LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Draw by LukeZaz 2017-08-14T14:43:43Z

You've got a good foundation here to build on. I didn't feel like I was ever in real danger though because the enemies don't spawn that quickly and I am much faster than them. It would be nice if shoot was on left-click too.

King of Mithril by wan 2017-08-18T17:37:38Z

Cool Game!

The music was great! The transitions felt kind of abrupt though, especially when you trigger multiple music changes really quickly.

The movement and jumping does feel a little floaty. Good mix of stealth and combat. The goblins could attack a bit faster though, or their movement could be a bit quicker.

One possible error I encountered: After I followed the bottom fork at the trident, in the second combat area the two goblins were shielded when I think they shouldn't have been (I played through again and they didn't have shields). I got around the gate with a precision jump, but I don't think that's what you intended.

Great work.

Ardis Mobile Mission by Franklins Ghost 2017-08-20T00:03:25Z

This is a great piece. Love the style and animation. I never felt like I had enough time to explore but it was nice doing it.

SQUADS by PixelProductions 2017-08-17T15:43:30Z

I played the Mac version and it worked for me :) This game has a great feel to it - shooting all those bullets and grenades is a lot of fun. I also liked the two part gameplay where you have to recharge your mech when it goes down. I do wish the enemies could be killed faster because some parts feel like a slog - also I couldn't shoot those flying enemies for the life of me. I had to use all my grenades to destroy them.

Neuropower by klianc09 2017-08-16T15:11:36Z

Cool game! There is something beautiful about these networks - like creating constellations in the sky. The tutorial was a great addition, I do wish it wouldn't appear for subsequent plays. This game would be lovely with a nice ambient soundtrack - something inspired by Carbon Based Lifeforms would be perfect: https://goo.gl/dmx3vC (I guess I could just play that as I play!)

Supernode by Dustyroom 2017-08-11T18:10:12Z

Beautiful and minimal game. Would be a great game to play on mobile.

Nuclear Arms 4: Fallout of The Mountain King by Logicon211 2017-08-11T16:44:01Z

Top marks for humour! I enjoyed the silly intro sequence, characters and sound effects. There's a real charm to its presentation and I found the gameplay fun and chaotic.

A few small critiques: Visually, I find the ground and background do not contrast enough making it hard to tell them apart some times. Some of then explosion sound effects played too loud - maybe they were stacked on each other. Also when I died there was an amount of time where I was still moving around as an invisible character.

Great job!

Artax by Flaterectomy 2017-08-18T22:58:16Z

Lovely pixel art and audio and an excellent use of the theme to power your gameplay. Loved the details like those little birds that fly away when you get near to them. I did feel like some parts were quite punishing - even the first platforming section felt frustrating after missing the jumps a few times. Otherwise great job!

Rocket Rescue by automatonvx 2017-08-14T15:16:01Z

hey nice job, there's some good stuff going on here! I think it's been mentioned but I wish the jetpack was more responsive. Also when I first got to the caged animal (at each level's end) I thought it was draining my energy, I tried to fight it the next time before realizing it was on my side.

COAL by beta 2017-08-15T19:19:06Z

There are some good ideas here and I liked the chaos that was created through all the objects bouncing around. As other people have mentioned I found the controls hard to manage - I wonder if there are some other control approaches that could be tried. Well done putting it all together though!

Devious Plant Commando by Marcenat 2017-08-17T14:58:46Z

I enjoyed this! I didn't read the description until I came back to this page so I was constantly running out of ammo, doh! I liked the pixel graphics and and the gurgly sound effects the plants make. The gun sounds were too loud though and I had to turn the volume way down. Getting the flamethrower was exciting - kind of wish it had a more intense sound effect.

Classic Games: Getting On by loveapplegames 2017-08-14T20:24:38Z

Hey this was great! I give mad ratings to any game with drugs use :D I particularly liked how you used the theme by framing these games within a handheld console running out of juice. Clever!

Power Chase by Thinkofname 2017-08-11T17:00:44Z

Hey neat game :)

Real nice use of the theme - I like how you can see the green power draining in the environment after you remove the battery. It's always nice to see elements like that shown naturally in the game rather than through UI.

I thought the shadow effects and graphics were nice as well!

I did feel like the movement was a bit janky, something felt a bit jittery about the jumps and I continued to feel that wall jumping was difficult. The game became really punishing when I reached the saw-blades, that caused me to give up.

nice work!

The Crown Prince by Baby Dino Herd 2017-08-15T21:51:57Z

A unique and interesting concept, although hard to understand at first. I think there is potential here :)

PoweRL by Steve Johnson 2017-08-10T23:59:54Z

Really enjoyed this one! The sounds and music were quite compelling and I think you made the right choice updating the graphics - your pixel art has a charm that is missing from the vector version. The gameplay works well and has definite 868 feel.

Starfield by Zachary Burkett 2017-08-14T15:06:12Z

That spaceship is so cute! I really like the visuals for planets and stars as well. The music seemed to cut out sometimes for me but maybe that was just the web version.

Last Shine by Fran Segura 2017-08-17T15:10:15Z

Lovely art and sound. It was a great little experience to play through and the ending was touching. I did feel like I was getting rocked in the combat without much that I could do (thank god for continue) so that was a bit frustrating. Very impressive that you were able to put all that together for the jam though.

The Little Miner by vipbasil 2017-08-15T22:16:41Z

Hey nice job. I liked the graphics - especially the ship and floaty particle clouds. I'm also impressed you were able to put in a whole upgrade system into the game. It was confusing figuring out what I needed to be doing at first and the controls screen is a lot to take in.

Battery of Power by Belga54 2017-08-14T14:17:34Z

Hey nice job! I dig the pixel art characters! I didn't realize that my shots were draining the battery until I read the comments - now my deaths make a lot more sense. Maybe making the battery bar longer could help so you can see how shots drain energy from it. I found the sound effects kind of unpleasant, especially the battery pickup sound - it's a bit piercing.

Mech by widdershinscrustacean 2017-08-15T19:03:05Z

I really enjoyed this! I thought the controls worked quite well and I feel that the confined space of the mech helps tell a focused story. The characters seemed friendly and the colour changes were impactful. It would be nice if there was more hints on what this conflict was about and who you are.

Encounters by Valphera 2017-08-14T14:34:46Z

hey well done! I really like the premise of this one and the weird world you have created. The experience felt very complete and was a good length for a jam game. I kind of wish there was some display of the number of credits I had collected.

Exocharge Infinite by Karnage Studios 2017-08-16T14:52:14Z

This game is a lot of fun! The visuals and feel of the shooting and dashing are superb. As people have mentioned falling feels frustrating. Also I was never really aware of my energy level - it seems like you have some cool ideas there but I never felt much of a difference when I was low energy and most things that killed me were one-hit kills anyway.

Owld by TeddyDD 2017-08-15T19:41:26Z

I survived the flood! Nice job on this one, I liked the being an owl and flying around :D I feel that most of the wood I caught was kind of random, maybe just reducing its fall speed could help out.

Power Dronomics by BrazMogu 2017-08-19T23:53:08Z

I think there are some really neat ideas here. Charging up defenses around battery sources was a great use of the theme but I find the game moves achingly slow. I spend a lot of time waiting while the drone regenerates energy or charges a defense. I wonder what it would be like if the game was twice as fast. I like the visuals and sound.

Electric Castle by Mr Marcgenesis 2017-08-17T15:25:40Z

Nice little platformer! You do a great job explaining the game in the early levels - that's great to have in a jam game. The boing boing level was super hard but I managed to beat it and then the mirror level was trivial... not sure what thats about. You've got some great mechanics to play with in this game though, I see a lot of interesting levels being possible.

DRAIN by LERPish 2017-08-11T17:18:54Z

cute little game! I enjoyed the 3d characters and swinging my sword around! Makes me wish there were some other ways to attack groups of enemies without just feverishly slashing at them.

I couldn't tell what right-click was doing until I checked the controls screen - I wonder if there is some way to highlight the slowing of time.

電源 (dengen) by hndmrsh 2017-08-16T15:30:29Z

Great little strategy game here. The clean visuals and simple mechanics combine to create a lot of depth. I'm interested to figure out what the winning strategies are. Small note: is there a way to restart the game after someone wins? Would be nice to have one without refreshing the browser.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Angstrom Interactive Private Beta by mindfungus 2017-12-05T02:18:01Z

@konomizure builds just went up!

LD42 — Running out of space

Cronus' Tomb 2 by Mr_Field 2018-08-17T01:21:14Z

it was a lot of fun! very hard, we didn't manage to find any clues. the visuals and audio were great! it felt very punishing to revive at 1hp, since visiting the town makes the fog advance.

it's very easy to accidentally quit by hitting escape, unfortunately

great work overall!

sploreBB by mindfungus 2018-08-17T02:54:03Z

apologies for the technical issues, we uploaded the wrong file the first time.

it should work now!! thank you for trying.

Just Balloon: Move or Lose edition 3 by zeu31 2018-08-17T01:36:14Z

it was fun, i would have liked a smoother difficulty curve. i didn't use the repel button, only the attract one. i liked the visuals!

good job on the jam!

Keyboard warrior by ango97 2018-08-17T02:11:51Z

this was great! I really enjoyed the animations and the overall aesthetic. kept on searching my keyboard for the right keys. smart interpretation of the theme! good job!

Gardian by D1gital Cuts 2018-08-17T02:39:43Z

it's beautiful! I enjoyed figuring out what the different flowers were doing, and even if for some i was still unsure, i was able to get through a number of levels. i stopped a few levels after the teleport flowers were introduced. the music is also very good! the hint stars were crucial! thanks for including those

Drying Up by Allenial 2018-08-17T01:30:04Z

It took me a bit to get used to the controls, but once i did i had fun looking for things. The fast camera movement was a little uncomfortable, but there were nice places to find in the environment! When the water gets low enough it's hard to avoid touching it accidentally.

It would be amazing to have a mouse-invert-y-axis option.

Good job!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Bradley's Little Money Maker by Franklins Ghost 2019-05-20T02:21:26Z

Awesome design and colours. The animations are fantastic and humourous. Didn't really understand how he was making money, but I made it to the goal! Solid entry.

APIS by Zarkonnen 2019-05-17T15:42:40Z

Well thought out concept! The cycle of harvesting nearby flowers and then moving the queen to a new grove works well. The buzzing becomes a bit much but what more can I expect: they ARE bees! :D

Meat Mountain by gamechoy 2019-05-17T20:27:39Z

Love the spooky red and black with that brooding soundtrack. Great creep characters too! Gives a real Binding of Isaac vibe. I was unsure how the combat worked so I ended up mashing a lot of buttons to beat enemies, some instructions + feedback could help a lot here.

Human, your life is currency by asfdfdfd 2019-05-17T14:36:14Z

Hey some real nice art and animation here. I liked the soundtrack too. Getting game over as soon as I was seen felt really punishing to me, especially when the human was offscreen. I'm not really sure what I can do to get better or get close enough to punch.

Cat Outta Hell by tifu 2019-05-17T14:59:55Z

Some clever ideas here! Love the trade off of spending lives to get power ups that can help you on the run. I think using the 9 lives of a cat to justify it is smart too! I struggled with some of the hitboxes for certain platforms but the checkpoints were great!

HeartLess by cdunham 2019-05-17T14:31:34Z

Hey interesting card game! Teaches you a lot about the value of your life vs damage vs card draw. I can see there being a fair amount of depth here when you really start to dig into it. Building up hand size early seems like it can give you a lot of value to attack later when you make multiple hits under increased damage. I'm curious what strategies you've found.

Liquify Bo! by GaryS 2019-05-17T20:35:20Z

Very cool concept and nice use of the theme! There's a good set of levels to get through and the platforming simplicity really helps show off the unique mechanic. It would be nice to have some more control over how the jump works since it is always the same distance of jump when pressed.

Mojo by rEaX 2019-05-17T20:14:50Z

Hey cool entry! The graphics are really nice, the enemy characters look good and the magic effects are cool. Paying for upgrades with health is nice but it seems like you get the health back so quickly from killing enemies that its not much of a cost. It took awhile to find the last boss but I was able to kill him easily.

Little Robot by Waveform Modulations 2019-05-21T18:13:02Z

As people have mentioned, the mouse sensitivity is a bit much! Otherwise, controls are decent. However, I noticed that when idling after some gameplay, Little Robot was still moving ever-so-slightly to the left. Could be an issue on my side, though. Took me a little while to get the hang of combat - I feel like the plasma gun is not dealing the kind of damage I'd hoped - some robots only take one hit, but others take multiple? Is that to do with the hitboxes, or maybe it's for the sake of balancing? The jetpack felt very useful, both in navigating the environment as well as dodging unwanted combat. Overall an interesting premise, nice work! PS, the music is very fitting!

Mind Over Matter by MZA 2019-05-17T15:10:10Z

Very interesting! I loved the art direction you took with this, the shades of red black and grey create a compelling mood. I had trouble telling what things would hurt me or not though, it may help to mark those with a clearly identifiable color or pattern. I also love the concept of representing mental afflictions through camera/gameplay changes, and collecting them over time as you die. Nice entry!

Moon Miner by FROG5TAR 2019-05-17T20:45:11Z

Hey cool game! The 3D blocky world and characters are fun. I did feel like things were happening quite slowly (even if it is on the moon). Maybe the mining could take less time? The enemies also feel a bit slow and don't pose much of a threat. Well featured game though! there's a lot here that could be built up.

Life Broker by wowbagger 2019-05-17T14:17:53Z

This was hilarious. Love the little characters, the voice over and all the background chatter. I did find it pretty difficult to get life value out of investing, especially because I was getting swarmed all the time and didn't know if the stocks would go up or down. Nice use of the theme!

BloodVirus by Team-on 2019-05-17T15:53:44Z

Wow I'm always blown away that people build RTS games in the jam. Seems like there is a lot going on here too but I did struggle to understand what to do. Digging the floating eyeballs though :)

also the "How To Play" button wasn't working for me.

Servant to the Reaper by MediocreMonty 2019-05-17T14:48:18Z

Wow nice job! feels fully realized! I liked the pixel art characters a lot. As other comments have mentioned, it did feel like it takes too long to slash somebody to death with the scythe. I also didn't find much use for the disguises, instead found myself just running around slashing everybody and avoiding cops.

Token Life by PixelMeal 2019-05-17T15:22:43Z

What a charming little experience! It says a lot about human life with an unassuming simplicity that is really pleasing. A bit of SFX would go a long way to bring the materiality of the box to life. Also I'm not sure the WASD movement is necessary, having a zoom on mouse-scroll that could see all the box when expanded may be all that's needed.

The Soul Broker by soundgnome 2019-05-20T01:38:33Z

really enjoyed the game! awesome sound effects and interesting animation, especially when possessing the golem! controls were a bit tricky. i didn't really feel there was any sense of danger that my essence would run out before reaching the end of the level. nice game overall and cool take on the concept of the jam.

The Ball's Path by EricRou 2019-05-17T14:09:42Z

Hey nice job! I really like how you the tutorial leads you into the game, the text is great! I did struggle going through it again after falling off - checkpoints would help here. Also I believe I had an issue where pressing G did not shoot as I expected.

Passold by Cyrolis 2019-05-17T20:22:28Z

neat game! I like the black/white palette and moving backgrounds. It took me a while to figure out how the upgrades worked. Also having jump on spacebar would be helpful.
