LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Elite Beat Zombygons by Archimagus 2018-04-24T14:53:39Z

Got some real Necrodancer vibes here! It's that I'm so bad at rhythm games that I had to drop it a little earlier than I'd like ): I think the main issue is the leniancy to mistakes.

It's a great game overall, looking very satisfying and of course with great audio! I also really like the little calibration option, it saved me a lot of trouble.

Good job overall, best game I've played so far!

TBFTWorLD41 by joemid 2018-04-24T15:29:04Z

"Does the game close when you're dying or is it a bug?"

I apparently pressed Q, whoops.

ANYWAY, that was.. Different. I got pretty excited with the intro and everything, then read the disclaimer and went all "oh God". It was a pretty "Oh God" moment even though religious people sometimes debunk dinosaurs ;)

It looked very cool, the music was great, but of course there was not that much gameplay. I must say this is probably the first game that was not in Game Maker, Unity or Unreal, so hats off for that.

I don't really know what to say, but good job I suppose!

Eldritch Engines by CameronPenner 2018-04-24T19:38:18Z

Like the game a lot man! The mood is really chilling. Great game, would love to see it worked out a lil more!

Toodee and Topdee by dietzribi 2018-04-24T15:47:45Z

I fucking love this concept. It is so original and so incredibly well worked out. So so good. Good job man. Only nitpicky thing I have about this game is that the characters move ridiculously fast (might be something delta time related? On my buddy's PC every thing is moving way slower making it a lot easier to play with the characters). Never the less, amazing game and amazingly well worked out. Didn't find the semi colon though :(

Toodee and Topdee by dietzribi 2018-04-24T16:03:15Z

Yeah I figured it out what causes the super quick movement of the characters. It has to do with the monitor that the game is played on. Played the game first on my 120hz screen, and there everything is super quick. When I try it on my 60hz screen, the speed of the characters is normal. Maybe you can fix that in a post-jam update to your game? afaik that's completely allowed. Really cool game, still!

Sandwich with Pigeon Meat by rodancheg 2018-04-24T18:24:42Z

That was a pretty fun game dude :) We enjoyed the trivia questions haha and the "ai blyat" death sounds are great. Nice game man :) Really good stuff :ok_hand:

Crafty by Brackeys 2018-04-24T17:42:55Z

Interesting..... Don't know what I can say about this game besides that. I wonder if you could have done more with this idea.

BEAT KILLER by Dragojt 2018-04-24T14:35:07Z

Cool game, man. I love me some rhythm based games. I feel like you could have done a better job with onboarding & the player & giving user feedback as I didnt have a clue when my inputs were actually successful. Nonetheless still enjoyed it a lot. Fucked those skellingtons up with my beats! :P

LDCOMP41 - The National Rhythm League by pinkemma 2018-04-24T16:23:25Z

The feedback for actually hitting the beat feels a bit missing, meaning I never really know whether I succesfully hit the key or not. Furthermore the game might be a bit slow for a rhythm game.

It's a pretty fun game with the planning phase and then actually executing the plan, but walking in a straight line got me to the end pretty easily.

Overall a good effort! With some balancing and polish this could definitely become something! (:

Rocket Artist by DekuJuice 2018-04-24T14:44:29Z

That was great! Even though the controls were absolutely horrendous, when you take the time to learn them it really adds to the experience. I was actually hooked for a while! I played until the second kawaii face ;)

Very simple, very fun, good job! Great interpretation of the team, probably the best I've seen so far.

Aloisius by Rongo Matane 2018-04-24T14:25:47Z

I really liked this game, gave a very fun twist on the original chess genre with buying new units and stuff. I didn't really understand when I got money from stuff so I didn't know when I could expect to make money and buy new units, but when I did get money to get new units, it was very interesting to place and play around with them. Strategy aspect in this is on point. Good job!

Dance Invader by Alcarendor 2018-04-24T15:13:04Z

I think yellow and orange are a bit to close together as colors sometimes, but that's perfectly fine. The game feels smooth and is fun to play! A bit gimmicky theme-wise, but a good job nevertheless!

The alien's facial expressions and the music are great!

Time Spike by egawag 2018-04-24T14:28:10Z

A good interpetation of the theme! I like it.

Very simplistic, yet effective. Even though the graphics are not super elaborate, they convey the game really well!

I would've just made the boss room a bit smaller and the enemies a tad faster to increase difficulty (maybe a hard mode?)

Good job overall!

Survival Quiz by Defrog 2018-04-24T14:59:54Z

Very simple quiz, good "memey" questions. I can appreciate it ;)

Of course the game is not very intricate, but I like the effort in the mood and graphics department. Good job! As a side note I also really like the music (:

DeathBall by Andreadbx 2018-04-24T17:26:18Z

Like the graphics a lot! Good job. Also nice that you did this all by yourself without any help of programmers, especially since you did it in unity which makes it more difficult to make games without knowing how to program. The controls feel a bit wonky but that was to be expected. Again, nice job man :)

Rhythm Overdrive by Diblow 2018-04-24T18:43:08Z

Holy hell. This game is absolutely 10/10. Graphics are great. Music is super nice. The mechanics. Wow. Deserves to win this ludum dare. Insane man. I am so impressed. wow

Fight For Food by BloooBird 2018-04-24T16:23:15Z

In contrast with @mainghia95 I actually like the camera movement in the game. Maybe being able to look up and down would be nice, but it didn't bother me so much. Enjoyed the game. Killed some salt and some peppers, hahah. Mr Moneybags is pleased.

I'd suggest speeding the gameplay up though, took me quite a while to get going with cooking :P

Storming Sands by grizeldi 2018-04-24T15:12:08Z

Interesting game. I wasn't really paying attention to defending my base since the other bots would go wreck all the invading tanks :P I was just riding around with my laser on my *Universal Turret Platform Mk.2â„¢* :D Cool stuff guys, liked it a lot.

INSiTU by tulipekoni 2018-04-24T13:47:11Z

Fun little intro! It actually makes it so you get a little excited to see what's coming up!

Good interpretation of the theme, I like how you didn't go full top down but used the angle to your advantage! Very cool.

The graphics are as good as pixel art can be and they fit the simplicity of the game really well. My only thing here is that I don't have too much patience and I usually hate games where I cannot pull the boxes I pushed, but that's just something personal and nothing wrong with your game!

Good level design, fun to play, very good looking, very well done!

Racing squared by joll05 2018-04-24T16:12:52Z

Nice job for your first game man. Keep it up, you'll get to making some awesome games in the future. Nice concept too.

Cloak Wars by slotha 2018-04-24T13:08:36Z

I would update the link in the main post by editing the post!

As for the game, it feels nicely done, even though a tad simple. The theme doesn't come forth as much, as I actually had to read the description to understand which genres actually clashed; even then it was not very apparent.

Controls feel smooth, but the gameplay is a tad slow and repetitive. Still a good job!

PlatSCII by whycardboard 2018-04-24T16:17:35Z

Is it intended that you can keep jumping by spamming "j"? I'm not sure haha

Anyway, the game is pretty well done and feels good to play. One of my concerns is that the character actually tips over instead of staying upright and as mentioned above the repetitive jumping feels a bit level-breaking.

Aside from that, fun little art style you got going on, including nice music! Good job!

Zip Zap by Brad Slayter 2018-04-24T13:39:21Z

It's a fun little game, nice job man! I did notice quite some bugs (for example I placed a turret near the start and it kept killing all of us :P) but I had quite some fun. Would have loved to see some more feedback on how the other players in the game die. Great game nonetheless! Keep it up!

The Play Ground by LegionZ_Gaming 2018-04-24T16:46:00Z

Congratz with your very first game in ludum dare. Keep it up.

Reverse by MrJake7X 2018-04-24T16:57:45Z

Graphics are dope, didn't understand the gameplay very much though. :/

MazeInvaders by Jenonator 2018-04-24T14:53:55Z

I like the concept a lot, however the execution is not so great :( Adding some tiny things like a gun fire sound when you're shooting, some animations when you're reloading, visuals that indicate you can place turrets here and there. It's a really cool concept, like a maze-like tower-defense shooter. It's probably one of the first games you've made and for that I commend you a lot man! Really good stuff since you're probably only just starting off making games! Keep it up :)

Dainty Deprivation by NickMarcha 2018-04-24T13:18:32Z

The game looks good graphics wise and feels well done with the controls (sometimes drifting feels a bit iffy, but alas)

My biggest concern is that there is no real challenge in the game, as it's more just a grind to get to level 25 (which kind of emphasizes the RPG element I guess ;) )

With some challenge in here this could've been even better! Good job overall (:

FishX Brawl by Lars Olav Otten 2018-04-24T16:38:30Z

Hey fellow NHTV students! What are the odds of us finding your game? Haha. Greets from Sun Parlor Studios aka Riko and Daniel. Was hoping of a little better of a game from you guys, but me and Daniel had some fun playing the game still. :)

ColorTagSurvive by vimlock 2018-04-24T13:27:07Z

Are the graffiti tags actually networked? That would be way cool!

Anyway, even though it's a "survival" game, I don't feel much need to survive; maybe because I didn't play for long enough? The game is a bit too slow for my liking, but I like the concept quite a bit!

My real complaint with the graffiti tags is that it's not very well defined where you CAN and CANNOT brush, so you start on something but then find out your canvas is not big enough.

Overall, a fun interpetation of the theme and fun looking graphics (:

ColorTagSurvive by vimlock 2018-04-24T13:45:04Z

@K1mpp4 That's way cool! Good job guys (:

Typerider by Sun Parlor Studios 2018-04-24T13:48:11Z

@hi-im-greg Awh shoot, we forgot to mention you can skip the introduction by pressing spacebar ):

Typerider by Sun Parlor Studios 2018-04-24T15:51:13Z

@nicolas-tapia The art assets are all made from scratch, only the audio is not ours, but taken from the internet from various sources

Typerider by Sun Parlor Studios 2018-04-24T19:38:16Z

@pickens-inc The problem is that you need to do a "turn jump" ;) Thank you for the kind words, we appreciate them a lot <3

Typerider by Sun Parlor Studios 2018-04-24T19:39:01Z

@gipzo That would only lengthen your execution by so much when you have to start riding with something like 'go' again haha. Glad you liked the game!
