I like the graphics and the setting, however I found the gameplay really difficult to get to grip with, and I stopped because it just felt to hard, maybe I was missing something?

@peremily
The controls are just tapping left,right,left,right... but the required speed may still be too high. As the game turned out very short I wanted to make sure that you would not beat the game the first time but maybe take five to ten tries. You need to find the right rhythm when tapping.
Please let me know if it is too hard, I can easily make it easier to win if too many people get frustrated with it.
@gonutz Yeah, I personally found it a little too hard, bbut then I'm not the best at games anyway
Man.. this is rly hard XD I like the graphics and use of theme and the humor but it's kinda hard to figure out the right rhythm.. Maybe I'm just dumb but I making it easier and cranking the difficulty later I think would help with accessibility.
The visuals are awesome. It makes the whole game a lot more interesting. I could be wrong, but i found the gameplay a bit hard to manage. But other than that, rest is really fine made.
I really enjoyed the humor and art direction with the game but like a few others I struggled with the difficulty. I gave it a solid 5 tries before giving in but I couldn't quite get the rhythm down at the speed needed to succeed.
Cool game!
Great artwork and sound! I have to agree with others that it's too hard. Gave it more than 10 times. Maybe some indication of the rhythm would help, like the tutorial arrows going at the correct rhythm.
I did it! Fun game :D breathless_parks_2017-07-31_22-08-48.png
@Lawrence nicely done! :-)
Unfortunately the winning pose is hidden behind the other guy, I didn't have the time to make a nice he man lightning effect around the guy when he wins ;-)
Like the idea and art style but I was just too slow. Does your momentum stop when you press the same key twice?
Looks great! On my first go I almost won, but on subsequent attempts my fingers were too tired. This reminds me of all those old games such as Daley Thompson's Decathlon.
[Daley Thompson's Decathlon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXzboR3encQ).
@dankypants yes, you have to keep alternating and ideally not have the left button down while hitting the right button and vice versa.
@badly-drawn-rod Thanks! This is exactly the kind of game I was thinking of myself :-)
Interesting take on running out of power! My poor fingers... Macros to the rescue!
@piotrj Hey, no cheating! ;-)
I like the Cartoony Art style and your interpretation of "Running out of Power".... its the Player that is running out of power because his fingers are getting tired XD Btw you said, that you couldnt play my game, because you have a 32bit system.... maybe it works now for you ;D
Very original. The old man's walker sounds like it says "Winky, winky". I really enjoyed this one.
The gameplay gives me flashbacks to mashing buttons while playing Mario Party but it was very funny. Great presentation.
Brilliant! "I wan't Matlock! I wan't Grey's Anatomy!" :D Beautiful graphics and funny game, but I spent more time downloading and installing than actually playing :p I also found it too difficult. With some tuning it could be amazing though.
Love the game and the theme, but I agree that the speed of the controls is too high for me. Nice work on the characters too!
Love the game and the theme, but I agree that the speed of the controls is too high for me. Nice work on the characters too!
Oh man, I really whish I could play this, the graphics look awesome and the concept too! I'll see if I can install it on wine (I'm on linux)
Now I feel old like these people! My hands hurt. Your graphics are superb, perspective everything!!
@rombus If you have Go installed you can actually build on Linux, I just don't know how to deploy something for Linux, really, but you could give it a try if you want to. Just "go get github.com/gonutz/ld39", then run "go build" in the source directory and play the game.
That is just in case anybody knows Go or wants to try it out. The game should run on Linux and OS X if you build it there.
Awesome game, had lots of fun playing it. My fingers hurt
A solid entry except my keyboard almost died in the process :p The graphics is great, nicely hand drawn style. The music is simple but fits the game very well. The voice acting makes the characters more alive, just a nice little addition. However I think there is something wrong with the control? I can never manage to get my character to go fast and I'm using a mechanical keyboard so my hand is still really tired from the rapid tapping. And despite all my effort my character still walks very slowly :( Also I hope it didn't need the installer.
I used two hands and still couldn't win :(
@jackyjjc The installer just unzips the .zip content to your hard drive so the game is exactly the same.
One important thing with the keys is that you should alternate between them and not push them at the same time, so push left, release it, push right, release it and do that. Holding down the other key at the same time does not accelerate the guy.
Graphics are unique and I thought the game was pretty funny. I really sucked first couple of times playing but I got the rhythm! I understand the length/difficulty relationship completely, good job on the game!
Cant run on mac but the screenshots I see that the game is excellent :)
@ericquagmire Thanks a lot! If you would want to go the extra mile, I added build instructions to [my github page](https://github.com/gonutz/ld39) and the game should actually be buildable on OS X. All libraries I use allow it, it would be great to have someone try to build it on a Mac, since I don't own one. The Linux instructions should be a good starting point. If you (or anybody else reading this comment) could try it out, that would be awesome. I could add build instructions for OS X then :-)
Not to bore you with what you've already heard, but I too found this game to be very hard. I couldn't get anywhere alternating keys as various speeds. I did okay mashing both buttons, but it was sporadic and I still didn't make it in time when it worked. Finally, I 'cheated' and setup a macro. That got the job done!
Gameplay is a bit thin. I think that just adding a key to actually grab the remote would have helped. It would have given some kind of physical payoff at the end. Kinda like a charge-charge-charge-BURST! feel.
Art and audio are excellent and the game is very charming. I love the character designs and the setting.
Great game! The sound really fits the game and the voiceover is nice.
@ryte2byte actually the grabbing is a very nice idea, I should have thought about that! That would feel like those summer games where you have to speed up running and then at the right moment do the jump :-)
A funny game, with a nice art style. But a bit too difficult for me.
Even if the gameplay is pretty basic the artstyle and setting really make it. Voiceover was the best part. Goddamn Matlock man. BTW I just uploaded the 32-bit build of my game you requested, if you're still looking to check it out.
Funny game with cool graphics. Too difficult though. Congrats on the sound effects!
A great piece of fun but never managed to win. Even with two hands  And why the old man always win? I also wanted to see Grey's Anatomy :yum:
Seriously, cartoon graphics and humour was definitely a good recipe for a great LD39 game. Yours is not running out of fun!
Thanks for the bug report on my game, but I'm not getting any issues myself. I'll look into it but can't promise anything, sorry.
Simple but beautiful. I really like that you put a lot of effort into the graphics. I like the style, remind me of Beavis and Butthead. Funny sfx, though the music could be a little more interesting. Nice mechanic, that you HAVE to alternate keys, otherwise lose momentum. It would have been nice to see and hear the tv be turned on in the end. All in all, great game!
Ohh!! thanks a lot man, I managed to build it on linux. For future reference this is what I did
go get github.com/gonutz/prototype/
go get github.com/go-gl/gl/v2.1/gl
go get github.com/go-gl/glfw/v3.1/glfw
and finally: go build -o breathless_parks
Managed to beat it in the second try B-) I HAVE THE POWEEERRRRRR
I think the game is hilarious, the graphics reminds me of 90's adult tv cartoons haha
Congrats on the game man! really cool entry
BTW: let me know if you want me to send you the linux build I generated
In reply to your answer: The description on github was great, I never used Go so I had to google a bit (my gopath wasn't set and blabla) and I didn't knew that by just go getting the game all the dependencies where taken care of :P but it works great
I had the go compiller installed 'cause I was going to give it a try but never made the time for that, like with a lot of other things too :P
cheers mate!
I don't know how to reach you and don't know if you would look back at my game for a reply so if you can, go read it there please :P
Also, I'll add my review for this in few minutes, gonna try it right away :)
I didn't find gameplay that hard, but I though it was strangely irresponsive. Some times the player character just refused to move, while other he almost started running at full speed from the beggining.
Great combination of art and voice overs! Perhaps because of the name it reminds me of south park.
__Gameplay:__ This game was quite short and there's a lack of replayability, at least for me. But it was really cool concept that was actually original, as many games I've played were just a clones of sort (not that mines better in this regard :D )
__Graphics:__ I really like the graphics! Animations although simplistic felt about right, drawings were kind of cute, I really liked your style. It reminds me of something, but I can't quite tell what :/ (I meant it like the style, not that the art is stolen or something, just to clarify) Also, I didn't seem many people invest time to intro of sorts so Kudos for that too!
__Audio:__ I really liked the voiceover you did :DIt surely made everything more hilarious and helped to build up the mood. Although music would definitely benefitted the game, as they would any other game basically (being it some atmospheric background noise or some real music piece) so I kind of miss this one.
__Overall:__ One of very few games I had played here which made me smile, humor is definitely there. Graphics and audio were really nice, although I missed some background noise or something as I stated. It could have some more depth gameplay wise, as it felt quite short, even for an LD game.
BTW sorry for writting this late, had to do sth really quick, couldn't reply faster :(
I thought graphics were pretty quirky and liked the humor but found the gameplay to be pretty frustrating
Liked the art and the sounds, they really sold it. No replayability, but then this is a LD entry. Maybe making the race a bit longer with a different set of keys to rapidly tap to catch your breath or something? Anyway, nice job!
Haha, incredible visuals and audio! Really fantastic job on that, I can tell that was one of your major focuses for compo. Obviously there's not much gameplay, but it made me laugh and was a good experience while it lasted.
Once I got the controls it was fun! Challenging indeed. Nice humor there. Great entry, good luck! :D
It's fun but really hard. Tried it many times but never won. Otherwise the game looks good and I also like the audio.
The art is so fun, kinda of a south park vibe, really cool, the sounds are good, but I had a hard time playing, was kinda hard and confusing, the controls could be more intuitive, but I really liked, the humor is 5 stars for sure, great game !
Holy crap I couldn't beat it. But I liked the art style and had fun trying to beat that old man, even though I lost everytime. Nice job!
I do indeed have the power! Pretty simple game, but the art and sounds drove it. I like the rendition of the last supper. ;)
@mactinite Nice you noticed the painting, I think it is a catholic retirement home.
I think it's a bit too short, I did beat it on the second try. I expected there to be a next level.. Art style is nice, and good idea though!
Nice game. Great concept. I could not beat the game. My fingers were just to tired. I was never able to get the correct rhythm. I was either going to fast or to slow. I found the other characters were way too fast as well. Good game though. Good Job!
This is hilarious! The sounds effects and the art made for a one-of-a-kind experience. Thanks for you submission! I definitely had a great laugh.
haha you made me bang my keyboard really hard... LOVED the sound effect of the walker, and the art in general. Really unique entry good job!!!
lol. Totally silly. Nice jammie game. I would love some more mini games!
It's funny, and the graphics and audio work very well.
What's there is fun, but I feel it is certainly short to a bit of a fault. The best part was the "I have the poweeeeeeer!!" sound effect XD
First played it with Wine, and that worked except for the Audio. So I built it according to the instructions on your github page and it worked^^
I shouted out loud when I beat it on my second try. Overall a funny little game :D
Haha! Nice game! I like the graphics and the sound! hahaha! One time I almost have had the remote control but all other times I was to slow! haha! :0) And now My hands are to tired. :0)
Wasn't able to get audio with wine and go wouldn't download the source code, I think that my version of gcc is not compatible with go or something. I got this error "/tmp/go-link-113887362/000000.o: file not recognized" running on Arch Linux.
I beat the game! "I have the powerrr~~~" I loved the voices and art in the game, but as mentioned by others, gameplay was a little hard to grasp. I'm not sure if the difficulty decreases the more times you try, but for some reason I hardly moved before my 3-4th try but sped forward on my subsequent tries.
@linus Hi, thanks for trying this out. I am not sure what the problem could be, googling for it shows one unanswered github issue but nothing else for that error message. Are you sure that you have set up everything correctly? Have you used Go before?
@gonutz I got it working on my other Linux machine running Linux Mint without any problems, I just had to set $GOPATH to some directory. I compiled it and I was able to play the game.
Funny game haha. I was too slow to win though, couldn't get the right rhythm but still nice idea. Maybe if there was some sort of visualization so you can see when to press the arrows it would be easier, the instructions arrows seems to not be the right rhythm and I don't know if it's about pressing as fast as possible either.
Graphics and audio was nice, well done. A bit of humour as well, I didn't win the game but listened to win.wav "I have the powaaah.." :p
P.S: Thanks for the feedback on my game also, can't believe you got 59k mass O.o
I beat it!! So funny *and* fun. The visuals are extra nice, I can't believe you had time for all that during the compo, wow <3
**Overall game impression:** Aahhahaha awesome :D the funniest game I played so far from this LDjam xD Epic voice acting and sound effects are hilarious. Game is really good and looks nice, unique and fun. Very good!
**Suggestions and comments on improvement:** Nothing really, the humor, graphics, sound effects and gameplay all fit together perfect and smoothly. Nothing I can think of which would need a change or a fix.
Nice game! I like the art style a lot (reminds me of a cartoon from locomotion) and the sound is good as well. But I didn't managed to get the remote a single time. Gave it some tries before giving up. Great job anyways :D
Really fun game to play, but very short. Graphics looks awesome, sound could be better. Those dialogues vere epic. Great Job!
Fun game, fun, a bit hard to play. I like the fact that you hear people talking ! It's just a bit sad that sound has only 6 notes, also I think graphisms could be improved. Homever it was fun !
I give you all props for the absurdity and a unique take on the theme. Buuuuuuuuut...a little too simple for my taste
OMG! The theme is wonderfully illustrated and I suppose the game rises such an important fact to overthink. Great like for your job!
Couldn't really figure out the rhythm for the keypresses, and it was only got harder as I tried more given how tired my fingers got. Neat take on the theme, though!
Great graphics. Not sure if it's a directional key pressing simulator or an old person simulator. Gameplay feels like punishment. Perhaps you have really captured that experience here. Overall, thumbs up!
Funny concept!
The art and sound effects were great, but I never consistently get the rhythm to work.
It's been a long time since I last saw this type of mechanics. At least there's no joystick to break now :-)
> We should watch Matlock! > No! Grey's Anatomy! Now! > **SQUEAK** **SQUEAK** I will choose!!
Graphics and story was fun. Great work.
SQUEAKY SQUEAKY
i have the powwaahhhhh
Everyone who is saying that the game was too difficult to win needs to just git good! Darn kids...
Lovely voice over. The setting of the game is really funny, and has some cool art doodles.
The gameplay gets a little exhausting after a while because of its difficulty. Glad to finally see a game with a nice sense of humor
This looks like a lot of fun! Any chance for a Mac or web build?
@simonhutchinson if you go to [my github page](https://github.com/gonutz/ld39) I have included Linux build instructions which have worked for a user here in the comments and for my virtual machine. The equivalent instructions should actually work for OS X but since I do not own a Mac I unfortunately cannot check that myself.
If you are willing to go that extra mile, I would really appreciate if you could try to build on Mac and let me know what you had to do so that I can update my page with OS X build instructions.
All you should need is install [the Go programming language](https://golang.org/dl/), set your GOPATH environment variable and I assume you already have XCode installed, for C depedencies.
The libraries I am using should all work fine on OS X, I use [GLFW](https://github.com/go-gl/glfw) which states "On macOS, you need Xcode or Command Line Tools for Xcode (xcode-select --install) for required headers and libraries.". With that you should probably be able to run the same instructions as on Linux.
It would be really cool if you could help me out here, I would really appreciate it! :-)
I liked the idea, it was so funny. But was so hard and my fingers got tired ! I liked the art style, and the sound of "twinky, twinky" . Great entry !
I LOVE this hand-drawn style. Not that I don't love pixel art, but this is kind of a refreshing change. I like the simplicity of the controls too, but it's exhausting! And my poor keyboard!
Overall, really nice work, especially for 48 hours. Great entry!
@simonhutchinson Thanks for the great feedback! So you got it to work on OS X? That is cool news, can you tell me what you did exactly so that I can update my github instructions?
Oh man, being old is hard. :)
I did not win and got tired on the third run. It's actually easier just to stay at the start and breathe. Not so heavily at least as when you move. :D
The art and audio feet the gameplay, reinforcing this feeling of oldness.
Thanks for the game!
Funny voice acting! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtKz5DBYziE
