LD50 — Delay the inevitable

The Coup by Darylsteak 2022-04-06T01:16:31Z

Very interesting game, the whole presentation of it was done exceptionally well. Terminal themed games are usually a good time. Fitting the theme was done very well as well, I've realized from playing this game that games that fit theme in a way that isn't just you inevitably lose are pretty creative. You're delaying the inevitable coup but the gameplay continues afterwards in the war game. The game difficulty itself feels like it needs a bit of tweaking to make it extra fun. As it is right now it's very easy, spy on generals until you find the traitors, sabotage them in the meanwhile, and then just give your troops to the loyal ones and win turn 1. Maybe some penalty or limit on spying? A minor point because it's very hard to balance games during a jam, otherwise a pretty fun game.

Tax Evaders by Carlos Murillo 2022-04-06T00:16:33Z

Thanks all for the feedback! I'm very inexperienced when it comes to Unity and game dev itself, and even though the game *definitely* could use a lot of polish I'm still happy with what how it turned out!

@proxy-games Yeah haha, this was the first time I implemented a stealth system like this, there's a million things I want to tweak with the enemy AI. Definitely going to polish this up as a postjam game!

@exevirus Thanks for the PSA and suggestions. I will definitely consider all of this when I touch upon this game more postjam.

For your hiding point, you could hide forever, but we tried to discourage that by making finding the printer to reduce your heat the objective for each night.

For your inevitability point, the inevitability factor is the reason why picking 0 dollars still gives you heat, we wanted to encourage the player to pick a number, and also to inevitably lose down the line. Another point related to inevitability we did discuss was "should finding a printer net you positive or zero heat"? Net zero heat is how it's currently implemented (whatever heat you pick during the day is what you get back if you find a printer) because it was simpler to implement during the jam and also we wanted a player to potentially go the distance if they are skilled.

I think though, upon reflecting on your comments, that either net positive may be the way to go, or find a better way for the player to feel the inevitability of his demise. Definitely something I'm going to think upon at length when I polish this up later on, thank you for your suggestions!

Thanks to everyone else for the feedback, I'll be sure to play all of your games when I can!

They Are Coming by PeaNud 2022-04-05T02:20:10Z

The art-style and 3D models are fantastic! I also love the variation in enemies as the waves continue.

The End Of Days by Anson Rutherford 2022-04-05T03:59:38Z

A very well made and polished game, I was pretty much impressed by every aspect of it. I enjoyed the music and the theme, the dialogue was pretty funny, and the gameplay loop is simple but satisfying. Not too much in the way of any challenge, and the theme doesn't feel too reflected in the gameplay itself, the thematic connection is all told through the dialogue. That aside I really enjoyed this short little game.

Very cute and chill game, when I learned you can katamari everything it made it a lot more fun. Fantastic presentation.

One gameplay thing is that even though you can katamari everything, it doesn't seem to give you an advantage and it fact it seems disadvantageous to do so because putting in just one item makes him happy for seemingly the same amount of time. If it is currently advantageous to put in more objects at once I would like it to feel more like it.

Otherwise a very well presented and polished game!

Demon Wins Everytime by MacabreArtGames 2022-04-05T02:26:52Z

Great job on the music and graphics, really sets the atmosphere, and the demon react streamer in the top right is a nice touch. Really well polished!

Ejected! by Spaint 2022-04-05T23:50:58Z

Very creative gameplay, basically a very fast and reflexive inventory management game which I enjoyed playing through. I found it a little difficult at the start with the small inventory space but the game becomes significantly easier if you get lucky and find an inventory increase item. I have a couple points I've thought of while playing the game:

- Items are pretty hard to see against the black space background, and when you go very fast there is not enough time to react to which item is coming your way. I understand that's the purpose of the top element to indicate what items are incoming but sometimes multiple items can be found in those clusters and there isn't any time to react to pick one: In a low oxygen situation I would throw away a knife to make room for an oxygen tank but not for a fire extinguisher for example. Perhaps there's some skill issue involved here on my end

- Progression could use a little tweaking. I found myself throwing away everything, using a fire extinguisher to go fast, and then just stacking oxygen tanks until I get an inventory upgrade, and then the game becomes much easier upon getting one upgrade. Maybe make the inventory upgrade slower? This is a minor point because game jams don't really leave a ton of room for minor tweaks like this.

Overall, fun game!

Balloon Panic! by Archangel 2022-04-05T04:13:47Z

I enjoyed the simple gameplay and the graphics. Even though the music wasn't created by you it does add a nice touch to the atmosphere. I have a couple notes: - The birds sometimes spawn very high, or out of screen view, and pop the balloon without you being able to see them barely - The game doesn't feel like it progresses in difficulty. I reached 5000m without any noticeable difficulty increases - It doesn't really feel like there's any penalty for getting hit by a bird because I could just backspace right away. The how to play screen implies there would have been a penalty for continuous repairing but I didn't really feel any.

Otherwise it's a pretty chill, fun game!

LD54 — Limited Space

Terminal Noise by fusionnist 2023-10-04T01:28:49Z

I love puzzle games and this was actually really good. Even though the mechanics definitely are confusing at first, when I realized how they work then I got into the groove quickly. I also love the graphics, and especially the music is fun to listen to. Looking forward to the checkpoint feature, because I got into impossible situations a few times. Otherwise I'm enjoying this game immensely. I'll update this comment when I finish it.

I really like immersive games and I think this one nailed the immersion. I enjoyed the flavour text with each upgrade, the lighting contrast of the fire against the dark, the sound design on the enemies, and the jerky eeriness of the enemy movement. What teto said in terms of the graphics is pretty much what I thought. I played 1.01 to review it as it was on LDJam release, and the criticism I had was the lack of visibility of enemies was a little frustrating but reading what you said I see that 1.02 has a gamma slider so I'll probably check that out. I enjoy rougelikes like this and I think the presentation was done very well, it's kinda hard to add any new feedback when there's already over 2 weeks of feedback but just letting you know I enjoyed your game!

Limited Parking Space by Johnsensei 2023-10-03T01:01:20Z

This is a neat little game, I really like how chaotic it can get. I liked the little details, like the honking noises.

Poe's Woe by Carlos Murillo 2023-10-05T03:18:01Z

@penguindustin @3mpty thanks guys for the feedback! The last jump was definitely something I was thinking about during the jam. I was my first time designing a platformer and I was trying to think of ways to be more creative with the level design and integrate the powerups more. The tell was supposed to be the part where you climb up before, the leap of faith you can see to the right... but I realize that's a really lazy tell... I should have instead either zoomed out the camera, put the jump higher, or just not have that jump there at all; it's my biggest regret post-jam. I'll keep in mind about pixel perfect jumps and unclear jumps, and I'll try to be more thoughtful with level design moving forward.

All of these criticisms are great, we will try to iterate to fix them.

SPACE LTD. (The Little Prince) by Vadzim 2023-10-04T01:12:46Z

Very cool entry. I enjoyed the indicator of your trajectory when you wind up the launch. The gravity and anti-gravity is a pretty neat idea but as a minor point it does feel like it needs some tuning on some levels. Fun and well executed, I enjoyed the game.

A Barren Land by penguindustin 2023-10-05T03:47:17Z

Great concept. This is a great framework for something that could be expanded upon and polished greatly. As the other commenters said, I wish there was something in game that would explain would you are crafting would do, and it would have been nice to have a way to have buttons for +5 etc. If you ever iterate this, it would be nice to see how far you can go with it. Otherwise, I enjoyed myself and played to the end.
