LD39 — Running out of Power

Tax Rebel by LeReveur 2017-08-04T20:58:23Z

I loved the intro! The gameplay is challenging and simple, and the AI and pathfinding works flawlessly. Great job with the programming. I would've liked to have keyboard controls since I didn't have a mouse with me, but still, it was a great entry. Nice job!

HackOS by stevenjmiller 2017-08-04T06:25:31Z

I really admire the game you've created. It's incredible that in just two days you were able to implement such a complex and innovative mechanic. And even beyond the gameplay mechanics, the art and dialogue and everything just feels cohesive. Wow!

Powercore by Lord_404 2017-08-06T03:25:07Z

I think I had a little bit too much fun just running and jumping around with the character - the sound design and controls were spot on in my opinion, as were the movement particle effects. I did get confused when I was unable to use the jump pads after a few failed attempts, I only figured out from looking at the comment section that using them expended your power. Great entry!

The Journalist by mato26 2017-08-04T05:56:15Z

Great job! I had a lot of fun with this game. I thought that the art was very fitting and that your interpretation of the theme was clever. And the ability to post articles is also brilliant. There were two issues I found when I played the game. The first, as it has been mentioned before, is the slower game progression. The second was that I would often reattempt to type a word I made an error on, causing me to accidentally mistype the next word. However, I found myself doing that less as I played more rounds. Thanks for making this game!

Tycoon by dob 2017-08-04T06:34:31Z

Holy cow! This is great! When I first entered the game, I wasn't really impressed with the UI, but after a minute of blowing up blocks, I was hooked. There's something indescribably entertaining about the challenging Ronald Rump to a symphony of "Aha!"s. Nice job.

Kings by nitzanel 2017-08-06T03:23:18Z

Original idea - I can tell that you were very ambitious with what you wanted to accomplish with this game, and despite some gameplay-hindering bugs (one of the character dialog boxes wouldn't go away during my first playthrough), I think that it was well executed. It is somewhat difficult to get a grasp on the game - there are a lot of different numbers/mechanics/etc. to keep track of. The art was well done. The character art brings some personality to the game, and the overall aesthetic lends itself to a 1980's strategy game. Well done!

Battery Box by mrnannings 2017-08-04T06:48:01Z

Though simple, it was really fun to twirl around and collect batteries. As @ynk, the mechanic becomes redundant after a few tries, but to me the game remained engaging. It reminds of Flash games that are great to kill time. Thanks for your submission!

I Once Had Power by jackyjjc 2017-08-04T20:35:32Z

Awesome job interpreting the theme as having the player to lose some of their powers. The music and graphics were both simple but felt very effective and fit the overall atmosphere of the game quite well. There is a minor bug where the player sticks to the walls, but it didn't at all distract from gameplay. Thanks for submitting this fun game!

Breathless Parks - Running, out of Power by gonutz 2017-08-04T20:22:16Z

This is hilarious! The sounds effects and the art made for a one-of-a-kind experience. Thanks for you submission! I definitely had a great laugh.

batteries included by unoion 2017-08-06T03:25:44Z

I loved playing as a battery! The theme is very well conveyed, both through the character design/graphics, as well as the power indicator above the main character. The controls were a tad sensitive, which caused me to lose a lot, but otherwise the platforming was solid. Great game!

Rush by Shinmera 2017-08-04T06:01:31Z

I'm really impressed with the art; great job with that! I found the wall jump mechanic to be somewhat unintuitive at times, but it wasn't so distracting that it greatly distracted from the experience. Overall, well done!

Superstuff by tddawson 2017-08-04T20:46:52Z

I had a lot of fun playing this game! It reminds me a lot of a mobile game I used to play called Mr. Jump. Thought difficult, I enjoyed the gameplay. And great job with the particle effects. An idea I had is to include a death counter; that would be cool to see. Thanks for your submission!

Losing Power by D-Studios 2017-08-04T07:09:39Z

It's an amazing feat to be able to create audio, art, and code in just two days. I'm impressed with the amount of levels and level design. That being said, here are some simple recommendations I have for the project:

- Since there are several levels, include a level menu - Paralaxing background elements always looks really cool

And a brief note about the multi-jump bug: it usually occurs when you have the jump enabled whenever the player is touching the ground. But keep in mind that the player's collider is a cube, on the right, left and top sides of the object. Hopefully this helps!

Light-Eater by prettylucky 2017-08-06T03:26:13Z

Wow! Very original idea that made for a relaxing and fun game. I dig the dark, simplistic art style. I wish that we could see some of this 'light eater', though.

ROOP: The Ship in Danger by tomasara413 2017-08-06T03:24:01Z

Well done on the graphics, and the atmosphere is fantastic. However, I found myself struggling to progress through the game. Often time I would not be able to interact with things like the keypads, and on my first attempt I lost before even leaving the first room. A brief explanation of the controls and the objective of the game on load would go a long way.

Save The Day ! by juan 2017-08-04T17:30:43Z

I like it. It's fun, simple and the graphics are nice. I didn't find myself using the accelerate mechanic very often though; I found it easier to not use it.

Plug Me by hav24 2017-08-04T17:16:34Z

I don't really have any recommendations to make; this is a really polished and fun game. I had a **37 killing spree** on level 7, but I had blast!

Dwarf Power by IndieImpala 2017-08-04T07:22:08Z

I loved this game. I didn't have a friend to play it with, but just by playing the single-player I'd image in it'd be very enjoyable. The rabbits are adorable and the music is very fitting. One recommendation I have is to play a sound effect when the player mines with a full bag; I think that would help communicate to the player that they need drop off the coal. Overall, really great job!

Dear Leader's Love Powered Peace Bomb by Zyzzyzzyz 2017-08-06T03:26:45Z

Fun, addictive, simple, yet not too easy. The music is catchy, the interpretation of the theme is unique, and you took simple mechanics and implemented them very well. When I lost, I never felt cheated, and I kept on coming back for more until I did my dear leader proud. Great job!

Big Mommy is Watching (Over) You! by Epono 2017-08-04T21:01:43Z

I enjoyed the humor of this game quite a bit, as well as the graphical style. At times the sound effects could get a bit overbearing, but they did add to the humor and overall hectic nature of the game. At times the hitboxes on the enemies could be a little off, but otherwise the gameplay felt very simple and enjoyable.

Funhouse Blackout by AndideBob 2017-08-04T06:17:11Z

The audio design is really impressive! The atmosphere coupled with the haunting clown face really is terrifying. I was a bit confused by the mechanics at first, but once I understood them the game instantly became engaging and fun. Great work!

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-04T00:26:25Z

@mato26, @shinmera, @andidebob: We really appreciate your kind comments. This is our first submission to Ludem Dare and we're all really glad you liked our game. I've looked into the glitches you noticed and have resolved them. Thank you for playing our game!

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-04T06:39:57Z

@stevenjmiller I'm glad you were able to complete the game! We were worried it may be too hard. On the topic of continuing development, we've been thinking of porting the game to mobile after Ludem Dare and adding some new mechanics and levels. There were a lot of features we wanted to implement but didn't have time for.

@dob Thanks for your feedback! I guess we hadn't really though about that. We'll be sure to include that in the post-event game.

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-04T06:51:00Z

@mrnannings Thanks for bringing the lack of clarity to our attention. Perhaps it would be helpful to implement "mini-tutorials" -- stages with only a straight path to introduce a mechanic? I think that would work well.

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-04T17:36:01Z

@hav24 Thanks!

@juan Thanks for you suggestions! We'll be sure to include models for the collectibles in the post-event game.

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-04T19:17:23Z

@gonutz Yes, absolutely! The build is uploaded.

Oil Patrol by SeanNoonan 2017-08-04T20:49:40Z

The atmosphere that you've managed to create in this project is absolutely incredible! I loved the ambient wind noises and footsteps, combined with the soft piano music in the background. The footsteps appearing in the snow was also a great touch. The pixel art looks great, and I especially loved the animations on the snowmen and on the machine. The gameplay was simple but never felt repetitive, and I thought you implemented the theme very nicely. The small story behind the game also helps build more onto the atmosphere as well. Amazing work, and I'd love to see how you could expand on this concept given more time.
