I tried to play because your idea is fascinating but it crashes right after scribbling out the first light.

I tried to play because your idea is fascinating but it crashes right after scribbling out the first light.
Thanks! But hey, lemme check this out...
So I just downloaded it again and it worked fine for me. What kind of computer are you using?
Do you mean the light on the title screen? Also, did it say why it crashed?
It crashes for me too.
It also crashed on my computer (win7 64bit) when I scribbled over the first light but then I reopened it to copy the error and it worked fine. I really enjoyed your idea and there's a lot of potential, hope you get to work on the spooky story in the future!
Here you go: ___________________________________________

Replaying does seem to fix the problem though, great game! It was a lot of fun.
wasea, on which screen?
Thaaaank you @blobo (and everyone) I know what it is! Please hang tight! I'm going to fix this right now! :D
Okay! Uploaded a new one that should fix this crash! Let me know!
Thanks for giving it another shot!:D
I too crashed after scribbling out the first light, this is the error: ___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ FATAL ERROR in action number 1 of Step Eventobj_ink for object obj_light:

Seems like a fun idea, would like to try again if you can fix it.
@jake-cope Hey, thanks! Is that in my (so-called) "CRASH FIXED" version??
Loved your game. The idea is amazinggggggggggg!!! Anything that involves me drawing on the screen = instant love! :P
But you have truly chalked out something beautiful and I can't thank you enough for developing this gem of a game. Loved the visual style(do you think you will incorporate music?)!
And the game itself is something new. Always love new ideas and new games! Congratulations and good luck with your game. I faced a crash after 2 levels(rooms) - maybe because I scribbled on the whole game window? :P
I'm not sure how this fits the theme but it was fun to play. I love the aesthetics.
@krishnasism Thanks! I'm glad you loved it! Hahaha, maybe that's why it crashed! (lol I have no clue why). It's just the title and the long room, so if you got past the burning house, then you saw everything!
Yeah, I actually have a lot of ideas for this game. Going out to a park, a more diverse street segment, eventually up into the sky to take out The Big Light 0.0 I might keep it going, and if I do, there's definitely going to be music and soundeffects and all that!:D
@azargaz Thanks for playing! Ya know, it's like the town is running out of power because you're scribbling all the lights away (is it a stretch?? XD).
I talked with my brother about the aesthetics, he said I should have taken photos of the objects then run a filter on em, so it'd be a similar line-style, but like super-realistic contour drawings instead.
I ended up going with this because I like it more (and let's be real, I only had 3 days!);)
Interesting idea. But missing game principles (no scoring, losing or winning), nevertheless it has a potential. This would we best played with a stylus, mouse is clumsy.
@richard-jedlicka Haha, yeah, a lesson to us all (mostly to me). I wasn't committed to a particular scoring system until the final stretch when it hit me...this isn't a "game" in some sense of the word ^^' I tried to splash one in, but you know how that goes, annnnd I ended up breaking it.
In a final version, the Light-Eater will show up (and kill you) if you miss a light as the screen scrolls.
Same page about the stylus! I just wanted to reach more people. Thanks for playing!
Nice game! I like it. Other than that, the game crashed after a few houses.
FATAL ERROR in action number 1 of Step Eventobj_ink for object obj_light:

Really cool idea! It a nice relaxing game. I tried going really fast and taking out all of the lights, but the auto timed scroll let me slow down and enjoy the artwork. It's a cool art style really.
I got the crash like many others, but trying again and only clicking (not dragging) got me through the intro screen. It was smooth after that.
I thouuuught I solved this crash, but I obviously didn't test the game enough. So, after this much feedback, I tried extra-weird playstyles and eventually found this crash for myself! The last time I thought it was specific for the title screen.
This time I pin-pointed the actual problem and wrote a little line that shouuuld fix this (I hope for real this time!XD) I tried really hard to make this crash happen on the new version and couldn't get it.
Anyone who has played and happens to see this post, if you have a second ^^' I'd appreciate you trying to replicate your crash on the "NEW CRASH FIX" version.
Thanks everyone for your feedback! I got locked in my playstyle and overlooked a HUGE glitch, so thanks for helping me find it. I'm taking this lesson with me;)
@ledez Happy you liked you the game! I crawled through every bit of that code and I think I fixed that problem. Please let me know!
@battle-buddy Hey, I appreciate that, I'm proud of how it came out visually!
I'll tell my girlfriend you liked the pacing, she's the reason I slowed it down. Here I am scribbling like mad and waiting for it to progress, but in the time it took me to finish the house, she's still scribbling the second light xD I ended up taking a liking to the slowdown too.
Interesting idea, got me scribbling like an idiot xD
Very interesting idea! I liked it a lot. Very relaxing, the graphics are well made. It would have been so good if this had some music! Too bad it wasn't longer than that, I had fun scribbling!
Overall it's a great game. Well done!
Very innovative game. Love the idea and the execution. The experience of this game is very zen until I found out that there was a time limit before the camera moves on :stuck_out_tongue: The scribbling mechanics is quite well done, I haven't notice any bug. Would love a score of some sort at the end because I definitely miss quite a few lights especially towards the end. Some soft, relaxing background music will bring this game to the next level. I enjoyed playing this game, very relaxing. Love the scribbled graphics. Very well done!
Pretty fun and cute! Nice visuals and atmosphere. Love the title. Would be better with more plot and music though :( Loved the scribbling mechanics, wonder how you made them.
Very nice mechanic. You gotta work on it more, you could make a really cool game.
@spice135 You discovered the game's underlying purpose!! lol xD
@fingamer Thanks! Next time I'll dedicate time to finding music, because you're right, the mood would be improved with sound. It might be longer one day..
@jackyjjc Innovation was my primary focus:) It's cool to hear this game was relaxing for some people and frantic for others. Scoring is missing because I didn't prioritize it early on ^^'
No bug, yes! Let's hope it sticks, I put good thought into that solution, so if it breaks, I'm not gonna know what to do haha
@ronan13 Haha, "cute" that's a new one, I suppose it is a little cute. Yeahhh, plot and music will come as I continue this project on the side.
The scribbling mechanics...A magician never reveals his tricks x)
@mariandev96 I will be working on it more over time! Thanks for playing:)
Hooray! I'm a darkness itself. I really like the game concept.
Really good concept! This is one of the better games I've seen so far, It's a really simple concept executed really well. Nice job! Next time try to get some audio. Good job, hope to see you in the next Ludum Dare!
I'm sorry, I wasn't crazy about this one. The basic idea of scratching out lights was interesting but the execution's really missing something to latch onto. No threat, no score, no difference if you scratch the lights or not, no sound to set the atmosphere. I could imagine this being the basis for a fuller prototype, but there just isn't much here yet.
@dolash Yeahhh ^^' I didn't get around to adding the threat.. I'm adding the threat, music and more content for a final version I'll release at the end of the jam:)
I didn't prioritize sound since it's a jam and I'd end up just taking stock music from someplace, but you (and everyone else that's said it) are right, it really does need sound for the whole thing to come together.
Thanks for playing!
@iceking Hehe, thanks. I thought it would be a cool reversal and so far I haven't seen too many people do it like this!
@offz Hey, I really appreciate that! Audio is a must I am learning. Yeah, you'll see me in LD until they stop doing em!
Really Creative idea! It's not a drawing but rubbing game! if there are more feature like others said(threat), there will be more fun. However, I still have fun in the current version because of your creative idea!
Here is a little question, the name of your game is Light-Eater, why don't just let the player control a rubber or some kind of monster? The first message I get from controlling a pen is that I need to draw something! ( OK I saw that it's black pen haha but I still think something like rubber or monster may more match with the name "Eater")
An interesting concept! Would have like to see a little more "game".
This was a nifty little game! I'm actually curious to see a finished product if you decide to complete it. I thought the scribble art and having to scribble out the light was unique although I was confused on how to get the game started at first (but I'm not the brightest bulb sometimes...eh...eh??? lol!). I do kind of wish that when you complete an area that the map would move instead of having to pause for a bit, ruined my groove-or maybe I'm just that good ;P!
@goldranger Haha, yeah I guess it sort of is a rubbing game, huh? The marker was a placeholder for a variant of the story that I didn't flesh out fully and I ended up leaving it because it fit in (graphically) with everything else. It's good you could enjoy it anyway!
@jelch Thanks! I'd like to see a little more "game" too! ...We'll see what I can do!
@korgo Hey, I light-ke that idea! (too far?? lol) It'll take a bit of doing, but I'll add that in! This way your groove will not be ruined next time!xP
I knew I took a chance with the way to start the game, but I think it's cool to discover it:)
I like this
nice little game!
-m
The idea is nice, but the gameplay isn't that fun in my opinion... The graphics are great, but there is no sound to back them up. Overall, it's not bad - but kind of lacking on content and music.
nice work!!
I think that you have an interesting idea here. I played the game using a drawing tablet and that made it a lot easier. I think that the game part is what is missing though. I couldn't help but think that it would be really neat and challenging if you had to cover up the lights before they scrolled off the screen. Still it was pretty neat. I think you almost invented a new kind of game :p. Its a shame you didn't have time to add audio, but I know how it goes.
Wow! Very original idea that made for a relaxing and fun game. I dig the dark, simplistic art style. I wish that we could see some of this 'light eater', though.
This was a really cool idea and it was a lot of fun to play. I feel like with some fleshing out on the story and a bit of sound it could be something really amazing, given time constraints great game.
Very interesting mechanic. I think there should have been just a bit of music as it would give even this unfinished bit a really nice mood.
Either that or you could have been really mean and put in a jump scare at the end >=)
Original idea, but its missing story and challenge elements. Graphic is very fitting. I hope that you continue development on this. It has that special something that can make it great mobile app.
I love the idea! Thinking about it while playing even made me a little uneasy, definitely an original point of view! The graphics help with the creepy atmosphere and the way it plays is unlike anything I've played. Good work :)
@omriysh Not giving myself time to add sound was easily my biggest mistake of LD39. I'm working on adding elements of gameplay like urgency to extinguish the lights and a scroll that detects when you're done. If you get the chance to try to the new version (once I've posted it), then let me know what you think! Thanks for playing:)
@sondrian That was actually in my plan for gameplay until I ran out of time. I've already put that idea into the version I'm releasing after the voting is over! I don't know about inventing a new kind of game ^^' but thanks for saying so! (I do think it's an uncommon game)
@bveeramani You willll see more of this "Light-Eater" if you stumble upon my game in the future :D
@elizabeth-thomas Thanks! The constraints are what make the fun of Ludum Dare! I'm happy to hear I could make something cool in that time:)
@phlip45 Haha, actually considered splashing the jump-scare in there, but didn't want to put anything half-baked in during the final day xD
@kabalatrance I am steadily continuing development on this:) I'm going to release an update after voting is done, and a 'final' release some time after that. Mobile does seem like a natural fit for this game, I might go for it if I'm happy enough with my code!
@fran-segura Thanks for noticing! I put all my initial effort into choosing a different point of view for the theme:)
Great art and atmosphere, I enjoyed it immensely. It would definitely benefit from a story mode and a definite narrator. Keep up the good work!
Ahh nice. I played this with my tablet xD
Very, very nice game, graphics are beautiful, one of the best concepts so far. Gameplay could be made a little bit challenging (probably you could add timer?), and story would make game even better.
You did a great game congratulations.
to be honest I didn't like the game too much, but the idea is original and the graphics are cool, congrats.
