LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Planet by mactinite 2017-08-14T15:45:35Z

Good game with some nice art. I enjoyed playing it two days ago, but never had the time to write you down until today. Thing i liked about the game: - The 3d art - the nice shaders you have for the jam. - the music was nice, reminds me with slime rancher. - you made what seems a complete game...with MENUS and options!!!! you really spent good amount of time making a good package here. - loved you particles, billboards, mesh particles, electric fx,...all the vfx was nice for that little amount of jam time!

What might need improvements from my opinion: - the game was linear and straight forward, it might be okay for the jam version, but i guess if you plan for a full game, you need to rethink the gameplay and desing once more. - i wish there were mode hidden stuff :D

Planet Nanadoo: Quest for the Powered Fruit by MrTroy 2017-08-07T15:18:08Z

Nice game, but that thing was moving really, really faster than expected!

While playing, i felt that you might have spent sometime balancing a lot of things in your game, but seems everything solo working fine, but all together still not in a 100% harmony. But I guess it's more than fine for a 2 or 3 days game :D

-m

Crystals Of Power by Avon 2017-08-14T15:46:12Z

Good game!

-m

Robo Drainer by Hjalte 2017-08-11T15:02:35Z

Funny, little buggy, but nice game eventually.

What i didn't enjoy so far was the speed of the movement, and the little slide in movement, as you know, for a platformer, the character controller is almost everything. But good job for game jam.

-m

Escape from Power by Petzi 2017-08-11T15:05:55Z

good game design, this might make a good lil game in the future.

-m

Inferno by Megalink 2017-08-06T06:04:16Z

First impression from the menu was a "Top down doom", but later i found it is something else. I loved the art, music, projectiles, and screen shakes. Good job!

-m

Stranded In Space by MAT4DOR 2017-08-14T15:36:49Z

Good game. First look before i open to play, i said "ah,..another Kerbal space game!", but once i played, i knew it is a different thing! well, a totally different thing!

things that I liked: - The fast load of the game on browser, while it has penalty of 3d models, it is really well optimized. - The models quality. - The use of the jam theme. - Your particle FX. - Nice gameplay. I would say a complete loop!

What i didn't like so far: - Fairly complicated controller inputs comparing to the game size. Jam games in a way of another have to get simple controls, as the players will be playing several games per hour. And a lot per day. - sound fx was not that good. but still not that bad either.

-m

Mr Mayor's Energy Crisis by HuvaaKoodia 2017-08-05T13:44:25Z

Good job, didn't play a top down that looks like gta 1 for a long time :D

-m

Robo Climb by pyrosneak 2017-08-07T14:34:18Z

"No level,...Nooooo Don't move up!" :D it's what I've been screaming for a while!

I loved the game idea, the way you kill those bots, the art style, the 8-bitish music. I only disliked the gravity feel for the robot move.

Also, i would recommend keep the screen edges as a safe zone, it made no sense for me to die, just for the sake of going left of right. It might be a plush mechanic if you allow for left<->right thing like PacMan.

-m

Icarus Fate by saintheiser 2017-08-05T08:29:15Z

Nice art, but I was not that lucky to survive for long though.

-m

Interstellar Electric Inc. by quadtree 2017-08-14T15:37:58Z

Good little game. To be fair, I saw few games sharing the same mechanic and idea within this jam, but it's fine. You have a fairly different execution.

-m

I hate Snakes! by mennchen22 2017-08-05T14:35:53Z

Amazing way to reveal the level, this would make a nice main mechanic for a full steam game.

-m

Spincharge by DMajor 2017-08-07T14:59:31Z

nice lil game. That red thing really hard to kick out!

For a while i thought we are both spheres, until the red guy flipped upside down.

⚡ Swing Bolt ⚡ by AJ Weeks 2017-08-14T15:56:33Z

Good job in making FUNNY game!

I loved the: - Controller - Art - Music - The blue things - The VFX was really nice - The UI was in place

Everything was perfect for this game, I played on keyboard, and can't imagine how fun it will be with the controller. This game will either be a win for the jam, or with some polish will be seen on Nintendo switch ;)

-m

Running out of Pow E.R. by larzan 2017-08-21T16:07:43Z

Good game, you played a lot with the camera, which some times was nice, but other items was a distraction for me to lose :D but I loved: - Most of the camera function - The music - The linear complexity in progression - The loading time was not that bad

One thing i want to mention, while it was loading the game mentioned using the mouse cursor up/down to play, which meant for me swiping with the mouse, but i ended up using the keyboard arrows!

-m

Qwt by gentoogames 2017-08-03T01:08:02Z

looks nice,I loved the visuals, but the controls was little weird sometimes. Also i didn't get it, when i can roll and when i can't. But at least sometimes I was able to roll and run faster.

-m

Botnet Smashers by dusakus 2017-08-07T14:51:44Z

It's quire rare to find a game looks like a TD within a game jam. I didn't understand fully the behaviors of the units, but one thing I noticed, that i can spawn as many as I wish, and this should not be super helpful if you want to balance the game.

-m

Dream Disc by mindfungus 2017-08-14T15:25:29Z

nice game. it felt a good mobile game for me. To be honest it was hard first to pick up the idea, or the how to play. So I've to back again to the page and go through your full description and read it. Then it became clear an nice to play.

I think in a full product you would be overcoming this issue by adding some tutorials or such, but i totally understand that it is a jam game, and the time was limited. Loved it.

Also, while the art is very minimalism, but for some reason i felt it different and standing form lots of other ios/android games i played recently that usually shares a similar or close style.

good job!

-m

B:/ Connected by AidanMarkham 2017-08-03T01:16:40Z

Little confusing, but loved it. it has a unique way to play. And one by one you start understanding the different command lists and what could be applied for each system. One thing Iw as looking for, a space between my last command, and the new results, so it makes it easy to understand easily where is the new outputs, just few line breaks would made it easier.

-m

Punchey! (VR ONLY) by shadowbrain 2017-08-07T17:06:29Z

I was hoping to play this game. For some reason can't run it with Oculus & touch!

-m

The Hunt for Red October Box by hadesfury 2017-08-01T14:33:41Z

Nice game. I loved the upgrade elements, but idk if it was meant to get the money value in minus or it is a bug. Also it would have been better if there is any visual feedback that tells me i successfully attached the box to the ship or no, because most of the time i was thinking it is hooked, and once i accelerated i figure out it is not! Good artstyle, and atmosphere too. good job!

-m

Surge - LD39 by IcyLava 2017-08-21T16:00:27Z

Enjoyed playing this game. It has a good potential by the what. What i loved so far: - The minimalism, reminded me with Thomas Was Alone. - The FX when i hit Z, super polished - The nice learning curve, with no single line or tutorials - No UI! which makes the experience richer in my opinion at most of the cases. - The level design served a lot the game and the learning curve of it.

-m

Decarathon by TurbotFish 2017-08-05T14:42:07Z

The Unity HTML5 thing sometimes go stupid, but at the end of the day after few times of refreshing the screen, the game manged to load and run.

The music was really nice, even if you didn't make it yourself or something, it still a great fit with the game and the overall sprite animations. The walk and run base sfx was insane, i enjoyed it.

The gameplay is fun, it was not clear first that i've to pres quickly and charge later with space, but once i knew it, it became a fight between me and the keyboard :D

good job!

-m

-m

Rise Shine Fall by ijona 2017-08-07T15:03:19Z

Nice game!

I was thinking what a peaceful experience, until the game asked me to press space bar :D then the peace gone with your pretty voice :D :D

One little thing tho mention, Unreal kicked my VR applications to run (steam and oculus) for no reason. I guess you might need to remove them from the game, which might save some of the final game size.

-m

Running on the Power of Love by nervous-composers 2017-08-05T16:21:12Z

Short game, but AMAZING one! I really loved the game, it's idea, song, the jumping sfx & the fantastic art behind. The only two things i didn't like what how short the game was, and some times it was hard to tell if the item i'm getting close to, is a background of foreground item. Some color tuning might have helped in this.

Good Job!

-m

Jet Pengy by guckstift 2017-08-05T16:35:03Z

I REALLY enjoyed this platformer. You have a great idea, but it was not clear at all at first what i've to do. But once i figured it out, i started enjoying. So far you have: - Good idea. - Funny sound effects. - Good game design (and level design). - Good controller. - Funny and nice death animation/transition

But what i think might need some work from you, would be: - Better enemies navigation. - checkpoint, specially because it might be impossible to pass 5 enemies and still alive :D

-m

Robogod by multiplexor 2017-08-05T16:38:22Z

nice, but little hard to understand. The art is super nice and well made. So as the BGM indeed.

-m

DraBot by gil4 2017-08-11T15:27:37Z

This is just amazing pretty game! It was little hard, but i got this moment of "wow" when i opened it. When i run a game jam entry; usually i don't have a high roof for the quality, but your game was more than a high quality game jam entry.

-m

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-05T06:25:01Z

Really loved it! good mechanic and balance between the kills and dropping the power to continue. I see a good game here, you shall keep working on a full release at some point :)

-m

Tower of Morale by Pixetrichor 2017-08-05T15:05:08Z

Nice little puzzle game. I got a good experience, but couple of things made me not enjoying 100%, it is minor things thoug: - The SFX was little noisy, so I've to must my speakers. - The game can't restart the level with "R" button, which is the universal thing for most of the GM games. I know you can restart the level in another way, it's what i figured out later form the page here, but usually when i play a game i don't read any of the above descriptions, so i can see how friendly the game is with my gamer soul :D

Overall, good job

-m

Metal Rescue by UnidayStudio 2017-08-05T13:48:59Z

I didn't play a blender based game for a long time. Nice game, the blades made me compare it with super meat boy :D but no it's different game.

Also i loved the fact that it looks like a full game, not a game been made in a rush, you have less bugs, tidy game, well designed levels, a full functional menu,...and much more. This must took long time and effort to do!

Good job guys!

-m

Light-Eater by prettylucky 2017-08-05T06:19:32Z

-m

Last Shine by Fran Segura 2017-08-07T15:09:14Z

I enjoyed your game from frame 1!

I hope there were clear instructions regarding the inputs, rather than dying a lot.

Also if the old man were able to move faster, I think it might have been more fun :D

-m

CoolCoalGame by Gris 2017-08-21T15:55:17Z

Haha, nice and funny game. so far i loved it, what i think might needs improvements would be: - the size and the game loading time. - the UI was not arranged in a readable and friendly way, have to try out few times until i got the idea.

But overall nice entry with good and new design ideas.

-m

Lucido by Gabet Games 2017-08-05T15:22:24Z

Amazing game. I loved almost everything in this game. A special mention goes to the sound effect (mainly the end level sound) and the music.

The core game idea and mechanic is unique, and never played similar one before. Also the controllers was almost okay. Sometimes the wall jump was driving me crazy, but eventually i knew how to handle it, but still it was not consistent with all other wall jump controllers out there.

Good job, and good luck.

-m

Turtle's Quest by orcdraco 2017-08-05T16:15:51Z

Sometimes i get stuck when jumping, and the platforms holding me from neither be up or down. Good mechanic to walk with the turtle while in shell, never played this mechanic before, though some creatures was able to hurt me while I'm in the shell, which is not an expected behavior.

-m

Cosmic Influx by Bernhard 2017-08-14T15:27:56Z

Good game. Things I liked: - your assets. - the music was great. - the ease to win :D i might dislike it if a full game, but as a game jam, i've to play lots of games in a limited time, so having little easy designed curve is appreciated from my POV. - You made a nice use of the theme!

-m

Long Live The Pig by CTTFOW 2017-08-07T14:29:50Z

Hahaha, good game about something i don't like (being a business capitalism pig) :D but i enjoyed it!

Apart form the long text and few ui bugs i met, all was good.

Good job!

-m

Studentron by Konstantin Boyko 2017-08-06T04:34:39Z

Very very unique game. I loved it from the first command. Lot's of games out there have the command functionality, but it never been used or executed in this funny and smart way.

Also i loved your art style and find it super polished. I wish there were less text first during the tutorial, or even text markups to make it easier to know what the target of the tutorial.

-m

Back Home by Simone 2017-08-11T15:00:31Z

Good job, nice little game :)

I loved that you seemed to spent sometime putting so much elements, even if it might not be perfect, but it was matters for you to make what might be a complete jam game. SFX, Music, 3d art, animations, particles,...etc.

My only two points that i didn't like, was - frame rate was not good for such a game on browser. I didn't try the standalone though. - when i walk backward, i was expecting to see the character facing me, not just moving back with the back.

-m

LDJAM39: Power Brawler League by Andreu 2017-08-05T13:31:59Z

Good game feel and music. The only issue i came with was the fullscreen thing, the game by default clipping the content until i full screen, and then back to normal. Reminds me with some nice pixel art games from the past couple of years.

-m

Energy Scraps by Royoyo 2017-08-07T14:18:18Z

What a No Man's Sky :D good game and well done. My main issues where while shooting and moving around, the projectiles been spawned in a totally wrong positions. Also i didn't have a good experience with the collisions, idk if they are not accurate or you didn't have time to carve them well to fit the meshes.

-m

Legend of Sunflower by johnnydalvi 2017-08-06T04:28:28Z

Good job, it was little confusing to understand the 2 seconds thing. But later on it became alright. I also liked the fact that you made a main menu, most of the game jams put you right away into the gameplay, but your menu and options was functional!

-m

Blackout by Kichex 2017-08-01T04:58:40Z

hahaha, man, controlling the guy in space was insane and driving me crazy! It was fun to play, the music was in place and gave me the feeling of "hurry up,..hurry up". But I didn't survive though ;(

-m

Messy Getaway by RattyBloom40 2017-08-07T14:24:08Z

Loved your game! I guess if it get faster the more distance you go, and crazier music the more you go, it will be nuts!

Things that I loved was: - your art - your fake 2d lights - the music - the effect of getting fuel - the red death screen

Things i think might need improvement: - the game flow and speed - some SFX to give some feedback - a blueish colored levek, as the cars have lights turned on, it means it is night time, so it make senese that all the level fit that and give the illusion of a night.

-m

Lost in Translation at Space by elmismopancho 2017-08-05T06:12:51Z

From Kingdom to Freedom by Studio RTV 2017-08-05T04:27:02Z

I guess if the hit boxes for the crates smaller, i might have got better experience. I've to keep replaying several times because of that. One thing i really liked the guard voice "Your majesty,..come back.....Your majesty,..come back....." hahaha it was funny. Also I liked it when i tricked him, and ran in a circle, so he hit the big blocker, he dies and stop chasing me, and the blocker gone!

I tried to win by running off the edge, but didn't work first ;( later I mastered it :D

Good job for a jam game :)

Slime Chargers! by thepaperpilot 2017-08-05T16:42:31Z

haha, better than a clicker game, but still a clicker mechanic. I still don't know what is the use of slims or what to get from killing them ?

Funny art style, but a game like this that is heavily depending on the buildings bashing the sticky men, it might have been better to have variations on the bashing sound effects.

Nice game, what i loved so far: - the overall quality. - the art style. - the explosions. - the super FLUID controller. - the sound effects.

But what i didn't like was few and kinds minor things, like: - the menu and it's low quality fonts. You would have made a fantastic menu for such a game in a short time. - the overall volume in the game was very low, and i've to push my speaker to the maximum to be able to hear.

what a star fox game!

Gainz 4 Cash by 0x01F0 2019-05-01T09:40:37Z

Wow, when i saw 450MB for a jam entry :D i thought it must be an open world game, but later after 1 hour of slow internet downloading I figured out how funny and silly it is :D

Ancient Current See by paulhocker 2019-05-01T06:57:06Z

Good take on the theme. It was hard to get the point at first, i keep pressing "E" and nothing happens, until mistakenly I've don it while being within the blue circle, then it was the "Ahaaaaa" moment.

The game is overall nice, and fitting theme perfectly, also impressive that you used godot engine, which is something we don't see a lot recently.

My only issue with the game, that i've always been thinking i'll be using the sword :D it is there, so i must use it, but I didn't so far!!

The game seem nice...HUGE credits screen, but hard to play, I don't know if I've played the jam version or the updated 1.1, but i had hard time in correctly do the action at the desired direction. I could be looking left, but when dash, the girl dash right, and could be looking right and when i use the weapon it hit at the other direction. Which made me die fast, and die a lot.

Music and mood were nice btw!

Lovely meaningful game, with fancy UI and amazing art and music.

The game was freezing for few frames, specially when starting it, but i'm okay with that.

I like the entire package together, well done!

5/5 start on all aspects btw!

Rent for Life by Iferit 2019-05-01T07:37:48Z

Never been a reaper before, so it's new to me :D

First attempt, I was experimenting the game, and the controllers, it took time, so I only collected 3 lives, but then the boss came and say I disappointed him, i then noticed that there were timer counting. So in the following attempt i focused on collecting 10/10 lives, and I did at the last couple of seconds, but the big guy said I disappointed him again.. I kept trying, but he always say I'm disappointing him, so I assume there is something broken in the game loop/logic.

I would recommend you show the controls at the main menu, may be making the UI larger, specially the time so I can see it, may be the countdown timer make sound of ticking at least when your time is near an end.

The souls/people, might need to be more at first, at least at first time to play, so player don't need to keep walking more just to reach one person in the middle of no where. Also fixing navigation will be nice, as the people used to walk through the fountain.

How can a Demon merchant be this cool!? by ilPrinny 2019-05-01T07:01:58Z

Oh,..old school text adventure...We not used to play that type of games nowadays!!

It requires some Imagination =D for the graphics! I imagined playing it as pixel art!!!

Good job!

there is one note though, google chrome is reporting the file, and asking if i'm sure that i want to download that suspicious file, and even after downloading, the windows defender say it doesn't trust that file, and when i ran it, windows say it is from unknown source, am I sure about this!!! So I trust and bypassed all that, but may be other person won't, and might simply delete it before playing.

Nice game! and at some point it becomes tense :D

You've done a good job, not only in picking the game idea, but also in kinda balancing the game, i liked the idea of how many bullet you need to shoot an enemy and what is the return type of battery to get!

I would say the only issue i had while playing that i had the feeling that all enemies almost sharing the same speed, which i guess very similar to the player speed, which made it easy to get stuck in a corner surrounded by all the different types of enemies. I would not mind that scenario, but only if I've the ability to shoot faster, or even shoot more effective bullets with higher damage.

Good job!

Catch all the coins by Matu 2019-05-01T10:15:43Z

Crazy one, it started boring game, and ended up being very challenging.

Also good job, as it seems you made your own game from scratch not using any modern engine, via something like allegro, which is impressive!

Regarding the gameplay, my only recommendation is to make sure no coins are spawned behind the UI text, as most of the time, I know that I've collected everything, but the level not ended, and by looking carefully, i find a coin is behind the text.

My only recommendation is not about the game itself, it is to use something like itch.io or dropboox, as mediafire required med to use VPN to access it.

"Hated Strawberry" of course sending her straight to hell!!

I love your game, it is simple, easy to understand, and funny to play even with that simple clicking controller! It reminded me with papers Please, but in more ironically way!

Good graphics for a jam game, nice music and amazing evil laugh! Well-done!

Our Mechanical Life by qlqrcoisa 2019-05-01T07:11:14Z

hahaha, yea, better to start the comment laughing, as this is what i really felt while playing.

The game started normal, like any other game, i move, and collect items, and read the text on the screen. I liked the idea of collecting anything and everything =D nothing harmful, but this actually as much as it made me happy, it made me suspecting that is something will happen. And suddenly things started to speed up :D

It became crazy, hahaha, can't be fast enough to read, and can't control what to collect, it became crazy, and I liked it! specially because I expected death, and it did happen!

KUDOS!!!!

Our Dear Friend by Wildebeest 2019-05-01T05:01:06Z

I did enjoy playing "Our Dear Friend", the final product is really well polished comparing to a jam entry!

The art is amazing, the sound fx and music is well done, the mechanic though isn't really perfect, I love grappling hooks, but this one was different, for example: why it shoot in short distance, while at the same time i can't see beyond few centimeters from the player, it would have made more sense if i can shoot it for longer or even infinite distance (again this is from only the fact of not seeing where i'm shooting it).

Also it would have made more fun if i can use the grappling hook to kill the spiders, then i would have needed for the right click button mechanic then. I can't imagine shooting the grappling hook to start swinging, i don't see where the hook ends, and when i move there, i find a dead spider :D that would be fun!

Again, for a jam entry, i'm amazed, and it is really nice. Well done!
