LD46 — Keep it alive

Peck Beach by matfernandestt 2020-04-20T19:03:51Z

Loved the graphics and the 2.5D style on the characters. The sound design was super nice as well. If there was an objective, I didn't find it. I found the combat system was nice but the exit battle action didn't require confirmation. I think this area could be tightened up a bit.

Overall, a nice demo of things that are to come! Replacing the textures on the world items to match the aesthetic of the characters will help lots.

Good work!

Plant Baby by theArtifacts 2020-04-20T02:40:16Z

@pennycook It's fixed! I forgot to click to make it public at first. Thanks!

Edit: great suggestion and I entirely agree. Unfortunately I ran out of time and spent the last 90 minutes recording sounds and making the bg music. Thanks again!

Plant Baby by theArtifacts 2020-04-20T18:25:46Z

@itsonrandom So.. there is a hidden mechanic in the game that is hinted at by the title screen text. Roots grow. But like in real life, you can't see them! As they grow, they reach deeper into the pot and the pot needs less water, so it may have the right amount of water for a number of hours. But! If the roots out grow the pot, the plant will die, even with the right amount of water.

Like in real life, it's hard keep plants alive (and growing)

Thanks for playing!

Keep It Alive by mhykah 2020-04-20T17:34:18Z

Pretty hilarious! I liked the various dialogue snippets you added and the animations / sounds were spot on. I wish I had a little more control over what I was doing, but a straight up Tamagotchi clone wouldn't have been fun, so this is a nice take on it.

Good work!

Dog From Hell by aplite 2020-04-20T16:56:03Z

Hey! I played through and had some fun. Interesting idea!

I liked the idea of having to manage hunger, thirst, and happiness for your pup - all are definitely necessary. I wish that picking items up was easier, though admittedly I didn't use the scroll feature.

I did find that once I got the core loop down I was in a stalemate pretty quick. Perhaps if the dogs health regenerated so long as all its needs were met, and the dog grew (needed more of each need) over time, it would help.

Cheers!

VirusTD by RaccoonLudos 2020-04-20T16:43:10Z

Good work! I like that it's a little bit educational as well! I do wish that the increments for energy flow didn't go in 0.5 - OCD has me wanting to spend all of my energy. Also, range indicators on the towers would be a nice to have. Overall, good work!

A Fistful of Daisies by Norris Eldridge 2020-04-20T16:35:38Z

Loved the music and the graphics! I didn't realize that the cactus could cause damage at first - nice touch! I felt that the bandits simply leaving with the flower was a bit of a stretch on the theme, but keeping yourself alive worked!

I also wish there was a "Skip Text" button, but hey! 24 hours? Great work!

Metagame by itsonrandom 2020-04-20T17:14:44Z

The concept is interesting. I found that up to level 8, I just placed the objective on the player though. I imagine that was a bug?

The audio was awesome! The graphics were pretty decent. Keep up the cool work!

Chronocipher by Instafluff 2020-04-21T20:34:24Z

I love how well made / polished this game is! Great work!

souvenirs by SoarenDev 2020-04-20T17:28:26Z

This was a unique take on the theme - keeping memories alive. Great job in that regard.

The music made me feel like something bad was going to happen. Just had a ominous tone about it (science fiction movies may have ruined me). I kept wondering what impact my answers might have. Unfortunately it seemed that you ran out of time before adding an end game.

Good start to something!

P.s. - I also ran into the missing characters issue. I believe what's happening is that you're reading input to advance text and if the keyboard is still being interacted with before you've switched states, the system is still looking to advance text instead of inputting text. Might want to look into the state management of the game :)

Macrowave by Prox276 2020-04-20T17:09:39Z

The art and audio were great! I thought the idea behind it was pretty funny. I struggled with placing the theme though. Seemed like attaching a theme to a game idea more than creating a game based on the theme.

The Maccaroni's jumping around was hilarious. I liked the punches, though I wish that they were in the direction based on WASD (or the arm followed the mouse in 360 degrees).

Overall, pretty good start to something! Keep it up!

Ambulance chase by nick0124 creator 2020-04-20T16:47:16Z

It was pretty entertaining - I managed to flip my ambulance and drive upside down! A larger world would have helped this out a bit. Nonetheless, good work! I enjoyed the low-poly graphics.

Keep Me Breathing by AstroLabe 2020-04-20T17:45:21Z

I love the graphics! Can't wait to try the game!

Keep Me Breathing by AstroLabe 2020-04-21T01:22:31Z

Tried to comment earlier and the site died.

I love the art, the audio, the concept, everything! My only issue is that it was incredibly difficult to color match (and would be next to impossible for those who are colorblind).

Overall, Excellent work! At a slower pace / easy mode, i could see this as being a mini-task as part of a much larger game.

Cheers!

Air Jump by Konstantin Abezgauz 2020-04-20T17:17:55Z

I think this is a good test of mechanics. I'm sure you'll find a way to incorporate some of these ideas into future projects. Good work!

Fusionator by kimist42 2020-04-20T17:43:50Z

I have very little idea of what I was doing the whole time. You have an interesting simulator going on though. I liked the visuals!

I would suggest simplifying the instructions. Too many words and people wont read them! Also, there was no audio so it would probably have been good to opt out of audio rating.

Congrats on finishing!

Virtual Fish Tank by Jay Berlin 2020-04-20T17:03:33Z

Good stuff! I liked the AI on the fish when you feed them. I lost interest pretty quick (probably a common problem among jam games.. I know mine is kind of boring), so I didn't see if fish eventually have babies, or how you restock food. Would be interested to expand upon!

LD53 — Delivery

Thats So Punny by recursor 2023-05-01T15:48:01Z

Pretty fun game! I'm a master at dad jokes so I found it pretty easy, but for those with a language barrier it might be a tricky game.

Nice work and excellent use of the theme - making sure players know how to deliver a joke!

Stork inc. by Ntimi 2023-05-01T22:52:18Z

What you've made was made well. I would give the ability to show all of the dialog so we can read it faster if we want without having to skip the intro. The gameplay itself was a little too simple for me, but I'm sure it has it's audience. Cheers!

Moving In by Krassenstein 2023-05-03T00:30:18Z

This was as chaotic as I could handle xD

Was pretty fun! A little glitchy in that the packages can clip through the walls and that counts as being in the correct room. So, with blue/green you can easily just run at the wall with the package or even throw it at the wall and if it hits correctly they count.

I got a score of 148 first try. Nice work!

Delivery Doggo by Bitzawolf 2023-05-01T23:03:28Z

The animation of the character was nice and the jumping felt good. The character movement speed was also good. I think the level design could use a little work and/or more depth. Many levels had extra mail in them and they were all pretty straight forward without any hazards or puzzle-like obstacles to overcome. Pretty chill vibe though. Good work!

Stand & Deliver Snooker by Osterzone 2023-05-01T23:15:11Z

Snookers a pretty fun game. I had trouble with pretty much every aspect of this game though. Might be good to list your controls in the game description. With a bit more work this could be a fun snooker game... definitely doesn't fit the theme of the jam.

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-01T07:09:44Z

Yep - having some pretty annoying build problems right now and ran out of time to add more hazards. Thanks for the reviews! @cattymations @BayouSoftware

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-01T20:02:58Z

@zhiteng-chen Thanks Zhiteng! I did look at Mixamo but ran into problems with the armature that I couldn't resolve before the end of yesterday. If I find some time tonight before the deadline I'll work on the mouse sensitivity and character animations :)

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-03T19:40:12Z

Thanks for playing @osterzone ... You may have missed a thing or two :smirk: . But yes, time constraints limited the level design.

Cheers!

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-04T02:44:18Z

@flenzil that's hilarious!

RIP: Ridiculously Injury Prone by theArtifacts 2023-05-16T05:40:38Z

@haymakercoding @jordantanner thanks for playing! I agree with both of you and appreciate your comments. Did either of you experience jittery camera movement? I experience it in engine but didn't experience it locally in a web build so I'm not sure if it's resolved.

Postman Battle by Prostone 2023-05-01T22:55:05Z

This game hurt my brain after having sleep deprivation from the jam

Nice idea and I loved the art style. Great work on the couch co-op!

Spuggy's Pizza Delivery by BayouSoftware 2023-05-01T07:24:59Z

I found it was pretty difficult to control the bike and was struggling to get more than one pizza delivered. Would also be nice to be able to reverse after crashing.

Overall, the game is a pretty good prototype!

P.s. I didn't realize I could upgrade until I saw the screenshot just now. Nice touch!

Elevander of the Emu Express by Honest Dan 2023-05-02T03:18:17Z

Pretty dang good! The graphics and music are superb as per usual. The gameplay was fun, though I found a few sections quite unforgiving and it seemed like there was too much lag between flapping and gliding. A few times it felt like it just didn't want to glide at all.

Overall, great game and could be excellent with a little tightening up on the controls and some adjustments to some map sections.

Nice work all of you!

Mail round by carld 2023-05-01T21:21:17Z

Love the graphics! Wish the vehicle was a little more forgiving to control, but it's pretty fun!

Nice work :)

Baby Boom by SophieM 2023-05-01T16:28:37Z

Uhhh.....

Surprisingly fun and funny. The graphics and gameplay were well done and it has nice polish. Could have been a little more innovative with the theme, but overall well done!

Pizzapocalypse by professor 2023-05-01T22:11:56Z

As Yorsh said, the game plays well. The controls are smooth and work perfectly. When moving on a diagonal you get a speed boost. If not intended, make sure to normalize the Vector3 movement direction

As for making a quick game - great work!

For your next one, expand on what you've done and try to connect more closely with the theme and you'll do great.

Stop the Delivery by Maskrosen 2023-05-01T17:11:48Z

Not sure how to figure out what order things are meant to be clicked in and likely would have just brute forced through it. Need some clear call to action that indicates what the player should do.

The game art was very nice though!

Rhino Express by Mahjoub 2023-05-01T15:58:09Z

Nice game! The mechanics were taught well. The graphics were cohesive and meshed well with the audio. A post jam version with more challenging levels could be a fun mobile / web game :) Cheers!

Pack 'Em Up by OgelGames 2023-05-01T16:21:29Z

I liked the packing mechanic. Could use some background music for sure and it's missing some key user-feedback items such as a score indicator that increments after each load, and an indication of when the game is going to end. Otherwise, pretty fun!

I think you can get away with speeding up the clock a bit more. It would also be nice to see a high score to beat.

Great work :)

Airborne Deliveries by Rendow 2023-05-01T16:06:36Z

Pretty fun game, though I got stuck on one of the levels (see pic). Not sure what I was supposed to do or if I just have to keep trying to jump/throw the mail up the crack.

30 Minutes Or Your Potion's Free by Rustywolf 2023-05-01T07:41:52Z

Fun game! Not sure I can connect it to the theme, but it played well. Nice work

Spaced by Holtzzy223 2023-05-19T16:15:26Z

Neat concept! The graphics and audio were pretty good, plus splines xD. Gameplay was a little tricky.. the packages in pong moved very quickly while the trucks had a delay/acceleration. With a little more work I think this could be fun! Maybe in 3D, Starfox vibe but avoiding hazards and delivering packages?

Nice work.

Mouse Mail by Mateu 2023-05-01T22:23:55Z

Good work! I only played through once and ran into a bug (nice error handling by the way!), but it gives me the feeling the story branches which is nice. To give some constructive feedback:

- When selecting a dialog option there are two options, 1 or 2, but then you say "press e to continue". I would stay consistent with the options, even if 1 and 2 do the same thing, stick to those buttons so the interface is consistent.

- The cats are kind of far apart and since much of the game is walking, they could be closer together.

- It doesn't seem like memorizing which cat is which is very important... so to make it easier on the player, consider naming the cats based on the part of the map their in. IE: South = Salim, East = Erik

Looking forward to your next game!

Delinquent Delivery by SJPixels 2023-05-02T20:07:55Z

Great aesthetic. The gameplay was a little janky - I broke it by rolling at a diagonal. Looking forward to your next game!broken.PNG

Battery Boys by Cronno 2023-05-01T16:35:25Z

Charging the weapon to fire was nice. I found the movement wasn't working very well. Might be some input management issues happening. With a bit a polish this could be fun!

Not sure that it hits on the theme at all though!

Machine Meltdown by Stefan Funke 2023-05-01T20:28:05Z

Looks great. I agree the sounds are a bit loud and zhiteng is correct - alt is not a good key for the dialog. It would also be nice to have a generic restart button after dying so you don't have to go through the dialogue again.

Nice work!

Outer Space Snacks by Coro_yy 2023-05-01T17:02:44Z

Fun game, but please implement 2D world wrapping! It's too easy to end up off the map with no indication of what direction you're facing or where you're headed.

With 2D world wrapping this game could be real good :)

Nice work!

soul sender by aushijo 2023-05-01T16:39:06Z

The controls were pretty hard to get used to - really large turning radius on that van-bulance. Overall the game was pretty easy to understand and the graphics were well done and kept clean. The 2D world wrapping helps a ton.

Good work!

Delivery Boy by waptaincaffles 2023-05-01T16:44:20Z

Definitely captures the feeling of being a Skip The Dishes driver and wanting to pick up deliveries as fast as possible! Was chaotic and fun.

The graphics and music were good. I think the one thing I'd like is when skipping dialogue it would be nice if the first press of a button revealed the rest of what the character was saying and the second press moved on to the next message.

Great work!

I'm afraid because this is VR only it may not get many play throughs :(

Have You Got a Moment? by Alex Knowles 2023-05-01T17:17:35Z

I like the concept. The game is too slow paced though. Need to kick it up a notch. Perhaps send a flood of tenants in.. distractions.. more packages to sign for... specific signatures? (Sign with a star.. sign with a circle).

Just needs a little bit more going on. Nice job on making this though! Keep at it!

DeliverHood by aznoqmous 2023-05-01T07:34:16Z

Elite Tactical Postman Simulator by cattymations 2023-05-01T16:13:02Z

Nice work! Didn't realize what the "food" pickups were, so some indication there would be nice. I also found a slight bug. During training if you bump the home base at the end to trigger the end dialog it'll play, but if you bump it again it restarts and the timer doesn't so it cuts off the end of the message. Might want to track if it's been activated or not.

Good work on this!

Love Letters by matthewrf 2023-05-02T02:22:36Z

First game? Good job!

The premise of the game is pretty decent. I have to agree with the other review - the double jump didn't always go off. I also found that some of the platforms were very unforgiving which made the game hard in some cases.

The art was nice and cohesive. The sounds worked well with the game. Would have been nice to have some background music.

Overall, excellent first game jam! Keep at it

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Shufflefish by Joel Davis 2018-04-26T00:53:22Z

Game bugged out really quick... dragged one of the cards from my deck up towards the lake and it caused a card to draw while having a card still on the screen. Not sure if it was supposed to? Eldritch Engines by CameronPenner 2018-04-24T19:57:07Z

I thought your graphics were great and the vehicle handling was pretty good but ran into a couple problems. I couldn't end the game. I ended up being the only kart left but the counter still had 2 carts on it. Would have been good to implement some sort of laps-system. Also, didn't find that it matched the LD Jam theme very well. Regardless, good work! Might make for a good racing game down the road (pun intended). Would you mind reviewing mine? https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/ld41-jam-game

Death Fog Dash by theArtifacts 2018-04-24T05:14:46Z

@DeadlyMidnight thanks! Toggling to third person view definitely helps the movement along but I do see your point. Great feedback!

We did have 4 and 5 letter words as well and a higher vowel drop rate. Not sure what happened in the build but we will look into it. Again, thank-you!

Death Fog Dash by theArtifacts 2018-04-24T20:51:14Z

@blobo Thanks! Yeah we thought about that and intended on implementing a "reroll" feature where you could trade 3 letters for a new random letter but alas we ran out of time. Such is life in a 72 hour game jam :).

Death Fog Dash by theArtifacts 2018-04-25T13:05:05Z

@mbrezu unfortunately the dictionary file we used was filled with acronyms however the word I believe you were after is RUE. Regardless, thank you for the review!

The fog did only move in one direction and if you toggled the minimal on it would tell you which way to go.

Other suggestions were noted. We appreciate everything you have says. Thanks!
