LD42 — Running out of space

CRUMBLE by whycardboard 2018-08-17T19:22:00Z

Thanks, @shadow64. We didn’t put much thought into the keys or how that feels. Next time we will try some different arrangements!

CRUMBLE by whycardboard 2018-08-19T16:21:21Z

@connell I know it’s supposed to BE a turn based game, but it doesn’t FEEL like a turn based game.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Learn to be a self stopper! by DMajor 2018-12-06T22:46:02Z

Fun game! If you were to continue this game, random level generation would make this game sooooooo much more fun, with random choices.

ETA: Estimated Time Of Arrival by mechanicallife 2018-12-06T23:01:48Z

I had so much fun playing this game and would have loved more levels! Great work!

Out of Frequency by Blizary 2018-12-07T23:14:31Z

The art was incredible and the music fit really well!

Bummed OUT! by boyTurnedRobot 2018-12-06T22:51:37Z

I got the same bug as hugonun, but nonetheless, very fun game. Love the aesthetic and the ads on the side of the window.

The King's Battle by hugonun 2018-12-06T22:42:02Z

This was a really fun game! I originally didn't know what was happening, if I hit the enemy or not, but once i actually found the GUI on screen, I started having a lot of fun. Great game!

The King's Battle by hugonun 2018-12-06T22:52:02Z

Ok now i'm super exited for the post jam version

LD44 — Your life is currency

JUNO by DeathBySnail 2019-05-01T00:34:50Z

as soon as i got familiarized with the controls, the game was so fun. great music and visuals, and an impressive job for a jam game.

City33 by Mr_Field 2019-05-02T01:09:33Z

this is so good! it's so good! the music, when used, fits perfectly with the environment. the environment is amazing, populated with all these people. the sprite work is incredible, on the people and the city. you have this entire map created and all these different places. this is incredible for a jam game! this might be my favorite game of the whole competition! amazing work!

Myrrh by bwalter 2019-05-01T00:18:21Z

i thought the implementation of the theme was really smart, and how you put that into a game was really well done! great work!

HeistLyfe by benmcnelly 2019-05-02T00:45:40Z

got that 63 monies! i found the yoinking a little unresponsive sometimes, and i didn't know the stairs were stairs... other then that, the game was really fun, great work!

A Binding Contract by Kyrio 2019-04-30T00:23:46Z

even though the game was a prototype, i still enjoyed it. the idea was smart, and the graphics fit the game really well. nice work.

Memorandum by PhilStrahl 2019-05-01T00:46:03Z

really enjoyed the whole experience of the game, the writing fit the feel of the game very well, almost lovecraftian... the music worked really well in setting the mood of the game and the graphics added to that. the whole thing was a wonderful game.

Orcan Harvest by Mathstr0fficial 2019-05-19T03:00:50Z

really enjoyed the game, the sound effects really added to the mood of the game. the visuals were pleasing and the mechanics were well implemented. all in all a good submission

Civilian Bailout by alec 2019-04-30T00:09:09Z

got to level 21. the music is really nice, fits the game well. personally, i think the switching between currency was a little difficult. maybe when you get to one side of the menu and keep going, it would send you back to the other. or maybe that's the challenge? all in all, solid entry. great work!

missed messages. by Angela He 2019-05-02T01:27:55Z

i really enjoyed the different approach you took to the theme, and i think it worked really well. the stories were really moving, and the dialogue was really well written. the game looks and sounds great, and has a lot of potential for further development. wonderful job!

Money Royale by DutssZ 2019-05-01T00:07:12Z

i liked the idea of the game, but sadly i wasn't able to play it. i kept getting stuck in menus and I didn't know the controls at all. other than that, good idea!

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-04-30T14:01:45Z

@itsduckyyyy the purchasing mechanic was going to be more integrated, but the time got the best of me. maybe in a post jam version, i can add what i wanted to: you can spend properties to use power ups. thank you for the feedback!

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-04-30T14:03:46Z

@vinmh thank you for the feedback. i agree, the movement could be smoother, and i should have coordinated the colours of the cards with the colours of souls in the forest, instead of relying on rng. thanks for playing!

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-05-01T00:04:01Z

@wfmg difficulty is always a hard thing to gauge. you don't want it too hard, which in this case my game is, but you don't want it too easy. I think some more play testing to help create a better playing experience would have been better in this case. thank you for the feedback!

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-05-02T01:30:57Z

@erik-brunnstrom thanks for playing, and for the feedback! the camera movement is a little sharp, and your movement is also sharp compared to the ai. as for the sound effects, that's because i made a stupid mistake and layered the same sound effect on top of itself three times. all of these things will be fixed in the post jam version. thank you!

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-05-03T01:41:30Z

@ryusui i completely agree with the spawn rates of victims, and their locations. it can be either really easy, or really difficult to get one of them in the location. hopefully, the post jam version should fix this issue. thank you for the feedback.

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-05-04T00:34:14Z

@duke thank you very much! i am currently in the process of creating a more polished post jam version, where the sound effects will be cleaned up, ai will be smoother, spawn rates will be improved with each level, and the card system will be more implemented with the game play. question though: when you say you got stuck, do you mean in a corridor, or in a tree or wall? thanks!

bloodsucker. by whycardboard 2019-05-06T00:17:06Z

@deathbysnail it is splendor! i just need to more fully implement the cards. thanks for playing!

Spirit by Connell 2019-04-30T14:16:00Z

cool game. i thought the moving environment added to the strategy of the game. the only issues i had were the sound effects and the bullets only going as far as your mouse. other than that, great work!

Curfe by Kajetan Andrzejak 2019-04-30T00:14:32Z

the simplicity of this game is so smart! it's a simple concept that you can add to with powerups. perfect for a jam game. great work.

also, don't think i didn't notice the 'bad guy' bass line bitcrushed as your music. weirdly, it fits the game well.

DISREGARD LIFE, ACQUIRE CURRENCY by notb 2019-04-30T00:03:41Z

the look of this game really fits the gameplay. it's relaxing, and a really smart idea. good work!

Bloom by Fadex 2019-05-01T00:12:44Z

the art and the music work perfectly together, and the whole experience is very nice. as said earlier, the controls were a little sluggish. other than that, great work!

MEGATOID by GullynGames 2019-05-02T01:12:18Z

the mechanic works really well with the theme, and the game looks really nice, but i would have liked some audio. nice work.

Root Maker by Joe Bustamante 2019-05-02T00:52:19Z

the music was so good! the game moved a little quickly in the beginning, but once the hang of it, the game was really fun. the only thing i found a little frustrating was using the mouse to select the currency you are buying/selling. great work!

Undercave by NoobException 2019-05-03T01:48:55Z

i really enjoyed the game, although i would like a bit of warning when i am starving. the mood was great and the music was really nice. great work!

For the captain. For the ship. by Retti01 2019-04-29T23:44:13Z

it's a good idea, i just had some problems with the islands. other than that, good game.

No More Bleeding by JM Studio 2019-05-01T00:38:09Z

i liked the idea of the game, and the graphics and mood were really nice, but the controls felt a little unresponsive. great work on the game!

RogueLife by FedorL 2019-04-29T23:54:08Z

this has been my favourite entry so far! i love the roguelike aesthetic, the mechanics matched the theme perfectly, all in all a great game.

15 Hearts by highlandbert 2019-04-29T23:59:50Z

a fun little game, would have liked a tutorial or a more in depth introduction to the game and it's mechanics.

Bounty Hunted by DrRozza 2019-04-29T23:57:10Z

the entire game works as a whole, everything feels like it fits. the music is my favourite part. great entry.

Tiacol - A journey through life by Camocc_Studios 2019-05-01T00:30:50Z

that was really dark. the game was a great experience, i played until the end. one thing i would have liked is if the letters you were typing would have spelled something in the end... the whole thing was really great, nice work!

Cash-Out by drakonep 2019-05-02T00:58:27Z

got to three months! only issue i had was the powerups stacking, and maybe being able to skip the text crawl. other than that, really well done game, the graphics were great and went well with the music.

Duality by Games I Made For Freya 2019-05-01T00:24:28Z

even though it didn't match the theme, i liked the game. i thought the sound effects were funny, the game mechanic was well implemented, and the levels were well designed. good work.

☐☐☐☐☐ : an experimental narrative by Lapersila 2019-05-03T01:53:43Z

i liked the simple mechanics and art style, but sometimes the text overlapped. other than that, the story was great and the game was really well done, great work!

LD45 — Start with nothing

lotor by torcado 2019-10-10T00:02:37Z

really enjoyed this little game! great use of the theme, and the execution of the idea was wonderful! my only nitpick is the (not a cat) raccoon showing up... 30 or more items in. makes it little tricky, and impossible in some cases. other than that, incredible work!

Nothing to Say by celia14 2019-10-10T00:15:16Z

this is my favourite ld game so far! the graphics are super cute and the dialogue is so fun! the mechanic is so smart and a great usage of the theme, and you're always short that one letter! the best game i've played this ld, great work!

Neon OverDOSe by Don Fouts 2019-10-10T00:34:37Z

really enjoyed this entry! the tutorial levels were really helpful, and i managed to finish every level, even a round of chaos mode! sadly, level 2-3 didn't recognize that i won, but i still count that as a win. really loved the graphics and music, gave the whole think a vaporwave kinda vibe. all in all, an incredible entry!

ground zero by whycardboard 2019-10-07T14:03:14Z

@neverix so sorry to hear that! i’ll try to get some mac/linux versions out later, but gamemaker has not been cooperating. thanks!

ground zero by whycardboard 2019-10-07T18:49:01Z

@retrobarbare thank you so much for your feedback! great to know you enjoy the game!

ground zero by whycardboard 2019-10-08T18:54:39Z

@nerdysl0th thanks for the feedback! the game most definitely needed some more background information, giving you more guidance in what to start doing. As for the ending, we had this elaborate idea and an interesting story, but it didn't pan out the way we thought. that is ludum dare after all! thanks for playing!

ground zero by whycardboard 2019-10-09T23:32:01Z

@quantumsno thanks for the feedback! i do agree that the collecting items mechanic could be streamlined a bit, but maybe adding another intricacy, instead of holding down to get items. like a meter you need to keep above a certain point for long enough. idk, food for thought. anyways, thanks so much for playing!

ground zero by whycardboard 2019-10-09T23:36:54Z

@technsmile so sorry you didn't find the gameplay interesting! when we started, we had a whole list of things to add to keep the player busy, such as traps for lizards and rats you'd need to eat, upgrades for knowing when the storm is approaching, etc, etc... but, as the curse of ludum dare states, you can never finish everything you set out to do. thanks for playing!

ground zero by whycardboard 2019-10-09T23:43:19Z

@antoined73 i agree, having the game longer would have been great! we went with a more artistic focus, and left the gameplay more or less on the back burner. we could have maybe spaced out the scrap piles more, but that would have been somewhat boring. anyhow, thanks so much for playing and your feedback!

ground zero by whycardboard 2019-10-10T18:44:02Z

@deepnight about that ending... yeah we had a big elaborate plan and then cut it last minute. the black is supposed to be credits but i forgot to implement in the ld version... it happens. anyways, thanks for playing!

Shadow Bomb: A 60-Second Blind Bomb Diffusing Experience by EmCannon 2019-10-09T23:29:19Z

i enjoyed the game, managed to defuse the bomb with 14 seconds to spare on my second try. the one critique i have is once you play the game for the first time, you already know where the objects are. maybe randomizing that would add some more replayability. other than that, great entry!

Afloat by Nigma 2019-10-09T23:50:40Z

gameplay was interesting, but i never managed to figure out how to unlock new tiles... had a great time exploring though. nice work!

LD46 — Keep it alive

OTTS & GLASH by endesga 2020-04-23T18:03:21Z

looks and feels fantastic, the music is really atmospheric and the whole game is really well executed. great work!

Beat Sturgeon by ecmjohnson 2020-04-23T18:20:17Z

the concept is really good, but it took me a solid 5 minutes to figure out what was going on, and even then i still didn't know how to play! a little confusing for me

LD49 — Unstable

Law and Disorder by whycardboard 2021-10-04T22:23:30Z

@100th-coin how's jail treating you, mr. president? yep, was a transparency issue, should be all sorted out now... thanks for playing!

LD53 — Delivery

Deliver From the Dead by Mr_Field 2023-05-01T16:35:01Z

What a great submission! The "deliver the cure" was a fun spin on the theme, and the art style was great! The environment has a great mood, and the music compliments it really well. I would have loved to see some more variations in the zombie sprites, just to give some visual differences, but it was great opposed to that! Great entry!

Inbox Fool by 100th_Coin 2023-05-01T17:46:07Z

i never thought sending bombs in the mail could lead to such fun gameplay.

Great writing once again, you never fail with the comedic entries. The mechanic of the moving window was super smart, and created for some great puzzle opportunities. The problem is how long it took me to complete the game, cause I was too busy in every room listening to the dialogue. So good. The boss fight theme was immaculate, and the "resume boss fight music button" was a must. If I had any feedback at all, it'd be that the player clipping out of bounds seemed to kill me sometimes, but put me back into bounds other times. Not sure if there's a percentage of out-of-bounds that matters or what, but I thought I'd mention it. Great work!

Kirk's Food Delivery Game by HacksawUnit 2023-05-01T16:42:33Z

5 - 8 - 634 cause I didn't figure out I could dash until the very last room! grrr. Great submission, the cutscene?? are you kidding me??? so good! i would have loved to see a little more variation in the tileset, but the backgrounds were phenomenal, the art in general was so good. The music was great and the "Go back!" caught me off guard. Great work!

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-01T16:29:00Z

Great visual style! I agree with some of the previous comments regarding mouse sensitivity, as well as inverted mouse controls being a bit disorienting. There was also the problem of the mouse going out of the game on the web build, which was a bit tricky. Apart from that, I thought the level was a great size for a jam game, and the premise of the game was great! Good work!

Sender Not Found by whycardboard 2023-05-01T17:27:57Z

@100th-coin your video was super appreciated, and I totally agree with you when it comes to the answers being too different. I was trying to have them diverge as the game progressed, but jumped the gun a bit. Super appreciate your response!

Sender Not Found by whycardboard 2023-05-01T17:50:15Z

@pdotjpg Thanks for playing! Totally understand how that strobing effect can be hard on the eyes, and a post-jam build is on the way.

I can understand the typing being annoying, and I fought with the idea of case sensitive / smaller tokens / etc... In the future, I'll have the tokens in the message clickable to auto fill the chat box.

I'll definitely improve upon the difficulty of the responses in the post jam version. Thanks so much for the feedback!

The Pigeon Post Principle by cassowary 2023-05-01T18:01:45Z

Not even commenting on the gameplay, which was immaculate, the MUSIC and the ART was just fantastic. Fits this game so perfectly and gives such a great vibe. The art was incredible, and everything played so smoothly. Crazy impressive, one of the best entries so far.

Pack 'Em Up by OgelGames 2023-05-01T16:25:11Z

Great idea for a game! I thought ringing the bell was a great idea off the bat, and the little LD logo on the truck was great! I think a score indicator or some kind of visual indication of how I'm doing would help keep the game engaging and add some extra incentive to the player. I also think your sound effects were great, but a few extra ones would make the game feel much more immersive.

This was honestly really fun, and has a lot of potential to expand on! Keep it up!

RIDDLER by StoicKekis 2023-05-01T16:15:08Z

Unfortunately, I didn't end up receiving any riddles in game, although the API works! Not sure if it was an issue in game or on my system, but sadly, no riddles for me. Neat premise though!

Outer Space Snacks by Coro_yy 2023-05-01T16:58:52Z

Cool idea! It took me a minute to get used to the controls, but I had a great time flying around. Also took me a minte to figure out how to actually collect the food! My biggest complaint would be how blended in the asteroids are to the background. I kept dying on level two and had no idea why! Turns out, asteroids. Great submission and great work!

Stand and Deliver by rohanmoon 2023-05-01T17:13:43Z

seinfeld.png

Easily my favorite game of this jam so far. The Seinfeld-style music, the goofy prompts, and the AI reviews? Brilliant. Just brilliant. One of my favorite submissions.

soul sender by aushijo 2023-05-01T16:47:12Z

Great music and visual style, and a great concept as well! I also though the controls were a bit disorienting, and I wish I could make some sharper turns. Ended up getting 4 people. Would have loved a way to slow down or make a sharper turn. Great work!

Delivery Boy by waptaincaffles 2023-05-01T16:52:06Z

$1161! Great concept for a game and great environment art! I loved the little details included everywhere, from the businesses having names to the (A) being highlighted in (A)ccept order. My only complaint would be the camera was a bit too quick, and I ended up getting confused or disoriented once in a while. Other than that, a great entry!

Where's My Lunch? by Harmless Hawk 2023-05-01T17:02:12Z

Super fun! The music was the best part hands down. The controls were snappy and the game looked great! I wish there were more consequences to hitting people/things, just to give me more reasons not to ram into everyone. Also, got caught in a corner on my first playthrough and had to restart. Great submission and great work!

Hooked on Data by Notorious Frogs 2023-05-01T16:19:35Z

Great grappling hook mechanic! Took me a minute to get used to the controls, and whenever you restart a level, your mouse unfocuses from the game, which was a little disorienting. I felt that the levels could have used a bit of polish, as they became a bit too tricky with the pixelated effect. The environments were really nice, and I love the spin on the "delivery" theme. Great work!

Love Letters by matthewrf 2023-05-02T00:54:50Z

Great first jam game!

The letters idea was a great play on the theme, and the bird delivery was great! The art worked well, and the sound effects fit great. The animation on the player was subtle, but noticed, and the level was thought out and well designed.

My biggest issue with the game would have to be the double jump mechanic. Was super 50/50 for me to be able to double jump, even with full stamina. I had to try to get the top right side letter 7 or 8 times before the double jump would let me. Maybe a bit of extra wiggleroom in the stamina bar to make that happen?

The art was great, and all the biomes had great respective styles. My only complaint there would be the lack of background. Just a little blue sky would have added so much more immersion.

Apart from that, great entry! Great work!

Dungeon of Forking Paths: Chapter 41 "Undeground Love" by Listonos 2018-04-23T22:34:00Z

@Blinkenlights I did that, but it won't work for me! It might be what i'm running it with? I don't know.

@Blinkenlights Sure, I’m — already on discord —. I’m busy now, but I’ll be free in about 20 minutes?

@csanyk Sorry about the start of the game! The grey text saying ENTER is actually a text area, and the text below are commands

Thank you everyone for your feedback! If you want your commands faster, we are just exporting our post-jam version, so now you don't need that pesky plus sign in between commands, plus our new level editor!

@jusw85 Hey, sorry to hear it. We don't know how to export to Linux. I can't get it to work on anything.

The keybindings are a little weird, but other than that very fun!

I got two swordfish in the first 5 minutes of the game! Very fun! I have a soft spot for those text adventure games!

I think it's broken. After playing the game for a little bit, my blue bar (I think that's my ship's health) was completely depleted, but nothing happened. Then, when I got to the planet, I assumed my ship would stop and the game would go YOU WIN! But it didn't. The ship went out of the UI and into space. Audio was decent and the graphics were okay. Good concept, just a couple bugs.

Love The Boy! by juicensalsa 2018-04-23T22:57:36Z

I really liked this game! The graphics were cute and the music fit very well! The only problem I had was the character's walk cycle was a little slow, but other than that, a very fun game!

Very fun game! The music was a little quiet, with the volume all they way up. The puzzles were fun and well thought out!

Take a look at my game, too! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/platscii
