LD39 — Running out of Power

Crazy Squirrels by IgorsGames 2017-07-31T13:28:47Z

The mechanic is cool, the little story too. The movement is not easy to master but it is fun.

Wired Game by zzq 2017-07-31T10:01:41Z

Really cool puzzle platformer, the idea is original and the level design sells it well. Sometimes I get stuck between two platforms (the character is a bit too big maybe ?), but the overall experience was great.

Unpowerer by Garywiss 2017-08-01T11:59:52Z

Wow there is definetly a lot of Metroid inspiration :)

The idea is great : first I found it very easy but then I understand the concept and the last battle wasn't easy. A few things could really make the game shine : - the jump physic is a bit floaty - there is no invulnerability frame - the charge attack of the boss is not telegraphed, making it a bit frustrating With those little changes, and sounds :) this could be a really cool Metroid style game.

Well done.

Last Sunset by piscythe 2017-07-31T09:51:33Z

Great game ! I especially like that the light fade with your power. However maybe there are not enough powerup, I ran quickly out of power and was never able to refill it.

The Power of Hove by bentglasstube 2017-08-17T10:59:09Z

Nice game, the concept is well used with a variety of platforming section (long jump, precise jump, bunch of little platforms... and so on). The art reminds the 8-bit era pretty well. The only drawbacks are the lack of music and restart button.

Well done :)

Shipbuilder by Emil Sunesson 2017-07-31T13:24:09Z

Being able to build the ship is a really nice idea ! Too bad there is no sound...

The Phototroph by foolmoron 2017-07-31T13:36:45Z

The adaptive soundtrack is great, the game is gorgeous, but it lacks something to motivate the player, every planet is the same

The Bellwether Incident by juxipolo 2017-07-31T22:07:38Z

I have the following error : File loading error: base/font/medium bold

Ionium by broken-matrix 2017-08-01T10:19:00Z

Interesting concept, I like code base puzzle. There is a lot of text to read and I'm not sure to understand what is the projector for. Nice work though.

Tesla Defence by Sun-Wukong 2017-08-01T10:47:34Z

The game works well, I can see what it could become with more time. Very nice graphics by the way.

no bullets by cpcrabs 2017-07-31T21:21:36Z

Nice work. The enemies have maybe too many health points (I die very quickly because killing an enemy means losing a lot of life)

Race To The End by nam 2017-07-31T21:33:13Z

Nice work. I don't really get what is the torch for.

Burnup Blade by DragonZBW 2017-08-01T09:32:55Z

Awesome animation and particle effect. It would have been nice to have immortal time after being hit.

Metal Behemoth by spliter 2017-08-01T09:42:52Z

Great animation, it really feel like controlling a giant robot (with the heavy footstep sound, the camera shake...). The concept is cool, my only complaint is that it's too easy (the tank firerate is a bit slow). Also there is a blank at the end of the music so when it loops there is no music for like 10 seconds.

Robogod by multiplexor 2017-08-01T09:54:50Z

Nice concept, love the humour and the puns in the robots' name. It could be a little faster though. The music is cool too, made feel like a giant disco ball :)

Devious Plant Commando by Marcenat 2017-07-31T12:57:00Z

I've made a mistake on the linux build but it's too late to upload a new one, sorry for the inconvenience

Devious Plant Commando by Marcenat 2017-07-31T13:48:51Z

For the gun sounds I've slammed my doors and then apply some filters in audacity. The plant sounds are me grumbling in my mic, and the others are made with Bfxr. The music was composed with musescore 2

Devious Plant Commando by Marcenat 2017-07-31T20:58:03Z

OK thank you gagapete I will upload a linux build then

Cave torch and black screen for ludum dare 39 by mat1er 2017-07-31T13:19:42Z

Nice Concept it fits the theme perfectly, it's a bit too hard for though ^^

Robot Is Powerless by Swynfel 2017-08-01T12:11:25Z

Cool concept, and nice tutorial ! It teaches the mechanic very well.

- The mechanics fit the theme. - The music does the job, maybe the game lacks some audio feedback when you move or wait (or get killed). - The graphics are pretty

Good job !

PowerPath by Robin Komen 2017-08-17T14:16:35Z

Nice idea, the level transition were smooth. Maybe when you restart a level pressing start should skip the path animation because it's annoying to wait for the path to show up again before trying again to follow it. I would also have made the current square in a different color so that the player know were he is.

Blocks of Power by mortus 2017-07-31T21:44:15Z

Nice game, the controls are weird but I like it, it feels like controlling a heavy ship. The build system is original but a bit annoying because you can't add the parts where you want and have to precisely place them.

Blackout by 100th_Coin 2017-07-31T09:32:36Z

Wow that was fun ! The adaptative sountrack is super cool, I particularly the enemy design. What item does is a bit unclear because of the (cool) mess in the game, but it was fun anyway.

Space Shooter by Chris_Grassi 2017-07-31T22:23:12Z

The ship feels a bit too slow, and I always get killed in one shot, which is frustrating. However the graphics are gorgeous.

Grimstation by mophs 2017-07-31T13:43:35Z

Wow I'm impressed by the graphics. There really is an atmosphere, too bad the gameplay isn't finish (but I can see the idea)

The Defective One by gagapete 2017-07-31T09:44:49Z

Cool concept, however the character is a bit too slow and a visual and audio feedback when you suck energy would have been great. The graphics are cool.

Siphon With Style by quantumpotato 2017-07-31T13:06:25Z

The game is cool (but lack audio), it's hard to read and play at the same time but it's a short game so I've tried multiple times ^^

Pylon Defense by Doc ill 2017-07-31T09:39:45Z

The concept is cool, but having several types of tower would have help the idea of losing power to shine.

Asteroid Miner by Roka Josh 2017-07-31T22:02:22Z

The music isn't too loud, and is pretty cool by the way :) Nice work, the controls feel great.

Turrets Turrets by ryzy27 2017-08-01T11:44:32Z

There are some good ideas, especially the drawbacks on every upgrades, it makes the choice of upgrade very strategic. The game is nicely polished, it just lacks some music and soud effect when you choose an upgrade or build a tower. The gameplay is pretty well balanced, which is hard for a tower defense game so well done.

Rogue AI by jbasinger 2017-07-31T13:57:59Z

I like the text of the robots when you free them. I agree bullets could be more visible. Nice game.

Cannon Ships by chuckeles 2017-08-17T13:56:50Z

Probably the best idea I have seen so far. Do you know the youtube channel Game Maker's Toolkit ? Last month he created a jam and the theme was pretty much much what you are doing here : combine mechanics to do more with less. So moving by shooting is a nice idea, and the energy depletion forces you to behave agresssively and destroy other ships to get their power. I have some remarks though: - The ship doesn't move much when you shoot so you can't really control it, it is for instance nearly impossible to go on the oposite direction. - Taking power supply makes a collision and changes your trajectory, maybe it is intended but I found it a bit strange (I would have use triggers instead of plain collision) - The bullets gets their parent velocity, which is physically acurate but not pleasant in game, it makes aiming at other ships very hard. I think those little changes would make the game a lot better to play.

Anyway, great job :)

Flappy Jet by Henry Sneed 2017-07-31T13:11:45Z

The level design makes the game super hard, but the idea is there

Getting Darker by evanmhm 2017-07-31T14:05:41Z

Nice game. I was able to take the elevator with only two switches... but the graphics are cool (I like the camera shake when you get hit or when you fire). It lack sounds to really emphasize the gameplay.

Soulviver by Wabble 2017-07-31T09:23:23Z

I like the humor of the introduction, and the die an retry style. The game is hard though ! It is also a good idea to change weapon because it change the timing of your attack. The music is cool too.

Power Loss by Pixel Programmer 2017-07-31T10:08:26Z

The graphics are great, too bad there is no music to give energy to the game. It doesn't seem to fit the theme since energy here is just life point ? (but who cares the theme is just here to help).

Mr Shoopashoop Is Not Very Smart by isolea 2017-08-01T10:02:38Z

Nice concept, there is an atmoshpere. Somtimes the gaps are too big to jump over (or I missed a long jump control ?). Putting the controls in the game or in the description would be nice though. Good work anyway.

Steal their power by Kaje Cimhael 2017-07-31T22:14:25Z

Great ! I love stealth game. The mechanics are clear and the controls nice, so it was fun.

Awesome Saucer by bhos01 2017-08-01T10:25:51Z

Wow that's hard ! The red gun drain so much energy, I only use the blue one. But ther is maybe too many enemies.

Low Voltage by raiann 2017-08-01T12:29:18Z

Nice concept, it is difficult indeed :)

LD42 — Running out of space

Galactic Wars by jondalnas 2018-08-22T20:38:40Z

I like the arcade theme, the graphics are nice too, some simple geometry and lights are enough to convey the idea. The sound however gets annoying pretty quickly. I'm not a fan of this type of controls, I cannot maneuver y ship like I want: for instance the up arrow (or W) always make the ship go toward the direction it is currently facing, this is counterintuitive for me. I prefer traditional controls scheme where up makes you go up whatever direction your facing, but this means you cannot fire in any direction. Games like Binding of Isaac handles it by giving a bit of the character velocity to the bullet he is firing, so you can fire in almost any direction. But I'm not really complaining, just trying to give you other options :) Also the games lack a few more mechanics (but that's a jam), items or type of ship / asteroids. Anyway, great job :)

Ultimate Cave Of Dangers by gaspard 2018-08-21T09:55:44Z

Same as @batmanasb the game is hardly playable for me, everything goes way to fast, and the control are sloppy. Also in a platformer, especially when you have to wall jump, putting the jump button on up arrow is cruel, space is way better. Also when I die I have to shut down the game to start again (looking to your code I don't see any gameflow code, I guess you ran out of time). That being said the idea is cool, and the audio too :)

Running Out of Space by karmo 2018-08-21T10:27:28Z

Well I'm stuck in the friend's house, the sister won't let me pass... I love text adventures games, but I agree with @polyducks the player is lost too soon. The map is a great idea though. I think music has his place even in this type of game, but maybe you didn't have the time.

TuaCheap7 by josemachado 2018-08-18T20:41:47Z

I love the idea, and the experimental feel of the game, having no win state and relying only on the humour en joy of discovery is a very ballsy move. However it lack consistency: * The graphics on the menu and on the rest of the game doesn't fit * Same for the audio, the menu theme has nothing to do with the Bossa nova (and having music only on the shop room is a bit frustrating. Did you actually make this Bossa nova theme ? I love it. Anyway, very original idea :)

Space Race by Raziyya 2018-08-18T10:38:22Z

Nice use of the theme, I agree with the above suggestion : making the color permanent could be fun. The glitch in movement are a bit frustrating, as is the respawn location which is often to close from enemies. The sound made by the tile when you step on them is a bit annoying too, but that's ok. End my last complaint will be that the movement is not discrete, the character doesn't snap on a tile, so the control does not feel precise (but maybe it's just me). But all those are minor drawbacks, the game is very enjoyable :) Graphics are nice and fits the arcade mood. Good job !

Eclipse Galaxy : A Smuggler Story by chadrbanks 2018-08-21T12:28:23Z

It seems that a lot of things are missing, but I can see the idea. When I press accept on the cantina nothing happen. Also there is no text to explain what you can buy, so I kinda try everything without knowing what is what, I ended up running out of fuel not knowing how to refill it. Graphics are amazing, but lack consistency: the ships are pixel art, and the background on the planet are beautiful high res digital painting. There was no audio but I see you didn't opt out of the category, so is it a bug or did you forget to opt out ? Also when hovering on a ship or planet, the sprite and the box collider goes up so if the mouse is at the edge the whole thing jitter (that's a minor bug though, but easy to fix). Anayway, keep up the good work :)

Eclipse Galaxy : A Smuggler Story by chadrbanks 2018-08-22T09:46:55Z

@chadrbanks I'v played the delta it's indeed much better :) You can still run out of fuel pretty quickly, but I did not feel too lost in the game. The button sound is a bit too aggressive as far as I'm concerned.

Memory Mayhem by ZuhairGhias 2018-08-21T13:05:18Z

Hurrah a game about cache and processor, I was looking for it (the heme made me think about that so I was sure someone did it) but did not expect such a clever mechanic. This is by far the most innovative and well design mechanic I've seen in this LD. It's fun to play until the end, I was blaming myself when I did integer overflow :) So from a design perspective it's great, such a shame your team did not follow you on this one, the result would have been incredible. The only complaint I could make is that the difficulty does not seems to increase over time (or very slowly ?), this could help to keep the player in the flow. Graphics get the job done, audio too. Great job!

(Also that game over sound got me, it is just perfect)

Falloor by Madamin_Z 2018-08-15T13:53:24Z

Cool concept but a bit under-exploited, the falling block are merely affecting the gameplay, as the level design does not push you to go back on your path. I think that the difficulty ramps up a little to fast, you could introduce the new mechanic in a small level before combining it in a more complex one.

Little Bear Planet by gudval 2018-08-17T14:59:44Z

@velvetlobster I think you are talking about *Stephen Sausage's Roll*. Yes in the middle of the dev I realized the similarity :) The movement with the box is the same, but use in a different way here, as the main issue is "how" to turn, whereas in Sausage Roll the focus is more on "where" to turn.

Little Bear Planet by gudval 2018-08-21T12:13:19Z

@hauo I made several iterations on the controls and I'm not fully satisfied, but keyboard is simply not the best choice for rotation: the problem with only two buttons, one for left and one for right, is that it works only when your character is facing down. If it is facing up your expectations are reversed (you hit right to go left). So I did a couple of playtests with two and four buttons, and four buttons wins: basically two buttons leads to 50% wrong hit, whereas four buttons leads to 25% which is not perfect either.

Little Bear Planet by gudval 2018-08-21T13:10:59Z

@lekkel124 Thank you ! Yes we put a lot of effort making the game seamlessly transitioned from the tutorial part to the real levels. About the move system it is definitively a bug, it shouldn't increase when you try to do an incorrect move, I didn't notice it so thanks for pointing it out :)

Little Bear Planet by gudval 2018-08-22T18:14:56Z

@rik-thunder thank you :) Having a video of you playing help a lot to see what works and what doesn't (obviously the turn control are a little weird at first, as others have pointed out)

Little Bear Planet by gudval 2018-08-24T17:56:06Z

@omiya-games it's more of an Easter egg than a real level :) Thanks for playing !

Space Farmer by TalesOfPixelia 2018-08-21T10:06:51Z

The idea is great, however There is something missing in the design to push the player to stay on a planet. I can reach earth by just harvesting some yellow crop and launch as fast as possible to the next planet. I guess the number of person you saved and the number you ate act as a score. Also the game pace is a bit to fast, there is no tutorial phase. The audio and graphics are cool though, I think that if you tweak the mechanics a little the game could be very enjoyable.

How to please a Dragon by Kruemelkatze 2018-08-18T20:13:57Z

Nice idea, but a few things get in the way of the fun: * The rage-o-meter should be on the UI, the player is quite lost when he has to make a choice, as he doesn't know if he is going to get eaten by the dragon or not * The moment the choices appear seems to be random, so I was founding myself waiting for it when all my containers were full * In the end the player just spam space and wait for a choice

However: * Graphics are stunning (though the player animation could be less stiff * Audio doesn't get annoying even after a while, and the coin sound is very realistic * The theme is well-used, the dragon cavern stuff fits perfectly * Humour is on the spot, the dragon dialogue are very funny (especially the never gonna give you up ^^) Keep up the good job

Running Out Of Space by AdmiralSpaceKraken 2018-08-15T13:19:37Z

Simple but efficient concept, here are some thought: * The movement is a little "sloppy", maybe use Input.GetAxisRaw method in your PlayerDirector.cs script, this should makes the control snappier * Being able to jump over two boxes high only is a bit frustrating as a wall of three boxes will often build very quickly somewhere, trapping you in a corner of the level. * Having some item dropping like coins, to jump higher or destroy blocks, could diversify the gameplay (but I know there is little time in a jam)

Anyway, keep up the good job :)

Hot News, Good News by RiptideStudio 2018-08-21T12:43:13Z

Love the concept, though it get a bit repetitive. I don't really get what the glue mechanic is for: I have to place an item definitively in order to have the next, but the next item is random so I cannot plan my moves. I would have let the player choose as many item as he wants and then let him place them, or i would have show him the next item (like in tetris). The graphics are nice and consistent (this is important) from the menu to the game itself. Audio is nice and soft, the music i indeed relaxing an don't get repetitive. Overall, this is a nice entry :)

LD44 — Your life is currency

Pulsation by stevenjmiller 2019-05-01T12:41:34Z

Awesome mechanic, I love puzzle games like this. It was very well executed, I play until the end :)

The concept is well introduced, the difficulty curve well crafted, and the the new mechanics were introduced gradually, so overral the level design is solid, and reminds me of Braid, in the way elements are placed juuuust in the right spot to annoy you :)

Graphics are minimal, but do the job, same for the audio, many games have annoying bip when you move/jump, here it is subtle enough. For the graphics I would like to point out that even if they are simple, they do convey all the information needed (the two cricles, the remaining pulse...) in a clear and consistent way, which is very rare in LD game. Moreover I love the little "destructive pulse" effect at the end of a level.

The theme is a not really used, but can't blame you it is a bit too restrictive.

So, cool game dude :)

Catiro by Riftpoint Entertainment 2019-04-30T20:43:37Z

That was sooo cool, I love the mix here, and it is executed very well ! * Graphics are reaaly cool and selling th mood * Audio is great, from the music to the sound effect (awesome "cling" sound on the block) * The tutoriel ârt is really appreciated given the difficulty of the game :) My only complain is that the attack have there own rythm, they do no seem to be in sync with the beat (I mean they keep the same phase, but one cannot rely on the music beat to react, the ratio is just too strange)

MAX PAYIN' by praleks 2019-04-30T19:50:07Z

Nice idea it made me laught when I understood that "pay with your life" was literal. However it does not really help the rest of the gameplay, which is quite difficult. The music is cool, but covered by too much bullet sound.

In The Devil's House by Marcenat 2019-05-01T13:17:38Z

@xahell thanks for the feedback :)

yeah I agree knocbback on enemies would be nice, sometimes you can end up beaten to death against a wall by little slime. For camera shake I did have a script, but disable it because I hadn't time to tweak it and it was a bit too much.

In The Devil's House by Marcenat 2019-05-21T15:14:35Z

@jezzamon sorry for the late answer and the bug :) I'm glad you enjoy the game. For the boss you can go through his legs, the hitbox is only on the upper half of his body, so you can avoid the fireball attack by just going on the other side. But yeah this lack of hitbox is not properly conveyed visually.

Shark Turf by Gus the Shark 2019-05-01T11:25:30Z

This was really fun, I had to finish it :) Great 3D graphics, the controls are fine. Difficulty wise, the easy mode is maybe too easy. Great job :)

Doc. BLOODAWAY by randdir 2019-05-01T12:52:22Z

I thought the game was going to be a "mastermind" take on the rock/paper/scissor concept, were you'll have to understand the ia pattern of the other patient, but it seems random ? Or maybe I missed somtething :) The mood is cool though.

Rashness by Saering 2019-04-30T20:53:06Z

That was fun. * The visual effect are stunning * The Audio is a bit annoying given that you have to fire a lot of bullet :) * The theme is well used

The game experience seems to be more on "what combo to buy" than dodging the boss attack (which is pretty hard due to the speed of the bullet), which is very interisting for a boss battle game. Great job.

The Last Dragon by FlyingKiwi 2019-04-30T20:10:34Z

I'm confused as people are talking about the music, but you opt out from this category, and there is no music... (at least on the html player). There is only the footstep sound, which make for a very creepy stalking feeling :) The graphics are cool though, it obviously lacks animation but the sprites and the paralax effect looks great. And as other have pointed out, only the mouse controls are wroking.

Wanted by Stefan Jovanovic 2019-04-30T20:01:28Z

God that's hard ! but I really like seeing my reaction time :) I don't really see the theme connection, that's not a problem but since you didn't opt out of that category, maybe I'm missing something... The "vintage" effect is really cool though

Warlock : Soul War by Gludo 2019-04-30T20:23:12Z

The visual are stunning, the game lacks music though :) I like the concept, but unfortunatly the game feels very unbalanced, couldn't go far. It's a bit annoying to have the tutoriel every time. And sometime the continue button go to the credits screen, which is awesome by the way :)

UnderBreak by MlleAB 2019-04-30T12:17:32Z

Interesting but I'm a bit confused. I'll start with what I liked:

* graphics are great, especially for 3D art, and the animation are really smooth * the music and sound effect are cool * The narration is the best part, the twist at the end is well executed

But:

* The main mechanic is unclear: what is the consequence of picking a demon ? The first time it gaves me a power (triple fire, shield, or time pause), but the second pick ? And the third ? The movement seems to degrade, is it a bug or link to the demon ? I cannot use the demon power on the second stage if I pick another one (but this may be intended) * I was disapointed when I realized I cannot refuse to commit to a demon. I thought the game would be: choose power to finish the game quickly but lose the narrative, or refuse the deals and get the good ending. Maybe it was your intention and you ran out of time ? * There is no way to quit the game, go to the menu, or do another run with different demons. I had to relaunch the game every time * The power has no visual cooldown, but it does have a cooldown

So I think, to sum up, a little bit of visual feedback for the consequences of choosing a demon would be nice.

For the bug part:

* In the third level two music are playing at the same time * After the end the menu appear, but starting again just make you start at the end of the game * The third power is broken, it just stop movement (player and enemies) but not the enemy ai which keep firing at you, and there is no way to reverse it

Heart Sacrificer by Ruztan 2019-05-01T13:13:39Z

Face to Death by pequenodev 2019-04-30T20:30:14Z

It's a bit empty without audio, or items, and I cannot see the theme connection. The controls are a bit sluggish, but it works.

Really great concept an dunique take on the them, it's super well executed and I genuinely had fun searching a silly quote and reading other people's post ^^

I'm looking forward to see the results :)

DieAblo by Emkani 2021-04-27T10:11:59Z

Hi, the link just send me on a blank page with "WebGL builds are not supported on mobile devices." message. Maybe you should try host the game in itch.io for instance, it handles well html games.

The Squeaky Affair by bmacintosh 2021-04-30T13:10:57Z

Really cool puzzle game, I loved it and played it til the end !

The mecanic is not that original, but the twists with the 3D, the translucid pin, and the white pin spice things up. The graphics are really nice, especailly the light effect. The audio is decent and creates a nice athmosphere.

It's a very solid entry :)

*If you accessed the options or credits screen from the main menu pressing the escape key blanks the screen and requires you to reload the page to play the game (I’m guessing it is cause the game would quit in the desktop version)*

Yes you're totally rigth I forgot to remove that code on the html build.

*In the final boss fight the spears would often travel through either the crate or one of the Dippers. I think it might have had to do with not alternating sides when attacking the boss?*

I'm not sure what you mean, the crate only protect you from one side so maybe that's why you were confused ?

*Finally I was suspicious that the black screen at the end might mean that you were put back at the start of the game but in total darkness, what with the deja vu comment, but it is just the end of the game, right?*

Yeah it's a bug, you're supposed to be back at the start of the game, but on the html build the screen remains black and I've no idea why... But the treasure it's the end of the game.

Dipper And Dipper by Marcenat 2021-05-01T18:24:56Z

@u-tsang-clan thanks for the kind words. Yes the mecanic was inspired by the fight against the Necromancer in "Crypt of the necromancer", but I'm sure it exists in some other games too.

Depths of Darvaza by ghost-in-the-toast 2021-04-27T10:08:17Z

Whoa ! Such a polish game.

The audio is amazing, I've never seen such a good voice acting in a jam game, and the soundtrack does a nice job establishing the mood. The writing is top notch (definitly some portal vibes here) and really funny. The end game twist made me think about metroid fusion where you find a secret lab ou weren't suppose to see. There's also a good sense of "show don't tell" with some nemy being cleary zombified extractors.

In terms of gameplay it's a bit classic but effective, I found the momvement a bit too "floaty" to do some precise jump (in level 3 I never managed to go pass that nasty wide jump on the far right). What I like is that at first I was collecitng hopite and wondering "if I can bank it why not just farm the same monster again and agin since it respawn between death", but at level 4 I realised the real thing I should have collected was health, and that was more difficult to do ^^ (pretty clever twist onthe game design)

The graphics are really cool, very clear (which is important in a jam) and consistent.

Overal I'm impressed :)

Gyro Scavenger by qorthos 2021-04-27T10:10:13Z

Hi, I think you may have an issue with your build settings in Unity, the game seems to be locked in a very tyny resolution, making it unplayable... (you can reupload a new version it's allowed in the rules for those kind of bug)

Gyro Scavenger by qorthos 2021-04-28T11:52:59Z

@qorthos thank for the new full screen build !

This game is too hard for me haha ^^

I like the idea however this kind of game with funky control are very hard to get right, for me it's a bit too difficult to enjoy. Perhaps you could have made a smoother diffilcuty curve with the level design and be more generous with health.

Graphics are really good, especially the GUI. The music is decent, props for the voice acting it's rare in jams. The sfx are good too although the engine sound is a bit annoying.

Tiny Dungeon by Swen 2021-04-28T12:04:12Z

Really fun and polished experienced.

Procedural generation is tricky and here it works like a charm.

Music is nice and doesn't get annoying even after a lot of repetition, sfx are all on point and create a nice 8-bit feeling. Same goes for the graphics, everything is simple yet effective and consistent. Gameplay wise the game is really fun, neither too easy nor too hard, and the attack mecanic with the mouse is a welcoming change to an otherwise classic formula.

Overall great job :)

Deeper Understanding by detectiveLosos 2021-04-30T12:43:13Z

That's very impressive for a jam game, horror games are really hard to makes since it's all about atmoshpere, and you really nailed that part.

Graphics are amazing and with a unique style (omg those "collage" monsters are creepy!) Audio is effective, all the sfx are great. My only complaint is that there is no real ending/payoff.

Overall great job :)

Alek and the Dungeon of Paper by Wintergatn 2021-05-17T09:27:44Z

Oh damn those visuals are stunning !

I have to say with such a cool username I was expecting more marbles :)

The game itself is interesting, but it would be so much better with some music/sfx ! First sfx would greatly help to give some feedback, for instance to indicate that you've opened a lock. Then some music or jsut a sound texture would create a real atmosphere, here the contrats between the amazing art and the silence is weird ^^ I'm not sure to see the connection with the theme tough...

Also you're missing a wall at the end, the player can fall :)

Mine Flower by Denzil Gomes 2021-04-29T12:47:38Z

Hi, pretty decent game even if you were caught by time there is a complete experience here.

Graphics are really nice, music and sfx are pretty decent and don't get annoying even after lots of repetition (which is not common in a jam ^^).

The game indeed lack something to be more than jsut a platformer, I'm curious about what were your plan. I like the axe mecanic to grab walls and slow down falls (it's always a plus in my book when something is use for both combat and something else). As others have pointed out mapping the jump to z can be weird (we don't have all the same keyboard layout :p), you could consider for your next game adding remapable controls (you're allowed in the rule to have some base code so you can invest time between jam to do this).

Diary of Sedah by azagaya 2021-05-01T19:09:05Z

Really nice game !

I like how the mecanics are introduced gradually. The graphics are nice and clear. The audio is decent, though I'm not sure the music theme is the best fit for the atmosphere, reading the story itgave me more of a Dark Soul feeling. Speaking of the story it's pretty good, I like the ending twist :)

I think the long range attack is a bit overpowered, there was no reason for me to use the first one, I think it would have been nice if the long range attack were to drain power from the sacred light.

Maybe the game lacks some sort of incentive to explore outside of finding the torches, something like health power-up ?

Overall solid game, great job !

Shire Story (Underground Edition) by Gustavo Rocha 2021-04-29T12:58:22Z

hi there .- The games look really cool but it's impossible for me to play it since I cannot select where to do my action. I think there is some discrepency between the cursour and my mouse position, I can see them not aligining. It may be a resolution issue... if you solve this I would be happy to retry :)

Shire Story (Underground Edition) by Gustavo Rocha 2021-04-29T12:59:29Z

My bad it's fine now, the game was not launching in fullscreen for some reason...

BashRL by luddegodofpain 2021-04-29T10:21:08Z

Really clever idea, it's one of the most original game I've seen in a jam. And the execution is almost flawless.

The writing is good, the graphics are really cool and and unique, the mecanics are well designed and taught.

My only complaints would perhaps be that the music theme gets quite repetitive

Super Base Jumper by madbookstudios 2021-05-17T09:17:45Z

I didn't manage to get to the end but it was pretty fun :) What impresses me the most is the air control, it's really hard to get this sort of tricky controls right, and here it's just perfect: tight enough to not be frustrating, but weird enough to give some challenge.

The audio and graphics are decent. The pannels are really funny. The game is maybe a bit too hard, it requires (at least for me) trials and error, you could perhaps have made several levels to smooth the difficulty curve.

Deeper and Deeper by ishmandoo 2021-04-29T10:52:46Z

Nice concept, I really like the story.

The controls feel nice, the graphics are a bit simple but they are very clear. The lightning effect are really great though. The audio is decent, it seems it was evolving depending on where I was but I'm not sure ?

However I htink there is something missing to force you to really manage both character, there is a loop-hole where you can just make one go in circle in a safe spot and wait for the other to find him. My guess is that it's easier to reunite the brothers if you make them both move and leave clues (torches), but because there is no timer it's safer to just control one.

Deeper and Deeper by ishmandoo 2021-04-29T13:07:40Z

@ishmandoo adaptive soundtrack for a jam is really neat !

*Should have made this more clear, but the goal is to have them meet in a particular place in the game.*

I see ! But my point still stand, you could manage one character then the other.

Dungeon : Developer's Away by efeckk2 2021-04-27T09:43:55Z

Nice game considering it was made in only 8 hours :) I had trouble understanding how to attack without etting hit, since the attack range is so small... Also the game "crashed" after the first level but I guess this was intended ?

Journey for Wife by Drew Long 2021-04-29T12:36:42Z

First of all, it's some amazing scenery on that first screen. I stayed there for a solid minute listening to the music and testing the conctrols. Unfortunatly I think the rest of the game lack this sort of atmoshpere and feels more generic. The art style is amazing, the music is still cool though it clashes with the first theme.

Instant death on lava is too unforgiving, especially without checkpoints. Also I'm not sure why part of the screen is taken by my wife and why she's standing beside a vending machine ?

Overall there are some good ideas an talent, but the whole is a bit inconsistent to my taste :)

into the past by ty_ 2021-04-29T10:40:27Z

It's hard to talk about such subjects, and I think your game shows that video game is a great medium for that.

The art is effective, the writing is good, but my favorite thing is the progressive soundtrack, it really elevate the experience.

I wish it wasn't so short which shows it was good ^^

Great job, I wish you the best !

Deep Breath by Potatoed 2021-04-27T10:17:48Z

Hi :)

I kinda suck at this game, it's hard ^^ Sometimes it seems like some fish spawn right on me so I cannot avoid them.

Controls are nice and responsive, just weird enough to give this underwater feeling Graphics are nice and clear, although it's confusing that bubbles are used for both taking damage and healing. A bit of audio would have lifted up the experience, just some ambiance sound would have been enough :)

Keep up the good job !

Nautilus: Gestation by Perpetua Franck 2021-05-17T09:04:43Z

Really strong atmosphere. I'm a bit confused about what I should do ^^ The writing is pretty good, the sound effect and music get the job done, the art is great although I would have like a bit more elements.

As others have pointed out, the text is annoying too read because it's shift line width and height. Moreover it's not skippable when you retry.

Jungle Navigator by lemonsaurus 2021-04-29T10:00:57Z

Really funny dialogues and well executed game, the only real hurdle to the fun is that you can't skip dialogues you've already seen when you die.

The art is really cool and does a good job selling the emotion and jokes.

The music can get a bit annoying since it's a very small loop.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Safe Spot by egordorichev 2022-04-05T20:23:16Z

I'm pretty sure i didn't understand much, but the mood was so good I kept playing. Control are good, graphics ar nice, audio is really great and spooky. Also some weird shadow my lamp. Uncool. ^^

Censor by Kurakurture 2022-04-06T11:55:53Z

Nice concept, very original. I think the art style works really well and create an unsettling atmoshpere. The music is a bit repetitive, and the sound effect really harsh to my ears. I also find the movement very laggy, but maybe it's my computer. Good job overall :)

Volcano Lullaby by jd557 2022-04-05T20:12:00Z

Oh my gosh that intro, strong Link's Awakening vibes ! Graphics and audio are decent. Control are a bit weird, the jump mostly is very flaoty but you ade the level design around it so it works. The time mecanic fits the theme, though I think it's a bit punishing and doesn't really add new gameplay or desicion making, it made me think about "risk of rain", a cool rogu like where time affect the difficulty, so you have to decide if you stay longer in a level or not to grind. Anyway, it's a nice game for compo, keep it up !

Can't Escape Your Past by Marcenat 2022-04-05T21:25:17Z

@dennis-magnusson I was worried the timing were still too tight, but every time I wanted to fix them it created other ways to solve the level.

@phoenix-fireflower I struggled a bit to make a wall jump with a nice feel, with more time and experience I could have made it snappier (and bug free ^^), but good platforming controls are so hard to do :) Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Thanks everyone for playing !

Can't Escape Your Past by Marcenat 2022-04-06T14:26:47Z

@papaya

*Spoiler*

For the lowering door level you have to use the time speed zone to speed up your past self to let you pass sooner, but the timing is very tight as other people have pointed out.

*End of spoiler*

Bussin by bitdecay 2022-04-06T19:56:49Z

Nice game ! It's hard to make physic based game fun but you've manage to do it. The french dinner mood is well done, the graphics are really nice. Good job :)

Eleventh Hour by Jeremy Ryan 2022-04-06T20:40:19Z

One of the best entries I've seen so far, the poslih is amazing. Stunning art and animation, cool fx, nice music and sound effect. I especially like the incorporation of the theme within the story, it's still a strightforward "timer" but at least it's not just a UI element, it's a beautiful sunset :)

Ludare OS by foxwater 2022-04-05T20:47:00Z

Nice concept, though it's a bit hard to grasp and you need lot of text to explain it, perhaps you could have made some tutorial levels. Graphics are decent, the audio can become a bit annoying though.

HONORED EXECUTION by Cope 2022-04-05T21:02:39Z

Great graphics and audio, I love the sound effect when enemies die (especiallythe big one ^^). I think it lacks of enemy types, only two is not enough to keep me playing more than a few minutes. I'm also not convinced about the sword control, I think it would have feel better to just press a button.

Tax Evaders by Carlos Murillo 2022-04-06T20:44:40Z

I like the idea of the player having to make a trade off between money and difficulty, and the graphics are really nice. The game lacks many things tough, some UI, some sprites for the characters, a real progression... the pace is also a bit too slow.

teleBOTation by Phoenix Fireflower 2022-04-05T21:22:20Z

Finally a puzzle game with this theme ^^ It's quite clever and well made. Graphics and audio are nice, the sound effect are really cool. I think the biggest improvement would be to have tutorial levels for the mecanics, and speed up the movement. By the way is you robot inspired by gmtk ?

Run Run Granny! by Hartvichio 2022-04-05T20:51:06Z

Really funny game, with nice music. Graphics do the job, soudn effect too. I have a probelm with the control and the parallax, for me it's really hard to move where I want too with that camera angle, but maybe it's just me :)

Catch the corrupt by Gonzo13 2022-04-06T11:49:03Z

Nice art and animation, the game looks really cool. The sound effect can become a bit annoying without some background music, but they do the job. I also like the narrative, it's simple but original.

Batteries not included by damedevy 2022-04-05T19:55:41Z

Nice game :) As other have pointed out the bullets gets destroyed when an enemy dies, which makes the game a bit hard. Also the robot deceleration is a bit low I think, it doesn't stop right when you want (the movement is a bit "floaty") which makes it hard to do precise move. Also about level building, making the player die almost immediatly when spawning in a level is a it harsh ^^ The sound effect are decent and do the job.

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-06T14:24:32Z

Best game I've playerd so far. Really poslished, great art and audio, everything is on point and work well. The game is really addictive and I kept playing it, which means a lot for a jam game. The only complaint I could have is that I don't really see the connection with the theme, apart from the "you'll lose eventually";

Tick Tock by Mandytoh 2022-04-05T20:33:47Z

I love the concept and props to you for trying something bold, talking about death in games is hard and I think you manage to do something touching. The graphics are nice. The audio is good but why did you leave the piano track only on the menu and at the end ! I would have keep it playin gfor the whole game. Like you said the control lacks feedback, because the text takes time to appear and switch sentences it's sometimes not clear that you've actually click on something.

Try to Die of Old Age by Dennis Magnusson 2022-04-05T21:09:06Z

Cool music, cool jokes, weird but fun controls, overall nice game :)

It's time to die by ScootalooZamyslona 2022-04-05T20:56:17Z

Cool graphics and audio :) I'm not sure how I'm supposed to buy things, I don't see a currency counter ? Also I find the game super hard, enemies pop up super fast and makes ton of damage.

Lost in Time by arthurr 2022-04-06T20:13:58Z

Really well done, it's fun and I tried multiple time ^^ The audio is really great, props to whoever did this music on your team :) The difficulty curve coold be smoother, it's start rally hard and with a lot of mecanics (spikes, moving platform, etc...), in geenral it's best to let the player experience those in a safe area and let them make mistakes, here you just die right at the start of the level ^^ The graphics are simple but really clear which is important: I understand immediatly what was going on and how to interact with things. Overall solid entry, maybe you'll ended up in the video game industry one day :)

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Beat TD by Steffo 2018-04-26T19:24:55Z

On of the best idea I'v seen so far. The tempo is maybe a bit to high, that makes the game difficult. The art style works wonderfully and the visual cues on the tower convey very well if the beat was correctly hit. Well done.

Conquer a chef's heart by JanWe 2018-04-24T20:32:13Z

I like tower defense games, and like tower attack games so that was fun :)

Fullscreen would have help to see the cute graphics, here it is too small. The game lack a bit of presentation (tower description, an introduction with a little dialogue maybe). Also let the player choose when to skip text so he can read it all.

What did you say Captain? by Marcenat 2018-04-24T13:40:16Z

If you are wondering what to type at the end of level 1, "next level" is an accepted answer and load level 2. ("somewhere" works too)

What did you say Captain? by Marcenat 2018-04-25T11:30:28Z

@Rs11s21n there is a shield command that protect your ship :)

What did you say Captain? by Marcenat 2018-04-26T20:26:32Z

@dikkop lol :) The 'o' is hidden in the first level

What did you say Captain? by Marcenat 2018-05-08T08:26:26Z

@btrotter101 I'm sorry I haven't test it on MAC, maybe the data folders are not at the right place ? The folders "Datas" and "Levels" needs to be right next to the exe.

The Last Word by adsilcott 2018-04-26T19:59:56Z

The visuals are stunning, and the story well written. The music gets repetitive after a couple of minute, however it sets the mood. The strategy part could be more diverse, with resources has suggested above, or with the possibility to put your unit in defense mode for instance.

It's Not Lupus! by Deozaan 2018-04-24T20:13:14Z

Whoa the graphics are stunning. I like the idea, even if it is not really a combination of the genre, more of a juxtaposition. The shooting phase could be a little more diverse. Also I get stuck to the "mission failed" screen (don't know if it is intended, but it could be nice to add a retry button or something). The audio is cool as well, it sets the mood perfectly.

Submerge by ectucker1 2018-04-26T19:10:52Z

89960, I don't usually play a game so long so this speaks for itself. The game has amazing graphics, very catchy music, and good concept. The idea is great, not super innovative tough, but the execution is flawless, everything in the game, from the controls to the difficulty, is perfect. Great work.

Talk Block Chronicles by Yokimbo 2018-04-25T20:52:29Z

What a refreshing game ! * Dialogues are very funny, nice meta on the jam :) * Music sets the mood perfectly * The concept is cool, but it can be expanded to a real mechanic (a kind of Undertale tetris thing)

Good job, cheers.

Starbreak by Balduvian Dead 2018-04-24T20:19:09Z

This was actually a lot of fun ! And boy that is not easy :) The concept is really catchy, however I don't see the connection with the theme.

Graveyard dates by Adrien Dittrick 2018-04-24T20:48:57Z

What a great way to tell a story, which is awesome by the way (and pretty dark, i almost cry). The core mechanic works very well, as I really wanted to know the story so I was reading everything but getting hurt doing so. Graphics are nice (especially the background), and the musics are very atmospheric, works perfectly with the setting. Did not displaying the health was a choice to not distract the player ?

Triassic Park by GiraffeCat 2018-04-25T20:39:39Z

Quite ambitious, I like the graphic style, it works perfectly. Audio effect are good too, though the whole fills a nit empty without music. Also I could'nt figure out how to close a door, when I try it just rings the alarm and I'm stuck on the minigame panel.

Type'n Run by souzanod 2018-04-24T20:02:29Z

It is funny we had the same kind of idea, our game is also about typing command but in a shoot'em up :) The game is solid, it has good feeling and is easy to understand. I'm always impress when people do procedural generation in a game jam (or was it just random picking in a pool of level ?). I think that the queue of order is too generous, I can keep typing "jump" and avoid all obstacles, maybe a secondary objective, like killing certain monster or jumping to get an item would have help to force the player to use all three commands.

MazeInvaders by Jenonator 2018-04-26T19:35:10Z

Good concept, but the execution is lacking some key points: * The pacing is too slow, enemy waves takes ages to come * It is far too easy, there is no need to go into the maze to put towers if the waves contains so few enemies * The cost of the tower should be indicated * The music doesn't loop correctly, as if a semi second was lacking, this is really annoying to hear

However:

* Graphics are nice, good design on the enemy * The concept is great

IDLE CLIMBER - Love Platformers but need your Idle Clicker Mania? Look no more. by HomoLudens 2018-04-25T06:51:43Z

I love "affordance exploration" as you call it. I always try to let the player find out what to do in my games. In this case it works very well because you let the player experience it in a safe environement at the beginning. But maybe the difficulty ramps up a bit to fast (for instance having to fire two bullet for the first obstacle while discovering that you can slow the kill zone while clicking on the wheel to jump is hard for a first test). Here are some thoughts: * I would have put the kill zone after the first obstacle. * Some visual cues on the player side would have helped to connect the fidget to their consequences. * Audio is minimalist but quite relaxing (which is a nice contrast with the fast pace of the game). * Graphics are cool too, I like the particle effect. Great work !

Silent Rythm - A horror rythm game (download link available) by facepalmpt 2018-04-25T20:28:11Z

Graphics are really cool, the mood is also pretty creepy. The idea of an horror rhythm game has potential, I would love to see your game complete with a real rhythm part.

Tempo Step by AdVd 2018-04-26T19:45:06Z

Nice concept, clean graphics. I didn't catch the tunes, it would have been nice to play them when the player got a perfect (I expected so because it is written in the game but it does not happen).

Bad Beat by Drell 2018-04-25T20:12:28Z

Fun game, but I don't really see the card game part, sure there are cards but you are just clicking on them, so they more like buttons... or I miss something ?
