It's definitely a flappy bird. Because it's so heavily focused on the collision detection it doesn't feel like the resources are what matters. I'm not totally sure level 3 is beatable, you can't burn through the wall with full energy, there's probably something I'm missing but I found it frustrating. Certainly more addicting than I expected but that's sorta the genre.

Gave some minutes of fun. Level 3 is a little hard, but is definitely beatable. Don't know if there is much more to be explored in this concept, tho. Good entry!

Nice game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Upb0aA4TPRk

Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone! Thanks especially @jupiter-hadley for the inclusion in your video series. I feel like there is no substitute for putting a game in someone's hands to see what works and what doesn't.

From the feedback I've gotten from you and watching friends in-person, it definitely ramps up too quickly in a way that is more "frustrating-hard" than "fun-hard." A big part of that is due to the constraints of LD 39 and only having time to put together 3 levels. I wanted to show how the two abilities I have so far could be combined in ways that are both tricky to execute and tricky to think through. Level 3 definitely is beatable, but it does require some planning and execution.

@eric-florio: I'm hoping with the inclusion of two more abilities, different types of obstacles, and a better difficulty curve that I'll be able to explore it for a 20-25 level mobile game, maybe with an "endless" mode. Hopefully it holds up for that, but I definitely agree that it would get stale quickly in it's current state.

Definitly too hard for me. But you have an interesting concept here, maybe you should explore it further. :)

I think there is way too little gravity, the walk cycle is nice tho

I had a lot of fun playing this game! It reminds me a lot of a mobile game I used to play called Mr. Jump. Thought difficult, I enjoyed the gameplay. And great job with the particle effects. An idea I had is to include a death counter; that would be cool to see. Thanks for your submission!

Fun and simple, good job.

I thought the graphics are really nice, and I like the idea of being a superhero. Sadly I found the gameplay a much too frustrating for my tastes.

A very nice concept this. Even I, runners aren't my thing, found this fun to play. Power management adds a lot to the otherwise simple running and jumping.

The graphics and audio are the weakest link here. Neither is very pleasant so that's something to improve for the future version.

The superhero theme gives you a lot of material to work with. Eye-lazors and air-jumping are just the tip of the iceberg: teleportation, shape shifting, invisibility (to avoid enemy attacks for instance), shields; the possibilities for different mechanics and levels are huge.

Good job so far. Hopefully you take this far too.

Neat! I'm not a big flappy-bird fan, so maybe I'm not the target audience here. I do like that you took that as your base and altered it significantly, though. I feel like the music maybe should have been a bit more heart-pumping, but, for a compo entry, having music at all is huge! Nice work!

Nice job, ah superstuff's old arch nemesis, low ceilings. I think it'd be nice to have a reticule where I'm aiming, but i get on a mobile device it'd probably just be directly click based.

The gameplay is simple but thhe difficulty is challenging and it is interesting to choose between laser or jump to pass an obstacle. It would be nice to have sound effect when you jump/shoot laser.

taras 2017-08-13 20:21

It is probably because i have never player runners, but i enjoyed the run and shoot laser mechanics alot, despite all it's simplicity. Really made me restart when i failed and not "just close the game and get over with grading". Also, music is very good - fits the mood.
