Nice entry! Combat system is really interesting, and the story makes good use of the theme.

The music, and the battle music in particular, is really nice.

Great job for a Compo entry!

That was fun. Took me a bit to get the hang of it, but I was eventually able to free myself! Seeing the opponents hand in advance felt odd; I'm going to try to get the best hand regardless, so why not just reveal at the end for a more poker-y experience?

Dude, this was awesome. Really creative mechanics, great battle music, and I definitely felt the push to beat all those people and take their souls. I'd love to know how you did the card generation! It felt perfectly balanced, like I had just enough time to try to find the winning hand but it was still a challenge to do so. Great work.

Fantastic game. Only criticism is that it's hard to find the winning hand when you can barely see the third row before the first card locks in, but I dig it nonetheless! Maybe increase the falling speed but also lengthen the distance between rows?

Pretty fun game! Took me forever to win, but that's just because I was being dumb. Cool art, and the devil laugh was really well done. Good job!

Nice one!

Thank you everyone for the feedback!

@trevor-shoe My reasoning was that seeing the opponent's hand gives the player something to aim for, so that every fight doesn't feel the same. I think a hidden hand could also be cool though, maybe as some kind of challenge mode or boss fight?

@carlsonandpeeters Thanks! In typical game-jam fashion, I just randomly chose a bunch of cards from a list, ran a brute force check whether the setup would be winnable, and then repeated the process until it was.

@humfuzz Yeah, fine-tuning the difficulty is always tricky. My intent was to give the player enough time to plan for different possibilities before the 3rd card was visible, but not enough time to just wait until all the cards were on-screen before looking for combos. I definitely might have erred a little on the fast side though.

Fun game! I'm not familiar with poker games so it took me a while to even figure out what is a winning hand. After that it was quite fun to play. It was difficult too. But at least the hand each opponent has does not change so you can try repeatedly. I like the background music.

Great game! It kinda felt like Pokemon Poker lol! Amazing job!

I don't think the poker mechanic is all that fun. I think more time could have been put into the music to make it a bit more interesting and less grating. I didn't finish the game because I lost interest.
