there is a lot of good content (audio/art) ! main character could need a longer range on his attacks though, GG

boxedmeatrevolution 2019-05-01 00:39

I enjoyed this game a lot. The main character felt good to control, and I liked the special abilities. I felt like the enemies were not very fun to fight though. I found myself often running in circles to group enemies into an area and then spamming specials to clear them out. If the fight was in a smaller arena, and if the enemies were less numerous but each individual enemy was more powerful, I think this game could be really good.

mrstari 2019-05-01 01:24

i love it  pixel art aswell.

jayometric 2019-05-01 04:08

Well put together! The bodies of the little red enemies seems to hurt you. If that's what was intended, great! Message received. I thought the ghost healing was an attack at first and stayed away. Great work!

veryeviltomato 2019-05-01 04:27

Interesting game but I'll say that the menu art and ingame art look really inconsistent, the enemy variety and gameplay was well introduced but artwork as extremely inconsistente, as powerups had this vectorish art and enemies/player/scenario is pixel art.

Maybe I'm being a bit rough but following your credits a CONSIDERABLE amount of people worked on this little game.

justuspan 2019-05-01 04:34

Absorbed by the pixel art. Nice game.

sakkia 2019-05-01 04:59

too many long-range attack enemies, so it feels really bad to move my fingers from WASD to 123 when my screen is full of bullets, maybe press space, shift or QE for pacts will be better. And I agree with the art inconsistency problem, it looks like a morden fashion guy fights inside a middle ages castle using magic? The start menu also looks like a totally different game

jyrkface 2019-05-01 05:00

Great game! the mechanics of the three hit combo were satisfying. Had a little difficulty using the spells int he heat of battle sometimes, but overall very impressive, natural-feeling combat. Especially for a jam game!

kashif 2019-05-01 05:00

Nice. Very moody game.

unplugred 2019-05-01 05:21

The balancing was absolutely on point, it seems like it was well tested. Wish there was more to the game content-wise though.

svntax 2019-05-01 05:24

Pretty nice combat system! The special attacks are cool too. The projectiles are a bit too small, so it's hard to notice them and dodge.

mamoniem 2019-05-01 06:49

The game seem nice...HUGE credits screen, but hard to play, I don't know if I've played the jam version or the updated 1.1, but i had hard time in correctly do the action at the desired direction. I could be looking left, but when dash, the girl dash right, and could be looking right and when i use the weapon it hit at the other direction. Which made me die fast, and die a lot.

Music and mood were nice btw!

fahim-faysal 2019-05-01 08:00

Very polished. I like the art quite a lot. Combat is very satisfying . I didn't find the spells too useful though. I think the spells should either execute immediately after pressing the buttons or show the AOE range.

eduardo-yukio 2019-05-01 09:03

@jayometric Thank you for the feedback! The damage after death was not intended, we fixed it for the next version. We added the info about the ghost not damaging you on the tutorial, thanks for telling us how you felt playing our game!

@svntax You were right, we increased the size of the skeleton projectiles, thank you for the input!

@mamoniem Hmm, that's strange, are you playing on OSX? We couldn't test that platform because none of us have a Mac xP.

carpin 2019-05-01 13:18

Woah, big team here! I liked this game, it's so complete and has a good gameplay! Also the art it's lovely, and the animations are super smoooooths.

Things I didn't like:

- The background in the menus was a bit annoying :( You could follow your own artstyle! - I think I had a visual problem... Sometimes, in random frames, I had in my screen black holes. I think I took the right version but... - I needed thouse FX's for the habilities. But nice try!

Things I liked:

- Animations. - Habilities and pixel art. - Atmosphere that you have created - Music it's clean and good, doesn't sound repetitive.

In overall great game! @eduardo-yukio your improving it's awsome! I will try to visit all the other components of the team. GG!

nigogo 2019-05-01 17:12

I will do this in your own style because I've seen you do this on quite some games

Things I didn't like: * The sword animation is just a bit smaller than your actual range. * The character has to stand still while hitting enemies. * The pacts are a little hard to use. Maybe trigger eruption instantly and add some visual aid for aminig the fireball and beam?

Things I liked: * The art is nice * Animations look good * Audio helps a lot * You created an interesting atmosphere * Different enemies make the game more challenging and interesting

Huge team! Glad you managed to coordinate everything. Overall nice game!

mrtnldm 2019-05-01 21:14

Huge team :O Must have been hard to divide tasks. Animations, audio and art are great. For some reason the name and the cover were misleading - didn't expect a hack-and-slash wave defender (if that's how they are called) - don't get me wrong, it was fun! Well done!

eduardo-yukio 2019-05-01 23:08

@mrtnldm You're definitely right, we added some ingame screenshots to clarify. I loved your way of describing our game, I'm gonna put it in the description too haha, thank you very much for the feedback!

@nigogo The visual aid would be awesome indeed, it hasn't even crossed our minds to do it, we'll certainly be more aware in the next games! Thanks for the kind words!

@carpin Thank you very much for the comment! Yeah, those black squares happened with one of our members, we are almost sure that it was caused by his Windows desktop wallpaper changing automatically, bizarre xP.

I'm flattered that you two used my style of comments, it was unexpected for sure hahaha.

eldskald 2019-05-02 03:27

Hey, thanks everyone for all the feedback! It took all of us in the team a lot of effort to put it out, so we're glad that you like it!

As most people pointed out, our team was huge! We are a group of passionate people, and we do it mostly to learn and improve as devs. Lots of people on the team were newcomers making their first actual game, me included. Coordinating wasn't easy, we were overwriting each other's code all the time and communication was rough. Most of the issues pointed out were caused by cutting content that we didn't had time to implement, such as bulkier enemies, a better spell UI and the inconsistent art. We tried our best, and it makes me very happy to see that most of you liked it!

@mamoniem She always attacks were the cursor is pointing, and you have to be moving in the direction you want to dash, otherwise she will dash down. Maybe that was what you were experiencing?

zeriver 2019-05-03 19:10

That's some high quality LD entry! I like how you gradually explain game mechanics in the game, it's rare for a game made in jam to have tutorial. The gameplay is fun and there was some weight to the choice between HP and restoring mana / soul since on later waves using skills is super useful. Fighting, dodging, kiting and utilize your skills is really fun and rewarding. I also like how many different enemies there are.

One thing that could be improved is maybe making projectiles more visible - they kinda blend with the background. And maybe somehow highlighting what skill is currently selected would be nice - at first it was kinda confusing to know what skill am I using and if next click will do the desired effect or not.

Great entry overall, fun to play and really well made.

eduardo-yukio 2019-05-03 19:52

@zeriver You're definitely right about the spells, one person here on the post commented that we should've done a visual aid and I think it would've fixed the issue you noticed too.

We thought deeply about the tutorial, I'm really, very happy that you liked it! Thank you very much for your words!

copper-aardvark-games 2019-05-04 19:12

Nice polish and graphics. I had a blast playing.

no-grapes-games 2019-05-04 21:12

Cool game! I like how the normal attack had a bit of range on it so you don't have to be on top of the enemy to get a hit in. Nice polish, great work!

dorkulon 2019-05-05 20:05

Good job on this! Very polished game. You did a particularly good job on the onboarding.

randomphantom 2019-05-06 13:29

That was a really huge team! Combat was tight and fluid, game was fun and the ramp up in challenge was just nice, and graphics were neat. Love how you had the text between battles to explain what was going on.

In terms nitpicks, I found the hitboxes for the magic spells to be quite hard to tell. There was a little bit of textures flickering and artifacts on-screen, not sure if its Godot being unstable. The fonts also appear to show "K" weirdly? "Back" seemed to read as "Bacf". Oh, and those ghosts are really quite OP if they're bunched together. Otherwise, small nitpicks for a fun game!

ectucker1 2019-05-10 20:40

Love the melee combat in this; it feels really satisfying. My main complaint would be the spells; they seemed to take forever to activate and generally didn't feel impactful enough. I would also have liked some kind of animation on the dash. Overall quite good; I really enjoyed the sound effects.

morgan-cabral 2019-05-11 06:43

Well implemented gameplay and I find the severed skeletal heads to be amusing. Well done!

jordantanner 2019-05-11 13:38

Biggest LD Jam team I've seen! Cool game!

joshanthony1990 2019-05-11 23:10

Fun hack n' slash. I liked that you used Godot, I used it for mine as well. ;)

(Godot-related question: I noticed that the screen would flicker random black patches when I played with the game maximized, which is similar to something that happened in my own game. Did anyone else notice this?)

eduardo-yukio 2019-05-11 23:20

@joshanthony1990 Hey, thanks for playing our game! Yes, those flickering things happened A LOT on another game that we made (on Godot aswell), and we realized that it was happening because of the Godot rendering backend, the GLES2 or GLES3 that appears on the upper-right corner of the interface.

At that game, we used GLES3 and , on Linux, the issue appears to be much less common, but in Windows that game was unplayable. So for this one we used GLES2 and it helped a lot, but it still flickered a little on one PC where the setting to automatically change the desktop wallpaper was on. Do you happen to use this setting on your PC too? If not, we still don't know exactly why this happens haha. But thanks for your feedback!

joshanthony1990 2019-05-11 23:49

@eduardo-yukio I don't use that setting. I used GLES2 too. I developed on Linux and never noticed the flickering there. It was only after playing on a Windows machine that I saw it happening. I was wondering if the Nvidia card had something to do with it, after noticing the setting in the Project Settings, but I haven't started to really investigate yet.

Good to know my game isn't the only one, though, so it's not solely related to how I did things. :P

It also only seems to happen when the window is maximized. I didn't see it happening when the screen was sized to the game's default setting.

behrooz 2019-05-12 04:58

It's fun! I enjoyed everything I think the level of music can be a little higher according to the level of SFXs

spirits 2019-05-12 20:02

Love the pixel art! Great game! I enjoyed playing it. One thing I found a bit off was the collision box of the demons, as for I played I noticed that the collision box of the demon takes all the sprite (as for a top down game - The collision of the sprite should be from feet to hip, Not all the way to its head), because when I tried to attack them from above I always got damage so I stopped attacking from above. Overall really nice game! Congrats!
