how the two panels you have to compare aren't exactly next to each other and are opposite colors - it makes the comparison take a little longer. Audio was on point and definitely added to the quirky but relaxing vibe. Nice entry!

Portal Package Panic by PtitJao 2023-05-19T18:46:16Z

Love the graphics in this entry. Excellent pixel art style. The background, items, character, and UI all looked crispy and pleasant. It took me a few tries to figure out what to do, but maybe I'm just slow. I also had trouble with the left (green) portal. Maybe it's me, but I think it might be slightly bugged. Really solid entry, nice work!

LD54 — Limited Space

Mr.AdBar by eddynardo 2023-10-21T23:02:40Z

Just played this after the results came out, and wish I'd gotten a chance to rate it (not that you needed my help, evidently!) Super fun concept. Love the humor and a very innovative design as others have said. The platforming actually feels pretty darn good too. Amazing job @eddynardo !

Packing and Unpacking by nusan 2023-10-08T15:22:52Z

Lovely pico game! Some music or basic sfx would add a lot to the experience. Excellent pixel art!

Hope Falters by Jeremy Ryan 2023-10-08T14:00:34Z

@jeremy-ryan As usual, great entry. Always impressive work. I can tell you devoted more time to the game design/puzzle design this time around, but the graphics definitely still hold up and are appropriate for the vibe. Very thoughtfully designed word puzzles and the design of the game is very innovative which is always cool too see. The music was also lovely and matched the uplifting spirit of the game, so was a perfect fit. Excellent work sir!

Bubble Space by Thief 2023-10-08T13:27:15Z

Love shooter games like this. I think the difficulty could be reduced a little (at least at first), possibly by reducing the enemy movement speed and the bubble spawn rate, then ramp those up slowly. Fun concept!

I Hate This Recoil by ddolgov 2023-10-08T13:45:30Z

Simple puzzle game with a cool retro vibe and not too hard to quickly understand and play. Fun concept!

Super Drillboy by jordantanner 2023-10-14T13:28:36Z

@defrag Thanks for the detailed feedback and the kind words! Yes the graphics really never got out of the prototype phase unfortunately, but I was just happy to get the thing playable and semi-balanced. The blocks do have a chance to drop gems, but a more rewarding block type is a good idea. In the post-compo I added large gems that are worth more and also a rare health pickup that drops. As far as how the level is generated, it's a bunch of hand-made pieces that are randomly selected and strung together. In the post-compo, this is made slightly more complex by adding some logic that doesn't allow pieces to be immediately repeated, applies a custom tileset to each piece to change the aesthetic, and also adds random damage-block spawning as difficulty (number of checkpoints reached) increases. Thanks for playing!

Super Drillboy by jordantanner 2023-10-14T13:31:57Z

@furano Solid point about it getting less fun/interesting as the play area narrows. This was done to help sell the theme of Limited Space, but I agree that it's actually not that fun. In the post-compo version, I took your suggestion and made the play area widen back up again after a time before moving to the next level. Good idea, and thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Super Drillboy by jordantanner 2023-10-14T13:33:32Z

@ddolgov Those are respectable scores, thanks for posting them. I think your idea of removing the glide makes sense. It's just not necessary and I found myself not really even using it much. So in the post-compo version I removed the glide, slowed the normal fall speed a bit, and kept the drilling fall speed about the same. I feel like this makes more sense and keeps the game simple. I appreciate the feedback and the suggestion!

If I Fits, I Sits! by cheesepencil 2023-10-08T14:13:45Z

@cheesepencil Finally got some time to rate some games. :) Very fun and simple that as others have mentioned can be a little addicting. Difficulty ramps up nicely with the cat's speed increase. Also definitely a fairly innovative idea which I can appreciate! Nice work!

SUPA SEAL-MAN!! 小さな氷山島に魚の事故!! by MoonDweller 2023-10-08T15:05:54Z

Fun mood and vibe on this one. Graphics look really good too. The simplicity is nice but I found myself wanting maybe one more game mechanic to play around with. Oh and I like how the fish have feet. :)

Limited Spacebar by IngeniousPhoenix 2023-10-08T13:50:05Z

The concept of this game is really cool and would love to see it expanded upon. Good idea to give the player some warning before the lasers fire! I feel like this is a solid prototype that with more art assets, laser firing patterns, and maybe smoother player control would be really really fun. Nice work

Limited Space Cart by MajoMirez 2023-10-08T14:50:27Z

Love the bossa nova soundtrack. Interesting concept that could be expanded upon in the future! I think adding a difficulty increase would be fun -- maybe the speed of the cart increases, etc. Cool idea!

Project Minima by BlueDandelion 2023-10-08T14:35:40Z

Getting strong Celeste vibes on this one, which I love. Great character control, fun level design, great graphics, and the quick death/respawn makes for lots of fast and fearless attempts to complete the level. Super fun entry!

LD55 — Summoning

Keyboard Warrior by TolMera 2024-05-03T19:49:30Z

@tolmera Thanks for the fun shoutout, that took a lot of time to do for everyone. Really cool idea! Mine was: 'Jordantanner, tanner of virtual hides, Craft your armors, in which we'll abide! From pixel to polygon, your designs hold tight, Summon jordantanner, armor us right!' P.S. Was this whole game written in vanilla JavaScript??

Neon Citadel: Guardians of the Stars by Snowdrama 2024-04-19T04:49:35Z

Definitely a great test of memory! I think if the runes very VERY different colors it would make them easier to quickly recognize and remember. I really dig the concept though -- solid use of the theme. The behavior of the friendly units confused me a bit at first since I expected them to pursue the enemy, but maybe I just wasn't within the expected range most of the time. Overall a super solid entry nice work!

Glyphwalker by Papaver 2024-04-19T23:22:25Z

This game is a great example of a simple concept that's easy to pick up and understand quickly, which is perfect for game jams. It only took a couple tries to figure out the summoning mechanic and I was off and running. I really enjoyed your piano and flute playing -- are you classically trained? I'm guessing you are from the mood of the music. Puzzles were clever too, not too easy not too hard. Really nice entry, good work!!

Meteor Portal Siege by GettingRekt 2024-04-19T18:48:35Z

I really like the concept of this one. Took some practice to get used to the orientation of the portals -- I think a way to make it more visually clear which way they need to be oriented may be helpful to new players. The music was fitting and the sfx were pretty funny. Graphics are basic but work well for the concept. As others have said, the difficulty curve is fairly steep, so maybe that could be slowed down a bit too. Overall nice job!

Flockin' Demons by Bewelge 2024-04-19T18:09:27Z

Diggin the vibes on this one. The camera view and small character graphics remind me bit of Gauntlet, which I love. I know it was a rush to make this, but the difficulty ramps up reaaaally quickly and I think it would make for a smoother user experience to try to slow that down a bit. Overall fun concept -- simple and effective!

Aliens vs. Undead by Firebelley 2024-04-19T19:21:23Z

Really enjoyed this one. Really nice polish in the UI and the intro tutorials. Squishy necromancer animation is pleasant and the core game mechanic of "shooting" the skeletons at the enemy was clever, simple, and fun. Music was not bad, maybe a little repetitive. Sound design worked. Overall great entry, a really fun one!

Arcane Outlaw by jordantanner 2024-04-20T04:31:45Z

@ryusui Glad you liked it! Yeah I totally ran out of time before I could make a death animation -- it slipped my mind and then never got back to it before time ran out! It does look weird just disappearing, I agree. And yes, the rounds have been a bit buggy, I was able to fix them a little bit but sometimes they still overlap. I'm currently working on a post jam version with better rounds, better hydra functionality, and a leaderboard. Thanks for playing and for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Arcane Outlaw by jordantanner 2024-04-20T13:20:59Z

@gettingrekt Thanks so much for the lovely feedback! Can't believe you made it to round 30 -- that's incredible! Looking at my back end analytics, it appears you had 70% accuracy too, which is really great.

And yes, the Round Controller is still a bit buggy. I'm currently working on a post jam version that fixes those issues, improves the UI, improves Hydras, and adds a leaderboard. Thanks again for playing, I'm really glad you liked it. :)

Arcane Outlaw by jordantanner 2024-04-23T01:53:04Z

@coleslaughter It was a blast hanging out and watching the stream! Thanks so much for playing my entry and for the link/timestamp to the playthrough. And regarding that bug, a Post Jam version is up now and has all kinds of improvements and fixes. Please give it a playthrough and put your name on the leaderboard if you'd like to "sign the guestbook," as I like to think of it. Thanks again fellas, I'll be back to hang on stream sometime for sure!

DeathBird by Sodaro 2024-04-19T17:56:03Z

I love games like this and I think this is a solid start. Difficulty ramps up quickly and the beam weapon is fun to spin around and clear the screen with. I think a healthbar for the player would be super helpful (I didn't notice one at least). Also, given more time, perhaps implementing some powerups or upgrades would be really cool too. Nice job!

Golem Guardians by Substain 2024-04-19T15:59:47Z

Very cool game! Great menu/framework as some others have said. Atmosphere and graphics were impressive. I like the summoner character model and animations, as well as the golems! I think the combat could definitely use some improvements like camera shake, character hitflash, and sound effects to add impact and communicate to the player what's happening and who's taking damage, but I know it's a jam game and it's hard to squeeze all those features in. So maybe combat feel and difficulty balancing could use some polishing. But overall very solid entry, nice work guys!

SummonInn by Daxic 2024-04-19T04:23:56Z

This is a fantastic entry. The dialogue, UI, set design, artwork, dice customization, and rules of the game itself are all really good. Audio and music are great too! I spent way longer than I meant to playing this. Excellent entry and great work you guys! I'll be bookmarking this one to play again.

Demon Chalk by AmberFall92 2024-04-19T04:38:09Z

This is a super impressive entry! The simple but clever 'draw the circle' mechanic hooks you in right away and is a smart take on the theme. The music was FIRE too. Excellent work -- I really enjoyed this one!

Creature Conjurers by Tao Yuanyue 2024-04-19T05:21:44Z

Cute game, it's fun for a bit to explore the different combinations. Sexy Chicken Roll made me lol a little too hard. The art is really great, and the descriptions and flavor text for all the items is fun to go through. Solid sound design as well!

I think if the game had more clearly defined objectives it would be a more engaging experience for the player (unless I missed something). Nice things to add might be some kind of consequences based on what you summoned, add some pressure like from having limited supply of materials or a time limit, or some other kind of limitations or rules. Overall, excellent aesthetic and mood in this entry! Well done!

Bony Barricade by Philocode 2024-04-19T18:41:41Z

Cool implementation of a tower defense! Once I figured out the basics, it worked pretty well. If you get behind at ALL, it seems almost impossible to catch up. Maybe that's part of the challenge, or maybe it could use more difficulty balancing. LOVE the voxel graphics -- very nice work!

MEOWTERSPACE by Tetracold 2024-04-19T06:53:06Z

This is an amazing entry! The hand-drawn art style, animations, and overall visual aesthetic is definitely my favorite thing about it, so props to @tetracold on that work. Bold, fun, quirky, energetic, colorful, vibrant. The music was excellent as well.

Some of the gameplay was hard to understand/execute, and at times the screen was so visually noisy it was hard to know what was going on. But overall this is a lovely entry and had a fun time playing it -- great work y'all!

Necrotyper by soffu 2024-04-20T00:05:48Z

I thought I was good at typing. I really thought so. They always told me I was. Even in keyboarding class, I did well. But now... I just.... I just don't know anymore.

This is a super fun concept and is extremely well executed. Art and 2.5D perspective are super cool, and the game play is playfully stressful and fun. I'm glad I noticed the above comment about stacking enchantments bc that is definitely interesting. Overall amazing entry and fantastic work you guys!

Flickering Hope by Domenixius 2024-04-19T05:12:48Z

As some others have said, I found it hard to understand or know what to do, but maybe that's supposed to be part of the challenge. Absolutely nailed the dark moody vibe though!

NECRO RUSH by helviett 2024-04-19T04:09:25Z

Excellent game! Simple concept to pick up and play, which is great for a game jam. Art and animations were pleasant, especially the zombies -- great work on those animations. The sound design in general was very gentle and pleasing to the ears. The music was nice but in my opinion was maybe a bit mellow for the gameplay, but was very good nonetheless. Very smooth character control which felt nice. Overall great entry guys!

Chessummon by Def-Mane 2024-04-19T18:02:56Z

Very fun game. Nice humor element, the graphics are on point. The UI and rules were intuitive enough to understand once I got going, which was appreciated. Having each piece have its own cooldown and having it be more real-time rather than turn-based was a nice design choice. Some really fun ideas in here! Nice work

Ascension by Pigeonescu 2024-04-19T19:01:57Z

Once I figured out the grapple mechanic, I was hooked. LOL :) Seriously though... this was a fun game. I dig the art style, and the grappling hook mechanic is pretty clever and fun. Using it felt a bit clunky at times, as did the character controls, but I think smoothing out the motion with how those work would make this feel really great. Excellent entry, well done!

Fedora Fury by Vantalogic 2024-04-19T06:38:34Z

Quirky, weird, and funny. Diggin the rock soundtrack! I tend to be drawn to more polished gameplay mechanics, but I know that's not what this game was going for. I was wearing headphones and the first voiceover scared the living sh%#$ outta me haha! Super fun entry, nice work!

Succubi Slayer by Lonthy 2024-04-19T23:56:33Z

Cool idea! Definitely getting strong Vampire Survivors vibes from this one. It's a shame you guys weren't able to finish, but congrats on your first LD! Scoping small is really really hard to do and takes practice. I still suck at it myself. One word of advice about the sound effects -- have a sound effect "cooldown" of about 0.05s can help prevent multiple instances of the exact same sound stacking on top of each other, leading to loud volume jumps. That way when you hit a large group of enemies simultaneously, it doesn't stack the same hit sound 10 times. Overall a nice solid start to a game, I hope you continue it! Best of luck and good job

Magnet Head by Brooklyn Humphrey 2024-04-19T19:25:28Z

I really enjoyed the core gameplay mechanic on this one. Was super satisfying to grab a magnet and chuck it at the enemy. I will say, the difficulty is pretty high. It would be nice if we could take more than one hit before dying. Maybe give the player some health and a health bar? And maybe spacebar to dash/dodge roll? Those might be nice touches to add if you continue development. Overall a nice core concept that could use more polishing imo. Really nice entry y'all! Nice work

Swordmancer by RACTS Studio 2024-04-19T03:48:41Z

Interesting concept using different combinations of ingredients in the portal to see what you will get. It was a little confusing at first knowing what to do. The tutorial text helps, but it's really big and really spread out, so maybe making it smaller and more condensed would make it easier to read all of it. This is a good idea to expand upon! Nice job

Spellbound Battlegrounds by Fredrik Noren 2024-04-19T05:38:10Z

Definitely ambitious and impressive from a technical aspect! Both the AI tools/engine and the multiplayer implementation are an accomplishment. As others have said, it was pretty laggy and there not as much going on gameplay-wise as I would have liked, but absolutely a solid start here. Nice entry!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

B&B: Bugs 'n' Breakfast by rynti 2024-10-09T04:47:41Z

Simple and effective! Love this particular style of pixel art.

Sammich by ColeSlaughter 2024-10-08T20:30:53Z

Production quality and polish are superb, fellas. This is a great example of taking a super simple concept as far as game mechanics and presenting it in an incredibly stylized, fun, and polished way. Love the vibe and absolutely nailed the execution. And that intro tho! :nail_care: :ok_hand:

Deflummoxer by unless games 2024-10-08T20:43:46Z

Great example of a simple memory mechanic (almost like the classic ball and 3 cups magic trick), presented in a totally new and interesting way. Love it! As others have said, feels very complete and polished, and the audio and art style go very well together and give a really unique vibe. Fantastic entry guys!

About Crayons and my garden by velvetlobster 2024-10-08T19:09:27Z

The collage-esque visual aesthetic is really nice. The mixed materials and textures make for an interesting visual. I also really enjoy the blurry parallax foreground elements near the beginning of the scene. The chiptune music is very heartfelt, as is the writing in the dialogue. Seems to be aiming to create an emotional reaction in people rather than focusing on gameplay mechanics, which is something I wouldn't have thought to attempt. Really unique entry!

Blood Crux by Dmitry Kaidash 2024-10-08T20:11:35Z

The character controller and animations are superb. Game feel is definitely on point. Clearly a lot of time went into the character animations and controls and it really really shows. It would be really cool to see more depth added to the combat system later on. Would definitely play again. Music and sound really add a lot as well. Only complaint is that sometimes it's hard to see which zombies are poisonous with the chaos going on. Super fun entry and again, amazing graphics and animations, well done!

Quantum 47x by jordantanner 2024-10-07T15:23:05Z

@xlores-liang Press enter! Sorry for any confusion :)

@umnatz yes always thought superhot's time mechanic was super fun. Thanks man glad you enjoyed

Quantum 47x by jordantanner 2024-10-08T05:51:52Z

@xlores-liang Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed. Maybe I made the name entry UX too minimal!

@unless-games Happy to report that I got this beam reflection issue fixed! As far as repositioning, you're dying with every hit, so it made sense to me to respawn you at the spawn point. Regarding restarting from the menu, that button restarts the entire game, not the current level. Sorry for any confusion. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the detailed feedback!

@phobos001 The aiming/beam reflection bug has now been fixed. Thanks for taking a look at the code and trying to help. The solution was to offset the point of where the reflected beam ends/next one begins by a tiny amount. Glad you enjoyed!

Quantum 47x by jordantanner 2024-10-08T13:03:05Z

@unless-games Ohh I didn't realize that. Thanks very much for the detailed feedback. Sorry that was happening! I'll do some testing and try to fix that asap. I appreciate the info.

Quantum 47x by jordantanner 2024-10-10T14:10:24Z

@voidraizer Glad you enjoyed, thank you!

@lantto Ah I didn't think about 1-button mouses. Maybe holding Shift instead of RMB would be a nice alternative?

@manabreak Sorry for any confusion -- I guess the time slowdown could look like lag! Maybe I should add some audio/visual cue that the slowdown is happening, so that it's more obvious it's intentional? Maybe I'll tweak some of the post-processing effects just slightly during the slowdown.

@sdcorpse You're the only one to mention the music, so thanks! It was rushed, so it's not a compelling concept musically, but hopefully the vibe is there.

@garys My data shows you played for almost 20 minutes! Thanks man I really appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed. Yes I'm currently working on a bunch of new levels today for the post-compo version. Hopefully will have a TON of new levels for people to play over the weekend, so please check back! :)

Quantum 47x by jordantanner 2024-10-16T02:57:42Z

@coleslaughter Thanks for playing and streaming, Jared, and for the kind words! Really glad you enjoyed it

Apparatus by evindor 2024-10-09T04:34:19Z

Fantastic visuals! @erasemenot - Pretty impressive that you're a full time engineer and this was your first time entering a jam as an artist! Love the aesthetic. This would've worked great for "Strange Machines" too! @evindor Excellent tunes and sound design. This is a cleverly designed game that takes a bit of patience to learn. I don't know if most jammers will dive deep enough to fully grasp every nuance of the mechanics, but those that do will surely be rewarded. Excellent and unique entry!

runner by haztro 2024-10-10T14:03:16Z

Fun game. Gathering is smooth and relaxing, and the soft sfx remind me a little bit of Stardew Valley. The tiny pixel art characters remind me a little bit of a great DOS game I used to know back in the day, Masters of Magic (1994). As some others have said, the time spent gathering seemed to outweigh the time spent fighting, so some balancing on the pricing for units might be a quick solution there. This was a lot to make in a day! Would love to see more levels/content from this. I feel like its charming visuals and relaxing/somewhat casual nature is the draw for me. Nice work!

Parabowls by amarokczukay 2024-10-09T03:15:59Z

Too many good things to say about this one! Really lovely game design concept that was executed with polish and style. You clearly took time and care to add "juice" to almost every element -- the added motion gives a lot of life to the game. Great take on the theme too -- the Parabowls almost remind me of these old 80's toys, Madballs. Music and sound design added a lot of charm to the experience, too. Overall fantastic entry, very well done! Would play again :)

Code Bunny by Stevie257 2024-10-10T13:41:12Z

As others have said, combat feels really juicy and smooth for jam game!! Really nice. The moves feel good and the upgrades make sense. Audio adds nice vibe, and you sold the tiny creatures theme pretty well with the zoom-in on the CPU as a battle arena. A couple suggestions:

- A Faster attack animation. It just felt a bit slow to me for a sword slash. - A little more feedback when you take damage might be nice

Question about the music. Did you have two versions of the track playing, and you would crossfade between a more subtle one during the upgrades and a more intense one during the fight? That's what it seemed like to me at least! Overall very fun entry guys, nice work

Micro Mayhem by Derly 2024-10-10T13:54:18Z

Really FUN game, creative concept, and the platforming feels really good. Love the wall jump! The concept to stack up lil guys and blast em as a mobility mechanic was unexpected and pretty fun. What plugin did you use for the 2D lighting/shadows? It reminds me of an older (deprecated) one I used to use called Light2D. To expand on this, I think with your level design it might be cool to incorporate using the tiny creature explosions to bounce you around earlier in the level. Teach the player to use them in a really easy setting, then challenge them with more complex usage scenarios later on. Overall really fun entry, great job!

LD57 — Depths

BUMMÖCK by alec 2025-04-10T01:04:00Z

Great idea and love the graphics, music, and overall vibe. The nod to NES classics like Marble Madness and Skate or Die is super cool. I do wish the player could turn a bit faster and was more responsive in general. I think with a little more control polish, this one could be even more fun. Congrats on the great entry!

@majomirez You can use mouse too! Glad you liked it though. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

@platonenko Switching layers already has a rhythmic feel to it so that could be a cool concept! Thanks for playing and for posting your score -- that's solid!

@finlal @thristhart Thank you so much for the feedback!

@tsaot Thanks for the detailed feedback I really appreciate it! Would love to expand on this with more features and modes, and yes the little pellets in Pacman were definitely an inspiration!

Also: JTS is ME!! Haha. Great score man, looks like I have some work to do!! Thanks for playing so long I really appreciate it. :)

@t-c Thanks for the kind words TC and for the detailed feedback about the bugs. There is definitely a reset issue happening, but I wasn't aware of the '49' points bug. Thanks so much for pointing that out! Glad you enjoyed, and once again I really appreciate the kind words!

@shp Thank you! Yes the mouse move with a little smoothed camera movement can feel really good. Simple and effective! Glad you enjoyed, thanks for the feedback!!

@designernap I really appreciate you checking out my other work, that means alot, and thanks for the kind words. I do strive for minimalism when I can, it's fun to try to do more with less!

@ammonit Thanks for giving it a few tries to give it a fair chance! I wanted to do something a little weird. Glad you dug the SFX but definitely agree some chill beats would add to the vibe here. I appreciate the feedback very much!!

@holyblackcat Thank you, the parallax layering was really the core idea, glad you dug it!

@she-wrote I really was striving for a minimal style so I appreciate you noticing that. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the layers. Thanks for the kind words!

@deadroach Gameplay! A timer!! What more could you want right?? haha. I really appreciate you guys playing this on stream on posting the link -- It absolutely made my Ludum Dare. Thank you!!

Was thrilled to watch you guys play this, hear you both talk about and figure out the rules, and then gradually got really good at the game to where you topped the leaderboard. I'm glad the game is reasonably easy to pick up but still fun, that was tricky.

Sorry for the confusion about the leaderboards, there are two versions of the game and thus two leaderboards. You were playing the Post-Compo version and not many people had played that one yet, hence the low number of scores on there.

Also thank you for the very generous ratings man, and the super kind words. Very much appreciated!!!

The Dig by ditam 2025-04-15T23:05:08Z

Very simple from a gameplay standpoint, but the dialogue and music helped create the mood and indicate that the game was taking us somewhere more sinister. Is where you choose to dig significant at all, or are the results pretty much random regardless of where you pick? Cool idea, cool vibe. :)

Into The Deep by clymm 2025-04-10T01:29:42Z

Congrats on your first jam, man! Absolutely love the art style and the concept. The guitar feature was a nice touch too -- it's cool to see someone take time to implement little side things like that. The drill was fun to operate, and the player was easy to maneuver. I did feel like it was hard to keep up the battery, oxygen, health. I think maybe making it more obvious when the player receives resources could be good, and make them more plentiful (as others have said). It's definitely hard to find time to balance gameplay during a jam though, and the more variables there are, the harder to balance. But overall great entry, and again congrats on your first jam dude!! Welcome to the community!!

GUTS! by Jack12342 2025-04-09T02:01:58Z

Amazing vibe and a really creative concept! Never would've thought the journey of a california roll could be entertaining! Great graphics and mood, but camera and character controls leave something to be desired. Overall very unique and daring entry, excellent work!

Abimes by Kessel Nebula 2025-04-09T01:51:16Z

Absolutely gorgeous! Amazing polish and mood!!

Depth Diver by EddieYang 2025-04-10T01:12:02Z

Very cool concept. I love the mood and vibe. The idea for the controls is unique, but I found it difficult. I honestly think having the player hold LMB and point to where they want to swim would be easier to control and more fun. But this is a great start to a game, and congrats to you all on completing your first game jam. I love that!! Welcome to the community!!

Depth Diver by EddieYang 2025-04-10T02:07:27Z

@eddieyang I didn't mean it sound like you didn't do well! The game is a very enjoyable experience! Just trying to provide helpful feedback thats all! :)

LD59 — Signal

Ziggy Zapper and the Robot Factory by rogual 2026-04-25T22:25:47Z

@rogual Amazing entry! Perfect retro vibes mixed with really thoughtfully-designed puzzle layouts. This is something I've struggled with in the past -- creating the art, audio, and gameplay mechanics AND dedicating proper time to creating the level design and content to a quality level. It's hard to juggle in such a short amount of time, and you did it exceedingly well here. Hats off sir!

Making Megahertz by killthealias 2026-05-08T03:52:37Z

I really enjoyed this one-- super minimimalist and simple, easy to figure out in just a few seconds, and fun to play through. Nice calm game/puzzle design that lets the player decide when to end the round and 'call it' was clever. Definitely got a kick out of the old school modem sounds in the background! Nice touch. The gameplay was simple in a very elegant way. For juiciness, maybe some additional polish and animations would help spruce up the miminimalistc environment and gameplay while still keeping your original vibe. Also, I couldn't find a way to exit, I had to Ctrl+Alt+Del my way out. So maybe a menu/esc to exit. Great job, I hope you get more ratings and more people get to play this.

Sneaky Signals by almost 2026-05-07T03:53:19Z

Great atmosphere, 3d models and animations, fun vibes. Meow sfx were puurrrrfect (sorry). Light jass music set the relaxed tone very well. Card game was simple although I had trouble determining how to use the signal system properly. Definitely had a blast gesturing like crazy though. Perhaps a more clear way of communicating to the player when a signal was effective, a cue when one is needed, etc could help. Awesome entry, congrats!

Last Resort by gil4 2026-04-26T16:19:39Z

Really fun entry! As others have said, the hand-drawn visual style certainly stands out. I really dig the music track, and the sound effect design is good too. Gameplay-wise, I think separating the two bots, one for damage, one for health collection, was a clever design. Being able to merge them but penalized by slower movement also very good!

A couple small critiques: - I found myself accidentally clicking a bot and it would become selected, but I preferred to use the mousewheel to select. Perhaps remove the 'click to select' aspect and have player only use mousewheel? Would prevent accidental bot selection in the heat of the moment. - Is there not way to exit the application built in? I had to ctrl+alt+delete and kill the task to exit the program. Either add an easy 'Quit' feature, and if one does exist, perhaps make it more obvious.

Overall lovely aesthetic and feel, and the 'survivors'-esque gameplay is spot on. Well done, congrats!!

Aurora 4: Prelude by ghost-in-the-toast 2026-05-04T03:47:03Z

Absolutely loved this one -- ive spent a lot of time playing shmups over the years so def got a kick out of this one. Sprites looked awesome, gameplay was fun as well, guns were great, and the audio was spectacular. Tiny nitpicky thing -- the stars on the sidebars I found distracting. I think black might be better! Enjoyed the bombastic energy and the retro vibes which you both totally nailed in your own way. Congrats!!

A Short Flight by Rongo Matane 2026-04-25T23:16:32Z

As others have said, vibes are on point on this one. Lovely retro graphics-- did you use a pixelated shader to achieve this effect? Very cool. The decision to make the airborne camera have a different FOV and also play different music was a great design choice. Character art was great, funny dialogue. The idea to not animate the characters but instead use a squash/stretch on the sprite was clever way to save time but still add life. I didn't really get a strong sense of the use of the theme "Signal" in this project, but this entry is definitely an accomplishment you should all be proud of. Congrats!!

Cignal Space Operations by bergotronic 2026-05-09T01:08:59Z

The old retro device was super fun to play around with -- enjoyed the clunky device sound effects, and the bg track is killer! Love the major/minor modulation going on there. Cool idea but I think the gameplay could be slightly more intuitive -- maybe less 'modes'? Maybe they could be consoliated/streamlined somehow. Overall very cool entry!! Device design and soundtrack were my 2 top fave things.

The Hunt for Red April by XeduR 2026-04-26T16:01:27Z

Saw a screenshot of this on the blog and definitely had to try it! Love the minimal, arcade-y aesthetic which you really nailed. The sonar and depth charges vfx and sounds are great too. Just enough to sell the idea. Also, the title is a great reference to the classic Sean Connery film -- love it.

Game design is very solid in my opinion! However as others have noted, the game is quite difficult. Here are some possible improvements one could make to make it a bit more smooth for the player and give them a fighting chance: - Perhaps make the depth charges from enemy ships less accurate, at least at first. Maybe their accuracy increases slowly over number of sonar pings the player produces? - Could increase the armor / health of the player sub a bit, to allow them to take several hits before mission failed. - Similarly, could allow bumping off of terrain and taking damage rather than instant death, similar to above.

Overall, the retro vibe is really great and you have a solid design here. In my opinion, with a little bit more "grace" toward the player, the user experience could be taken to the next level. Congrats on a great entry!

New London 3D Turbo 2000 by Revetoon 2026-04-26T15:41:08Z

LOVE the retro vibes and aesthetic, the fun jump + trick mechanics, and the hilarious dropping of hordes of cop cars from the sky was a clever (and fun) way to have the police intervene without having to code that logic. Also really admire the use of actual store facades in London for the set dressing -- great idea!

For me, I found the road layouts hard to navigate, maybe this was intentional, but with so many dead ends it was hard to for my to keep speed above 40 KPH for example. Perhaps the streets could be more interconnected. Communication with the player regarding the rules was decent, but perhaps a persistent UI label on one side of the screen reminding the player of what rules they are currently subject to might help. Also, perhaps an overhead map view (similar to the screenshot you posted above) in-game could be very useful. The rearview mirror is clever and sells the car vibe, but perhaps replacing that rear cam view with the top-down map view in one corner of the screen would provide more utility.

Super fun and creative entry. With some slight map tweaks and extra communication with the player, could be even better in my opinion. Thanks and huge congrats on a great entry!!

Cableman [a rhythm game] by rucksack 2026-05-04T03:33:21Z

Yes we definitely need a Cableman album now, or at least a single on Spotfiy!! Game was great, very polished and fun. Beatmatch was a nice gameplay touch and is a differentiator in the jam for sure! Excellent entry, really enjoyed -- congrats!

RESCUE by Andrey Angaev 2026-04-26T16:44:48Z

As others have said, the visual aesthetic and vibe are top notch here! Really love the vibe. Music and audio are also very nice. Gameplay mechanics-wise, the jump feels very good, and I enjoy the subtle FOV cam shift when sprinting.

As far as level design and difficulty, I'll echo what some others have said in that the early platforming is very punishing. Easing the player in and introducing the mechanics in a "starter" way may make for a smoother user onboarding experience in the future. Regarding objectives and "what to do", perhaps a UI label on one side of the screen that indicates current objectives would be a quick and easy way to help guide players on where to go and what the game is currently asking of them at any given time-- sometimes that wasn't as clear as it could be.

Overall a lovely feast for the eyes and ears. In my opinion, with a little more 'soft introduction' for the player the game mechanics and content as well as enhanced communication with the player in various ways, this game could really be taken to the next level. Congrats to all team members who worked on this-- amazing job!!

Signal Survival by mrks 2026-05-09T00:58:50Z

Game was a bit difficult and didn't know quite what to do at first. Biggest thing for me was knowing which bird was mine at first. Also making it obvious that the dark bird is the enemy. Cool idea and solid use of the theme, music was cute. I think with a little more player communication it could be taken to the next level!

Melting Sun by JustCore 2026-05-03T03:57:47Z

Amazing vibe! Enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the punch card mechanic -- was fun to do a few of them at once. Atmosphere was giving abandoned bunker vibes and I thoroughly enjoyed. Well done and congrats!

Fading Echo 余音轨迹 by JerryWest 2026-04-26T17:05:20Z

Love the Castlevania-inspired aesthetic and gameplay. Contrary to what some others have said, I actually liked the 'slipperiness' of the player-- it adds to the fluid feel of the gameplay. The abilities to 'see' blocks and also to temporarily enable them was a really clever concept that I had fun playing around with.

I do wish we could customize the controls a bit-- us westerners are used to spacebar being jump, and I kept finding myself pressing it (which evidently puts the game in slow motion?). Also I did notice a bug where sometimes upon entering a room you're not able to shoot the directional ray downwards, even though you're required to do so to progress.

Overall a very fun entry with some interesting mechanics. Love the retro vibe and great use of the theme too. Congrats!!

Warden of the Depths by Alex de la Cour 2026-05-04T03:59:11Z

Hey Alex! As a massive fan of classic platformers, this one hits close to home. Great feeling character and the combat felt simple enough to get right away but still be challenging. Use of the signal to telgraph the enemy attack was a good use of theme and made for fun gameplay. Really loved the character sprites and animations as well. It was giving Celeste vibes as I would plummet into fire on a jump repeatedly in rapdid succession. Only nitpick might be that combat timing and overall dificulty could be polished a bit more. Overall, a fantastic and super fun entry, congrats man!

Signal Loop by SMOLBIGBY 2026-05-04T04:15:08Z

Clever game design and use of the theme! Planning moves ahead, then plotting them out was a simple but fun hook. As some others have said, watching the actual robot make its moves every time is a bit slow. Speeding it up a lot would be fun I think -- you have a slow beat while you plan and make the moves, then you click "Start" (or could even give player a controller/keyboard trigger for this, might feel good) -- a super fast chain reaction gets set off as the robot whirrrs through the level at lightning speed, almost like unlocking a big lock. Anyway I'm rambling -- great game, congrats!

Sigma by peped 2026-05-04T03:23:28Z

You guys really captured a moment with this game! You created an immersive and unique atmosphere that was calming and matches the relaxed nature of the gameplay perfectly. The audio and music were superb also -- hats off to the composer on the team. Game design was clever use of the theme and a nice relaxed difficulty that worked great for a jam game I thought. A quick, polished, complete experience. Very very nice, congrats!!~

Last Frequency by Catanus 2026-04-25T22:59:45Z

Excellent use of the theme! The vibe, mood, aesthetic were minimal and enjoyable. Audio design subtle and non-intrusive while still playing in to the theme. Gameplay was intuitive immediately -- an important detail for a jam entry. The "mini-games" kept things from being too monotonous, though I couldn't tell if there was a pattern to them -- they felt a bit random. But you did a great job of communicating to the player what they were intended to do without any instruction in all three gameplay modes, so again, excellent job. Great entry, congrats!!

Delayon by Stormdrill 2026-05-03T04:33:29Z

Nailed the aesthetic on this one! Gameplay was fun-- could have used some more communication with the player at times maybe, something to help sell/instruct the core mechanics more. Great job, love the mood on this one!

Semaphoria by illiteratelexicon 2026-05-04T04:26:19Z

Innovative and original idea! Great use of theme. Maybe more communication with the player in various ways, more feedback, could be helpful while the signals change -- audio 'signals' could help with this? Very cool!

Windward by oasiss 2026-05-09T01:28:35Z

The vibe and visual look on this one I really love. The hand-drawn looks charming, and i really dig the dark lighting and super cool flame particles. The camera motion made me fairly dizzy at times, and I found myself wanting to use to mouse to look around, like FPS controls. I think smoothing out controls + camera motion would make this an even more enjoyable experience than it already is. Cool entry!!
