LD44 — Your life is currency

Hey, thanks everyone for all the feedback! It took all of us in the team a lot of effort to put it out, so we're glad that you like it!

As most people pointed out, our team was huge! We are a group of passionate people, and we do it mostly to learn and improve as devs. Lots of people on the team were newcomers making their first actual game, me included. Coordinating wasn't easy, we were overwriting each other's code all the time and communication was rough. Most of the issues pointed out were caused by cutting content that we didn't had time to implement, such as bulkier enemies, a better spell UI and the inconsistent art. We tried our best, and it makes me very happy to see that most of you liked it!

@mamoniem She always attacks were the cursor is pointing, and you have to be moving in the direction you want to dash, otherwise she will dash down. Maybe that was what you were experiencing?

Didn't have any issues with the controls too. Not controlling jump height feels bad, but there was never a need to make short jumps, so it's okay. I really enjoyed the novelty, though. What felt weird though was the fact that you didn't need nothing from the shop other than the gun and the super jump. But hey, if the only bad I can find in your game is something that was not in it, then it means it is really good! Great graphics, I have to say! From a solo dev, that's a solid game you've got there!

Hey, good job! I love the nordic aesthetic! You did a great job on nailing it, the story being told is really enjoyable. But the gameplay was really rough. The lack of vertical attacks made killing monsters above or below you really painful, as there was nothing you could do other than wait for them to come to your level. What really broke it though were bugs. I found two game breaking bugs: once the ship spawned beyond the map's borders and other time I got knocked back through the wall and clipped out of the map. I had to restart the game on both times, starting all over again, which felt really bad. But yeah, I pulled through in the end, and I know how it is to do a game jam, and I think the pixel art and the story makes it worth it. Good job!

Immortal Alchemy by fortytwoboxes 2019-05-01T04:14:10Z

I like the idea of an alchemy game, but the randomness felt like I was not accomplishing anything. I never knew what would happen, no formula was reliable, making me feel like I was just watching instead of making any decisions whatsoever. But yeah, I know how hard it is. Good job, nonetheless!

Nothing Matters by kazuo256 2019-10-26T18:28:14Z

@gord10ahmet You do have control of where they spawn. Pay attention to the cursor on the other screen, it is indicating where things will spawn.

Not My Hoarder by Tommyflower 2019-10-16T02:10:11Z

Hahahaha, I loved the concept. I was wandering why do you had a jump button at the start. Boy, did I needed it... The music is amazing, much fitting for the gameplay where you had to rush to do things. You got a solid gameplay here, very simple yet effective and fun, everything a jam submission dreams for.

War For Nothing by kubs 2019-10-16T02:32:19Z

Damn, that tank fight is haaard! Game is solid, but I don't know about that ammunition mechanic. Usually on those shooting games, the most important thing is to shoot, so to make your gun stop shooting is a bit counter productive. But it's a solid game for a game jam nonetheless. Congratulations!

Girl in a Dungeon by Phoenix Fireflower 2019-10-16T03:03:02Z

Cool game you got there! The gameplay felt solid, although the brown enemy had that snowball effect on which the closest you were from it, the faster it got. The turret was also weird, since we had no puzzles using it, so it felt like just a reason to keep jumping in a rhythm, and it was very counter intuitive the way it shot through walls. But yeah, nice submission overall!

Spooky: The one who lost everything by Susumu Asaga 2019-10-18T02:21:53Z

Lovely. Just lovely. I loved the level design, the way you taught the mechanics was subtle and effective, very clever design. The art and music was on point, the game looks very beautiful, and the BGM is also good and sets the mood very well.

The parts I can say were lacking was, above all, the controls. Making fine movements is impossible, as it seems like you start at full speed when pressing the button and then you deaccelerate down to a halt when letting go. You could also accelerate the movement from zero to max speed and keep the low acceleration when stopping as well, this way you keep the movement floaty (fitting the mood and theme) and you are still able to do fine movements. You could even brake by moving in the opposite direction! Lastly, I would say the game had little to no feedback. Other than possessing paintings, everything else was too static, like when killing the mages, they did nothing other than pop out. But yeah, that's just nitpicky, I know you can't polish the game in a game jam.

Very nice submission overall. I played two times to get to both doors at the end. You have a solid game there in your hands! Congratulations!

Soul Avenger by Kaizo 2019-10-16T01:55:58Z

Very thematic! I love the ideas, but the combat and progression were a bit weird. I never knew there was a dash option, and the character range felt too short. Except for the boss, all other mobs could out range you. The boss' range felt weird, I managed to beat him by just spamming Spacebar and he never hit me. Still, for a game jam with only 2 people, the graphics, animations and sound were solid. Great job!
