I like the concept a lot, however the execution is not so great :( Adding some tiny things like a gun fire sound when you're shooting, some animations when you're reloading, visuals that indicate you can place turrets here and there. It's a really cool concept, like a maze-like tower-defense shooter. It's probably one of the first games you've made and for that I commend you a lot man! Really good stuff since you're probably only just starting off making games! Keep it up :)

Why did it want network access? You should probably turn that off to not scare off users.

Collision with coins is undesirable, monsters got stuck behind them a lot and they blocked bullets as well. Usually what you need is called a "trigger" or something along those lines, UE4/Unity both have them iirc.

Cost of towers was unclear but after the first two I knew it was 10 :p

Overall I really like the idea of the game (makes me think of the book maze runner!) however the low-powered ness of the weapon made it so that you almost entirely depended on the towers. I liked the look and feel of the game, walking around and looking around was very smooth. Grpahics were simple but to-the-poin. If I could also upgrade my own weapon this game would've been even better :-)

@Sun Parlor Studios Thx ^^ Yes, it is true, this is may the third Game I have done and it was my first GameJam ^^I know that the execution is not great, I simply run out of Time xD But there should be a Gunfire sound?!

@bobismijnnaam don't know why it wants network access. Must be a standard setting from UE4. I realised it too late, to fix it for :/ I know that there are some bugs, but I didn't manage to fix them in time.

I will definitely keep working on the project and public a "Full" version. I already planed different tower and the ability to upgrade your Gun and your tower ^^

I really liked the creepiness of the enemies and the music. It was a fun game to play thank you for making it!

I noticed some bugs that are abusable:

* Enemies cannot go through coins so if you dont pick up any coins they cannot hurt you or your camp.

* If you spam reload key you can shoot forever without ever needing to reload.

No Linux, so sad...

yokimbo 2018-04-25 08:50

It ran a bit poorly for me and also the enemy AI didn't activate so the monster just stood there in a T-pose :D

jenonator 2018-04-25 08:55

@mrerdalural THX ^^ I have alredy fixed the first bug for a version 1.1, but the second is absolutely new to me xD

@Blinkenlights I'am sry...

jk5000 2018-04-25 13:08

The idea for this game was pretty good, but the AI and the shooting mechanics was not super great. But for a first game jam this was okay game.

jenonator 2018-04-25 13:15

@jk5000 Thx ^^

thatsommes 2018-04-25 14:08

Very laggy and it doesn't look like I'm shooting most of the time while playing. I like the concept and style of the game though so looking forward to seeing what you make in the future!

kappaix 2018-04-26 19:13

Definitely a solid concept, tower defence FPS certainly has legs as an idea - would love to see some more polished sound and music - and I can't quite work out why the file was so huge?

But well done! Thanks a lot for sharing!

marcenat 2018-04-26 19:35

Good concept, but the execution is lacking some key points: * The pacing is too slow, enemy waves takes ages to come * It is far too easy, there is no need to go into the maze to put towers if the waves contains so few enemies * The cost of the tower should be indicated * The music doesn't loop correctly, as if a semi second was lacking, this is really annoying to hear

However:

* Graphics are nice, good design on the enemy * The concept is great

tommislav 2018-04-26 19:46

Wow, the uncompressed files are 1,5 gb!!! How did you manage to make it that big?! Anyway, I get lost in the maze. Would need some kind of visual queue to help me navigate at least a little.

jenonator 2018-04-26 21:23

@ThatSommeS Thx ^^ My friend with a GTX 960 was able to play the game without any lag, so I forgot to check that more :/

@KappaIX Thx ^^ The main Problem with the file size is that I used terrain indev bevor I added the water in a late state. But an bug in Unreal Engine 4.19.1 didn't allow to delet parts of a terrain without crashing the engine :/ ...also I forgot to delete some test files xD

@Marcenat First point is an result of an early version, where the enemys spawnd while the timer was already runningxD Forgot to adjust this, becous I was lacking time... The other 3 are work in progress. Thx ^^

@Tommislav For the filesize read what I wave written to KappaIX. The Idea is to use your turets as an aid to orientation. It still a Maze and should be challenging xD

For every one, who is intrested in the Game: I have created an itchio Page to keep updating the Game. The aim is to get a solid Game, without bugs and a way to win at Version 1.1. Later, more versions may follow adding Levels and extend the Gameplay(More Tower, Guns, Enemys). I hope you continue to enjoy MazeInvaders ^^

I dont have a great computer, so the game didnt really run well for me, but from what i could tell it was a decent game and was fun. There were a few bugs which i found, mainly with the AI. Also the file was quite big. Cool game.

jenonator 2018-04-27 00:33

@Emery Thx ^^

patvanmackelberg 2018-04-27 00:56

It was very neat for what it was, I got to wave 8 then went out and got lost ahha

altron 2018-04-27 18:05

Wasn't laggy for me, even though my computer is rather slow :) MAybe I would add some more indication of shooting - some effect on the weapon, since it was really hard for me to tell if I have fired or not, because the sound indication wasn't enough (maybe it is a little off? I couldn't tell) and the same would go for hitting enemies, I never knew if I am so bad I couldn't hit them, or if they just survived :P Other things have been already said I think :) The graphics is really nice and the gameplay is solid, just with some bugs...

mrpenguin 2018-04-28 10:12

I would recommend to add images to the entry, and for the game, be careful with some simple things like not letting the ground (that is plants texture) shine with the sun, maybe remove the shadow of the gun, or add a character holding it so it projects shadow as well. Make more evident when you are hurted (it could be as simple as making the screen a bit red as most of fps do). And try to put music that is not so repetitive, because it is cool the first 10 loops, but then you start crying xd

Good job anyway, keep on with the games : )

flukeshot 2018-04-30 03:14

Not sure if it was intentional but the audio loop that didn't actually seamlessly loop certainly added to the madness of it (not necessarily in a good way, haha). The monster who slides along with arms outstretched actually did give me a bit of a fright haha - so good work on that. As others have said collision with the coins is undesirable. Also, the baked shadows are wrong in many places, this could be fixed with some settings changed in a re-bake I think. Gameplay-wise you may as well have made it auto-reload and made some visual indicator for an enemy being hit (a blood particle?). All in all though, good fusion of genres.

This game was

1.47 GB

uncompressed!!!

You should figure out how to make it smaller. Holy geez.

That out of the way, I thought it was one of the more innovative non-workable ideas. A tower defense game where you're first-person in the maze and have to wander around planting towers is a really neat idea for a demonstration of how game mechanics can work against each other, even when they work well on their own.

I wandered around a bit, never even saw one enemy, and placed exactly one turret, probably not anywhere it could have done some good. You can't defend a tower in a tower defense game if you don't have a good lay of the land.
